  1. Interesting fact: The first episode of Dr. Who aired the day JFK was shot.

Micheal Clark Duncan hardly ever plays the same role and shows massive acting chops yet you think he doesn't deserve to be on a list where the majority don't act but rather play themselves and the character in the script just match up. If that's how you are going to judge then Keanu belong on that list as much if not more than a number of those guys.
That's not entirely true - Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro used to actually act, to show some range. It's just that, since the early 90s, Al Pacino has resorted to playing only Al Pacino, and studios have hired him to play Al Pacino.

Jack Nicholson has always only played Jack Nicholson, though.

That was actually universal across China for a period of time - it was a symbol of subservience to the Manchus, who were in charge of China as the Qing dynasty from 1644 until the fall of Imperial China and the rise of the Republic. Shave the front of your head and wear it long in back, or face the death penalty.

I am saddened that we didn't get a Steelclaw top ten list here.

I'd blocked all memory of that film from my brain.

    Thanks.

That's... 25 years of Dr. Who, you do realize, right?

Not deeply into it at this point (more involved with the Insurgents book, as I started it first) but looking forward to spending quite a bit of time with it.

Book on hold: China, a history. Very thick, and not something I'd suggest just dipping a toe into if your'e not slightly familiar with it. Doesn't help that - not being stereotypical here - it seems every third Wu, Hu, and Xi just rotate out to fight each other. Very easy to lose track of who's doing what to Wu - er, who, and why.

Probably going to start over with that and a notepad - and some ancillary book. I never manage to get a grasp on Chinese or Russian history.
I've actually got a suggestion for you: God's Chinese Son, by Johnathan D. Spence. Smaller subsection of Chinese History - called the Tai-Ping Rebellion. Of course, it would more accurately be called a revolution...

Oddly enough, on my stack of books that's in play soon is A Bright And Guilty Place - a non-fiction book about LA and its noir-ness.

Well, at the moment, I am once again re-reading the entire Chronicles of Amber series. All 10 books in one volume.
Don't have the big book, I have a couple of omnibi and some paperbacks. I re-read them earlier this year.
  12. We haven't had one of these threads in a while.

    Recently read:
    Kiln People, David Brin
The Big Over Easy, Jasper Fforde
    Revelation Space, Alastair Reynolds

Currently reading: Redemption Ark, Alastair Reynolds

That's because, while Orcrist, Glamdring and Narsil were probably more powerful and awesome, Sting was the cool and memorable blade in LotR and the Hobbit.

Obscure meaning that it hardly ranks in a 'top ten geek swords' list, not that 'no one but me has ever heard of it.' (As an aside, my brother played a Katana/Dark scrapper named Helshezag here.)

Yes, I have a copy of the 3.5-based LW RPG - though I think I heard they'd made a new edition not based on DnD.
  15. Fun preview. Don't know I'd actually want to play it, but fun.

    Riddick 3 Info

Chronicles of Riddick was, at its heart, a Conan movie in space.

    And that was awesome.
  17. *pointedly ignores everything Durraken has to say*

Stormbringer ought to have been number one. I occasionally re-read The Quest for Tanelorn, just to see an Eternal Champion actually refusing the black sword. Chills up my spine and all that.

Also, the list needed more Greyswandir. And probably more Somerswerd, but that's absolutely an obscure source.

Pretty well. Defenses were solid, and SJ hit like a truck. Nil AoE capabilities at the levels I played it to (around 24-ish.) It is rough going until you hit 20, though - all you had was two combo-builder attacks and one finisher, plus Taunt and Build-up. That third attack really helps.

    Ice/Stone Tanker

You've got a decent set-up there, but it could do with a couple of tweaks.

In Stone Fist: drop out the Crushing Impacts for a set of four Kinetic Combat. Alternatively, slot four of Smashing Haymaker in two of your single target attacks. In Tremor, slot three to four Eradication.

Your tanker is hitting the softcap with six targets hit by EA; making the changes I suggest will hit the softcap with one target. That's useful for AVs.

Be sure to stick a Performance Shifter +End in Physical Perfection, and you should be good to go.

    Uses for Burnout

We old geezers remember those days...

If you are able to click unstoppable before it drops, you still get the crash. On a tanker, it's not going to be enough to kill you unless you're taking exotic damage, as you'll still have 90% resists. It's easy enough to get your toggles back up and hit Dull Pain in that circumstance.

We used to play that way back in I3. Of course, scrappers were able to do the same thing, as they also had the 90% resist caps. I couldn't speak to scrappers doing the same thing today.

It was a heart attack every two minutes. But it was better than being rooted any time you wanted mez protection.

Checking the patch notes indicates that it's supposed to only grant positional defense. It's probably working as intended, though I think the intentions are... insufficient.

Fully a third of the titles that made the top 100 start with the letters A-F. I think you may be correct.

    Oh, is it just positionals?

We should poke the devs to make it types as well, so that other thematic pairings, like, say... WP/MA get a benefit from it, too.
