As for the other two programs, i'll grab those once I try moving everything over tot he external hd again since right now I am in safe mode and trying what they told me. I had my comp on all night while stuf moved over.

My comp did freeze throughout the night and I had to reboot. I with half my stuff on the external hd, I scanned with Malwarebytes. It came up with two things this time, but it was dif.

it has Trojan.Agent and it says it found it in C:\WINDOWS\system32\uacinit.dll and Rootkit.Trace Registry Key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\UAC

but why does that first one show C drive? and whats HKEY?

Does this mean that they copied over a C drive and hkey directory over to my hd or does this mean that my external hd, so far, is okay and it just found those two in the main computers directory?


Very confused right now. I am at least happy that I am getting the same thing now. Up until now, each scan would give me several different results of different kinds.


As for those 2 things that it is continuously finding now, I keep deleting them and they return.

But I want to make sure they are just on the comp and not on my external hd. IF this is the case, i can just move it all to the external and then wipe the comp or something.

Computer viruses are not some animated slime that acts under its own power. They attach/embed in files which have to be executed for something to happen. Your flash drive and external HD may have infected files *ON* them, but they are not 'contaminated'.

Many types of files are not subject to infection. It is quite likely that some, most or all of your files are not actually infected - you are simply having trouble getting at them.

Any time you lose more than a few hours of work, it means you have GRIEVOUSLY screwed up. Many people don't even ask themselves what would happen *IF* a hard drive fails. It's not a question of "if". If you use computers very much at all, it's pretty much guaranteed you WILL have a hard drive fail eventually.

An external hard drive is NOT good enough. What if your main drive crashed and you go to get your back-up drive, trip and drop it? Anything worth saving needs to get recorded onto a less fragile medium (CD, DVD) and stored in a safe location (i.e. not in the same building as the computer it came from).

Obviously this isn't what you want to hear right now but, unless you decide to never create any new content ever again, this *WILL* come up again in the future.

I'm also going to get another external hd too. That way it cant get both.


Also, when scanning my comp, not a single anti virus program has been able to locate and find this virus. Only the spawned virus'.

They believe the real virus is somewhere within my windows files.

Another strange thing is that there are normal windows files on ALL of my flash drives and hd.

So for some reason... this damn thing replicated itself onto all these things and spawned several virus' throughout them. At least thats what I understand from this professional guy looking at it.

That is a pronouncement of doom usually made by somebody who doesn't know much about virus removal and who has one of the really crappy anti virus programs like Symantec or PcCillin.

If the computer runs at all then start it in safe mode and run Hijackthis then post the results here. Odds are that there is a specific removal tool for the virus you have. And even if it can't be removed I can pretty much guarantee it can be disabled so that you can copy all your files safely before reformatting the drive.

I used malwarebytes. I also have as a backup sometimes, avast (for boottime scanning) and someone while this was oging on had me dl SUPERAntiSpyware.

And Safe Mode wouldnt let me load up my virus protection. It was fully active and fucntional in safe mode.

And even professional virus removers are surprised and having alot of problems with this thing.

Its not written word. Its images, CBC files, CL files, coh demo edits and there images and stuff like that. The computer I am on now can not run coh so trying to even recreate some of the million+ images I was working with wouuld be impossible...

I do have an external hd.

I also have flashdrives.

This virus was apparently on my ssystem in wait for awhile because the last time I backed up my files, it got in apparently (might have even been before the last backup... several backups ago. Its been in there for at least 2 months)


It can apparently cross USB. It spawns hundreds of other virus' and they do the damage to the computer. I've gotten several names over all of this and continue to remove them all. Its corrupted dozens of files and locks me out of programs and areas of my computer.

It apparently had a keylogger on my computer so I had to change all my passwords from email to bank and beyond.


I've had professionals that have looked at my computer and continually go "wow" or "oh [censored]" and other phrases as what they attempt to do is blocked.


I did get lucky and have weakened the virus. It now is not fully working while in safe mode. I can run normal anti-virus software for a bit without it becoming corrupted or having to close.


Last night I had a geek squad guy change settings on my computer and weaken the virus even more. I am in safe mode right now attempting to reformat my hd and then move my files over again. At this point they say it will at least be easier for them to combat one virus rather than hundreds.


