Lol'd hard at saying that less complaints = more changes. That's possibly the single most blatantly wrong thing I have ever heard from someone regarding this game.
-
Quote:You want to argue with that one? There are VERY few people who can deal with a build that is dramatically weaker than anything else in the AT, regardless of how much they like the concept. Claws would be much more popular if this weren't the case, I think, and Energy Melee much less so.Isn't it amazing how every different point of view is backed up by a huge, unprovable, silent majority?
@Grey Pilgrim: Actually I never said Dual Blades is underpowered. What I said is that it's an endurance chewer, it's much worse at low levels than other sets, and it works very poorly with Energy Armor. It was an anecdote to state that, even if you love the concept, most people have trouble having fun being intensely underpowered, especially when they've seen first hand what other combinations are capable of.
I personally think T9's are immensely important to a Blaster set, though I seem to be one of few in that regard. A nuke can instantly end a spawn without effort - with the obvious exception of EBs onwards - even in a solo scenario. In a team it's basically an emergency I Win button regardless of what the team should run into. A pseudonuke on the other hand can completely cripple every second spawn to the point where the Blaster should be able to solo the rest, and a team easily can. More useful, though I still don't discount Nukes.
HoB isn't an instant mob-clearer or -crippler, not is it an emergency effort, nor is it an immense raise to DPS like the other pseudonukes. Most powers that are skipped, are skipped because they're very situational. When a power that seems like it's meant to define the set is skipped purely because it's just inferior, well, that's a big problem, especially when you can just point to another set and say "What about that one?" -
People who say the set being fine underpowered obviously play the game very, very differently to most.
I RP regularly, I love my concepts, and I won't play anything if I don't love the concept.
But when Dual Blades first came out, I made a DB/Energy Brute, and honestly I have never had so little fun playing this game since. A single spawn would drain all of my endurance, provided I actually survived it, even after getting Stamina. I basically forgot the difficulties even existed since I dared not alter it from the base level. Lieutenants were as strong as Elite Bosses to me.
Much later down the track I had a character who, purely by chance, was thematically EM/WP. Brutes are now my favourite AT.
Yes, it's important that you have a character you like thematically and visually, and I LOVE Dual Pistols' animations. Seem to be one of few, oddly.
But as it is, DP is just... Trash. Comparing it to archery, fire, ice etc is basically comparing DB/Dark to EM/WP.
I'm fine with a mid-tier set - I thoroughly enjoy my AR/Fire Corruptor, in fact - but as others have said, DP isn't mid tier, it's competing for last place.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, Umbral's post on Page 2 with the breakdown of damage comparisons between crashless nukes and PBAoE vs Targetted AoE, AND average damage vs chance damage, complete with a suggested fix... Wow.
Devs, he's just done all of your work for you, tied up with a pretty bow that is a solution that requires nothing more on your part than a few keystrokes of editting to the numbers. That's frankly awesome and I think I'd just have to outright boycott you if you were honestly so foolish as to not take his advice. -
Because PvP isn't what I was thinking of when I imagined it.
What I was thinking of was being able to do short, quick teleports in between ranged attacks purely to look cool.
I added the bit about hovering, so that melee classes could have an alternative to getting Flight and Hover for aerial combat, as an afterthought, because it wouldn't mess with my idea and having a practical use other than just an awesomely stylish one may've attracted more support.
Obviously I was wrong since all's that's happened is a hundred people not reading my post and misunderstanding that THE HOVER PERIOD WAS INTENDED TO BE FULLY INTERRUPTABLE WITH ATTACKS OR OTHER TELEPORTS.
I don't understand. Really. Why go onto the forums and then not read the post you're replying to? -
We don't need more ATs, we have plenty. All the bases are covered.
We just need more, and more unique, powersets.
I'd like to see a low-damage mez set for melee sets that was mostly grapples (eg grabbing an enemy and gut-punching them for a few seconds) and throws etc.
