Not to mention the changing missions while in-mission..
...you know, where it first says find the blahblah, then when you click it, it suddenly changes into a defeat-all, some of them are even on a timer.
Level 14 now, and just got tossed around four zones again. Guess what! It's gonna be another 2 years I stay away from the blue side because this is #¤%#"¤% "#¤%"#¤% stupid REDICULOUS! -
Most of you may know me as a redside only, but I recently returned to the hero side after basically staying away for two years. Unfortunately several of the reasons I stay redside are still there and it's amazing to me nothing's been done about it:
I now have two alts running, one fire/rad powerteam'er that's basically without problems, and another alt I basically solo with. With the solo one I'm trying to do a lot of story arcs since that's what I really liked about heroes, but find that I still hate actually doing it:
1. From level one to level 14 I have now changed zone more than 100 times. Yes, not kidding, I've kept track of it. 64 of those times I've changed zone due to the games and the missions, being ordered around in a single arc to more than 6 zone swaps. THIS IS SILLY!
Yes, in the new content that problem is pretty much gone, later on you can stay in themed zones etc and ouroboros, bases etc helps a bit, but think of it like this:
You're a new player in a game that's new to you, you wanna get some experience and not make a fool of yourself so you start of soloing quite a lot. You end up dead, dead and more dead because you don't know how to get around, ending up back in the hospital to do that long jumping/flying once again - if you've learned that you can get a jetpack/jumppack that is. Once again, these story arcs and all go-talk-to assignments need some thinking.
This was a major part for going and staying redside for me, I was going nuts on my old computer zoning and running all over IP, skyway etc over and over again just to talk-to some dude/dudette. Sure, I don't RP but I seriously doubt that's a good argument to have that much insane travelling at low levels. Some, yes, to get to know the game, but it's way silly still.
Personally, f'coz I know the game, but I'm surprised how incredibly annoyed I got by it. I keep logging off because I just can't stand it. (I'm also still lvl 20 in Lotro due to the same issue, been in that game since beta, rofl)
2. Defeat-all: I'm getting surprised as I level villains when I find these, because it was another major part to leave blueside. Unfortunately they're still there in huuuge quantities and not rarely in huge maps where someone is hiding somewhere or worse, stuck in a wall.
The "hidden last minion standing" issue needs a smart fix. Yes, you can auto-complete, yes you can reset mission, but spending near 45 minutes slowly solo-"defeating" everything on the map in a timed mission won't make you go out and reset it and it happens way too often, so auto-complete isn't really a fix.
3. Hostages and elevators. Sigh... Really a bug, but can we agree to not put hostages etc in maps with portals, elevators etc? -
That...
was...
...f'in GREAT! -
We had a blast doing the Striga TF repeatedly last time I did this, so Striga is definitely my suggestion, only problem being the "new" xp curve making us level a bit faster than I had expected due to the massive liut/boss/Av xp we're getting.
We should be able to provide SK for you Scarlet, so you're welcome to join us.
Looking forward to tomorrow's session (just hoping I'm done with my work before, been a bit lazy today). -
Another good run, lvl 21-22 now!
Next time, Faultline, sunday 6 pm. (Forgot to put it in motd in the channel and SG, soz), and a "regular" run om monday 6 pm.
Feel free to solo cossie and/or cape mission.
I'd like to thank everyone for showing up, it's been the most fun in-game this year (pun intended) and I'm so happy it's not been a pain to mend the team together with constantly new recruits. We should be lvl 50 before Double XP weekend methink! -
Nice Uther!
We will try to run again on thursday 6 pm (19.00 central EU time) and we're going to have a few openings, so anyone with a jet pack is welcome to shop up in Faultline on a first come, first in basis. You'll catch up pretty fast anyway.
I sure wouldn't mind if we could get two teams going some days or just have 16 people forming teams as it suits them on a regular 6 pm daily "event". With XP pact + sidekick system that shouldn't be too hard and personally I don't mind mentoring down if it would come to that.
