  1. I agree.

Also, that other competitor from Cryptic does this already(albeit their whole UI could be better).

I have to agree with the facepalming lemur.

I prefer visibility and simplicity of information whenever possible, especially when it doesn't take much effort(random websites already know my time and location ).
  3. Why can't the server list in the game update just as the one on the status page website does?

Every time there is a planned or unplanned downtime the servers still show their last status before the lights went out as if they are still running.
There is no warning in the launcher of unintended downtime or really even planned downtime sometimes.

Why can't the list update with the actual server status?
Do you really want us to think the game is broken because the server says it is up but doesn't let us get to the character screen?

Why can't the in game server list update status?
  4. I had the first crash again, this time on a Lambda trial.

I noticed that my team and league windows were registering that I had no team this time. I asked if I was still on the league and people replied that I was, but I crashed fairly quickly after that, during the last phase of the Lambda trial.

They did fix one thing though. I got my Empyrean Merit and incarnate salvage choice when I logged back in. I'm very glad for this change, even if the crash sucks.
Of course, I could have just been lucky and actually been online for the end, but I hope this was a change they made.

Actually, this was the case before, but not so much since Going Rogue.
You may have noticed that the tourist alignments, vigilante and rogue, are unable to get contacts to give them missions on the other alignment side.

They could just apply that same code to the pillars and the issue is solved.
I think it's more an issue of time and focus at this point.

I also have believed for quite some time that this game, like others, is in need of an overhaul. I'm looking forward to CoH3 if they are working on it.

    Ups ?

Your system performance isn't likely any different because of your computer's performance sucking wind. Trust me, I had less than ideal performance with a GTX 465 before a friend had me do a quick few things and suddenly I had ultra mode almost maxed.

The UPS is more of a battery back-up. They are meant to give you time to shut down so you don't lose data.

If the power surge did damage something on your computer, check your surge protector. They sometimes have warranties that protect anything connected through them up to a certain value. You can get the parts replaced then.

I guess the question is, does the power go out often there? A UPS would only really be worth the expense then, since they are not cheap.
  9. I think I figured out the issue.

I just crashed again, but this time I had the error where I lost access to powers; they were grayed out.
I crashed shortly after switching builds to clear it.

The bug looks a lot like when you exemplar and all your powers gray out except the really low level ones, but also like when you switch builds and you have to level up(as the level up arrow was blinking on my 50).

I had that happen, but then I switched builds and ran around waiting for the switch timer to end to switch back. I ended up having a weird error where I apparently flew way up in the sky and fell down instantly, not getting hurt, but picking myself up as if I had lost all health for an instant.

It seems to me, since both times I was on a team/league, that this is a bug with the super-side-kicking system treating me as if I was side-kicked to an "indeterminate" level player(my team window blacked out) thus resetting me to level 2 or so.

I suspect I didn't have the error of being temporarily low level the first time because the crash immediately came with the error instead of a short time after.

I'm pretty sure this is a problem with the super-side-kicking system and possible its interaction with leagues, or maybe the level shift of the alpha slot(as my widow was the toon this happened to and he is level shifted).

It could also be a problem with the build switching system, but I had never used that system before this error.

Today was the first time I experienced these errors.

    Edit:
Apparently this latest time, I was definitely side-kicked in a team to a level 50 though my character is a 50+1 incarnate.

    Edit 2:
This could be related to(recently heard of this) this issue where level 51s were being killed by level 1s some time back.
Maybe level 50+ toons are being treated as 0+.

Maybe there was code in the side-kick system to prevent this from beign an issue and it just breaks with enough lag, as I was lagging a lot.
    It makes sense.

    Edit 3:
That would also explain why it is apparently only level 50s, likely with level shifts and on incarnate trials, reporting this error.
  10. Never mind about the Empyrean Merit. I got it my second run. I feel silly for this post now.

    Edit:
I almost crashed the second run again though right at the reward box. It was as if mouse look locked on and the mouse spun.
Could it be that the reward box function is broken?
  11. I waited a half hour, nothing changed and computer was still on the whole time, because I was afraid it would spread to other characters.

