Quote:Not true. My SG uses AE as an alternative to old content that has become repetitive after almost 6 years.Might as well. No one that wants to legitimately level at a reasonable pace uses the MA anyhow. It's either people that really don't care how fast or even if they level or people trying to use the latest exploit to level faster.
Killing xp in AE would kill AE. This change already does enough harm. Removing xp entirely would be the death knell. I don't know anyone who would use it again.
Tickets alone is not enough. In story (non-farm) arcs tickets really aren't that great. They certainly aren't as good as running boring radio missions. The 1500 map limit is a joke. I haven't found a single non-farm arc that even comes close. My entire 5 mission arc solo'd runs around 500 tickets if you defeat all on every map.
If xp were removed tickets would have to be increased (while leaving the map limit in place) otherwise there is no reasonable reward for the risk. -
Now that I know more than allies are affected I realize my arc is getting the xp hammer because it's more than a radio-type "defeat the boss".
M1: 3 battles, glowy
M2: 3 battles, defeat boss
M3: 3 battles, defeat the boss
M4: defeat 3 bosses, hostage/ally
M5: 10 battles, destructible object, defeat the boss]
Removing all the -xp items is not an option. I wouldn't have a story left.
Epic Fail. -
Quote:I'll play an arc strictly for the story. I won't do it often if the rewards are drastically different than the rest of the game.probably.
why play an arc that is not going to give badges, decent xp, or good drops?
who here HONESTLY thinks otherwise?
I wouldn't play a randomly picked from a list arc if I knew the rewards were nerfed (and the notes that say "ally" make it apparent ahead of time now). I would only take a huge reward hit for my favorite authors or arcs that the review sounded interesting.
This change will influence the way I choose arcs to play. I'll be less likely to take a chance on an unknown author that uses allies.
Most writers do care if no one plays their stories, just as moviemakers care about attendance, book authors care about readership, and musicians care about fans. It's all the same thing. -
You guys are onto something.
To me a hero is someone who cares more for others' needs than his own. It isn't enough to simply care about others, but to help them first, even when it is inconvenient to do so.
A hero also doesn't ever take advantage of others. Whether it is in trades or anywhere else a hero gives fair value. If there is a misunderstanding he explains it instead of taking advantage of it.
A hero shows respect for others. He doesn't insult them. He doesn't talk down to them. He encourages new "noob" players and doesn't denigrate them. He helps them learn.
A hero also supports the community in all these things. He's the kind of person you want to see at community events and gatherings because he brings more value than his toon by being the kind of person he is.
I can think of several heroes on this server. Gel, Sarah, American Valor, Night's Dawn, Devastator, Outlaw, PW to name a few. These are the kinds of players I want to be around so that their good rubs off on me and I learn how to be a better person both in game and out of it. -
My mother plays. She is 63. That's a story.... Teaching a woman who has never learned how to type, never used a computer, and who has arthritis in her hands to play has been a challenge, but one I'm grateful for.
About 3 months ago she asked to play. She said she wanted to be a greater part of my brother's and my lives and understand what it was that we talked about so much. Now she plays almost every day and is completely addicted to this game. My husband is working on a computer so she will have her own and we three can all team up at the same time.
She's learned to use her powers, is working on learning to move better (currently we use autofollow), and with guidance can get missions from contacts. She only teams with me. -
Quote:I knew I could count on you to test this. I was reading this thread and waiting for you to respond. This is friggin' obnoxious.
Quick test with a level 40 arc.
Minion inf in mission with no allies: 2362
Minion inf in mission with 1 ally who I have not even rescued yet: 824
WTF! How is that even REMOTELY reasonable?
For storytelling, non-farm, arcs this change sucks. I tried to find another word that sums up how I feel but that's the only one that encompasses my opinion.
I play a fair amount of AE. I enjoy having sidekicks or rescuing a hostage who then fights back. Some penalty I could see, but jumping jehosophat that's extreme. And it's going to have an appreciable impact on how MA arcs are chosen and played, and far too often dropped and neg rated for simply having an ally.
I have one arc affected. In mission four of The All-Seeing Eye you rescue a Malta Gunslinger who in turn helps fight Nemesis. I don't think he provides so much assistance as to be worth cutting the xp rewards in (roughly) half. He's not THAT good. I'm not changing it because his motivations for helping you contribute to the overall storyline.
I hate seeing story arcs like Teen Phalanx and Portal Bandits suffer for the actions of farmers. -

Quote:Two of my friends who play Aion have had this happen in the last two weeks. I wouldn't touch Aion with a 10' pole right now.How would you feel if you found out this bug gave someone else access to your account and when you complained you get told by Customer Support that they are banning your account because they assumed you used an RMT site rather than admit there is something wrong on their end.