So anyone interested, read the simple guide earlier in this thread, roll your fire/rad troller, and join the fun! -
Ohgod, I've been waiting for this one.
My 8800 crashes all the time on my vista machine when I run CoX, while everything else works fine. Grey screen of death I call it. -
I noticed the updater "flickered" a lot, doing some sort of update. On one computer my antivirus software noticed the updater had changed and forced me to take action (granting it access to internet).
As usual there's no official information of what it was, but if you, like me, transfered CoX from one computer to another, it may very well be that some files have become read-only and still passed previous updates of the game.
This time it seems it was the updater itself, not the game that was updated.
Still, I'd prefer just a short official note about these things, like: Announcement: Updater was/will be updated today, more information will be announced shortly.
I always get paranoid when there's no official statement. -
Well, at the end of the evening we where lvl 15, full team!
Some of us can't play every day, so we could still use a few more players (sidekicked).
Next run - probably - Thursday 6 pm in Faultline.
Might try one on saturday or sunday as well.
Regular time again on monday 6 pm.
To those that showed up: Great fun folks, thanks for joining. -
The normal way for people using this as a PL tool to get a 50 fast is to burn (literally) through radio missions to avoid travelling. For me fast levelling is a nice bonus, but I'm in it for the fun. I still hate travelling so this is my suggested road map:
Zones:
The Hollows, lvl 5-15
Faultline, lvl 15-25
Striga, lvl 20-30
Croatoa, lvl 25-35
RWZ, lvl 35-
(maybe Shadow Shard, lvl 40+)
"Stopping" just to pick up the safeguard badges/temps. Personally I'd love to do some of the TFs as well, only done about half of'em so far (the power of the redside keeps me from it). Last time (on the smelly server) we abused the Hess TF madly and had a good laugh out of it - repeatedly.
Now don't forget: 6 pm this evening -
Well, it seems like I will be busy blueside with the new fire/rad troller team on mondays and tuesdays. I'll have to check my new scedule to see what days I can stand longer runs since most people seem to be on BST time and want to start later than me!
Should be able to start up some more regular wednesday runs at least, and friday runs (usually hard to get ppl on fir's though) -
Well, looking at the lists and what thread this is posted in, I conclude this is a very bluesided list even if a few Like King of Toys etc are mentioned.
I agree with a lot of the names (but missed River?), but the redside Legends are sorely missing, quite a few of'em have also left the game for various (unfortunately often sad) reasons. (Zzorg, Stone Brawler, Dark Fire Bug etc)
Then again, of the active rednames, pretty much everyone knows everyone; Liz, Rhi, London, Bananas, all the cool spanish dudes, Shock, Muddy, Smurfnof, Lil Loony (too much on union lately tho', get over it man), etc. We're all a ..erhm, small happy family. -

My global is @Lightningclaw. How many can you have in a leveling pact? I thought it was only two apiece.
Anyway, my Fire/Rad is ready in Atlas. See you Tuesday.
Edit: Excessive use of 'way
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, you can only have one level pact, so we want an even numbered team., preferably around 10-14 people (or two full teams ideally) so we can keep going 2-3 days every week without too much slowdowns.
It's a way of keeping people in the team, buddy pressure. If it doesn't work and someone ends up frustrated by never seeing his/her buddy pulling his weight, we'll just un-pact, but it's a great way of not leaving anyone behind because they need to be away for one or two sessions.
..not that it would be too bad, they'd catch up fast enough, but this way they - with some luck - won't have to.
Four of us formed up today and did some, erhm, testing, so we're lvl 4, but you ppl will catch up in well... one mission... -
Cossie is fine and we're meeting outside city hall.
Level 1-4 is ok, even lvl 5 if you first XP pact with one of the others. I've done the tutorial, just because I like the badge in there!
Anyone arriving late, just send a global tell to @Second one and we'll get you in. doesn't really matter if we lk some people etc, it's still insane, furious fun - and noone is left behind.