I am now logged in on the character that the problem started on without any issues.

If this is an issue on my end then it obviously does not make any sense, but it makes perfect sense if the server ate some of my characters for a little while.
  12. 1) Nothing destroys fun more than a poor performing, especially if not working at all, game.
When something destroys fun then we don't pay, so you may want to look into making this game the best running game out there before many of us find a better one.

    2) I don't know how you're going to get new free or old premium members to pay any money for this game with crashes and bugs much too often(twice is one time too many let alone more) while giving them no customer support.
Find a way to give them support or you'll lose money with Freedom and probably kill the game as even subscribers have worse performance due to increased load.

Why not try the LOTRO method of at least offering support until 30 days from the use of store points? it gives them support while encouraging monthly purchases. That should be the minimum offered.

    3) Why not at least allow us to play the game offline when we pay the box price? You get money and we get to game even when the server is down while costing you no server resources thus saving you money. It would also be much more reliable to have most of the game's processing take place on our computers rather than overloading and burning out the servers unnecessarily.
Give this some thought as the "non-mmo" market is at least 100 times larger than the MMO one, and offline RPGs, of the scope that CoH could be such as Oblivion, are definitely popular.
(Edit: Having the client be more responsible would also mean less support request since support wouldn't be able to do anything and the servers would not be responsible most of the time for errors, bugs and lost items. That saves time and money. I don't care if it is "not how things are" or "a lot of work" because it could be how things should be and would be worth the effort if it results in a better performing game for us all.)

    On to the issue....

First, my game has been running perfectly, if at lower graphics than it is capable of due to system issues that have been solved, for a long time, besides the usual lag and occasional server "lost connection to mapserver" mass issues for people all at the same time.
Last night I changed things to get better performance and got better performance than I dreamed. I had professional help from a fellow player who only had me do the safe things that work perfectly. I tested it extensively last night, including on incarnate trials and in Praetoria.

My computer works perfectly and runs CoH better than ever with less lag and never a graphical stutter, now.
I have never been happier with the game than since the changes I made.

But today, I was running a BAF trial on the same character that had tested extensively the night before. I had been, and always do, monitoring my netgraph and fps statistics. I have my maxfps set at 30 for perfectly smooth constant frame rate everywhere except the most demanding areas.
The trial was running about 200 ping, as usual for any place in the game, and a constant 24-30 fps, perfectly smooth and uniform and wonderful looking graphics.

We had a really long BAF run because the league was weak, and when Nightstar and Siege were down to 5% health each, I saw the Windows 7 "working" mouse symbol. "NOOOOOOOO", I screamed. It was a bad time, and the game, which was still sitting their frozen while Windows brought up the error box, showed still perfect fps and netgraph.
    I had no warning.

Still, I chocked it up to crap luck with a server hiccup and decided to get back and maybe they would still be up or I would still get the empyrean merit I was after. I started the game back up, which had crashed full out. I logged back in to the character list. I logged my same toon in, but it stopped at less than 10% of the load bar to Pocket D.

    I tried again, same result.

I tried a female toon in the Shadow Shard, Firebase Zulu, instead, and I got in without any hiccup or issue.

I relogged to my toon that crashed, but met the same result as before.

I checked for updates, set the launcher to check and repair the game, and booted the game up again. I met with the same result.

I rebooted my entire PC this time just to make sure, and repaired the game again.
I still could not log that character in.

I decided to try other characters. First,
I logged the female toon in the Shadow Shard again without any issues. I then went to try another character to see if I could enter Pocket D and see if it was a zone issue, a character I don't play much. That character couldn't get past loading in at the same point as the one that originally crashed despite being in the Rikti Warzone and not Pocket D.
I decided to try yet another toon who I knew to be in a low load area, the no powers room in Founder Falls AE, but even he could not load in.

Every time I brought the game up after every crash it always still said I was still logged in.

