  1. To be specific....

    1) Are you using the "Add Note" box to check the global handle?
(Edit: the add not window also shows character names right below the global handle. You may have read the information and mistook a character name for the global.)

    2) Are you absolutely sure it was the same person every time you checked the global handle?

    3) Did you also use the /getglobalname function?

The only possible idea I have is that this person is somebody you encountered before(or maybe never encountered and it is just a server snaffu) who has changed their global handle since they started, after you met them, and maybe the Add Note window is displaying their old global handle instead of the new.

Are there BIOS settings I forgot to adjust first, or is this card just too much for this MB? (MB specs here: http://www.ascendtech.us/dell-dimens...eldim4700.aspx )

Thanks in advance for all advice.
    1) What brand is the old card?
Nvidia has had fan control issues for a little while at least, causing overheating.

This can be fixed by downloading and setting the fan speed manually in:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia-...08-driver.html
(Though, that may not be a version of the software your computer and video card can support.)

That will keep a Nvidia card from overheating as much by making sure the fan is already humming along, instead of ramping up less than it needs to.

Other companies will have their own software for this(probably AMD/ATI).

    2) I can't tell if your motherboard's x16 PCI slot is 1.0 or 2.0.
Your new card obviously requires 2.0 spec.

I even Googled the motherboard to search other sites for the information. It just doesn't specifiy. This leads me to believe that your motherboard uses 1.0 spec in that slot, though I can't be sure.

That would be the issue with the new card if so.

I'm at the limit of my knowledge so far though.

    That is an issue.
It may not be the cause of your specific issue, but it is a problem.

You see the "advanced settings" are not really "advanced", as in "more power".
It just allows you to set each option individually, rather than as a bulk setting determined by the code the developer of the game wrote.

What they think is a "performance setting" may actually have certain things set higher than what your computer can handle. It may also have certain things set lower than your computer can handle, causing graphical glitches as well.
A good example of this is someone else posting here that their Umbral Beast from Dark Control that has a glowmap looked like a pastel pooch(no glow) because their shader setting was medium instead of high.

I suggest selecting "advanced" and changing things manually to make sure they are all within the limits of your graphics, and possibly see if something fixes your issue.

Other than that, you're stuck waiting for a new card. Sorry
  4. Nvidia still seems to have less issues across all games, especially their cards that are not the current generation and older drivers.

It seems every new driver from AMD/ATI has issues and they just make people uninstall it and install a completely new driver to fix the issue.

I also haven't heard of people having to uninstall then reinstall the same driver to get it to work for Nvidia, and certainly not as often as AMD tells people to.

Seriously, AMD/ATI may be cheaper and just as good(once they replace the newest driver) but Nvidia is just simpler for most people. Nvidia just works more often.
I'm not a fan. I just like good reliable performance.
  5. This also happens with the costume change window when the Seed of Hamidon is north of the center of First Ward.

Now, maybe there is a 'baked in' brawl sort of ability in them, anyway, that is suppressed, perhaps? Or something similar. Still, though, without any melee attack at all, Prot Bots still run into melee.
Yes, they still have brawl. I believe it is "suppressed".

    But....

    1) Protector Bots run into melee a lot less than the bots who do have and use brawl.

    2) My idea is for a solution to brawl making them run into melee when they should be focusing on ranged attacks.
Protector Bots are not the main focus nor the only focus.

This would make all pet AI a lot better. It could also probably apply to enemies as well so that ranged enemies stay more reliably out of melee, even if players may not like it when they don't bunch up for AoE. :P

    Edit:
If they wanted to make "only ranged" pets/enemies then they could probably just add an effect to brawl(like tanker's bruising or controller containment or like Pack Mentality stacks) that cancels brawl immediately when it is queued. It could be a part of their brawl or be a "special power granter" like how Pack Mentality supposedly works.
That's a good way to force pets to focus on their powers other than brawl, but it would essentially remove brawl from their powers list(could be a bad thing for pets that run out of endurance, though they're useless at that point).
  7. I don't think it's reachable.

