Indeed, I did. And before being questioned further, I expanded on what I meant by "the same way". The overarching point being that none of those things is actually a buff to Defenders, despite the fact that they can increase the Defender's damage (or vice versa depending on POV).
That is an insignificant difference in their damage contribution as regards defenders. Because they work that way for everyone. What's significant with Defenders is the multiplicative effects of their buffs/debuffs in the presence of more friendly entities contributing to damage. The fact that they are exterior to the Defender AT, is what makes them *not* a buff to Defenders. They're just something that everyone can get.Quote:They're not. You cannot summon teammates with a click of a button regardless of how many players are in your team, and control them like pets. Therefore their damage contribution is significantly different.
Of course, that multiplicative effect (be it with pets or teammates) is probably why the Devs will ever be loathe to actually buff Defenders' damage. -
Quote:I, for one, am not saying that Lore pets are not a useful tool. Just that they are seperate from the AT, and thus of limited relevance to questions of balance within the AT. Which is to say that AT x isn't doing enough damage simply because exterior tool y (be it temporary powers, pool powers, IOs, or inspirations) allows them to overcome their AT's limitations.I have never really got the argument that anything that isn't perma isn't worthwhile. T9s, Hasten, inspirations, Lore pets, click accolades, craftable/renewable temp powers, all kind of stuff that is pretty useful perma or not and can be relied on given proper resource management.
That doesn't necessarily make it less amusing to solo SS4 Rula-don with a Six-proc of Brawl by popping your Lore pets, a basket of inspirations, and 14 temporary powers - just less relevant to AT balance discussions. -
I never said they were identical. I said that they buff defender damage in the same way. And then I noted that all of them "are entities apart from the Defender's powersets that can enable the multiplicative effects of the Defender's buffs/debuffs." Nowhere did I say they are identical. Whether they are identical is, indeed, a moot point within the scope of the titular issue.

Quote:I'm sorry, but it is inarguably a defining aspect of all of them. One that is particularly pertinent to the titular issue. That's not the definition of either lore pets or temporary pets and teammates, sorry.
You can, however, say that they're both fruit and anyone who disagreed with you on the point would look quite foolish.Quote:You can't compare apples to oranges, and then say apples are the same as oranges because both are round and juicy. -
If damage is the only major difference betwee the two when both are buffed to their max, isn't it, in fact, the only metric that matters in that comparison?

Lore pets are a buff to Defender damage in the same way that team mates are a buff to Defender damage.

Brutes aren't tough enough, in my experience. In my experience, IO set bonuses and Incarnate slots are a tantalizing pipe dream. I'm looking forward to Super Reflexes just because I might finally be able to have a character at the mythical defense soft cap (outside of PFF).

Quote:I'd like it to feel like a super hero comic, myself. Like the one with that guy who is nigh invulnerable and still manages to hit harder than a sleepy kitten.Sounds like you want to turn this game into a generic fantasy MMO setting, when I'd rather keep it to feeling like a super hero comic

I'm looking forward to Super Reflexes for Tankers. Just because I might finally be able to have a character (outside of PFF) at the mythical Defense soft cap I always hear people yammering on about.

I was very excited about this game prior to its release, and disappointed with it once I got my hands on it. I would love to have a better superhero game to play, and I have tried the others that have come out, but thus far this is the best there is.
Of course, I don't think I spew nearly as much vitriol onto the boards these days, but I have been quite vocal in the past to the point that people questioned why I play a game that I hate. Ultimately, I think it's because I love many of the characters I've created here. Though sometimes I think it's because I'm addicted to these message boards.

Quote:Given other concerns people seem to have about SR, it seems like they could put a small Res buff per enemy in the Evasion aura."Because they don't need it" was Castle's way of trying to point out that not all SR scrappers want to draw aggro every time they turn on AoE protection. Unlike, say, Invuln, their protection doesn't scale up with targets rushing up to attack them. So while Invuln's taunt aura helps invincibility, a taunt aura in Evasion just draws more incoming damage.

While "Resistant" is underwhelming, "Ironclad" brings back too many bad memories of Champions.

"Some say, she is a supernatural creature from the far side of the world.
"Some say, she had her head stolen by an evil pharmaceutical company.
"All we really know is she's called Celty.*"

*(in the first few eps when I didn't know her name, I needed a shorthand for the character, so I called her 'Cat-Stig'

I would pay to be able to start hero-side with a CoV AT.

Until a few hours ago, the *shortest* time since log in for any of my characters was 63 days.

I started watching Baccano! after it was mentioned in this thread, and I'll probably watch all of it. The story is a bit disjointed, but all of the threads have been interesting and I get the sense it may be going somewhere. And it's decent quality, too.

Quote:If the manga is, as you said, black and white, then the writer didn't really make a stylistic choice to not colour the background characters given that *everything* was black and white. Thus, the reason I didn't comment on the writer driving the stylistic choice is that the premise was illogical.and no comment at all about how that style choice was driven by the writer
And really, I prefer to like anime, generally speaking. I'm not determined to dislike this anime, it's just not particularly good quality, and rather than focussing on the stuff that might have pulled me in despite the quality it focussed on banal characters and a lifeless chatroom. Had it spent less time on those uninteresting things, I would probably have kept watching just to find out what the deal is with the headless biker and the scarred girl.
On the other hand, I've powered through some disappointing anime lately that started out with highly interesting episodes and then just went nowhere or left out all the important stuff (glares at Ga-Rei Zero and Tokyo Majin), so at least this one didn't draw me in just to disappoint me later. -
Quote:Even with End Reds slotted in attacks, with many characters I find it easy enough to run out of End without the extra drain of the over-expensive Toughness and Weave toggles.I always interpreted the opening power in Fighting as a "tax" power to at least give some reason why every melee character shouldn't automatically include Toughness or Weave in their build. Basically you are paying either 2 slots or 1 and a half slots to get that advantage. If we must, buff Punch and Kick (but be careful about it).

Quote:I didn't care enough about what they were saying to give a zeni about who or why. It was more like: hey, they're talking about stuff that the story could be *showing* me instead of sticking me in this dull chat room screen. Even showing the backs of the characters typing would have been better - at least it would have given something to identify them with. You're supposed to be intrigued by that, my man. Who are these three? Why are they sharing this chat room? How will it tie back into the story? Have you no sense of mystery?
Many anime come from black and white manga. And when they're not lazy they manage to colour everything. -

This wasn't already live? :P