I my experience from the last run, it's quite good if we have up to 16 people to start with since some fall off and some can't play all the time. Anyone with a fire/rad is welcome to the SG/Channel and any fire/kin is welcome to the sg and as team filler.
As long as people stick to the powers I don't mind Sidekicking at all. People tend to catch up very fast!
Also, it would be good if you all get skype. It adds to the fun and makes everything even easier. If you don't wanna talk, that's fine, just listen in on the "orders". -
Ok, we have 10 people interested, so we should be able to get this going.
Team so far:
@Second One, alias Hot Feets (that's my 2nd account)
@Notfarouto
MrWallace (Not Sun/Thurs)
Omega__MCX + buddy
Uther_dracus + buddy (not wed/fri and some sat)
Mereman (maybe?)
Treagy
Nakai
Done so far:
Started new SG called Hot Feets and a global channel with the same name, open, so just add it.
Needed:
Coalition SG with Telepads for the first week or so!
Build instructions:
Primary Powers you MUST take ASAP:
Char - MUST TAKE first power
Hot Feets
Flashfire
Fire Imps
Secondary Powers you MUST take ASAP:
Radiant Aura
Accelerated metabolism
Choking Cloud
Other Powers you MUST take ASAP:
Leadership pool, everything but vengeance.
Defense thingy first
Other things some of us should take:
Primary: (Fire cages), Smoke, Cinders
Secondary: RA, EF, LR and some Mutation should be good to have
Powers NOT needed
You should not need HASTEN
You should not need the FITNESS pool (Stamina etc) as long as we run this team. It's nice to have so you can cram it in later or respec, but leadership is WAY MORE important. 8 sets of AM will take care of your end problem.
Costume
Since not everyone will have the Justice pieces, I went for a Stealth uniform with no details whatsoever and a normal face, not that stupd mask. Black main colour, dark red secondary (also SG colour). Simple yet fairly ok.
First meeting:
I'll probably be busy monday, so I suggest Tuesday 6 january 19.00 CET (That's 6 pm british time) by the atlas town hall i guess!
Game days:
Mondays and Tuesdays seem to be the days we can play, and some Saturdays? -
So it's 2009, huh...
I think it's time for a reminder that there's a lot CoX related projects and stuff out there, so here's something CoXy to do:
You have the City of Heroes comic archive:
http://www.cityofheroes.com/media_an...c_archive.html
A lot of people seem to miss that one! :-)
For those of you into actually helping others here's two projects:
There's a Rosetta at Home team for badge hunter up and running at:
http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/te...hp?teamid=2896
and a Folding at Home CoX team at:
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...teamnum=142938
Both projects uses your spare CPU or GPU power to do some heavy math that may end up helping people with cancer and other health related problems.
On a more fun side there's the minicities (not mine and don't post your own either please):
http://paragon-city.myminicity.com/
http://grandville.myminicity.com/
http://bloody-bay.myminicity.com/
http://st-martial.myminicity.com/ (This one is HUGE)
On the new website there's some fun stuff as well:
Ghostraptor's Community blog (What!!!)
http://eu.cityofheroes.com/en/community/
..and all the fansites:
http://eu.cityofheroes.com/en/community/fansites/
Gotta love the hunks and huns! ,)
(Oh, btw, D.o.A/Smurfite website is still down due to some serious Router problems, time and general foobar)
If that's not enough, click back, and go to the Creative section on this forum. Always fun and surprisingly active.
There's also the City of Kittenz Merchandize shop on the way. Hope Mothers_Love get it up and running, but check out some of the ideas:
http://uk.boards.cityofvillains.com/show...part=1&vc=1
For your event notification pleasure, there's also several Google calendars:
http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src...urope/Stockholm
http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src...urope/Stockholm
There's a few things missing here, so feel free to fill in more CoX related stuff.