I ended up going back to the female toon in the Shadow Shard to login and see if she still worked, and she was still getting in just fine with no issues.

I'm afraid to make the toon leave the Shadow Shard. I can't tell if the issue is just random characters or male toons only or every zone but the shadow Shard.
The repair tool ran and no errors were brought to my attention, graphics load is fine and the netgraph could not be smoother. Th rest of my PC runs fine.
I'm even posting this while still logged in on that toon that works. My system can handle much more than Firefox and the game at the same time.

I know this isn't my computer, as I can login one toon without a single issue and it has performed better than expected for a very long time as well as absolutely beautifully the past 24 hours.

This is a server issue, perhaps where those characters are stored or those zones they were in are stored. They are all zones that have had changes more recently than the Shadow Shard has.

I don't know what is causing it. I can just say I'm very dissatisfied with the service, the completely impossible to prevent issues and the fact that I just can't play how and when I want even if I have to do so offline(if only I could).

I just want to play this great game without the bugs and crappy code that kills it. It would be light years closer to perfect if only it were more reliable and relied on the clients more rather than having so much on the server and expecting perfect internet connections from clients.

Please please, I'm begging, fix this, greatly improve performance and reliability before Freedom, and allow the free, and us premium vets and new purchasers, to get support when things like this happen so that we have reason to spend money on this game, rather than reason to not spend because of issues going without assistance in solving them.
  13. I would love to see it available year round through Ouroboros like the old Galaxy City will be.
It would also help during the winter holiday for getting badges if Pocket D is too full(of badgers and incarnate trial teams and the new sewers trial teams0) to have your own instance for you and your friends in your team.

They could disable the NPCs during the "off-season", but I want the area to play around with and relax in.

I don't think for a minute you would win and neither do you. It is painfully obvious that you are realizing how wrong you are and now you are back tracking.

Please, sue them. Go for it.
Mo, I'm not backtracking. I still have plenty of things to use that I have posted here.

Also whether the coffee was too hot or not, the person knew it would be hot and that spilling it would not be good. The Mcdonalds did not spill it and did not need to do anything differently. They didn't even need to pay as much as they paid.
That person got a huge settlement for their own stupid mistake, and I'm pretty sure it was actually intentional, especially since nobody could prove the coffee was too hot after it spilled, even a burn on the skin could be faked especially if planned ahead of time.

I'm not even going to pull stupid illegal crap like that.

I just don't want to take anyone to court. I wouldn't want to be taken to court.
I'm not sue-happy. I just want a fair deal and want companies to stop double-dipping into my wallet and everything.

I don't want to kill this game with a lawsuit, which may be pretty likely with a big settlement especially with others claiming damages in a class action suit that would follow the same example.

It's a big issue for companies that they need to heed and prevent, which will result in fairer pricing and service for us customers.

I don't need to go sue and get more than I need or deserve for it. I just want a fair deal.

Good luck with your lawsuit. Really, I want you to try it, so that it can be slapped down hard enough that others who attempt to use your flawed reasoning will take notice and not clog up our lives with such wrongness any further.
What happened to the case about the person spilling hot coffee on themselves that they bought from Mcdonalds knowing, by sheer common sense, that it was hot?

Obviously, far more illogical and stupid things have been tried in court and resulted in a win for the plaintiff.(correction: resulted in at least a settlement and change of policy)
I'm pretty confident that if I wanted to I could get money, but I would rather have a good game that kill it to try and teach a lesson.

    1) If it varies case by case then this case has not been tested and should be. Citing examples that do the same and are fine are not proof of your side of the argument either in that case.

    It has to be tried.

    2) Gas is a product, not a service. It does not do something for you. You use it up. It does not get used up when you don't use it.

A car is the same way. Even if you don't drive it you can, even if it is illegal in many places for whatever reason(usually to do with drugs or alcohol), sleep in it or store stuff in it.
It may not be used for its full intended purpose, but it can be used for part of its purpose(protecting you from the elements, even if while you're sleeping instead of driving).

