H2 ho ho ho!

So this really has nothing to do with art, but it's for a good cause, so I'm hoping some of you fine folks will help me out.

Did you know over a billion people in the world have no clean water to drink? Help me change that with the H2-HO-HO-HO campaign!

I'm dreaming of a wet Christmas!

Thanks. Twelve people will have something to drink thanks to people who've already given!

I have not. I assume it's about water?

Indeed it is... it is a very real look at what some of the poorer countries in the world have to go through to get access to water and what several big corporations that most people (who've never been outside the US) have never even heard of are doing... it does not paint a pretty picture for the future, but it's something more people need to know about of so I'm glad you are raising awareness.

The documentary was being given away totally free to download off the internet the last time I checked, it's worth watching...

Yeah, I know there are some pretty appalling things going on with regards to water. Heck, just the simple fact that people have to hike miles to dip a bucket in stagnant water in some places is bad enough without having people trying to make a buck off of them.

I think we can do better! Shall I start offering incentives?

I wish you the best of luck in this but personally the money I give to charities are to ones much closer to home. I've nothing but respect for people trying to help/save/change the world... I just personally prefer to concentrate more locally.

Hate to be all doom and gloomy but though it may seem like a far off thing now make no mistake it will be a local problem one day.

We already buy water at the store now and when I was growing up if someone told me I'd have to pay extra and drive to get water I would've laughed at them but it's happening already, it's just in poorer parts of the world with population explosions it's much further along and once a corporation steps in and buys all the water up (and the land that has water under it) they start selling it and when you can't pay they shut it off (and there's is no other place to get any once they have a monopoly) ...people will do anything to get it back including selling their homes or even themselves.

Gah I sound like a tree-hugging activist and 2012 Doomsayer all rolled into one here and that is definitely not my style, watch the flick or at least the trailer (Flow) and draw your own conclusions it's not very long and needs to be seen...

Personally, I don't see why we can't do both. Lord knows even the worst off here are generally better off than people who literally don't even have water to drink.

Plus, even small amounts of money can make big changes in these sorts of situations. $20 gives someone water for 20 years. That's pretty amazing.

That said, as long as you're helping somewhere, that's cool in my book.

Not to sound like an uncaring ******* but I'm an uncaring *******. I don't think much about what's happening on the other side of the planet and don't much care to. There are problems and issues I can see first hand and those, if any, are the ones that get my attention and possibly my aid. Like I said, all due respect to those who think more globally but I'm just more interested in things that affect me more directly... Hell, I don't even get too caring about the enviroment since I figure I'll be dead long before it reaches crisis point...

(I did mention I'm an uncaring *******, didn't I?)

still, with all that said, I will do this:

if three people from the boards here donate at least $10 dollars then I'll donate $30... So if after seeing this others step up then I will do so as well.

Access to clean fresh water is a huge problem that will only get worse, so it is a very worthy cause!

However, I am always concerned about the organizations that I am giving to. There are big discrepancies between how much of each donation actually gets applied to any given problem from one group to another. I prefer to give to groups that I have had time to research.

If you are so inclined, you can check them out here, and read a recommendation by the founder of Charity Navigator here.

This is always my concern as well as there are a lot of mis-managed charities.
Assuming this checks out (will be after the holidays before I have time to dig into this) I pledge to be one of the three to donate $10.

Ok, obviously my little "matching funds" pledge ain't working... Fine, that offer is cancelled.

New offer:
If people from these forums donate at least a total of $60 between them ($1 from 60 people of $60 from 1) then I will give away at least $100 worth of art!

I'll somehow randomly choose between those who donated to decide who gets the art. It may be one lucky winner, it may be several with the total cost hitting at least $100 - A lot will depend on what deals I see and what artists catch my eye. If there is just 1 donator well... *shrug* I'll still spend the $100 but I'll reserve the right to include on of my characters in it as well... Can't have someone looking at this as JUST a coupon offer.

To be in the running for the random free art you must donate before the end of Foo's drive, it looks like there are 5 or 6 days left. You MUST include your forum name in the comment section so I know who actually donated. And you must be prepared to provide decent reference photo's and submit your character to the artist of my choosing if you are one of the randomly picked... Or actually, you don't. By all means you can donate towards this and pass on the art. Nevermind that part

Anyway, that's the deal... People here donate at least $60 and I give out at least $100 in free art which I may spend all on one piece or on several.

So... who wants to give water for a chance at art???

Most charities that are supposed to help these poor people are in fact scams. That is why I donate to the American Red Cross and my church who are both well established and provide aid to people across the world!

I also donate to the women's shelter that provide a safe haven for women and their children of domestic violence.

At my job, we do collection drives to help support other well established charities that help to feed and cloth the homeless. And we participate in competitions and fundraisers that support the families of fallen Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters across the country. So, for me, charity begins at home.

I wish you the best in your honorable endeavor, FOO!! I hope you understand.

I would say that calling "most" charities scams is a vast overstatement, especially when programs like Guidestar or Charity Navigator exist to rate them in terms of how legitimate they are, or established, and how much they spend of each dollar on actually helping.

I understand if nobody donates. It's everyone's choice how they spend their money and where they donate if they choose to. That's why it's charity, and not a Foo Tax.

The Foo Tax comes later.

You are magnificent.

How about this: anyone that donates at least $15 will get a piece of art from me.
