Wow! I'm definately going to have to save this thread and keep it as a reference in case I get a little confused while playing.
I confess some of your posts are Greek to me (tank, kin, healer, etc.), I'm sure I'll get all these terms eventually.
And as for the name, I've written an e-mail, but I'm assuming that will take a minute or two. I think it's more funny than anything, but I guess not so much...

I've tried to work through the site's technical assistance, and to say that they didn't seem to care would be an understatement. Per instructions, I've unblocked the ports the game seems to use, allowed access through my firewall, etc, etc...
But my problem is that my updater is making it roughly 15 megs into a 3 gig download before it resets and starts the whole process over again.
I've written the tech assistance guys again, but I don't anticipate anything other than a reply to a link with another blanket troubleshooting tool, without any regard that my problem could be unique, or require specific attention.
*Deep sigh*
Sorry, sometimes I get aggrevated at the dehumanization of all customer service.
On that note, has anyone had this problem before? Is there anything I can do to test if the problem is on my system, my network adapter, software, etc?
I appreciate any advice or information. -

I wrote a long diatribe in my other thread about why I didn't want to change it, but it's obviously a bigger issue than I thought.
I wrote the email address provided in the other thread and requested a change, so hopefully it will be taken care of shortly.

Yep, the game has to patch to the current version in order to play, although it shouldn't be taking that long... either you're on a very slow connection or something on your machine is hogging all the bandwidth.
As an aside I'd rather strongly suggest you change your forum handle by sending an email to CoHForums@ncsoft.com and requesting a change... your current one is likely to get hit by the ban-hammer and even if it doesn't it will create a negative impression of you in everyone's mind.
I would understand if the moderators decided to require me to change my handle. I've gone by the online name since I was a teenager, and it wouldn't be the first time.
However, if they do not, I won't change it based on how other people view me. I would hope that my behavior, responses and actions would carry more weight with how others view me as opposed to 7 letters next to my posts. I can certainly understand how some people may view it as offensive, but I learned a long time ago that no matter how soft you tip-toe, you will always offend SOMEONE, so why not just do what you feel is ok?
I do appreciate you trying to help me out though. Hopefully I won't have to worry about too many people ganging up on me inside the game because of that name! :-D -
Does anyone have any advice for a first time player? Not just first-time for THIS game, but really ALL MMORPGs.
I plan on being a villian, so I can murder innocents. Just to relieve stress and all that. -

Hi, I'm very new to the world of MMORPG, and online gaming in general. So please excuse any stupid questions that are about to appear.
I downloaded the 14-day free trial of City of Heroes, and went through the registration, serial code, verification process. Now when I open the program, the only option is to open the City of Heroes Updater. This wouldn't be so bad, if it wasn't trying to download 3 gigs of information.
My question is: Do I have to wait for this updater to finish before starting the game? If not, how do I start it? It's only downloading at about 15k, so if I have to wait, the first 4 days of the 14-day trial will be spent waiting.
It's the corporations!!
Again, this may be a really dumb question, but I appreciate any assistance or guidance. Thanks in advance!
