  1. Thanks everyone for the help suggestions... thankfully all has righted itself.

I rebooted my PC and tried again and it worked fine... I think my brain cells were not firing on all cylinders last night, partially due to the wine I had consumed and partially because I couldn't wait to try out the new Valkyrie costume set lol.

Ahh, you can't beat a drama a crisis that turns out to be nothing eh

The new cossie parts look fab... yet another excuse for me to feed my other 'holism' i.e. atlo-o-holism hee hee
  2. HELP!!!!!

I liked the idea of getting all those goodies right away (PC user) rather than having to wait, so I purchased the Mac Edition.

Now, when I try and launch the game I get an error message stating:

    "Error opening C:Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.EU.tmp

You may be out of disk space or you may be trying to install to a location where you have insufficient permissions."

Can someone please confirm if this is a result of applying the Mac edition to my PC account and if so, how the heck to I fix it so I can play?
  3. Has some dodgy Troll in Skyway sold you a bad batch of Superadine 3dent

Have you guys tried reading the Nvidia forums? People there seem satisfied the crash problems are pretty much cured, being caused by a mixture of improper voltage settings, RAM timings, and clean power supplies...

    [/ QUOTE ]

If that is the case then I wouldn't even know where to start to (a) find which particular issue may be affecting my setup (b) fix it.

Do you have any thoughts/advice for us FFM on how we might be able to check/fix this?

2nd day, and so far no crashes, (5 hours logged and no crashes is unusual).

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is looking hopeful, very hopeful.... I am keeping my fingers (and toes for good measure) crossed.

Thanks for the update, I look forward to hearing how you get on still in the next hours/days to come.

And 3rd day and two crashes in less than 3 hours

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh blast! I had high hopes this time around especially after your initial 5 hour run with no crashes.

If it's any consolation, your frustration at this is being shared by me and many many others... pity that collective frustration can't get things moving to finally fix this problem... clearly it's resolution is to a large extent out of hands and in the hands of..... well.... who's hands is it in???

I live in the hope (hopefully not vain hope) that this well get resolved sooner than later with a future driver release.

Meanwhile, frustration appears to be our lot in life both real and virtual

If this driver stops the random crashing for good (weekend stretch test pending) then me iz happy

Good luck this weekend testing these drivers and I, like so many others, look forward to hearing your report on them, good or bad.

    game crashes

Oh yes, and my ISP is Virginmedia Broadband Size XL (20mb)
  9. ShaolinMaster

    game crashes

I too am suffering like oh so many with random game crashes.

I would say that I am averaging 8 crashes out of every 10 logons with game sessions between an hour and 3 hours.

It's very VERY FRUSTRATING, particularly as I have recently bought a brand spanking new PC with lots of bells and whistles.

    My spec is:

    - Windows Vista 64-bit Ultimate
    - Intel Quad Core Extreme (4 × 3ghz)
    - 4GB Corsair XMS2 RAM (800mhz)
    - Primary HDD 640GB (7200 rpm)
    - Secondary HDD (for locating games) 150GB Raptor (10000 rpm)
    - NVidia GTX280 1024MB
    - Asus Striker II Formula motherboard

I originally started off with the 175.19 drivers and crashed so updated to 177.41 and crashed still, tried the 177.83 and still crashed!

After taking advice I had seen from Floating Fat Man (again I thank you FFM for your great contribution on this Forum, we are lucky to have helpful folk like you to help and guide us) on another forum string, I got hold of a copy of Driver Cleaner (I actually got the latest version which was only $9, so around £6) and followed instructions to completely remove drivers before installing each subsequent driver.

I have reverted back to the 177.41 drivers as they seem as good or rather AS BAD as any others but are at least the latest drivers being touted "officially" on NVidia's site for my GTX280.

I am rapidly losing patience with this problem and am close to looking for another MMO to play in the hopes I don't get the same poor experience I am currently getting with COH/V.
  10. Updated my graphics card drivers (there was a later version available - 7.15.11.7519 16/05/2008), however, this hasn't resolved the issue.

Will summon up the will to uninstall game from SSD and re-install to HDD, however, this is really making me not want to play COX right now.

I also note that someone else has a thread in the forum with problems related to graphics card.

I am also curious how Stasisesque is getting on as they reported the same game crash as me?

Safe mode merely resets the video settings to all minimum.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ahhh, right... that would seem to imply then that my issue may well be Graphics card based?

I may try downloading latest drivers from Nvidia site, even though I suspect I already have the latest drivers... I only had the new PC delivered last Saturday and it was built 3 days prior to that.

By the way, thanks very much for your help on this FFM, it is very much appreciated, you do seem to be somewhat of an oracle/font of all knowledge with COX, they should give you a special in-game badge/award

It's obviously rubbish! you should give it to me

    Nice try Sapphic_Neko lol
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Can you try relocating it to the actual HD, to elimate the SSD's access times as a possible cause of crashes.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I may have a go at this later in the week. The game will play once I load it, it's just that it crashes when I exit which is a pain, but not prohibitive.

    [ QUOTE ]
This is a twin GPU card, running SLi natively. CoH does have known issues with SLi configurations, can you disable one of the GPU's?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I don't know how I would go about disabling one of the GPU's but to be honest (or indeed if this is possible with this card). If I can and if that's what I have to do to play the game without it crashing on exit then I am inclined to switch to other MMO games and come back to COH when they get things sorted for SLI configurations, it's not like SLI is new these days!

Just out of curiosity, I tried booting the game with Safe Mode ticked and it exited ok without crashing. What exactly is Safe Mode? I didn't go all the way into the game in this mode as I could see that the video settings had clearly been reduced from my usual settings.
  14. Hi FFM :-)

Well, just got a new PC, details below:

    1. Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit (service pack 1)
    2. Nvidia 9800 GX2
    3. Driver Version 7.15.11.7516 (02/05/2008)
    4. Intel Quad Core CPU Q9450 (4 × 2.66Ghz), 8GB Ram, 64-bit OS, Drive 1 - (OS etc installed here) 640GB 7200rpm HDD, Drive 2 - (this is where the game is installed to) 32GB SSD
    5. Single graphic card solution
    6. Not running Windowsblinds

Hope that's enough info, let me know if you need anything more?
  15. Once last night and everytime today (5 times in total) whenever I exit the game it hangs.

This can be either from quitting to desktop after the timer hits zero or if I press the "exit now" button.

I have just tried launching the game and it even crashes if I just exit from the logon screen (i.e. not actually selecting a server or indeed putting in my password).

I can quit to login screen, however, if I then select exit from the login screen the game hangs again.

Is anyone else getting similar problems?
  16. Awwww, thanks Strikey :-) finally after 27 months I have a 50 hero..... and many many alts have lived and died to get me there lol ;-)

That's the name of the game though... I just can't stop making my alts and now I can add 2 more Archetypes to my ever expanding band of heroes and villains.
