  1. Finally made it in last night.

    Badge 1200: Backup Confederate.

Had a great team running the Mortimer Kal SF twice (4 first run, 8 on second) on Protector.
  2. Welcome back!

I'm sure you'll get lots of people already helping you out, but if you need a fallback option consider joining the N P C channel. 150 mentors and counting

I also recommend joining Protector Vigilance, if you weren't already in it before you went on hiatus. Calendar and Twitter feed also ofered.

    Links in my sig.

    So, yes, but...

...preferably not as that might affect the scoring?

    Am I getting that correctly?
  4. Can we use / adapt stories we've already posted for other purposes?
  5. 29 again?

    Happy Birthday!

    Mentor Project

With the announcement of the new Player Help System in City of Heroes, I'm left pondering how this will affect our operations.

I'll be honest: I find it hard to see this a as a tool we can use when the reality is, it is a system bypasses our group entirely.

We haven't been in operation that long. But if our presence has managed to influence in any way the implementation of the PHS I see it as a bittersweet moment.

We've demonstrated that such a system had a place in CoH, with our 150 registered mentors, our neophytes who benefited from the project, and other volunteers.

    That's a good thing.

But on the other hand, with a system built directly into CoH now, it's hard to see a future for the Mentor Project.

    What do you guys think?
  7. It was quite a touching moment last night and I'm glad I took a few minutes to pop in.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of this and share in the moment with you.

If there is anything I can do personally, please let me know.
  8. I would have loved to help out, if my personal schedule allowed for it.

These days - it's just too hectic.

But if you wait until next weekend, I'm pretty sure I can also get my wife to participate.

I could bring a blaster or tanker, while wifey has a plethora of trollers, defenders, and some blasters.

Well folks, what are your thoughts on the new "Helper" system, and how do you see it affacting our operations?

    More info here: http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/new...and_you_1.html

I'll refrain from posting my own thoughts for now, and think about it some more.
  10. Going to try hard to make it tomorrow night.
  11. LOL!

At work, I got my hands on an app (owexec) that allowed me to reorganize my coworkers' desktop icons in the shape of a fish.
  12. I counted the wrong way... dang.

    Oh well, have fun guys.
  13. So that would be 10:30pm Eastern.

I'll try to be there tonight, as my main needs it.

Also, feel free to add this to the calendar Zaloopa.
  14. PVP still exists on Protector. It's just more laid back and friendly now.

Whenever I had the opportunity, I've had great fun with Shining Magic and crew on their weekly PVP night (Thursdays).

My son, whenever he could sneak in, really got into it as well.

They've done great things towards the promotion of PVP on Protector.

Make it a Master run and I'm there.

The drama's part of Protector too. It's just a part I choose to ignore.

What I find particularly odd is how you try to scrounge up enough people to run with you for whatever activity you're considering, and it's harder to complete than the actual activity.

Of course, as soon as you manage to get everyone you need for said activity, within 30 minutes 2 other teams are announced for this exact same thing.
  17. Witchfrost: Apologies are in order. I had a line in my post that specifically mentioned that I welcomed opinions different then my own, while retaining the prerogative to completely disagree with them. I must have deleted it when I edited it to be less hostile. As for you not being able to see that a MMO involves human interaction, and therefore requires the usual human decency when it comes to social behavior, I can't help you there.

Ice_9: I hate it when we take the time to carefully construct written responses, and miserably fail to get our point across. My whole point was also "Gee, I don't see what the fuss is about" when this started. It's my personal opinion that despite it all, we do manage to go on - even when some things remain broken. That's why I couldn't understand why there was opposition to this thread. It was supposed to be realistic and positive.

Rasta: You're entirely right. But as I said: this was never intended to become a flamewar. It was intended to discuss how we, as Protectorites, see our server. It failed at that.

Grey: I should follow your lead here.

Protector: My sincere apologies for fueling the fire. That was not my intention at all when I started this, but fuel it I did with my last post. I'm tired, and I'm cranky, and for these last 7 years I've been doing my utmost to remain civil with others as much as I could. But here I just lost it.

Those of you who have dealt with me in the past have no idea how I keep fighting with my own inner demons. But I do try to be honest and transparent in my dealings with others, and I try to remain civil. I'm not a "nice guy" at heart, despite appearances to the contrary.

I wish I could say it won't happen again, but I know that some behaviors and manners (or lack thereof) will always cause outrage with me.

I'll see you around, or not.

And while you may say "well why don't you contribute" I say, because i don't care. Your morals are not my morals and vice versa. Just like maybe your problems with teaming is not my problem. I have people to team with and its not something i'm worried about.

So again, could we let this thread die please.

    I have an opinion.

I don't have problems with the way Protector is and acts as a community of players. If I did, I'd play on any number of other servers where I've been invited. I like it here, for various reasons.

If someone pointed you to this and you thought I was complaining, keep walking. They were wrong. Some people are ignorant selfish turds. Others are altruistic generous folks. That's true all over.

Kudos on having regular people to team with, but I fail to see how your opinion is higher in value than someone else's only because you have that.

Then, after total victory, they move on fondly gazing at their new shiney.

And here we go: this is a summary of my opinion.

There has been complaining in this thread, yes. There has also been exchanges of opinions.

Like I said before (and proof that some are not reading the posts in full):

OF COURSE some issues will never be resolved. Things have gone off the cliff in some cases.

Despite it all, some will go an extra mile to be a better person. Some will refuse to do so, by pride, self-preserving avoidance, or outright bitterness. It happens. So what. We're human.

    We go on.

    --------------------------------------------

And seriously, those of you who are in here to disparage the feelings and opinions of others please accept my heartfelt

    WTH?!

You're using a rare visit to the forums to belittle others?

    What?

This was intended as an exchange of ideas and opinions about Protector.

Some chose to express their feelings about specific issues. Perhaps that was a little edgy. A little too personal.

Maybe nothing changed by voicing these concerns. Again, it happens.

But who the hell gave you the impression that you held final say in what is important for others? Who said you were allowed to state how you felt (like, say, about a mis-perception of what the intent of this thread was) while others should keep silent?

The things you don't care about could have dire importance for someone else. Extend to others the same basic courtesy you expect, for [censored]'s sake, or ignore it if you can't be grown up enough to do it.

    See?

This is an exchange of opinions and ideas too, just there.

I personally think it's opened up more venues of discussion that had previously been closed off.

Why close it now that it's actually veered into a more positive path?
  20. It's always a thrill to see more activities occurring on Protector.

To facilitate the planning for these, Santa Laws has been added to the Protector Calendar's list of editors.

Follow the link in my signature if you're not familiar with how to access it, and consider following it on Twitter.
  21. New editor: Santa Laws (Weekly Kheldian TF)!
  22. Dang... I not only missed this, I could have added it to the calendar too.

Hyper, can you PM me to remind me to do so whenever the regular visit or any other such events happen?