Yes it would be immensely, unbelievably painful to design, but if you're going to work towards something ambitious it may as well be something good. -
I can't freaking believe I forgot about these.
The DG-X, from .hack//G.U. Redemption. -
Aerial combat is incredibly important at times. There are some enemies who always fly, some who often fly away, and in PvP it's even more prevalent because you don't have flying enemies generous enough to drop back down to butt you with their gun (cough Raiders).
I personally find it a bit weird that flight is the ONLY pool that allows you to compete vertically. You CAN hit things with superjump but you still need a way to get the enemy to come back down with you, which basically means taking Air Superiority. You may as well just take Hover instead.
So yes, I did, at least partially, think Combat Teleport should be an alternative to hover.
Also: "Recall Friend and TP Foe could be merged in TP Other?"
I personally think that's an effing brilliant idea. Would mean more people with Recall Friend for missioning, and more people with TP Foe for effective pulling. And I don't think anyone would say that's a bad thing. -
I could mention how Ninjas, in a lot of sources, draw their powers from magic (magic scrolls, cursed swords/armour, etc) or even tech ('techninjas,' see Fereydoon). I could talk about how their are thousands of different types of Natural power styles, whereas Tech only has a few different styles - eg supersuits, superweapons, minions, etc. I could mention that I'm well aware super boosters are only for niches and I don't MIND there being a Ninja booster, I just mind it representing the entire Natural origin, and the possibility of an extremely awesome Natural booster being eaten up by something I find freaking lame.
Or I could just point out that you're a furry and your argument is invalid.
To actually get back on topic, I never said anything about facial expressions. They're static, leave them the way they are, just change the poses.
Most players don't even show their characters' faces for the exact reason that they are static. Masks, helmets, hoods, auras, etc. If you're going to use static faces as a reason not to put in moods you may as well use it as a reason not to put in any emotes at all. -
I refuse to believe Natural, the single most broad origin, could be ruined so utterly by something as lame as ninjas.
-
Shamelessly ripped from Matrix Online (R.I.P).
Basically you have emotes, such as happy, depressed, formal, etc, which alter your character's basic poses until you set another one.
The default one could be 'Super' for instance since it's very macho, chest puffed out, etc.
It would alter your default idle animation, your walking animation, and running animation... And perhaps flight and jumping, though those are a bit tougher to think up new ideas for.
I'm not really expecting this to be put in. I'm already content as all hell with the new Walk emote/power. But this is just an idea on how you can build on it, when some of the devs have time left over for us heavy RPers.
Also imo it would be a great thing to shove into the Natural booster. ;D -
Interesting points, Samuel.
Interesting, but I disagree entirely.
It's just two different ideas though. You're treating it like combat jumping, whereas my idea for it really isn't designed for travel in ANY way.
Teleporting around like that WOULD be cool, but I want melee sets to be able to do it as well. Melee does make up approximately half of the game's archetypes, after all.
I think you might be onto something with that statement about locking teleport to a target... Perhaps, if you're targetting someone, it automatically teleports towards them (or right into their face), and if not you get the reticle?
Would be a bit harder to code than most powers, but I don't think by much. -
Can we go back to talking about how awesome Combat Teleport would be?
-
MM pets buff each other. Between Force Fields, Thug Leadership and regular Leadership, Bots/Thugs would have about 60% defence to everything.
Vet rewards would be rubbish. The vet rewards need to be something fun (eg reveal, costumes), not game changing.
And nobody should have their normal sets nerfed just because it's overpowered when someone who's been paying for 70 months uses it along side something it's not meant to be used with.
It's an awful idea. -
Because Kinetics/Cold Domination, or Robotics/Thugs, TOTALLY wouldn't be overpowered. <<
It's funny to think about but it shouldn't be in suggestions. The balance issues would be catastrophic. -
ITT: People complain about a team-based power in a team-based game.
