I was trying something new, and figured I'd let one of Caem's commissions be my experiment.
Hope you and Envee are down with this.
Drawing Down the Moon
(Yes, I know they're not actually drawing down the moon.) -
Quote:You are magnificent.Ok, obviously my little "matching funds" pledge ain't working...
Fine, that offer is cancelled.
New offer:
If people from these forums donate at least a total of $60 between them ($1 from 60 people of $60 from 1) then I will give away at least $100 worth of art!
I'll somehow randomly choose between those who donated to decide who gets the art. It may be one lucky winner, it may be several with the total cost hitting at least $100 - A lot will depend on what deals I see and what artists catch my eye. If there is just 1 donator well... *shrug* I'll still spend the $100 but I'll reserve the right to include on of my characters in it as well... Can't have someone looking at this as JUST a coupon offer.
To be in the running for the random free art you must donate before the end of Foo's drive, it looks like there are 5 or 6 days left. You MUST include your forum name in the comment section so I know who actually donated. And you must be prepared to provide decent reference photo's and submit your character to the artist of my choosing if you are one of the randomly picked... Or actually, you don't. By all means you can donate towards this and pass on the art. Nevermind that part
Anyway, that's the deal... People here donate at least $60 and I give out at least $100 in free art which I may spend all on one piece or on several.
So... who wants to give water for a chance at art???
How about this: anyone that donates at least $15 will get a piece of art from me. -
I would say that calling "most" charities scams is a vast overstatement, especially when programs like Guidestar or Charity Navigator exist to rate them in terms of how legitimate they are, or established, and how much they spend of each dollar on actually helping.
I understand if nobody donates. It's everyone's choice how they spend their money and where they donate if they choose to. That's why it's charity, and not a Foo Tax.
The Foo Tax comes later. -
Last night, I laid down a light blue gradient background and then painted on it with an orange for highlights and purple for shadows. Somehow, a believable skintone formed.
This is not science. This is wizardry and all artists are in league with the devil. -
Hmm. I must investigate the choosing of a palette more.
Thanks for your help! -
Quote:Hmm. So you don't build a skintone out of warm values for a sunny pic, or whatever? You have a given skintone that you have saved? It depends on what the scene is. If it's very important that there is a specific environment, I'll base the overall color scheme on that environment (e.g. a forest scene would predominantly greens and browns).
Otherwise I base it on the characters skin tone. Once I know what that skin tone is, I'll put down the opposite value as a wash over everything so that the skin tone pops out in the scene. -
I like the inky blackness of the skirt and the highlights.
In other news: how do you go about choosing your palette for a painting? I have no idea how to do this. -
I missed this because I am dumb.
-
If you are so inclined, you can check them out here, and read a recommendation by the founder of Charity Navigator here.
Quote:GAUNTLET THROWN DOWN!if three people from the boards here donate at least $10 dollars then I'll donate $30... So if after seeing this others step up then I will do so as well. -
I guess ONE MILLION USB PORTS.
Or eight. Is that more reasonable? Eight.
Wait, does this include with the little USB dongle thingy plugged in, too? -
Quote:Personally, I don't see why we can't do both. Lord knows even the worst off here are generally better off than people who literally don't even have water to drink.I wish you the best of luck in this but personally the money I give to charities are to ones much closer to home. I've nothing but respect for people trying to help/save/change the world... I just personally prefer to concentrate more locally.
Plus, even small amounts of money can make big changes in these sorts of situations. $20 gives someone water for 20 years. That's pretty amazing.
That said, as long as you're helping somewhere, that's cool in my book. -
-
Hmm, impending sneak attack... must rally defenses...
-
I think we can do better! Shall I start offering incentives?
-
I shall endeavour to attend.
-
You never know... I probably need to log on and completely redecorate the base, just for the lols.

I bet the beautiful, dumb person is ignorantly blissful, but I couldn't give up being smart.

I already got an SG on Virtue, but it's mostly deserted because I hardly ever play. (Read: almost never now.)
Actually, if you wanted the SG, you could have it, I guess. They're called the Eyes of Justice.
