An "I'm back" and an "I'm leaving" thread all in one. Thought I'd come back and have a look after a 3 month break. Nothing but AE farmers, so I'm off again
Does anyone do "proper" missions any more? Is anyone just here to play the game instead of brag about how awesome their toon is? Does anyone play any other set combination other than Fire / Kins?
I'm probably desperately trying to relive the heydays of I7 and I8, and will probably be flamed to high hell for a number of different reasons, but there you go!
(Oh and I do like the "Welcome" from the Americans. We didn't join you. You joined us :P) -

Ghost Falcon, you need a forum avatar

I'm a Producer, not an artist.
My current level of artistic talent involves MS Paint and stick figures.

Psygon, me thinks we have another cutification required
Either that or given the wealth of artistic talent we have over here, maybe someone would do a commission for you? Give the winner a nice orange title for their account, like "Ghost Falcon PR Officer" or something and a month of free game time?
Thoughts? (sorry to hijack the thread btw *ahem*)

That is the plan. Yes.

I'm glad to hear that it will be on Mac, espcially as my PCs keep blowing up on me.

Well he needs something to do doesn't he. Doubt he's seen many people since i9. Doubt any one buys lvl 45+ SOs anymore

So I understand.. but given the lack of boxed releases since CoV (except GvE) isn't having pretty much one after the other a little odd? I'd have thought given the timing of GR and it's hugeness in terms of development milestones, they'd have shelved the i14 one - although I realise one could argue it's almost as huge from the milestone PoV.
Perhaps it's a concerted effort on the part of the marketing department to raise CoXs profile in the shops - more "bums on seats" as it were? -
On topic.. just one question. Is Going Rogue going to be a boxed release, and if it is, is i14 still going to have a boxed release as well?
No boxed releases for years, then two come together -

Q: When will City of Heroes Going Rogue launch?
A: When itÂ’s ready. We are not announcing the date at this time.

Willing to bet its ready to same time as CO or DCU after the failure that was i14 :P
[/ QUOTE ]
I14 was not a failure

Thats what you think, i would guess this will come out the same time as DC as champions will be out in july from what i was reading so unless they want to rush this and mess it up i bet it will be winter as i would think DC would be more of a problem than champions as champions is to much like cox where as DC from what i have seen looks like its going to be very good.
On the whole this looks like it could be good and is something i have been asking for a paid expansion lets just hope its not rushed and brings back some wow factor to cox.

Champions is NOTHING like CoH, except that it's based in a superhero universe and that both games were originally developed by Cryptic. That's where the similarities stay. -

...also merging red/blue would probably be good. I can't stand the blue colours, so I stick to the red version, but that means any "internal" links sends me packing to blue side and a re-log or some fancy(?) editing of the URL.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd veto that as it's removing choice/options. Oddly enough I prefer the blue/CoH colour scheme on the EU forums, but prefer the red/CoV colour scheme on the US forums.

Most of the newer board software has skinning options. Would've thought it'd be simpler to employ that than having seperate domain name space for the different "sides". -

1) It's wrong because they created the MA in the first place which allows powerlevelling, farming and grinding at a pace never seen before (what is street sweeping if on grinding, farming or even power levelling when on a double XP weekend)? It also allows them to get out of creating new mission content, as we can do it just fine ourselves now
or
2) It's wrong because they give us a tool, knowing the problems that would arise with it, then wait an entire month before announcing vague threats over 'abusers' of the system.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I'd say "both". MA is a superb tool, but given an increasingly large section of the games population wants everything "now" rather than enjoy the journey in getting it, anyone that thought it'd be used for much other than farming in an environment like that clearly lives in cloud cuckoo land. -