As for why I posted it here. I was looking for help. I have had one person send me a tell givign some advice and offering help. If this guy that is working on my computer currently can not help, I will be asking them for help and more advice from there on and aswell as anyone here who is willing to offer it.

I make a comic book series using CoH.

I have an SG mate help me with this. In the helping, he sometimes lets me use his account. My use his account, it means log into it and do one of a few things:
1. design a toon. Afterwards he logs into that toon and stands in the right places I need him to stand in.
and/or
2. I use a toon of his and place him where he needs to be and take the shots, fully controlling it myself.

Does this break the rules?


Also, if I let my friend try out the game by logging into my account and trying stuff out, does this break the rules then too?


I thought this was dealing only for when you pay someone to do something like farm or pl your toon up. Like those annoying spam emails we all keep getting but the way its worded and sounds, it sounds as if what i said above and possibly even more are ban-able offenses.


Am I misunderstand this? A Dev official response would be great and lay any fears I and my friend (that helps me do the comics) has on the subject.

Cant replace any of that work... all that time and effort...

My decision is to buy another machine, because it's going to take too much to get this one to 'merely adequate' state.

Its not alot of time and effort. Its pretty much a free card since I have the gift card for dell. There is nothing else to do with the machine besides the gcard.

Another machine, like i said, is out of the question. I have zero money. Its impossible, out of the question.

This is my only option. So its not a waist to me, but thank you for telling me that it is.

I was trying to find power information about the 8400. I saw the 6200s power is recommended at 250 w.

My computer, i think, has a 250 w power thing.
I cant seem to find the power use or reccommendation for 8400.

Anyone able to help with that?

Yeah, no money for a new computer.

I had a very large gift card from dell so I want to upgrade it.

The only out of pocket I spent was 2 $35 dollar 512mb ram sticks which brought my comp up to 1gb.

Already its running alot better.

Remeber this isnt my main computer at all. Its just that my main is currently uber sick and I need something to be able to log in and spend some free time.... Of course i wont be able to do my comics or anything...


The thing that I was looking at is this:
the 8400 is pci which i hear is slower than agp. 6200 is agp...


Someone told me because of that interface, there isnt that much of a difference.

Okay so I am trying to buy a new graphics card for my older computer (espeically since my newer one has a super bad virus that i cant seem to get rid of...)

My older comp here is a Dell Dimension 4300.

It curently has a Geforce 2 series in it.
The comp only has 512mb in it right now, ill be upgrading it to 1G (the max for it).

1.besides upgrading the ram and the vid card, what else can i do?

2. What is the best graphics card for a computer with only 1g ram?
I am not looking for the top of the line, just the best this computer can get.


I was speaking with a rep at dell (i have a gift card which is the only reason I am buying it from them cuz I know its normally more expensive) and they listed off alot. I'll put them in the list here.

Geforce 5200 128mb

radion 2600 256mb (something about a 28mb interface and media stuff and somehow she said the word TV programy thing in there with its extra stuff)

and the final one is the
Geforce 8400 512mb or 256mb



Which is the better? My main game is City of Heroes but every once in awhile I play other games. I plan to try the KOTOR mmo and possibly CO and other MMOs in the future (never leaving coh though :P ) and so I'd like something thatll at least hit around there minimum or above.


Any advice and help would be greatly appriciated as i am not tech savvy at all and any review i look at leaves me with the same unsure feeling I had when i started out.

I do not pvp.

What this guy did was not PvP.

It is FORCED PvE.

He is using tp to force another player into a confrontation with an NPC drone. NPCs are envirnment which is PvE.

So what he was doing was in no way PvP. He never killed the guys, just set it up for an NPC to do so.


I could do the same thing in a PvE zone. I could take a lvl 50 hero in PI. Get on a team with some hapless lvl 1 and TP him above a lvl 50+ mob. Boomed, force PvE.


Not PvP. Forced PvE!

I suggest that it would be better for everybody if the regular content were made more convenient. The hero SO stores are pointlessly inconvenient, and before AE the tendecy of doors to be locataed at distant locations in other zones already led many teams to use scanners as their primary content.