Is there still a lvl 50 list of heroes and/or villains anywhere? (Considering how fast they come out, it's somewhat unlikely to be useful) -
[ QUOTE ]
Myself and a housemate are currently in a pact with our recently made fire/rad and a /kin. If its ok for us to both join in then ill tell him about this and we will be happy to help out.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, one kin works fine. Not made one myself yet.
What do you ppl say about a lvl 20 "Justice" cossie? Main Colour free, same colour on the "details"?
So that's five, plus one contacted me in-game! It doesn't hurt to have more than 8 people, since a few tend to fall off, or can't play every day. We want at least 6 running for it to be fun, at any time. -
It's been a bit quiet lately redside methink, so let's try to warm us up this cold, dark winter. Sure, most of us are running with our regular teams. I usually stay away from PUG's, but we do need some fresh blood redside.
I suggest we set a specific {b]regular[/b] time and place for people to form up pick-up groups for respecs and TFs and a couple of leaders taking care of them. It would be great if we could have one running every day, but at least 2 days a week should work.
Sure, there used to be a fairly regular pick-up stage in Grandville for RSFs and you can always hang out in Cimmy, getting picked up for a coop ITF, but I miss the other Strike Forces and now they give something useful every run.
I'm trying to set up another fire/rad powerteam blueside, but guessing I'll be able to arrange PUG SFs on wednesdays and fridays at 6 or 7 pm.
Anyone else want a "regular" spot on those teams?
Anone else wanna try to help lead/arrange more PUG SF days?
This should basically be a good way of filling teams as well, or even arranging competitions "Who'll finish the (unnamed) SF first"? -
Ok, I know some people really don't like stuff like this and if you're one of them, just don't read, leave this thread.
I've been missing a lvl 50 hero on my second account for a long time, since I'm a redside only normally, but with the smurfs taking a break until the devs actually put content into the game again I've got some time over and thought:
HEY! LET'S MAKE ANOTHER FIRE/RAD TROLLER POWERTEAM!
I've done it before on Union and it's great fun, even if it's VERY easy. For the people that don't know the drill, here's the simplified lowdown:
All take fire/rad trollers and build upon the team idea, meaning we take leadership quite early to get 8 stacked defenses etc. With fire imps, hot feet and all the buffs an 8 man team kills anything on top difficulty in no time easily. (Want to know more, check american forum, easy to find guides for it)
There's two problems with these teams: People not taking the proper powers and team members dropping off. Personally I'd love to try on STF with an 8 man team, so we'll start this off with a little twist:
8 man team, everyone paired up with XP PACT. That means a couple of things:
1. You can be away at times, but if you're away too often we'll kick you out and spread the word! Also, occational deaths doesn't impact much even on the lower levels
2. We might level a bit slower, but these powerteams level soo fast we'll still level faster than you'll usually do. Still, this should weed out any XP leechers since they also don't earn inf/enhancements while offline.
3. If/When too many fail to show up, we'll of course abandon the XP pacts. For this reason it would be great if you can bring a pal you trust so we can keep up the pacts/teams for as long as possible.
The other approach is to have an open team, invite anyone at any time that's fire/rad powerbuilt and just have a regular time we're playing. I personally prefer the first method since we can set up skype conversations as well to keep us running really smooth.
It would be fun if we could use the same costumes, colours etc, maybe even build a SG for this that could eventually grow to accept all fire + rad/kins for anytime-powerteam-lvl-50-madness.
Now, I'm usually not on the blue side so I wouldn't care to build the SG/base, but would enjoy it.