I'm talking about the incarnate system which will be exclusive to only subscribers. It will definitely likely see a decrease, per server at least except maybe the VIP one, because of subscribers choosing to unsubscribe or move to another server for whatever reason.
It may not be large, but plenty of servers already have trouble forming large enough groups.

Yes, there may be new subscribers, but if they aren't currently subscribing then chances are they don't view the game as worth a subscription.
And, they can't be guaranteed to subscribe.

Leaving that system completely exclusive is a risky move.

Basically, the child shouldn't have been clicking the "I Agree" button without a parent's consent. And any lawyer would tell you the same.
But, that is something the child has to read and recognize to ask his parents about. There is nothing preventing them from logging in without parent consent, not even debit cards these days considering that they are so ubiquitous.

That clause only works when there is a means of preventing a person who, legally, is not liable for their own actions in the situation and is unable to proceed without help. Those that are able to proceed are assumed to be fully knowledgeable and capable despite the truth of the fact that they may not be either.

Go ahead; prove that a child asked his parents for permission before even buying the game and before playing it.

Implied consent doesn't even work, such as "you gave him a debit card" because such things are not only used for services that require consent.

They may spread out among the servers and not agree on one central server to go to as well, except the VIP server. Those who choose to stay will find less people for exclusive content then.

It's just a concern, not a certainty, that it will become obvious and problematic.

All I am saying is that the practice of selling content and then selling the time, without which it can't be used, to use it, especially without at least some time to use it no matter how small the content or time(though that can be illegally small), is shady at best and illegal at worst.

It can and should be tried in a court of law.

    Edit:
I'm done with this topic because you people just dismiss it rather than ever think "what could make him right?" which would be the objective way of finding the truth.

    Right here.

If you scroll down to Paragraph 2, you'll notice it's called "Description of Service." It states, in part: "NC Interactive offers Game(s) as massively multiplayer subscription-based comic book hero and villain role-playing game(s) service and fee-based additional features..."

    "To use the Service..."
"Anyone desiring to use the Service..."
"The Web Site is an active part of the Service..."

They're offering a service, not an ownable product.

And under Section 3, "License to Use":

"Subject to the terms of this Agreement, NC Interactive grants to you, for your personal use only, a non-exclusive, revocable, nontransferable (except as permitted in Section 4(a)) license to use the Service, and a non-exclusive, revocable, nontransferable (except as permitted in Section 4(a)) license to use the Software in connection with the Service, for a duration as defined in Section 5 for so long as you maintain an authorized and fully-paid Account.

They're letting you use the game as long as you pay. You don't own it.

Yes, but then why charge for the content as an ownership fee at all?
Why can we not use the product offline when it costs them nothing for that so long as we pay for the content to cover the cost of the content.

My issue is that the status of the game as a product, service or both has never been tested, nor the resultant fees of them charging as both a product and a service.

Sure, the EULA may say that, but they certainly don't rice or sell the content as a service. They offer a physical box even. That's not what a service provides and it isn't under the price of the service entirely, $15.

I wouldn't be surprised if this were to go to court and prove to all of you that you were being misled and duped into paying more than you should have for a product and/or service that you did not get the full value of, which is where price-gouging comes in with the full value argument.

    Edit:
Yes, we are forced to agree to the EULA when we sign in to the game every time, but there are still questions.

    1) Is the wording legal?
    2) Is the actual execution of the product/service legal in perfect accordance with the wording of the EULA?
    3) Is the EULA legally binding without a user signature and when most users don't, and can hardly be expected to, read the whole thing, especially considering many of those users are able to purchase and play as young as age 13 when they can't be held legally responsible for contractual obligations without a parent or guardian to cosign?

It's pretty murky at best, and illegal at worst.

Maybe. I admit that, especially if you were the judge having a vested interest in your own habit of paying for content and subscribing being justified and legal rather than having been taken advantage of.

There are other people out there though. You are not in control of the legal system no completely objective, without a vested interest either way.

I would still like to see this tried if companies will not be more fair to their customers voluntarily.