Oooh a Q&A session.
Telling people how to play their game, is it fun?
[/ QUOTE ]
This response really does get right up my nose.
Firstly he's not TELLING people how to play, he's asking WHY they play in a particular way.
Secondly you can justify farming all you like, but the bare bones of the fact remains that it is not the way the devs intended the game to be played. Like it, or lump it, you can't avoid it. -
I'm in with the "I love it" camp I'm afraid.
And for all you lovely people who say "they can't do this". Actually, it's their game, and they can do what they hell they like.
I'm glad to see Posi finally growing a set and coming down on what has been the blight of this game for far too long. Sure there'll be a fair few farmers who quit because of it, and good riddance. I'd imagine that there'll also be people who are prepared to play the game how it was intended to be played, absolutely delighted and coming right on back. Me being one of them. -
Apologies for the pedantic nature of this, but when I read the title of this post I thought it'd be quite good as the slogan for an Anti War Pressure Group....
-
The unfortunate fact of the matter is that there is no single game mechanic you can change to stop farming, because it's the mentality of the players that cause it.
Too many people are of the impatient "I want everything now" mindset, and will farm and shortcut their way to everything no matter what changes are made to the game.
It's the same with every MMO out there and largely why they've lost their appeal for me. -
In the style of Sid from the Vicar of Dibley...

personally i don't care about the story's that TF or mission arc's give, just get me a level higher and i'm happy.

If this is the position of the majority of the playerbase, we might as well pack up and leave. -
[ QUOTE ]
Same with this. You can't patch enough to make them stop. They ALWAYS find new holes to exploit
[/ QUOTE ]
^^ Very much this. There has always been a "want it now" section of the playerbase. It just seems (to me at least) that this group is now the majority rather than the minority. The last couple of weeks has not only made me think about whether or not I want to continue playing City of Heroes, but MMO's in general. Doesn't matter how good the mechanics of the game are, it's the community that makes or breaks it, and in every MMO I've played recently it's the same old story. Full of impatient, l33t kids, or holier than thou self obsessed idiots. Finding good humoured, laid back people to play with is becoming increasingly difficult.
I've rediscovered an old hobby of mine in radio control cars. Buying second hand Tamiya kits from the 80s on ebay and restoring them. It's incredibly satisfying, and more importantly the online community is a completely different kettle of fish to every gaming forum I've ever been on. -
There have been "I'm leaving threads" on here for as long as I can remember, not sure why all the bad feeling all of a sudden.
All the best FFM, hope you find something suitable that will fill the spandex-clad void -
QR..
A mini subs break between me asking for Arak Atak to be cutified and me resubbing again yesterday meant I was unable to say thank you for his cutification.
So, thank you! Superb stuff -

It's a tragedy that people only want to use Mission Architect for farming. If you don't build a mission with large open areas and lots of enemies, no one seems to care about it.
You need only have the IQ of a two-year old to put together a 5-star rated mission since it involves an outdoor area and lots of Freakshow/Rikti/Insert FOTM here.
It's really... really... REALLY sad.
That's how it's really been a waste. The bad ones win and the good ones fade into obscurity. I saw a 5-star mission which had only "Farming mish" and "Kill stuff" as the name and mission brief. The thing was probably cobbled together in under 5 minutes and had over 20 people giving it 5-stars because they could level quickly.
If people only care about levelling up, earning badges and getting influence then I concede that Mission Architect seems to be doing a wonderful job. For those small number of us who actually care to play a mission arc with some MEANING to it, it's absolutely tragic.
Mission Architect works fine. The players sadly don't. City of Heroes? Hah! More like City of Farmers...
[/ QUOTE ]
^^ Completely This. And it's been like that for a little while, MA just seems to exacerbate the problem.
I wonder if it's worth creating a channel for those of us who really DON'T want to farm. You get much above level 40 these days and it's the same problem. Can't join a team 'cos it's full or farming, can't make one because people want farm teams. -
Just found this . Not THAT funny, but highlights rather well what most of the playerbase are probably going to use MA for.
Seems a bit odd that NC have spent the last couple of issues doing all they can do limit farming, then they devote one issue which appears to make it ridiculously easy. -

These two things are mutually exclusive. You cannot create a truth by including them in the same sentance.

Well, if a mission is designed to be used to get badges fast, and it gets the badges fast, then doesn't that make it an effective mission?

No, it doesn't.