But the snarky answer to "what is the mez resist cap?" is "protection". :P
  8. If I had to guess, it looks like City of Heroes takes a snapshot of your character(maybe NPCs as well), as if they were in the default center of a zone, when it loads up any picture of that character.
This would explain why there is so much latency/stuttering when the contact lists are opened for the first time during a play session, and the Seed of Hamidon aura graphics appearing when the Seed is in the proper position just north of the central building in First Ward.

This is similar to how CO saves and loads costume data as well.

It's very inefficient and may be causing more problems than the bugs I listed. I don't know.

    Interesting.
I have noticed that my Nvidia card doesn't ramp up enough under high heat situations to compensate for the heat.
I solved the issue by downloading their Nvidia System Tools and using the performance program to manually set my fan speed higher. It has worked for the past year and a half.

I think it is also the default. I am surprised if AMD/ATI settings tools don't say that and/or default to "application controlled".

There are still both TFs and SFs that are very rarely run but never form a WST.
The developers said they intentionally looked for TFs/SFs with opposite alignment equivalents.
There are no WSTs that are not neutral or have a version on both sides, by design.

I forgot why they did it, but it is the way it is intentionally.

True, but I find it hard to believe that the developers would let it go unsolved with a solution present.

After all, there is the old argument that not every developer works on everything. There are artists and coders and even more divisions than that.

Chances are there would be somebody with the ability free to solve this, at least for enough time if they already have an answer, rather than all be devoted to adding another store purchase.

They would still close if no powers are charged but it would still be a massive improvement. A jerky stop/go closing movement might be a problem, but that would probably be easy to fix.
Exactly, queuing(wow! so that's the "ing" form of that) brawl seems to override every other attack, and often overrides commands to heel as well. Canceling it with commands such as Passive and Defensive stance commands and the ranged attacks when they activate is a logically good idea.

Last I checked, my robot pets healed and refreshed the shields while on passive.

I've heard of too many problems in every game I have ever played with AMD/ATI cards.
I've also heard that AMD/ATI doesn't always support the newer graphics options that DirectX brings, or that OpenGL adopts as well.

    My conclusion?
If you want to just play without hassle....go with Nvidia.

    Edit:
Nvidia also doesn't have, what looks like, half of their drivers cause big problems with games such that people need to have threads devoted to which ones are tested and proven "not problematic" on game forums.
I'll stick with reliability even if it may mean increased cost. Thank you. :P

Well, it is solvable. I am not having that issue, but he is.

Could be that integrated graphics are not enough, at least at the settings he has, to run the new Atlas graphics.

Ultra mode on or off, the newer zones use a lot more graphical power, and even seem to perform better with some of ultra mode on than they do off on the same hardware and software.
  17. I post this here because it may be a symptom of a bigger problem. It also probably is not noticed by many people so not reported.

If you go to Grant Creston in First Ward and select "customize appearance", while the Seed of Hamidon is on the northern part of its path, then you can see the graphics of the big bubble aura the Seed has behind your character's portait, in front of the blue background, on the costume slot selection screen.

    I have reproduced this.

    Edit:
My character was also facing north at the time, standing slightly southwest of Grant Creston.

Nothing should "bleed through" from the zone into the costume slot selection window, especially something 0.5 kilometers away. This hints at a pretty big inefficiency with the graphics of this game.

Also, another bug I see is every time I open any contact tab for the first time on a character during a play session, my graphics stutter and reset like it is being overloaded by loading all the portraits of the contacts in the list. This seems related to the costume slot graphical bug above.

    Edit 2:
The first thing above has been around since First Ward, but the bug in the first edit has been around at least since I can back from a break from the game with issue 18, when I was gone since issue 13.

Possibly but, performance is the most important thing when it comes to games(along with usability but usability requires good performance).

