This is great.
The Mid's export feature alone is fried in win and dipped in awesomesauce.
Thanks Titan Network! -
THURSDAY!
THURSDAY!
THURSDAY!
Think you got what it takes?
Were you told your AT could not PVP its way out of a paper bag?
Need an outlet for all the "yo mamma" jokes you've filed and indexed for future reference?
Then you NEED to get your spandex clad butt over to the Pocket D Arena this and every THURSDAY for some good ol' fashioned "hands-on" action!
THURSDAY!
THURSDAY!
THURSDAY!
...
I think that last cup of coffee I took was overkill. -

Thanks MrCaptainMan and Wrong_Number for jogging my memory.

There are already some global resources for AE architects to benefit from, such as http://cohmissionreview.com/, and a global channel whose-name-I-forget-right-now-but-have-on-a-tab-so-I'll-update-it-here-later. (MA?)
If we're doing this only for Protector, then you may want to check out Protector Fiction to see if your project might not benefit from an already established base. -
Sure, that could be done.
We did hold it in Pocket D so every "side" could have access to it - thinking it was the best way to reach everyone. But perhaps holding it in a specific zone would be an idea. -
Quote:...Maybe promotion needs to happen across all US servers to be successful. I mean, how many people, particularly at this point, start on Protector? The whole point is to help new players everywhere, right?
Yeah, I think your perspective is in line with WRider's here re: new players on Protector.
The only problem with the suggestion is: this would then be a Mentor Project event, not a Protector New Player Council event. The intent was to promote Protector initially. Heck, we even had a couple of our friends who usually play on Justice were also assisting yesterday (which was great, thx guys).
I think it's a great idea for a MP activity, despite the coordination and logistics issues, and I say "Go for it and propose it on the MP site".
On the other hand, if you were suggesting promoting a Protector event on other servers, then I've misinterpreted... -
Quote:Personally, having led server events of all sorts since 2005, I'd rather not piggyback an official event for things I'm organizing. I know I didn't like it when it happened to me when the event promoted was almost identical to my own, so I refrain from that....My thinking is that for the next one you do, make sure to have people in attendance to promote your event at any Dev event, Costume Contest, etc. Having someone announce your event at the Dev Costume Contest in Pocket D might have gotten a few more to show up.
Doesn't mean it's a bad idea. I'm just not comfortable doing it.
Quote:Trying to reach new/recent players is a challenge. Maybe working with some new player-friendly SG's might help. The leaders can announce your event to their members, and then they can assist other new players. Might get a few new players into SG's that will be there to help them learn the game. That could be a win-win for all involved.
More on this, Soon™ -
You know, that comment is probably truer than we care to believe.
When Going Rogue came along, Protector was steadily in the yellow range for activity, but... almost everyone I checked out had quite a few months' worth of vet badges on them.
We may just be catering to a clientèle that is much smaller than before. -
All right, allow me to get the ball rolling on this post mortem (great term Arch btw).
I think Kyo hit on something here, re: the weeknight chosen.
I'd even add that hosting it on the evening right after the (official and player-led) Halloween event(s) was not the best of ideas.
I wanted to have the New Player Night after all this activity to avoid interference, and before the Rikti Invasion came around. IIRC, Monday nights had been used in the past for the early New Player Nights, and we never had this issue, but this year given the circumstances it appears to have been less than ideal.
I can't find fault for the promotional legwork - in fact, I think this was the most promoted New Player Council activity ever, outside of the Mentor Project.
This leaves pretty much only the following in my mind as reasons why things didn't work out so well:
- Post Halloween drop in server activity (Protector has been green now for the last few days, instead of yellow like when GR hit). - Easy fix: better scheduling.
- New players have not been reached, despite our efforts. - Find new / different / better methods?
- Event itself was uninteresting to new players. - Find new / different / better events. Increase prize package?
I'll add, again, that perhaps a change in management might be in order, if I'm no longer able to organize these successfully. The goal is to retain new players on our server, and if someone else can do a better job I'll step down and give that person 100% support. I'm not in this for popularity.
To recap yesterday night's activity:
No events planned were held, for lack of participation. 2 attendants showed up (details below)
- 10M+20M won by @TwilightPhoenix for impromptu Hide and Seek games to introduce the night's activities.
- 50M + Wing Recipe given to Agent Everyman (unsure of global - saw announcement on Protector Vigilance chan)
- 50M + Boot recipe to @officer dark (sp? - was in Pocket D by chance)
- 100M to @SapphireShot since she was the only other player with less than 12 months in Pocket D. (agreed upon by the other 3 volunteers who were in Pocket D at 9PM when we called it quits)
This leaves 500M inf available for the next New Player Council event, for a total of 950M. (the other 30M was given out by Cassiopea and I for the Hide and Seek) -
Please don't overextend yourself Phillygirl - if you have other things to do tonight that will be quite fine. We already have enough folks to cover the events, and your generosity is already much appreciated.
I went around promoting the event in the major zones yesterday evening finally, instead of Saturday morning, since my weekend was a flurry of activity.

Quote:We had a great run last night, dropped the Stormer on the first run. If you do this again, try this guide, I found it very useful.

Heck, we didn't respect all that much the actual strategy except as a general guideline. The Backup Radio, Envenomed Dagger, HVAS and Shivans were enough to carry us over.
...I never got a chance to use a second wave of those pets, and I think I used 3 daggers overall. -
Congrats everyone!
Great job Carnada, despite the DC. -

Salut Noir!
Follow my sig to check out the Paragon Punishers / Phantoms of War, and I'll owe you a poutine. -
Quote:Level range is 10-50 apparently, although I'd be hard pressed to see a character under 32 provide what's required to pull this off without causing more effort to be required from the other participants. What levels are you looking for? My highest is a 41 WP/SS tank. I have a lower level Controller...I think 10 or 11. So I may be no help there.
Here is more info, from Paragon Wiki: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Cathedral_of_Pain_Trial
Carnada is the organizer / coordinator, and is probably the best informed as to whether there are spots available tonight. -
Tonight still?
I'll be on about 45-60 min. prior for those who need to get some Shivans. I withheld doing so since we had scheduled a run prior to Carnada's COP. I already scored the Backup Radio temp power and will get Envenomed Daggers and a fresh HVAS tonight when I log on.
If we can get the basics down prior that will save a lot of time for everyone.
TIP: as in the above link provided by Carnada, it's fairly certain that if the AV (whichever) can't be defeated on the 2nd pass that we'll never do so.
Also, are we going to attempt using this technique, as referred to in the aforementioned guide?
In any case, this seems the minimum we could coordinate once inside and facing the cubes / AV:
Quote:Team Leaders: Each of the team leaders will divide their team into 2 groups of 4 players at this time. These will be used if your team finishes clearing the mob around its assigned cube early. One group will head clockwise to help out one team; the other group will head counter-clockwise to help out the other. Once your team knows their assignment, the team leader will let the trial leader know they are ready. -
How about setting up specific dates/times?
That way I can add it to the calendar, maybe even the Protector Vigilance channel's MOTD, and get everyone coordinated. -
Update to keep information relevant:
Protector Vigilance: Server events, PUGs, badges, monsters, TFs and chat. Linked to the Protector Activity Calendar. Moderated according to CoH Rules of Conduct. -
Quote:If you'll backtrack into this thread, you'll see @Landrig is our coordinator for European servers and there is also a "N P C" channel on these, AFAIK.Considered seeking players on the European servers as mentors?
Feel free to use the same application form (and external website, if you so choose to register there too), and welcome aboard! -
Tell you what: Do it when you can, and I'll also do the broadcast thing on Sat. morning.
