Quote:You may have already mentioned this but... is the game launching at all? That looks helpful, but im not getting a checksum error, and that .lock file doesnt exist after i close the client
I'm confused about the presence of the updater.lock file, since I hav never seen it myself, but a quick search revealed that it seems this happens normally through doanloads / updates / file verification... or when launching straight from the Cohupdater.exe file isntead of a shortcut.
File verification didn't return any oddness? -
Can you give t his a try?

I may be back on later tonight (about 8 hours from now) ti check up. -
Yeah - the Shard marathoners last time ran that in about 16 hours, just those 4, and I don't think breaks longer than 15 minutes were taken at any given time.

It's actually because of these guys: http://www.racj.gouv.qc.ca/index.php?id=88&L=1 who control all games of luck and sale of alcohol in the province (and apparently do so only in French).
Plus, there would be a fee based on a percentage of the total value of the prizes to be distributed, which IMHO, is super lame.
Hurrah for government control. -

Quote:That message is probably that issue I alluded to yesterday: the COHUPDATER.EXE being used (or the shortcut pointing to it) is located in the same folder as it is trying to install.Well, whats on my External is just a copy of the important files from my laptop *to minimise the DL time* and it keeps saying i have insufficient permissions/disk space to install.... whats funny is i have 100% admin privilages and ~380GB space...... only a tech god knows wtf is going on *points to Stalemate :P*
If you copy that executable elsewhere, then run it, that message should disappear.
That's actually something I picked up here in the CoH Boards, if you'd like to see the source: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=120140. It may even be referred to if you want to create a quick Training Room copy.
We did resolve the communication trouble when I connected remotely, so at least that's out of the way. We're 90% of the way there.
If it comes down to further remote sessions, then that's what we'll do. Although this weekend's schedule is hectic (LCD TV to get repaired/returned, family outing Saturday, buch of acivities Sunday) the evenings should be fairly open so that would coincide with NZ time almost perfectly.
I'll check back here during the day t o see if there are any updates. -
Timing is bad for me this time.
And this has almost nothing to do with the fact that I don't want to increase a fellow badgehunter's tally even higher than my own.
I kid.
I actually enjoy helping others get badges, being an enabler in their addiction.
I have to go pick up my son at around that time so can't commit. -
Well, either really.
If these issues are preventing the game from updating / launching, then maybe using a copy of CoHUpdater and then downloading/installing everything again into another folder entirely could fix it.
If it's just something weird you noticed, but the game still updates/launches, then ignore it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
As for the updater itself... I don't know what's best, honestly. the one we renamed *.original last night was from 2007 (and straight from the CoH site if I recall correctly) while the one I transferred over, *.latest, was from 2009 since it's actually the one workin on my game PC.
I do remember the one we tried last night that started installing was the 2007 one. -
Quote:6 Web How-To's That Are Apparently For SupervillainsSomewhere on one of these lists sites is one that's something like "things you need to be a Supervillain". On that list is the vid of a kid that actually built a wrist mounted Flamethrower.
There you go.
I saw the vids for this on YouTube before the article was published, and I really *should* have shut it off before my 16 yo son came into the office, looking over my shoulder.
Guess what he wants for Christmas now? -
I'd be crying, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm all dried up already.

Is now a bad time to casually mention the hazings involving Baconnaise, strategically wedged Oreos and a Cimarron's cage?

Tip - If you can deal with redownloading everything again:
Copy the CoHUpdater.exe somewhere other than the installation folder, and run it again. Pick another installation folder, or rename the old one to keep the same location.
If you move the CoH folder afterwards, jut create a shortcut to CoHUpdater inside that folder after it's all done patching.
This way the "solo" updater forces a fresh installation, and since it's not located in said installation folder it won't give that error we kept seeing about disk space or insufficient rights.
For the curious: Remote control from Canada to New Zealand is laggy.
PS - But that doesn't mean we can't do it again tonight should you require further troubleshooting. Like I said, feel free to contact me anytime. -