I've attempted to run the basic hero content before and it seriously is not an asset to the game as is. Not only that but it is just about solo exclusive beause it's hard to find people willing to do that rather than scanners or whatever.

And seriously, what was Atlas Park before? Sewer teams. Trying to get a PUG that will do the super inconvenient level 5 maps is hard to start with. The team is of little use to those who aren't the person getting the maps, and rarely are any of the team willing to stay long.

I think it would be worthwhile for the devs to go through those, some of which are pretty neat and would make cool team content, and bring gameplay up to villain standards. In any situation that makes sense to the story, move the doors to the same zone as the NPC. Most importantly, set them to give out phone numbers after 1 job.

I'd also give the newbies some sort of 1-hour charge self-rez that they can use until level 10.

That inconvenience was intended to keep people playing longer, but I think that most everyone would agree that removal of such annoyances, and opening content that many would not do otherwise, would do more for subscription times.

Agreed. Annoyance as a game-balancing factor is a bad idea. I routinely auto-skip arcs that I've done at least once till I get the contacts cell and some of them don't give you their number till you have done a lot of missions for them. CoV handles this much better.

But I think if you did it for the first time and it was easy and uber convienant, you would have not enjoyed it as much and possibly not stuck with the game.

The problem is that its too easy. No searching for what you need. Thats what ALL MMOs have. AE made the game very boring. I try to not play it but honestly, i think whats the point.

It made things too easy and if its easy... why do the difficult stuff unless you are bored and want the content?

If there were contacts around the city and you could set it to them,
or if you could set mission doors instead of the same door inside AE,

or maybe just you had to travel to the AE building in atlas for the first mish and then the AE building in Steel for the next part and so on. (whatever the creator designs it to be).


Castle, the numbers themselves are balanced here, yes but not the gameplay itself or the mentality of doing a mission.


This guy you quoted said it great. ITs exactly why I think AE is going to, in the end, be seen as a misstep rather than an achievement (way down the line).

Its cool doing original player contect but... its borign cuz its RIGHT THERE.... everything... you never have to really leave.

For the casual gamer, this hurts us. We want to do some missioning a few hours a week. The allure of having evertyhing there draws us in. We play our missinos in the one spot and thats it.

But we get bored much quicker and leave much quicker and play less.

Its kind of like PLing. If you PL a toon from 1 to 50 asap. A day, a week, a month, whatever; you get bored with that character much much much much much quicker than if you worked hard and played the game. I know I experienced this in the past.
The toons I end up playing for months, lvling up and stuff, are the ones I enjoy the most and keep me here.

With the xp curve and other stuff... its just too quick, for me anyways.
If I would have hit lvl 50 back when coh released, as fast as I do today, I would have stopped playing after a few months.

Instead I didnt hit 50 until a year and a half later. I leveled so, casual player but I LOVE that it took me that long now. It brought me all around the game and kept bringing me back cuz I "Had to learn the next skill/power" and "I have got to get high enough to try this".
It let left me anticipating all the fun stuff that was just out of reach and it made it so so so much sweeter to finally do.


Now its all too easy. Any new guy I make is... soon boring. I have a few toons I go out of my way to not level up. Which sucks and its not the same thing but i can tell its at least closer than to what it used to be for me than the alternative.


Anyways, personally hoping this is realized and addressed. If a game is too easy and quick, a person gets bored with it that much quicker.


Thats my rant. Got to get back to my computer (on a very old cruddy computer that cant do a single thing but minimal browsering and Word) and try and remove this really nasty virus that is kicking my tookus. Might not even be able to play the game for a while cuz of it.

What he is doing is not PVP.

He is tping the foe yes. But he never attacks them.

The only thing that actually does an attack in this is the drone.

The drone is an NPC.

An NPC is Envirnment. Hense, he is forcing someone into PVE when in a PVP zone.


Its just like if I was a lvl 50 hero in PI and I tp a lvl 1 hero into a mob of lvl 50s.

They should change the rules and make it known not to do that. Its rude, unjust, cowardly and honestly is wrong.

And I dont even PVP at all (well maybe once or twice a year for 30 minutes to an hour).

It's not PVP, its FORCED PvE.
