Quote:It wasn't so much the waiting but the lack of any significant updates. Unfortunately a lot of the recent issues haven't offered much, IMO. I don't see much more in i21. A lot of fluff and it doesn't seem like a ton or wild new stuff to play. I didn't go into depth on the beta so here's to hoping i21 is a fun one!I hate too say this but about freaking time, I am tried of waiting.
Anyone hear of when we can start d/l on Tues? I won't have much time before I have to run to work in the AM. -
Quote:Have a build to post for that bad boy? My tri-form is kinda ughA Warshade can do everything but solo Giant Monsters... And that can probably even be done with temp powers/lore pets. Either way, that's my choice.
edit: Also, my Tri Form build does 54x8 Fire Farms. -

Quote:Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup. Like I said: IMO. I really think most story lines should conclude much quicker than this Coming Storm stuff. Do you really enjoy the years it has taken to get this Coming Storm dealt with?It is?
Edit: Well, you did say "IMO". But other than via this post, how would the devs know your opinion on this?
It would be great to wrap it up and add a more superhero theme to the trials. Bring on Galactus type stuff where the planet is in immediate danger! Where are my Sinister Six?! It has been long said the nemesis often makes the super in comics; they enhance the story and the cool factor when done right. We don't have enough of that in this game, IMO
I also see people hating the trials. Honestly, I would run any of them 10 times over before I would run a Synapse TF or Citadel TF....even Manticore and Psyche are a bit rough. So, yeah, I think trials will be one facet of the end game. Hopefully we get something else that rewards iXP. High end TFs/SFs would be niceor some other new stuff we haven't dealt with.
GR had some neat stuff to it but...yeah...the level 1-20 is just weak. I can't see myself ever creating a new Praetorian and playing through thereIt is the suck.

Quote:It might be cool if your nemesis could be created after level 20 or so, once you're an established super and all that. Perhaps they could make a random slew of missions which feature a random nem from the team. Also have your nem randomly appear in a zone where he causes mayhem and anyone can whoop on him in that zone. Something like that, anywayIt's a concept certainly worth exploring. There would have to be more than just a handful of arch-nemesis to make it work, to prevent boredom from repetition with each new toon. Perhaps certain steps/actions/choices along the various mission arcs could be used to spin you off on differing paths. Players with 40+ toons across several accounts would only have to face the same nemesis a few times then.
I like that your arch-nemesis might even appear in Radio (Broke out of the Zig again!) or Paper (Vows revenge on player) missions, maybe even to replace, or as an alternate choice of, bank or mayhem missions, that's just cool. It would be helpful, and more fun, if your nemesis leveled up and progressed roughly with you.
I seriously have no clue would this would take code wise, but it's a fun idea and I would love to see it made to work. As Gob mentioned, the phasing technology would seem to be perfect for this with your arch-nemesis might randomly attacking when you are between missions, an ambush with some warning like NPC text or something. (There he is, Get him!). . . -
Quote:Where did you hear trials were shifting to Coming Storm theme?Once the Praetorian storyline is completed, the Trials will shift their focus to the Battalion and the Coming Storm.
The way the devs now work, theyr'e able to plan out things a lot further in advance, which is why they've been able to give us this multi-Issue Paretorian arc -and Second Measure recently mentioned that they even have some planning done for Issue 29 - so that's looking 8 issues/2 years ahead, even before COH:Freedom has gone live.
I hope the devs realize waiting years to conclude a major storyline is beyond lame, IMO. -
Quote:There is something like this in CO. I am just praying CoX can make a version of it and allow us to make our arch-nemesis. This game certainly lacks the super enemy feel and it is what I have been hoping to see for years.one of the big parts of superhero comic book's is the archnemesis. where would spiderman be without the greengoblin? Superman without lex Luthor? Hellboy without rasputin?
at the moment, city of heroes/villans doesn't really capture this feel. sure, you fight alot of different villans as a hero..but they're mostly the archnemesis of one of the other NPC heroes, or one off named villans you never see again. it sometimes feels like your just a background hero in someone elses comic book series.
one of the ideas i'd had about how to alleviate some of this feel is to allow players to designate their own "archnemesis"
this archnemesis would occasionally show up as a radio mission or newspaper mission, where you'd have the opportunity to travel to a spot in one of the zones and fight the archnemesis.
now, the way i see it, you can leverage City of Villans to create your Archnemesis.
basically:
1) an archnemesis is a hero or villan from your own account. so for example, my main character Tyr's Hand could be the archnemesis of my villan character Fenrir Lokison.
2) to qualify as an archnemesis canidate, both hero and villan would have to be over a specific level (not sure what would be best.)
3) for the missions to appear, both character must be within a certain level range of each other. (say, 3-5 levels apart). if the gap is more than this, the missions won't show up until the gap is narrowed.
