  2. Here is a character study I did of Ghost Widow for a piece I am working on.

    Ghost Widow
  3. May 3rd is Free Comic Book Day! Comic shops all over the country will be giving out free comics sent to them by publishers.

Anyone in the Modesto area, I will be drawing pictures and selling sketchbooks at Bonanza Books & Comics 2308 McHenry Ave. Modesto CA 95350. Come on down it should be lots of fun! There are gonna be Stormtroopers there as well as a couple of other artists!

    Sketches - $5
(12 and under get a free one)

Sketchbooks (with a sketch on the back) - $10

I will also be showing my full color Silver Surfer Print that IS for sale.

    See ya there!
  4. Here is an old Silver Surfer drawing I did months ago but just finished the redraw and colors tonight. Took along time because my computer was packed away whilst I was "in-between apartments" (nice way of saying living at mom's out of a suitcase because of my crazy room-mate). But I have my own place now that I can decorate however I want!.. and this will be the first piece to hang on my wall...

    Silver Surfer

    Next project... Ghost Widow!

  5. Little sketch I did during lunch time. Legs look funny (as do the hips and hand) but that's what ya get when you rush through the preliminary sketch.

Feels good to be back! My computer has been packed away whilst I was living with my Parents and saving money to get my new apartment. Now I can play CoV again AND draw! AND not worry about any pyscho roommates being freaks while I am sleeping!!

  6. That really is a great site. Design is awesome. Good functionality. Rollovers are a very nice touch.
  7. You can do this in Photoshop. It's easy. You can also download the newest version of Photoshop online (there is usually a trial version or the "LE" version).

    As fer stealing images....

Sounds to me like ya just like the image and want to something cool with it. There is no harm or foul in that. It may be different if you were going to alter to sell as a label or a graphic to be used commercially.

If a person makes a profit off of said image THEN I consider it stealing. As for what it sounds like you are doing...this just seems like a little art project no different than someone who clips out magazine ads to make a collage.

If they did not want these images used as such...don't post em on the internet.

As for the "how to do it?"...

There are several ways in Photoshop. I would recommend going to Selection>Color Range on the tab menu for an easy color selection.

    tips please

Go out and buy both Ben Caldwell books. Action Cartooning and Fantasy Cartooning he has some really good tips on cartooning hands.

Remember Ben CALDWELL, not Ben AFFLECK! Affleck's drawing books are horrible, everything always ends up looking like Matt Damon.

    The Shadow

I E-mailed Tim Sale and asked him about it and he responded!! Here is his response:

"It takes a lot of practice, Patrick, and the trick is to wet the area with clear water first, making sure it's not so wet still that it's shiny when you tilt it to the light (or tilt your head). But I would recommend first that you not worry so much about it. I never do anymore, and I like the texture that it gives.

    Tim"

I thought that it was really cool that he actually took the time to help me out. Now I only have to drudge through the rest of my stupid workday before I gets to go home and try it out

That's a pretty incredible piece. The only thing that I can pick on is the inconsistent shading pattern on the silhouette, but that's extremely trivial. I love the subtle color play between the smoke wisps and the background. Especially how clean the wisps behind the hat brim but in front of the silhouette of the map brim have been rendered.

I was disappointed with the background shadow as well. I think the problem comes from painting on a dry piece of paper, I seem to recall a technique call "wet on wet" where you wet the surface of the paper, THEN apply the ink. As I said though this is a learning piece and the more I learn from it the better I'll get

If anyone has experience with watercolors or inkwash and can offer some insight on how to avoid that in the future that would be great!

I have a very small problem with how pointy Barda's knees and chin are but I love everything else. Very awsome classic style. I couldn't tell very well in the black and white but love that mister miracle is chained up fits him. The bright colors fit the style also really brings it alive. Great job overall.

Thanks for the comments. The ones praising the work are nice, but the ones that point out flaws are invaluable! It helps me grow as an artist and I really appreciate it.
  13. The coloring was done in Illustrator CS2. I was happy with the boldness of the colors. It's bright lol. I may print one out at work and frame it and hang it in my bathroom.
  14. Here is the Apokolips piece in color.
