Quite a few odd scenarios are being put forth as counter-arguments here.
-
I sort of suspected you might harp on that statement and thought about elaborating - maybe I should have.
I would think 'selfish' in the CoH environment constitutes doing something that, for the most part, hinders (however little) the majority of the players I'm teaming with, but I do it anyway because it benefits me. I can't think of any situation where a Footstomp would benefit only me and not also the majority of the team (please don't bring up some uber rare isolated scenario as a counter argument).
An awareness that a wild KBer is lessening the impact of my Footstomp (thus hindering the team) isn't selfishness. It's just being aware. That KBer, on the other hand... Well, maybe he thinks he's protecting me. -
Quote:In other words, you gotta try to get 3 or so Targets in your Radius as opposed to 10+.Yes. And still, Knockback only knocks enemies directly away from them. It only becomes "radial" if they stand in the middle of a group of enemies and use AoE knockback. It's a matter of positioning rather than being incumbent to the power.
Learn to control your KB, people, sheesh -
Quote:I dunno - when I play my Melee ATs, I roll my eyes when a teammate PB or other KBer blows mobs outside of my AoE and Stat-Fueling Radius. Nothing to do with bruised ego, or even selfishness - I'm just aware they are removing targets from my Footstomp AoE. How can that ever be good?I doubt that. I would bet that most of this complaining comes from bruised ego's and all around selfishness.
But always I say nothing, because I sympathize greatly with them (mainly because I love PBs myself). Once or twice I've suggested some of the KB tricks people espouse, but I got the feeling they thought I was just nicely telling them they suck. -
Quote:Veddy Interestink. Would certainly help salve the ATs who get fueled by nearby foes. Won't much help with the desire to Rain down the AoE damage on tight mobs, but hey, it's a start. What about this...as a way to make knockback ok and even still desirable?
Make the difference between enemy melee and range damage even more substantial.
Taunt Auras...such as Rise to the Challenge and Invincible get their buffs from any enemy targetting them...no matter how far away they are. This would be in addition to the affected targets in melee range. Meaning that...they would work just as they do now...but if someone knocks away some of the targets surrounding them...they still get the buff from the ones they have taunted.
I've often felt that KB would be more desireable if it had more Ooomph - say, something like every KBd foe has a chance for a smashing damage proc to befall them (to represent flying and crashing into walls, etc). Maybe the damage could be a multiple of the magnitude of the KB - the further you fly, the harder you smash... or maybe just a higher chance of proccing if that math is too much.
If KBing ATs were bring more Smash to the table, maybe other ATs would get so irate seeing those mobs fly if they knew they were suffering extra because of it. -
They could change Maneuvers' triangle patterns to polkadot paisley if they'd just do something with Hasten

Some of you seem to be at least admitting that some KB is problemmatic (ie. a PB's Solar Flare) and that individual tweaks here and there are sufficient - that's fine with me.
The truth is I wish KB was a better integrated and beneficial part of the game. Outside of flying, nothing says 'Super' more than knocking foes across a city block. I love the way KB looks - ragdoll physics are awesome. And when I'm solo on my PB I let it fly.
It's just that our game isn't well designed for KB to be of much benefit to teams, esp. powerful teams (which I prefer to be on). Its mitigation is laughable to them - its damage-reducing element (via scattering) is not. My preference would be to find a way for this game to make KB truly desireable, on all teams, at all levels, but since that is less likely, I simply wish for the alternative. -
Quote:My favorite AT is a PB. A PBs inherent make teaming desireable. However, so many of a PBs powers have KB that PBs quite often annoy their teammates. Even when I play my KB correctly as all the KB gurus say it should be played, I've still gotten less than savory comments here and there. You are right - that isn't boring; It's annoying and I wish it wasn't so. That's why -KB options are a good thing. If you're arguing that every single thing in the game should be balanced around rounding things up and aoeing them, you're saying you want to take something that is currently quite diverse and render it completely homogeneous. Consider this. If the devs rebalanced every set so it was perfect for farming, there would be no challenge in doing so. Any imbecile could throw together any build and be just as good as the claws/fire brute that someone lovingly purpled into demigodhood. This would obviously make the game very boring. Why is that a good thing?

It's no argument that gathering mobs into tight groups for AoE carnage is the optimal way to play this game, numbers-wise. Yet some here talk as if anyone with the desire to do just that (play the game in it's most optional way, as designed) is a lazy, slothful sheepherder.