Burn does a huge amount of damage if an enemy is Held or Immobilized, only marginally less than Incinerate, and it's an AoE. It only has a 25s recharge, even BEFORE enhancements, but the immobilize protection lasts for 100 seconds.
Additionally it's 100% fire damage, which sits nicely with Fiercy Embrace, which btw is a great power. Enhancements + Fiery Embrace + Build Up = >400% damage. You can almost hit the damage buff cap on your own as a Scrapper which absolutely no other set can do. Additionally Fiery Embrace lasts longer than Build Up, and while it has a longer recharge time, this means +recharge buffs have a much better effect on it. It's a spazzed out version of an already useful power which can stack on that original already useful power.
tl;dr: Both Fiery Embrace and Burn are amazing powers, even if one of them is very situational. -
Nice posts, both of you. Thought I'd reply even though this was intended as a hit and run.
-The hover could be interruptable. Again, I was intending it to be more designed to let you stay in the air for a couple of seconds to stay up with airborne targets.
-The suppressed speed of flight allows you to get in 2 or 3 attacks depending on how close you were/how fast the attacks were, and by then they'll be about 5-10 feet away... Hence the range. It would need some tweaking but basically it would be designed so melee sets could teleport behind an enemy who was just out of range of them, and then be in range. I don't know the melee range so I can't estimate numbers, but that's how it would be designed.
-Powers that require you to be on the ground? Same as flight. Either land, or go into a bird's eye view and target the ground... Or don't take it if you have ground-affecting powers. Since it's in the teleport pool, like Hover with Flight, it would be designed to occasionally be used in conjunction, or alternating with, with the regular Teleport.
-What about Warshades? o_O
Hope that cleared up some of the design theory behind it. -
I didn't even know you had to wear robes to use that belt.
Totally signing this one. Small change, great idea. -
This is just an idea I have, and would love to see, for the teleport pool.
I don't know whether this would replace an old power (Teleport Foe is obscenely unpopular now that it's useless in PvP) or just be among other fifth powers added to pools to mimic the Ancillary/Patron pools, but...
Basically, Combat Teleport.
-Very small range, approx 5-10 yards.
-Comparatively low (to regular teleport) end cost, about 1, maybe a little less.
-Very short cast time, 1 second or less.
-Small defence buff to mimic combat jumping/hover, ~5%, could last for anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute, unstackable obviously.
-Hovers for a lot longer than regular teleport, allowing it to be used similar to flight for meleeing flying enemies.
I mean, come on, bamfing is one of the coolest powers a superhero can have. Regular teleporting is fine and all, but teleporting around the place in between attacks is just win. Nightcrawler? Deadpool?
On top of definitely raising teleport up from 'least used travel power,' you can't deny it wouldn't be unbelievably cool.
And if you still don't agree?

Yeah. Now try to disagree. -
I give you, the two coolest pistols EVER created.
Well, technically three, but two of them are a very similar pair.
1: The Samaritan, from Hellboy.
2/3: The Left and Right Head of the Cerberus, from Gungrave.
Obviously I'm not saying to put those guns in directly, but something inspired from them would be very, amazingly cool.
And as much as I hate to give away my own character ideas... a combination of them, something blocky and ornate like the Twin Heads but metal and with a revolver chamber thrown in like the Samaritan... Would be the single coolest pistol ever made.
I'm trying not to hold my hopes high, but after implementing Walk you guys are in my good books. I promise, right here, if you put in anything like the above designs, I will on the spot buy a year's subscription. You can hold me to that, I'd even put my signature on it. -
As much as I'd like to run States' face into the ground, I think you're getting Freedom Phalanx and Freedom Corps confused.
But then again, we are fighting Recluse. States can't be far behind. Am I the only one scared crapless about fighting such an important character and, more importantly, what's going to happen since this will probably mean Recluse's death in storyline, too? Ghost will probably take over...
And excuse my ignorance to all you spandex-lovers (heroes), but who's Hammi?
EDIT: Doesn't ANYONE have an ETA for I7? -Sob-