Founders Falls
Paragon City
As Liberty Heroes began showing up in Founders Falls for the weekly Sisterhood Sunday Event, there was a call in Broadcast for Green Eyed Lady. Then on the scene was a very handsome cowboy stating that he was GEL's "Birthday Gram" and he proceeded to sing "Happy Birthday Pink Obsession, you Hero of the City" to GEL's alt while removing his costume.
After the birthday wishes and laughing tapered off we got our teams formed and ready to run Dr. Kahn's Task Force.
Team Awesome - 1st Place with a time of 56 minutes 12 seconds
Night's Dawn on Impervium Fist
Lamorak on Lamorak
Pandala Anderson (Tinkerbel) on Eyil
Runiko on Runiko
Paul Metcalfe on Paul Metcalfe
DocMidnight on Nether-Raven
Death Sting on Peace Mack
Team Valor - 2nd Place with a time of 58 minutes 28 seconds
American Valor on American Champ (the Birthday Gram)
Steele Magnolia on Operation Arclight
Ion Storm on San Te
Yeti Gone Bad on Louis V. Abducted
Cryfire on Speedburst
Umbrua Bug
The Nemis Unit
Team Green - 3rd Place with a time of 1 hour 2 minutes 1 second
Green Eyed Lady on Grace Green (Birthday Girl)
Outlaw Woman on Hotlaw
Shirai Ryu on Shirai Ryu
Skein on Skein
Quantum Particle on Quantum Particle
Demaon Dawn on Fille Menteuse
Naa on De'mon
Cosmo DNA on Eternally Charmed
After the completion of the Task Force Race, teams formed and waited in Founders Falls for the appearance of Kronos. While the teams waited
Green Eyed Lady with the help of Impervium Fist completed her mission in order to spawn the Kronos Titan. The mighty Kronos did not last very long when faced with the Heroes of Liberty.
Thank you to everyone that joined us for The Sisterhood Sunday Event. Due to next Sunday being Easter Sunday there will not be a SH Sunday Event, but keep a look out for the announcement for The Sisterhood Sunday Event on April 11.
Have a wonderful Easter!
*drools* I want that vid card, of course. -
Quote:Maybe... but that "end of game gear grind" is what chilled me on LOTRO. Once you've done the storyline, all it is is gear grinding for repeating the same raids over and over. I love that game, but COH's replayability, multitude of powerset combos, costumes, awesome dev team, and accessible forums are what keeps me coming back for more. Nearly 6 years now and nowhere near the end of my interest.Being made by Blizzard would help, but the main things it would need are:
1) Elves
2) Orcs, Dwarves, and other non-Elf races
3) replace all the urban stuff with medieval castles and forests and such
5) remove all the origins except Magic and Natural
6) make all the enemies fantasy monsters
7) add in 10,000 hours or so worth of endgame gear grind
Because apparently "mainstream" MMO players really want to use orcs and elves to kill the same stupid dragon or lich or whatever over and over for months at a time so they can get all the uber-gear they need to kill the next dragon or lich.
What would make it better?
New 1-20 content for alts.
New 35-50 content for end game.
More costumes (always more costumes)
Weather
A greater feel of being integral to the ongoing storyline. My tank is uber, I want to feel more like Statesman and less like Statespuppy.
A summertime event
More Rikti invasions - and more on that storyline
Ability to log new characters without returning to the login screen
Individual housing
A better base editor
More IO sets
You get the idea. More of what COH does best. -
Another fantastic event, Gel. Thank you. I can't wait to see what's next. Sundays are the best day of the week now.
PS: Was on Operation Arc Light -
*wolf whistles*
Yeah Valor! -
Sounds like fun! Count me in.

I was driving late at night on a long trip, about 350 miles, and was following behind a big semitruck. Late at night those are what is mostly on the road. Following along behind one is a great way to set pace.
I knew it was time to stop and get a hotel for the night when I reached for the "f" key on my steering wheel.
Really. -
Quote:Yes it is. Let's no go there. Is it just me, or is this the type of response that gets threads locked?
This thread is to elicit opinions, not case personal aspersions. I gave mine, many others have given theirs, we're not all going to agree. It's fascinating reading. -
First, let me explain where I am coming from. I am a Christian. As such, evil is a matter of intent. It involves free will, choice.
To kill deliberately a million people, regardless of your ultimate intent, is an act of evil. Despite any good intentions you are lending yourself to evil in this action. Even if your goal is to save the world and you consider yourself to be the savior of mankind, you've comitted an act of evil. Despite the purity of your intentions you have defiled yourself and committed murder.
To dig a hole with the intent of entrapping someone and killing them is evil. To dig that hole with the intent of creating the foundation of a house, but someone falls in it and dies, is an unfortunate accident. There was no intent to kill or even harm in the consequences involved. At most, it is neglect.
To lie is to lie, to steal is to steal, to murder is to muder. Notice I did not say kill, killing is justified in self defense and war if you understand the original language of the bible which had different words for 'murder' and 'kill' despite the English translation. (This is why study is so important for Christians, to understand what underlies a translation. I'm a translator. No significant translation is ever flawless, languages have nuance, meaning, and complexity relative to one another. But that's a whole different issue. Send me an email if you're interested. I won't digress here.)
All this moral relativism of today is a sham. It disguises personal choice in ambiguity, and cloaks it in dissembling justification.
As far as the game goes, I think it is important to note that there are four different moralities: Hero (white), Resistance (grey), Vigilante (dark grey), and Villain (black). It is not simply a matter of black and white. Deliberately choosing evil stains you from white progressively to black, from hero progressively to villain. And the reverse applies; that is redemption. -
Quote:American Valor is a hero's hero! (5th Anniversary Screenshot - in the middle halfway up the stairs)I told you that you were a hero, Valor!
It was a Numina's TF, the four of us were around the 38th level as you could not exemplar into TFs back then. We were also the only heroes left on what was once a full team. Those remaining were Honey Buff, Green Eyed Lady, American Valor and Outlaw Woman. We eventually logged off due to time issues on a weeknight and we all vowed to meet the very next night to finish the TF. We all did just that. I knew, with a name like American Valor, you would not let us down.
Just take a peek below at the day I met you....
Green Eyed Lady and Outlaw Woman lay defeated on the nearby tracks as American Valor punishes Jurrasik.
American Valor, The Sisterhood's Shining Knight!
Here's another with an old friend we haven't seen in some time (Halo Jones AKA @Roughtrade).
Here's one from way back in the day when I first moved to Liberty.
