I may not have ever been a gamer girl (lacking the proper anatomical equipment for such a role) but my wife is a gamer girl, and my closest friends are gamer girls. I know what they go through/have been through. Sometimes I think my wife would get hounded less in a singles bar than in a gaming store. At least the ones around here. I've been to a few that are better. (Like when I worked for WotC, they had good stores) but those are rarities, not the rule in my experience)

I tihnk anyone who's ever seen a zombie movie can accuratly picture being a girl walking into a gaming store. That said, I've been playing Pen and Paper RPG's for er.. half my life... and I'm the only guy in my gaming crew now. (Yes, Snowlily is a Man, /gasp) so I understand. I have the opposite problem. I walk into a gaming store with my gaming friends (all girls) and I feel like they are laying fronds at my feet ("Your friends are girrrrlllss!! tell us how master! How!")

I didn't get much done today, my son has the stomach flu and he was throwing up from midnight last night well into the wee hours of dawn.. so my day was spent being a parent, not an artist heh.

But, while he was napping/playing on his ps2 I managed to get some solid work on page 1 done. Its not done yet, but its come a long way.

No text yet (what little there will be on this page anyway.) and I am still not happy with the leaping catgirl in the bottom panel.

Skin tone, shadowing, color adjustment and clean up are pretty much done though. and backgrounds.

You should try BESM DB (Big Eyes Small Mouth)

Lots of fun. ( I mean, c'mon, you can make everything from super serious martial artists to pokemon trainers to Power rangers! how can you not love that)

TfOS is definatly a classic, though, much fun had laughing my butt off with friends playing it.

(Actually, Foxlily, my fire/fire tanker was a sort of play from my original TfOS character... waaaay back, though she certainly wasn't a tanker then.)

Congrats Star! I used to work IT for the Washington State Bar Assoc. So I know what you guys go through to pass those damn tests! (When you have to moniter databases of lawyers, and everyone in the office is a lawyer Except the IT crew and the receptionists, you hear lots of stories.)

And awesome work as always DJ, I covet your hair skillz. I still reffer to your little tutorial with Rowr every time. (and I still suck at it)

But yes, I've been known to just stare at something I did going "How awesome is that, I rock" 30 minutes later I see something someone else did and I am so disgusted by my work I can't even stand to be in the same room as it. (same piece)

With writing (my first artistic passion. Digital artz are kind ofa new gig for me) I obsess over a piece for days, tweaking word placement gramar, vocab, etc.. Everything I wrote before it is crap, and I will never write this well again... OR Its horrible, it will never be good enough, What am I even Thinking calling myself a writer? OR Go emo and use my wallowing in self loathing to push out something that makes me want to stab myself in the eyes with my own keyboard, then a few days later I look at it again (you never can resist the urge to tweak, no matter how bad) and think "hey... thats not half bad, I'm a decent writer."

last update for the day probably, I'll do all the clean up, detail work, post production type stuff late tonight and tomorrow most likely. but wanted to post the finalized layouts of each page.

Keep in mind, it looks Very sloppy! I haven't done Anything but cutouts and scaleing so far, no smudging, no repainting, no effects (no backgrounds!) no detail work. These were just to layout and make sure I had all the images I needed.

Treat these like any other artists 'sketch WIP'

Thats really good screenshot work. You do lightning effects very well, is that a filter you have or do you do it by hand?

very nice text effects too. some of the better photoshop work I've seen (in general, not just CoH)

I love this piece, the style is perfect for the pose and mood.

I'm still a little >.< with page 2, so the layout may change again. took a me a while to work out the stabbing shot too.

any suggestions for layout on that page are appreciated though no guarentee's I'll use them, but more ideas = better.

I really like your art style, reminds me of times when I enjoyed reading comics and not the glossy sports illustrated swimsuit artz they are these days (damn kids, off my lawn! and take your soft core pr0n comics with you!)

My Claw/dark scrapper, Superstition!

So I thought I'd give a WIP peek at my current project, its the most extensive screenshot manip I have done to date. I'm taking several images and piling them together for a brief 4 page 'comic'

I've always liked the screenshot comics people have done, and wanted to give it a shot.

So, yea, anyway...

here's the sketch layouts I did to plan out what images I needed, and placement, scale, etc.

(Sorry about the awful pencil sketches, now you can see why I say I can't draw! )

Here is the layout of the 4 pages in photoshop. You can see I've hardly done any manipulation yet (just a little of the leaping down shot on page 1) all I did was gather the shots I needed, arranged them and scaled them (roughly) to each other.


Anyway, I'll be updating this thread as I go, I've always enjoyed seeing other people's work come to life, thought I'd share a little bit of my process on the chance other people like to watch from the sidelines too.
