We know that exposure to yellow sunlight grants him and other Kryptonians these powers, and that there is no sign of their physiology becoming un-Kryptonian, ergo we can deduce it's as natural as, as Sam put it, gaining nourishment from food.

How old is Franklin Richards?
Answer that and this whole issue becomes moot. -
The fellow I was directing my rebuttal to was trying to say the entire Kryptonian species had been Scientifically transformed by their star becoming a red giant. In other words, he's calling evolution a Science origin.

Quote:Tacoma?I've mentioned before how much a city I live near resembles Kings Row in its downtown. The buildings here aren't quite as tall, topping out around 10 stories or so only, but otherwise it's not far off. There's no inspiration there either way really, it's just that both areas happen to be ex-industrial areas that are now just run-down, with a bit of revitalization here and there.

Quote:That wasn't the argument.i'm pretty sure the higher energy output of yellow suns effectively supercharging Kryptonian physiology adapted to using the lower energy from a red sun has been canon in the past if it isn't now. Of course most of the time the reasons and details are just handwaved and sidestepped unless a given writer feels like making it a plot point.

Quote:Drugs produce chemical changes in the body.Hourman takes a Drug to have superpowers that still be Science there nothing saying science is forever, either works.
Quote:There is no clear cause and effect for the Yellow sun, why Superman's body reacts they way it does to my knowledge. For all we knoe it could be the result of some science adption that Kyrptonians need to have when their sun, change from one colour to another. it even possible that it actaully and Adptation created from when their star became a red Giant or something. -
Quote:I don't think you're grasping the difference in CHEMICAL CHANGE and NATURAL BODILY REACTION.I know that. What I'm asking is why the duration of the effect changes whether it's science or natural. If a human is exposed to deadly radiation that gives them superpowers forever, it's science, but if a human is exposed to deadly radiation that gives them powers as long as they're in the beam, that's natural? The origin story itself is what should matter, now how long they keep the powers for. Either way, it's deadly radiation, drugs, sunlight, or crazy gas giving them the powers. What does it matter how long it's for?
And what if it gives them powers for 30 years and then stops? Science or natural?Five years? 30 minutes? 18 seconds? Where's the cutoff?

If you've been reading at all, Superman needs constant exposure to yellow sunlight. He loses his powers after he's been away from a yellow sun for some time. Instantly if he encounters a red sun.

Quote:Hulk needs constant contact with Gamma Rays to maintain his powers? Since when? That's the head-scratcher though. In theory if there was some gas on a far away planet that gave humans super strength, would that be natural? I mean ANY human that gets exposed to science-gas gets superpowers. So that's natural? Is Hulk natural cause you could take any human and expose them to that radiation and they'd gain powers?
Maybe I should elaborate this. Most Science origins originate from strange laboratory experiments or accidents or weird chemicals. You have a normal dude who's suddenly imbued with superpowers for the rest of his life. The effects can be entirely random from what I've seen. There've even been redshirts who've died from such things.
Not so with Superman. Superman, is a Kryptonian, and Kryptonians have this weird physiology that is affected in specific ways when encountering the rays of a yellow sun. It happens to ALL of them. and they ALL get the SAME powers. They are all affected by Kryptonite in the same ways. It is a very Natural aspect of their species.
Now this gas of yours, do the humans lose their powers once they return to Earth, or do they retain them? If they lose them, then it's just the Natural way a human body reacts to the gas. If they retain them, however, they are irrevocably transformed and it is indeed a Science origin. -
And who said Demon summoning couldn't be Tech origin?

Quote:Ah, but it's because of his Natural Kryptonian physiology that his cells react to yellow sunlight as such. If you've followed the numerous stories of Superman throughout the ages you'd know that once he comes in contact with red sunlight, he immediately begins to lose his powers.I would actually consider Superman's powers Science. If he was on his home planet with everything normal and "natural," he'd have no powers. It's our sun that gives him his abilities. It'd be like if humans went to some distant planet and the gasses in the air gave them super strength. I wouldn't consider that Natural. He doesn't just have his powers, and he didn't train for them. Some outside source reacts with him and gives him those powers.
I always figured that the science origin permanently imbued you with powers, such in the case of Spider-Man or the Fantastic 4. Spidey doesn't need continued bites from radioactive spiders and the FF doesn't need continued exposure from cosmic rays to maintain their powers. -
Walk turns off powers. I don't think what you experienced is unusual at all.

Ninja Run has perfected my travel-powerless concept character. I felt that none of the travel powers had been appropriate for said character, but Ninja Run finishes the sculpture. I love it.

I'm just kicking myself that I didn't make a formal bet with you and having money involved. I would have won.

5:46 PST and still down. That's two hours and one minute.
-
Hm... 5:26 PST.... I'd say it looks like a literal two hours so far, Tex.
-
The post concerning the emergency maintenance said it'd take two hours.
-
Well, looks like some of us are going to have to wait before getting to play today....

Personally, I'm not really concerned as my computer is very ... ahem ... high end. It was designed for heavy graphics media, thus Ultra Mode should feel right at home. I fully expect my computer to exceed the system requirements.
