  1. So, I just got my first MA/ hero up to level 8, and I've already got a great single-target attack chain shaping up. Thunder Kick, the gut-punching Storm Kick, the new Cobra Strike, and Crane Kick all deal excellent damage, and three of the four have some sort of mitigation involved. When I toss in the AoE damage of Burn and Blazing Aura, I figure I'll have a pretty good scrapper shaping up.

But there's a problem. And what is that problem, class? That's right. He makes blasters look downright tough. So it struck me that to play MA/Fire, you need to play like a blaster. Or, rather, you need to play like a Scrapper's Scrapper.

You need to kill everything--absolutely everything--before it can penetrate your collective defenses.

Not an easy task, to be sure, but you have a number of tools to do it with. On the offensive side, you've got phenomenal single-target attacks and formidable stunning capabilities with Thunder Kick, Boxing, Cobra Strike, and Eagle's Claw. Your Dragon's Tail can knock crowds of enemies on their butts as the Burn patch eats them alive. On the defensive side, things get a little tougher. You can make it to about 50% S/L resistance with Fire Shield and Tough; Weave, Combat Jumping, and IO bonuses could realistically get you to about 11% of each positional defense; Fire resistance is, of course, capped, and Plasma Shield puts you at roughly 35% En/Neg resistance. Your true godsend, however, is Healing Flames. You need it up as much as you can get, and you need it to heal for lots of hitpoints.

So you build for recharge. Lots of recharge.

Not only can you get Healing Flames to about 15 seconds for a 50% heal, you can get all your attacks chaining so quickly that enemies barely have time to conceptualize the abstraction that is "Foot" before it's knocked their lights out. Beautiful. You're still terribly squishy, but all that recharge lets you kill at the rate that you need to. It also gives you a quick Shadow Meld, which, when slotted properly, softcaps you for 15 seconds while you absorb an alpha.

Check out the build, and revel in the MA/Fire: The Scrapper's Scrapper.

  2. I'm just leveling up my first Archery/ and Electric Blast/ Blasters, and even though the first has never interested me much and the second has always seemed underpowered, I'm LOVING both of them. I love knocking a guy on his a** with Power Thrust, then shooting and "arresting" him from point-blank range while he's on the ground. With the Elec/ blaster, I can easily see falling in love with draining entire mobs of their endurance in one or two moves.

    Sheer poetry.
  3. Heh. That's precisely why it's disarming. For the life of me, I can't think why the devs thought it necessary to make IH a click power. It had a hefty endurance cost, and /Regens suffered from an inability to absorb alpha strikes and high burst damage. That seems like enough disadvantages to me, particularly when you compare it to sets like Willpower and Shields, which don't have many holes at all. I dunno. Maybe I'll go roll a BS/WP Scrapper and see how he plays; it might be better than the frustrating time I'm having with him right now.
  4. In order to get some of the higher-priced enhancements cheaply, I've begun running tip missions with my level 41 BS/Regen scrapper, Allotrope. Bottom line? I'm getting my a** handed to me by every upper-tier enemy group. I know that everyone has trouble with Carnies and Malta, but the amount that I've been faceplanting in recent sessions has grown absurd. I'd appreciate any critiques on the build. Fortunately, BS includes Parry, which makes capping Melee and Lethal defense pretty easy. Unfortunately, it has no other mitigating powers, and without DP permanent, I'm not really doing so well.

  5. Well, that's legitimately disappointing news. Why is DP listed as the primary in your build?
  6. @Madamme Mayhem:

First of all, I love what you've done with this build. Excellent defenses, and better recharge bonuses than I was able to come up with.

Three questions, though: first of all, your slotting of Stamina isn't exactly standard. Do you find yourself running out of endurance with just two slots? I know this isn't a particularly toggle-heavy build (and you've got end reductions in lots of attacks) but my pre-I19 self is crying foul.

Second, how's your attack chain? AoE damage between Empty Clips, Bullet Rain, and Hail of Bullets is solid, but I worry about single targets. Is the recharge high enough that you can just cycle Dual Wield/Executioner's Shot? I had Piercing Rounds in the original build to shore up that weakness, but, like all attacks, it hogged a lot of slots better used elsewhere.

Third, how useful is Swap Ammo in the later game? Its effects seemed lackluster--at best--in the early game, and without usable enhancements, I can only imagine it getting worse. Is it used purely for the DPS boost of Incendiary Rounds, or do the Cryo and Bio rounds have some use?
  7. I'm currently leveling a DP/Traps Corruptor, and he's rapidly becoming one of my favorites. Even with FFG and Scorpion Shield, though, I'm anticipating problems down the road in terms of softcapped defense. In addition, this build lacks all the single-target and AoE potential that I know DP is capable of. The problem is that I can't take adequate powers (like Pistols, Empty Clips, Trip Mine, etc.) because I can't pull slots away from essential powers to make them worthwhile. Thus, I ended up with lots of "placeholder" powers that can function on their inherent slot.

I'd love any advice on how to improve this build--S/L/E defense and +Recharge are paramount here, though +Acc and +Recovery are always nice.

  8. Hey, forum-goers!

I just returned from a lengthy hiatus from CoX, and immediately was confronted by my altoholism problem. I rolled an Electric Control/Cold Domination controller, and currently have him at a whopping level 2.

My question is: does anyone have any advice on this build, an Elec/Cold playstyle, slotting, etc.? I've never played any of the Going Rogue sets, so this is entirely new to me. It seems useful for a melee-oriented controller—Arctic Fog, Snow Storm, Sleet, and Heat Loss could all be used in melee, and the chain confusion + melee Gremlins + Conductive Aura seems like it would have good synergy for causing chaos and avoiding damage in melee range. Thoughts?
  9. Now, I would really love to love CoV. I really would. But as the original poster pointed out, I just find it much easier to make alts heroside than villainside. Whereas CoH starts you out in a brightly lit, albeit crime-infested city where you KNOW you'll hit level six in about half an hour, CoV (as it rightly should) places you in the dingiest imaginable hoveltown, forcing you to slog through contacts with immense runs across the clinical depression-inducing Mercy Island. I think that most of CoV's archetypes, power design, and game synergy are, in general, better than CoH's--so I also think that it's a shame that the devs shot themselves in their collective foot when they created zones that I can't play for fifteen minutes without getting depressed. No one wants to pay fifteen dollars a month for gray and brown trash heaps, which seem to be major factors for the first, oh, the entire game. I know you're villains. I just wish you could be aesthetically pleasing villains.

DISCLAIMER: Math is not my strong point. However...assuming 100 Endurance, would 1.75% +Recovery not equal 1.75 End/sec?

No. That assumes that you recover 100.0 endurance per second, which is pretty absurd. No, that 1.75% goes to your relatively low base endurance recovery. Anyone have the active numbers? I'm too lazy to open Mid's.