They can't add their cash shop purchases and expect them to go over well with bugs putting people off of them.

If that is true then it may be intentional and a one time issue.

It could be that they just cleaned some things up with the combat attributes window and monitor, which resulted in everyone having to reset what they were monitoring under the new organizational background coding.

I haven't seen this after refilling my monitor since.

It seemed to only affect my first login, but I haven't went to alts yet to see if they have the bug or if it resets my main's settings again.

So far, playing just my main has kept everything where I put it back to after the initial bug(including attribute monitor), so long as I don't try loading settings from saved anymore.

Still had these issues(edge dragging, moving windows, attributes monitor) when issue 22 went live.

If I load my window settings from saved defaults then I will see the windows move again and have to move them twice to move them back(don't want to move to the edge in one fluid motion).

It's one of the stickies above.

I'm absolutely shocked if a driver from 2010 is the newest and best one available to you.
  23. What are your settings?

You could try lowering them, even safe mode, but sometimes they can be too low.

I noticed this was in the redone Atlas Park. Does it do this in the older zones?

What does it looks like in first person view?

This is a really odd graphical error, especially since it seems the ground is fine near the top of the screen but seems to split into two levels that grow wider apart working from the top of the screen to the bottom(background to foreground)..

That won't go over well. People would rather have the bug(I would) than have pet management be even more complicated.

I don't think stay can be made more absolute either, simply because of how the AI works.
As soon as the pet queues an attack, they will try to get in range to use it. They will chase that enemy down until they can.

That is not something that can be changed at all easily.

But, it is an idea, and if they were going to do that then they would likely be best off completely rewriting the pet behavior code.
Again, it's a lot more work than they have been willing to do, especially for free now since they couldn't charge for a fix.

Simple is usually best anyway according to the law of K.I.S.S.

You didn't control them manually, instead you used a flowchart like system to design an AI for them to use. If a queue wasn't used, the AI would be ok if two different actions had differing ranges. But if both had the same range, only one would be used. The last action on the list would be done because the AI wouldn't wait on earlier actions to be done. In the case of MM pets, if healing or buffing is also ranged, favoritism would got to the last action. Either healing, buffing, or ranged attack. Not a problem with buffing as without favoritism, it would just be done when the other actions weren't (not in battle). But in a battle, the pets would either attack and never heal, or heal and never attack. Not having queue on melee attacks and having them first on the action list and then starting over if melee is done (enemy is in melee range), but still having queue on other actions may work. The only problem then would be melee pets, like thugs Bruiser. They wouldn't close to melee unless all ranged attacks were charging. Now i got flowcharts on the brain
That is not how this game works.

    1) Pets only buff or heal when another pet is sufficiently injured or the buffs expire(which they are constantly using as soon as recharged even when unnecessary).

    2) Pet attacks are weighted by the developers. They like to use them in a certain order, if they are all recharged.

    3) Pets will still buff and heal in a passive or defensive state when not attacking. The stances really only affect whether they are allowed to attack or not, and thus chase or not.

    4) Pets always use powers as soon as they are recharged. That is why they like to run in to brawl so much. Any gap in the attack chain is filled by brawl(whether they can actually use it or not, meaning they may run into melee to sit there), so they brawla lot more at lower levels.

That is why I believe my idea will work.
The AI is very simple for pets. The devs have even said "they don't use AI". It's just a "dumb" priority system with simple commands.

All they need to do is stop the pets from queueing brawl(which they do whether they can use it or not) and thus activating the code for "get into range" that sends them into melee.

Currently, they try to make pets "smarter" by changing the recharges on their powers and other methods, but it isn't that successful obviously. They have had some success, but they just can't keep the pets from queueing brawl and thus running into melee.

They can't just delete brawl either, according to the developers. It's an intrinsic part of the pets, like every player character has it and every enemy has some melee whack.
It is also still useful when the pets are out of endurance.