So sign up if you're interested or contact me in-game @sing star. Suggest times when you can play and we'll try to sort it out. -

3. Yesterday I accidentally left Cimerora (going for base purples) while on ITF, and was kicked from team without warning since we had a mixed team. There really should be a warning about this to stop mistakes. Some in that PUG team got really upset. (The same that didn't eat any insps while we miserably failed to kill the Nictus Romulus btw)
[/ QUOTE ]
I think it's always been the case that if you leave Cimerora while on an ITF team then it automatically kicks you out. It's not a bug as it's meant to do that. I don't know if it's an i13 thing or was always the case but it was mentioned on the forums somewhere.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just because it's been that way before doesn't mean it's ok. There really should be a warning before you leave the zone since 1-2 hours of work can be wasted due to sleep depravation, simple stupidity and god knows what. -
Well, as long as you have Shivans up, vengeance, eat 4 purple insps any team should be fine in any end-fight SF/TF but in some teams it does get a bit frustrating. I've been fighting the honoree for a long time in some cases and ended up in a team that didn't eat their 4 lucks fighting the Nictus Romulus yesterday and it IS frustrating.
The thing is to REALLY get all to eat their 4 lucks, repeatedly and you can do basically anything in any team. it will take a few runs but even without shivans, debuffs and vengeance it can be done. It's just so much easier with it all.
After all, several of us has been on MoRSF runs that was successful. THAT one however DOES require very specific team builds (still leaving 1-3 spots open for others tho') -
Had a LOT of rubberbanding and out-of-body lately. /Sync seems to help for me, but apparently NC have issues with their ISP again!
...because as usual it's a lot of people on different ISPs with the same problem. That, or we just need the usual "improved stability patch" again. -
Some new/returning bugs:
1. Mastermind team window title says "Pets" again. Ok, so team members are my pets, but that's a bit evil.
1½. on the same MM when I tried to remove Sprint power, it removed the (pet command) Attack button instead. I couldn't remove sprint until I had moved it from location 0 in the first tray to another tray. I ended up deleting that new alt instead of remaking that macro myself. For n00bs this would prolly say: Get another game!
2. On one of my alts I could kick SG mates, but I couldn't invite people.
4. Invited a lvl 1 to team to see if I could SG-invite after that. Was in a mission, quit team. When mission was completed all FORMER team members got the mission complete text and soundbyte, but no xp or chat message. Being in the middle of their own fights they got rather... ...surprised.
Happy new bugyear! -
PPl have already said all this, but still... here's my thoughts:
I don't pvp and I don't really wanna pvp because it's 99% solo and utterly pointless. Still I do get a HUGE kick out of massive pvp battles (16+ players) so what would it take for me and other casual pvp'ers to go to the zones more often?
1. PVP must be rewarded. Yes, Shivans and nukes are rewards, but not for pvp'ing. As I see it, Sirens is the only useful pvp place and there's rarely enough people on defiant there for it to be useful. So give good xp, inf or something for it. It's currently exploitable since there's not enough people in the zones but if it was successful there'd be enough people to gank you if you try to exploit it.
2. This IS a team based game. Apparently some people do enjoy one on one arena fights, but for me pvp is all about the zones and all out fights. The I13 balancing was therefore pointless and seem to have killed the zones totally.
3. If NC means bussiness, get the community coordinators to hold regular zone invasions like the one in Sirens years ago when we had 3 instances of sirens. If held on a regular time the community is likely to take care of it themselves after a few runs. I didn'd care much for Bridger but he made content where there where none and that's worth a thumbs up.
4. Don't ever expect pvp to be balanced or brilliant since it was put in after the game. Making a good pvp game is near to impossible, putting it in after is bound to fail, but can still be fun.
As for the old pvp, it was solo this, solo that and mindnumbingly boring on any alt I had. I either died in a few seconds on non-pvp builds, ended up chasing people running or bunny-jumping or even worse: found an opponent balanced against my build and fought for 15 minutes hitting my one-two-three powers over and over again. That way one could argue the new pvp might be better, but again I fail to see the point of soloing a MMO, doesn't matter if it's PVE, PVP or "RvR"
Introducing the Rikti playable faction would give a fun faction-vs-faction-vs-faction scenario though.
Happy new year folks. Don't drink too much and be careful with the fireworks (Yeah, thinking about YOU fireblappers)