4) a character can only be the archnemesis of one other character. (simplifies things)
on the "archnemesis missions", the computer runs your archnemesis, using the stats from that character slot as it would be if you were playing it. (same hit points, endurance amounts, powers, etc..)
this would allow players to create an archnemesis...and it would encourage more play redside, since to make an archnemesis you have to create a redside character..and to keep him available, you have to keep playing him.
once this kind of system is in place, many options open up. a "sinister 6" type task force for example, where the task force has to fight a group of their archnemesis's as one mission.
As an added incentive, have it for VIP players only; this would create a stronger desire to subscribe.
I have made similar suggestions in the past so let's hope we can get to some of the devs and make this feel more like a supers game. -
Quote:Yeah the non-stop Praetorian themed content is just too much. I have also kinda gone MIA in game because I am sick of seeing the same enemy groups in all of the new content. It has been a steady parade of this crap for over a year now.Alignment changes and the Alpha slot + Tin Mage/Apex were all-around terrific ideas, but Praetoria has always been lame and the trial-centric incarnate grind has sent me on a four-month hiatus that won't be ending anytime soon.
However, I do like the idea of the trials but there aren't enough of them yet. I only pray they stop involving Praetoria and put in something completely new and different. The trials are more fun than most TFs and SFs to be honest. I just wish the +50 TFs (Tin, Apex and maybe future TFs) would also reward iXP; maybe at a reduced rate so trials would still be the #1 method to get iXP.
The trials also expose the other issue with this game: huge time periods between significant updates. That is a huge reason why many of my friends eventually leave. The repetitive grind of CoX caused them to take breaks and they eventually lost interest.Going Rogue got some attention but I still feel it was a failure.

Quote:Who said anything about creating new/unique costumes/looks? You can make a ton of stuff with the material we have in game already. No need to make anything new.well, haven't worked as a digital artist, never could draw, myself. but have followed enough developer blogs to know that art assets arent inconsequential and just from dave's posts and posi's comment that he wanted period attire for a mission with nemesis in the 50's but could not justify the resources to draw the conclusions that to get the budget to make more art resources, they have to show that it can be used in a certain amount of content, if not it makes more sense and is going to be more justified to the producers to put the resources elsewhere.
-
Quote:I wonder if skinning an NPC takes much more effort than going with a pre-existing one. I am assuming you have knowledge on this? To me it seems it may take a bit more time but it would be time well worth it. I am all for unique encounters in game. There is enough material here that we need something different. Anyway, to each their owni disagree, i find the tips missions fleshing out the rogues gallery added a lot more capes and spandex type content than we have seen in a long time. non powered minions wearing spandex is silly, it looks silly and its one reason i dislike longbow's look. but the characters and the plots they have us interrupt feel very much like they are more comic book themed.
and making a specific group with a unique visual aesthetic just for one tf or mission would be a pretty big waste of the art team's time, spend the resources for something for 1% of the game with no continuity, or design something iconic that people get to go through their story arc, it just works better for more players though we get close with the scorpion themed crey characters and the storm elementals, and bosses like rularru and the eye of leviathan. -
Well, I have always thought it was a very cool idea. I just don't see how you could avoid the poor quality missions, the farms and the idiotic. When Freedom goes live then AE will be cost $ for players to access. This idea may also boost the desire for players to get into the AE system (currently, I couldn't care less if AE was around...too many issues and my missions get messed up with each issue update; couldn't be bothered to go fix them).
Anyway, my idea! I think the devs should hold a contest (not unlike they do now from time to time) where the winning AE arcs became radio/paper missions or tip missions or mini TFs/SFs - regular canon in game. It could include your own super enemy or group. The sky is the limit! I also submit the missions must be unique and have a unique cast of characters in an attempt to deliver us from the repetitive nature of the current tips/radio/papers/TFs/SFs. Have this contest once every 6 months (or so) and pick the top 5 or 10 and convert them into regular missions etc.
I think it would help deliver us from the very narrow direction of the current game (Praetorian saturation and then some). There would also be a higher number of quality missions to play in the AE system (for those that didn't win). Also, the devs only have so many resources and hours in a day. If we had a bunch of players put in some solid/fun missions then it could only enhance the overall product. Also, it would cause some people to gets subs and want to access AE for this contest. I sure would! -
Quote:I am not sure I could have put it any better. Bravo.Praetoria's first impression was great, but the more I played there, the less I liked it. The worst thing for was the zone layout. There is no reason to make me ninja run for 2 minutes to get from the auction house to the crafting tables.
