  1. lol, we're so caught up on the dynamic and lookup thing.

    just to clarify my position:

Normal Attack Powers: two formulae are used to create power data that is stored in lookup tables.

Radial Proc Damage: two formulae are used to dynamically calculate proc damage.

Me: The formulae for base damage and areafactor used in both processes happen to be the same.

    We cool?

    Apologies, we agree.

The formula for the area factor is exactly what they use to adjust the damage of powers that aren't single target.

(Edit: They changed this plan, so it will only respond to enhanced recharge, but that remains dynamic. It just will change in practice less often.)
The only reason I suggested that there might be some part of the formula that isn't being calculated on the fly is because of the areafactor inconsistencies. I can't explain why, in the few sets I've looked at, they are being treated so differently by almost every aoe and cone.

I do agree that the value of the proc isn't stored in a table somewhere and that this formula is running to determine what the proc does. I just can't figure out why the areafactor is so messed up and guessing that this particular value might be stored in a table was the only thing I can think of because then I can blame the errors on someone screwing the table up.

The damage formula linked in the beginning if this thread isn't a design formula. It's the function that describes the actual "run-time" behavior of the "global proc" that Assault Core adds to every power. Given that run-time nature, it has no way to ever know about the recharge discount Claws powers have. It just calculates its damage on what the recharge actually is.
It's funny that you said it isn't a 'design formula' when it actually contains the real design formula for determining the damage a power does.

I'm not so sure it's calculating this stuff on the fly, either. Well, calculating all of it, anyway. There's a lot of wonky stuff going on with the AoE modifier as it relates to that formula. Some modifiers are rounded down, others are ignored, others are perfectly fine. Some powersets exhibit all of these behaviors at once. The way that the AoE mod is "behaving" makes it feel like an inaccurate lookup table.

I believe they will likely adjust APP powers. I am less certain if they will take the time to adjust powers like Freeze Ray, Stun, and Follow Up.
Claws in general is completely wrong. The cut/paste job they did doesn't account at all for the recharge discount that Claws has. The proc on almost every power, barring Follow Up and Shockwave, is doing much less damage than it should.

I'm willing to bet the Stalker, Brute and Arachnos versions are wrong too.

I'm not sure how intended that is, that a low damage power gets a heavy dmg bonus like this.
  6. I wish I could say that I found a different solution than this one but I bit the bullet and bought a new card.

I wasn't looking for a huge performance boost or too spend a fistful of cash so I picked up a GTX 550 Ti for 130 from newegg. I redid the now familiar driver clean, installed the new card and for the last 2 days I've been playing without a crash (knock on wood). I've put in about 6 hours of time and it's been flawless.

I wish I could have fixed it but I'm just going to chalk it up to a bad card and enjoy. I wish I wouldn't have wasted a year putting up with that behavior though...
  7. And that didn't cause any changes, still crashed repeatedly through a session.

    Try that.

I see you on Triumph Watch once in awhile, so you getting on with a different rig?
when you happen to see me in game, it's the rare time when it stay running for more than 10 minutes.

sorry, I thought I had put that in a previous post.

Every time i update the driver, I uninstall the drivers, restart in safe mode, run the cleaner, and then install the new drivers.

I have Verizon Fios. They give you a modem/router and it currently is sitting under my desk, next to my tower. My computer is plugged directly into it.

Also, I have the 25/25 Mbps plan but often get a better download speed than that. For example. I just did this

Also, and you'll get a kick out of this, CoH just crashed on me again, before I could log in.

Good point, I should mention that i never leave Boinc running while playing. It's a huge resource hog.
  13. I've played with my settings in the past. Nothing gets rid of the crashes.

I'll try the monitoring program though.

My internet is verizon and generally pretty good.
  14. Just wanted to update this.

I ended up not buying another card. I got so frustrated with the game that I pretty much haven't played in since I last posted. Instead, I've been playing other games alot. And in the dozens of hours played, I've had maybe 2-3 crashes over two months.

I picked up CoH again because of the new issue. Just tonight, in the last 15 minutes, I've had 5 crashes and can not get through a single mission.

I understand not every card will be perfect, blah blah blah, but the problem here just really seems to be the game.

The game is unplayable and frankly, I don't know why I should spend money on a new card for one game when there are literally a dozen games that I could be playing that actually work.
  15. Nevermind all this subscription stuff, I want to know why the "image of the well" looks like Rularuu.

What did I miss? I don't recall reading anything hinting at that.
  16. Very cool, I really want to get a better look at these, especially the chest pieces.

  19. Okay, I've been futzing with everything and what with a new driver out today, I'd thought I'd update my drivers and this thread.

I checked out that thread from Terrashock. It's mostly for the 400 series but they had some interesting ideas. I'll be honest, I'm not exactly excited about some of the options they had there, which basically all dealt with the cards BIOS.

You guys have any thoughts on doing that?

Things that have been done that didn't do jack.
    • removing that babylon toolbar. (thanks for the suggestion, I didn't remember even installing that. it's wasting space regardless)
    • turn settings to minimum
    • running windowed vs fullscreen
    • changing the Windows time out limit. All this did was make me wait longer when me screen froze before the game crashed.
    • changing the drivers to literally any available version. None fixed it.
  20. I only recently shifted back to being a Hero from a Vigilante.

Previously, I've done both sides of each of the SSA arcs. Because of this, much of the dialogue treated me like a Villain and not Hero, specifically Scirroco talked about me betraying him and I had to fight Manticore at the end. Did anyone else get these same options as a Hero?

  22. [EDIT: just wanted to put this here first. I ended up not being able to fix the problems I was having with this card. I bought a new card, GTX 550 Ti, for $130 and everything seems to be running fine now. I still have no idea what exactly caused the problem my other card was having.]

Don't worry, I followed the guide and I have my helper and hijack logs ready.

I've seen this issue posted before but never with an actual solution found. I get constant errors with my graphics card, GTX 275, and I'm always seeing error messages related to windows timeout. I've tried editing the registry like a couple other posts have said to try but a longer timeout delay just means that I look at a frozen game for longer before it crashes.

I've done the new driver thing, thoroughly too; download new drivers, uninstall current ones, restart in safe mode, run the cleaner, install new drivers, restart normally. I still have the issue after all that. I've tried using every version of the Nvidia drivers that I could find online. None of them fix this, even the very brand new ones.

I've played with my settings as well. I've run CoH with everything maxed out and with everything turned as far down as possible. It didn't help.

    here are my logs.

  23. Ah, completed a Drowning in Blood tonight and with those three badges, I'm at 1301 now!

Now I just need to start getting some Master badges.
  24. Oops, yeah. I should have said Alignment mission.

I've petitioned it multiple times on different days. I'm just going to bug it and drop it.
  25. I can NOT get this darn mission to complete at all.

    All the Malta are defeated
    I've found Flamespout.
    I've found some Holographic projector.

My nav window tells me to talk to Flamespout. I do, but there's no dialogue options to reply to him, which is what I think the error is.

I can't interact with the Projector.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing here and our much vaunted "premium in-game support" isn't replying.
