  1. I've always been partial to Anarchy Online's "froobs", a portmanteau of free and noobs. My character still has a froob t-shirt that the devs actually put into one of the first dungeons in the game. AO was one of the first MMORPGs to go free, and they're still one of the best when it comes to being froob-friendly and not totally crippling a free player to try to wring cash out of them. LOTRO has also been fantastic about handling free players, CoX could really learn a lot from how well they transitioned to a subscription-free service.
  2. Dwarves have a very satisfying 'crunch' when they pound on someone. It takes some work to make them really dish the damage, however, as they were made to be more tanky then scrappy. But with a lot of slots and use of buffs in human form to supplement them, they will be respectable.
  3. I've just returned to CoH after a couple of years away, and discovered that my warshade has Stealth and Combat Jumping trained. I have absolutely no recollection as to why. The only thing that I can think of that makes any sense is that I picked those powers solely to put unique IOs on for some sort of buff. Since I'm playing tri-form, I don't have a whole lot of need for powers that only work in human form, so perhaps I was thinking that I could slot something useful into those two that couldn't be slotted in the other power options for that level.

But mostly I'm confused. I don't want to say that past-me was insane, but I'm having a hard time finding my train of thought. If anyone has any insight on just what I may have been thinking, I'd sure love to hear it!

  4. Who is Skip Jones? What kind of superhero name is Skip? Where's his costume? And what is that thing on his head?

Well, Mister Jones serves as a cautionary tale to the people of Paragon, specifically the tale about not touching strange things you find lying around on the street. Stumbling across that godawful helmet in an alley after a night of somewhat spirited drinking with his friends, he believed that it would be amusing for all if he put it on his head. It didn't precisely work out as he'd imagined. Imbued with the power of mighty Kheldians of ages past, the helmet bestowed upon Mister Jones the abilities of a warshade.

This is not in fact something that he really desired. He's somewhat stuck with the atrocious thing, however, as he only has powers while wearing it. And before any smart folks in the audience suggest that he simply take it off and abandon superheroing, it should be mentioned that donning the helmet had a permanent side-effect:

Yeah. So. Not exactly holding down a day job with that face, so it's superhero or nothing now. He was never all that enamored with superheros bouncing all around the city using peoples' cars as projectile weapons with the attendant effect on his auto insurance rates. Also, the somewhat alarming nature of his helmet led many to assume that he was a villain and attack him on sight, so he rather grimly resolved to have nothing to do with the whole superhero culture. He never took a nickname, and since his Kheldian powers shield him from danger better than any spandex, he also never wore any 'silly costumes', sticking to the reliability of denim and sneakers.

For his efforts in resisting the Rikti invasion, fighting aliens being something of a specialty of his, the Vanguard rewarded him with a suit of their armor, in 'dignified Warshade colors'.

He... only wears it to Vanguard parties, to avoid hurting their feelings.
  5. I've just reactivated after a couple of years and opened the costume store on one of my characters, only to find everything amiss. Pieces of her costume are just plain missing from her in the store view, and the store's trying to charge over a million inf to apply the 'changes' when nothing has changed, aside from the missing stuff. I can't even save her current costume to keep as a baseline! Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
  6. The database for Sherk's builder seems waaaaaaaaay out of date, though; those numbers look like they're from three issues back. Is there a more up to date power database available?
  7. Just one question. My biggest concern is of deaths creating turmoil in teams on missions, is the death part a non-factor in mission experience now as well as the distance? If so, then I've no problem with this system. Just about any outdoor fight is sure to be over in less than a minute, so someone who dies right at the start won't lose out on huge swaths of experience, unlike a big AV fight in a taskforce.