I can burn out on alts in Praetoria before lvl 10, because everything from going to the market to crafting to defeating a mob feels like it is taking me forever. Add to that the fact that they designed maps that don't look much better but lag so much worse than the older game and it feels close to drudgery. -
Quote:Allow me to clarify. I meant give us something else. We have more than enough of Nazi and militia themed junk in game. Don't add more. Give us a unique group which might be specific to only one TF and that's the only time you'll see them. It would compel us even more to check them out. Seeing the same enemy, maps and looks in missions, TFs etc is just a recipe for burnout.Pretty certain Wonder Woman (a comic book heroine) spent her early career fighting Nazis.
I think anything does go in this game but when we've had a lot of one thing, create something new. I find this game very limited when you consider the only restriction, really, is imagination. -
Yes, I know, it has been just over a year but not by much. Anyway, now that we've had more than enough opportunity to get into GR, what are your thoughts on it a year later? How do you feel about it and why?
For me, I think GR just missed.
The Cons:
-Caused yet another divide between players by locking toons in Praetoria for 20 levels. It seems this is being remedied in FREEDOM and makes one wonder if anyone will bother making Praetorians.
-Using many of the same old, boring, lame maps that we've seen for years. Office, warehouse etc. Even the inside of the hospitals was the same. Just awful. Even the new Prae maps are used over and over - they're also all very similar looking and lack variety.
-Not much unique play. Sure there were some great idea with loyalty changing etc but it was the same old instanced missions and the style of play was very similar. Stale.
-No TFs/SFs? The door missions running the same old is just dull. No new innovations and it seems the 1-20 zone did not get much attention after launch (adding new material).
-Praetoria heavy! We've been bombarded with Praetoria theme, content, looks etc. It has made me sick and I am sure many others feel the same. The goatee universe is weak and should not be the lone focus of the game. Some variety would be great. Have a trial or something where we don't see Praetorians or even hear about them.
-These are my main issues. GR was a lot of fluff but I am surprised it was so limiting. Anyway, the Pros!
-The new zones look great. I think there will be too many and they don't offer anything too unique as far as play but they sure look nice
-Side switching. Thank goodness. A mistake made in this game when you isolated heroes and villains. Good stuff. You need to add more tip missions that feel more super hero but one step at a time.
-New powers were decent. A little underpowered in spots but not bad.
-New costumes. This game's biggest plus, for me, is the ability to customize your toon. This has been neglected for a while. Booster packs were ok and looked more like cash grabs due to lack of wow factor and lack of quality (martial arts pack, anyone?) and then they add the Celestial set as a vet reward?! Just what is going on over there??? That set LOOKS amazing and shows what they can do. Hopefully they do it more often.
All in all, I think a lot of GR could have been added to the game and a lot of the time and effort could have gone to giving us new things to do. The work and art assets could have been put into new and UNIQUE (meaning new maps, enemies etc you won't see elsewhere) TFs or trials or open missions or raids or whatever.
Add things that aren't a grind and fix old problems (most of the old TFs would be a nice fix *cough Synapse cough*. Have it so we progress and don't see the same old stuff all the way along the journey. Give us superhero stuff and not Nazis or D&D etc all the time. All of it fits but give it some variety.
Sometimes I wonder if the devs have become complacent and lost their zeal for the game. I'm not taking a shot at the devs with this. Not the intent. This is just my honest feeling on GR; I expected something different and have to say, I was disappointed. -
I much prefer Red side. More streamlined design; way fewer useless/extra zones and a bit better writing in some missions.
Unfortunately someone thought all zones should be similar in look. Slums or Arachnos superstructures (for the most part). Most CoX zones suffer from poor design and some just look ridiculous. CoV should have been a better mix of slums, regular city, Arachnos etc. I think they also are correcting their problem where new villains were associated with Arachnos or 'Destined Ones'.
The SFs are decent but not that stellar. They really need to think twice about designing TFs/SFs in this game. SO many are not fun to play. Story writing will never trump game play and visuals in a game. -
I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope our new log in screen isn't the one on beta. States punching a Clock. Just lame. The art is weak and does not truly represent the game. I would love to see all signature characters grouped together and then have an outline of a male and female toon forefront with a question mark in them (or something like). That way you can emphasize YOU'RE the next big hero (or something like that).
The log in screen in beta shows little to no thought or planning. Do something about it...PLEASE! -
Quote:Well lookee here, folks!...and violated the terms of the new EULA by using what appears to be your real name in the thread title.
"You warrant and represent that You will not use any Service, Content or Software to provide any information that could be used, directly or indirectly, by another user of the Game to identify You in the real world. You warrant and represent that You will not use any Service, Content or Software to obtain any information that could be used, directly or indirectly, to identify another user of the Game in the real world. "
Have you seen that new EULA? Wowza. We have the deputy forum mod right here, right now! I don't want to take up too much of your time since you have to lay down the forum law and all and Paragon is incapable of such things. Also, you need to hurry and tell all the small kids in the world there is no Santa, Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy.