Quote:Just...Wow! The status quo is off limits eh?How exactly is Sailboat the one who's wildly out of line when all he's arguing for is the status quo? Doesn't the burden of proof lie on those who want to completely change how the game has worked for seven and a half years? Knockback is in the game. Deal with it. You have been dealing with it for up to seven and a half years, why is it suddenly too much for you now?
Posts I've read in the past (paraphrased):
"Sideswitching ain't gonna happen. Besides, each side would lose their special flavor if it did."
"Inherent Fitness isn't needed. Those extra slots would make us too powerful."
"PBs are fine as is and don't need any upgrading - I actually like playing the Underdog."
Devs, don't ever bother making Hasten FX customizable. It, and everything else, is fine as is. -
Quote:Bingo! And this goes for most KBers as well as anti-KBers.It is telling to me. It tells me that the majority of players are too lazy to learn to play well with others...
Most KBers are too lazy to learn to do it *correctly*. And most anti-KBers are not going to take the time to show them. At best, they'll tolerate them by saying nothing - the less tolerant will shout in caps, "LESS SCATTERING PLZ!" Do you really think this mindset is going to change for the majority of players on either side of the debate?
I do not - therefore I think other options are in order. -
-
Quote:And that's not telling to you? I have no trouble with a team asking that of my PB because I know what the majority of their experience with KBers is.If you think it'd be optional for players with KB... I have a bridge in Dark Astoria to sell you. PUG teams would insist that you turn it off to be on the team whether you know how to use KB or not.
The Majority of players never learn to control KB and most are never going to. Most players do not read these forums to become informed of 'the Tricks'. Who's going to take the masses aside to teach them how to use KB ingame? The KB-lovers that don't even want the rest of us to even have the choice to turn it off?
In the hands of the right player, KB can be made non-detrimental, but that player is not the most common. Time has shown that. -
Quote:Strange, when I went from Hero to Villain, my Vanguard Medal Accolade became disabled. Since Vanguard is neatral to heroes/villains, there's not a corresponding 'other side' accolade. I'm assuming it will become available again if I go back Hero, but still, this seems like a bug. That happens when you side switch: one set is greyed out when you are on the other side. It can confuse players sometimes, though, because they still see the power in a power tray and they wonder why they can't use it, because there's another version of the same power in their power lists. And really strangely, I don't think that happens for all the accolades.

Totally disagree with Sailboat. I play a PB alot, and I can handle my KB really well. Usually, *handling* it means not using Solar Flare at all when on teams, or making sure you get on the edge of groups so you don't scatter them 360 (and you only score hits on 1/2 to 1/3 the mobs you could have) - woohoo good times!
Look, personally, I wish that KB was an integral and beneficial part of the game, and that most powers in the game caused KB. It's fun and exciting.
But since most powers by DO NOT, and in this game AoE is King, Knockback is far and away a nuisance to most players than a benefit. It just so happens that most players are nice and/or really don't care so they don't gripe about, but my bet is that most, if they could choose, would rather it not be there.
When someone says that Knockback as a limiting factor on a power to keep it from being too powerful; that right there say it's a handicapping tool. And since this game is already rediculously easy, a handicapping tool like this doesn't make the game more challenging - it makes it more annoying.
edit: I really try to play KB 'correctly'; that said, I've NEVER had anyone thank me for helping the team with my KB. I've had many ask (politely or otherwise) to stop doing it, no matter how careful I was with it.
/SIGNED! to the OP's suggestion -
It can't be per Seeker. With mine IOd well for damage, and with Muscular Alpha, each hovers around 200 damage per (more for some foes, less for others). Even so, tightly packed mobs get hit for all 3 for a total damage in the 600ish range - not bad at all for a Crashless Nuke that's up pretty often.
-
Quote:They did reduce the end recovery and mez protection a bit to make up for its increased uptime, but I agree that it's really powerful.I don't know about that.
This power seems ridiculously powerful.
With no IO sets...two slotted +Res shields...and 3 slotted +Rech Light Form. You have capped resistance plus the extra recovery...for 1 min 30 secs...and it will only be down for 60 secs.
It really seems to good to be true.
I don't think it's going to get the Nerf Bat anytime soon. For one, PBs have been the red-headed stepchild of ATs for a longtime. For eons, nearly everything they could do, another AT could do better. So they finally *might* be a bit overpowered in one area now... I say, it's about Damn Time!
Their Dark Cousins, the MFing Warshades, have been able to cap Resists (and damage) for Ages and no one has stuck it to them.
So I can finally tackle +8 Mobs solo like my Scrappers and Brutes can - I'm not overpowered; I've finally joined the family. -
And they ain't so bad anymore either. The new buildup helps with damage. My Human Only recently soloed a pylon without using any pets (did have muscular alpha and reactive interface, but still, a PB soloing a pylon - who'd a' thunk it not so long ago)
-
Yeah, it really is that good. Just be aware if you perma it, you will have a Crash every 90 seconds. Although it's easy enough to deal with (just keep a few blues and be ready for a heal), you will have to keep a close eye on it to do so. It's not just fire and forget, but that's a price I'm more than willing to pay.
-
Likely will remain a VIP unless something else comes along that just blows me away (I'm a one paying MMO at a time kind of person).
Of all coming current and coming MMOs, I don't see one that could dethrone COH; although if World of Darkness Online ever sees the light of day, it might have a chance. -
Quote:Yes, that true. The best way to use Photon Seekers is to play them like you would a standard Nuke. Get right in the middle of a as tightly packed mobs as you can and set them off. Each nearby mob will get hit by all 3 Seekers (you'll see 3 sets of orange numbers over each close mob). They can pack quite a wallop.just a standard pbaoe explosion really, all targets in range take the same dmg
I prefer seekers to Dawnstrike because it has no Crash and it's up fairly often. With enough recharge, you can easily have them available for every large group of foes. For a prolonged fight like Rommy, they will be available many times.