Quote:I often run content that is unrewarding. I'm swimming in Inf across many characters and have long ago unlocked my Roman costume parts. Yet I'm always up for an ITF because it's a blast.
That's why I take Posi's comment as an admission of guilt they know the Trials aren't enjoyed by a larger number of people. People will do what they think is fun. That is an ironclad assertion as old as mankind. If they're afraid people would stop running Trials with no carrot, that should be a sign.
If the people want 'quicker and easier' like the AE, who are the devs to object? I'd rather not be told what kind of content I "should" like because it warrants inferior rewards.
.
This is why I kinda keep hoping they would consult players more often when adding content. I have to say a lot of recent adds have been rather so so. The ITF is good fun and they just haven't been able to come close to matching it. It doesn't seem so tough to make something as enjoyable and I just don't see why they keep missing the mark. I hate to say it but perhaps they need to change some more devs out at Paragon. The end product has been rather underwhelming lately. I think i12 is still the best issue to date and that was a long time ago.
I thought War Witch had taken the lead dev role? It almost seems Posi is back at the helm. No offence to Posi but I really didn't enjoy his City of system adds for previous years. Install something fun and new...enough with the systems and fluff. I would gladly buy a box expansion that offered 10 high quality TFs over Going Rogue. -
Quote:Yeah I'm gonna have to go with WRONG on this one. I don't know the details of the agreement CoX made with Marvel, DC etc but I am quite sure you are incorrect. I had made a bunch of new toons a few months ago and they all got genericed; the names included: Apocalypse, Longshot, Wildcat, Sentinel, Tombstone etc. So, if you know something I don't, I'd appreciate an update. I was rather choked I had all of these names taken away when they were available for me to take in the first place. They can't.
The word "abomination" is public domain. The only way they could get in trouble is if the character himself bears a significant resemblance to Marvel's Abomination. Just from looking at the screenshot.....he doesn't.
It might help if the devs gave us some info in this area as well. It's not cool to work on a toon for months and then have the name yanked. If we can't use the damn name then don't make it available to us. -
Quote:Some great examples here and it is too bad these can't all be added under the barbarian pieces. Although the Celestial pack does have a piece around the hips that would kinda work in a barbarian look. Anyway, I have to keep reminding myself not to expect too much from these costume packs/pieces.If I might suggest - turning the thread into a personal attack thread is a good way to get it moderated and/or locked.
As for the barbarian costumes, I really just don't get the obsession with thigh-high boots any more than I get the obsession with suits of armor. Whatever a barbarian woman should look like, I can say that something she might have worn while walking a runway in Milan is not it.
Arguments about the historical validity or lack thereof being relatively pointless, IMO.
Even Red Sonja, Mistress of the Chainmail Bikini, wasn't above dressing to fit the occasion:
In fact, I don't see why "barbarian" doesn't mean something more like this:
or this:
Would Xena or Gabrielle let themselves be seen in gear like that? I sincerely doubt it, though they'd have a good laugh at the expense of the "barbarian" who equipped themselves in furry high-heeled hip boots and what-not to oppose them. -
Quote:I should have posted it here, but when I think Barbarian clothes for women, I think something like this:
I'm not sure what people think of when they think "barbarian," but to me this is nothing more than a rugged individual whose character is based around survival off the land, yet is also restricted to pre-iron-age technology.
What this means for my expectations for what women should get is, essentially, animal hide clothes, war paint... Would this not be the best place to put in a muscular female skin, I ask you? But my personal pet peeves aside, I was expecting something rugged which looked like the clothes of a survivalist and warrior. What I'm seeing in those pics looks... Not like that. Maybe there's more we haven't seen.
This is the type of amazing looking gear I had hoped to see in a barbarian set. Instead we see variations of stuff we have and it just doesn't look too good. I also thought the last few boosters were disappointing. The Celestial set seems to be an improvement in costume trends .... I guess... I will have to wait and see the final barbarian pieces. -
The barbarian stuff looks underwhelming and the boots remind me more of the winter event furry boots etc. Ugh. Another lame booster/costume set. I wish they just dropped celestial set on us. I guess I'll wait and see the final result before truly poo pooing it.
I like the sounds of some new stuff in game. Sadly the new maps look to be more CoT and something else. Same old boring group again. Ah well.
Well, I am sure i21 will hit within a few weeks and I am looking forward to seeing all the new stuff and hopefully a large increase in player numbers.
Thanks to everyone who reported the info on here. Much appreciated.
I also do love the fact they are designing cool looking bosses like the Abomination. As soon as he goes into the game I will be reporting his name and will enjoy fighting him as Generic 02345765247. -
