Quote:i agree with Phil's (err, Westley's) post. i will add that i never found Repulsion Field very useful on my Force Field or Kinetics characters. i also like the way Dark Pit and Repulsion Bomb can stack their stuns. i'd say stay with the alt as is. If you really want to try a different secondary with Force Fields you can always make another alt. What Fulmens said.
Also, I'd suggest making full use out of power color customization.... Dark Blasts look REALLY cool in colors other than black!
Sure it's a LITTLE bit redundant once you've reached the "soft-cap" of defense... but only for the TEAM. You still don't have as much defense as the rest of your teammates unless you IO out. So the Dark Blasts help YOU keep alive a lot longer too!
Also, depending on your playstyle, you might end up wanting to respec out of either Force Bubble or Repulsion Field... if you find yourself using one more often than the other or find one never being used at all... I'd say respec it out for something you'd get more use out of... like another blast or perhaps another Leadership power. -
Quote:My thoughts:With the dwindling numbers of players and lack of teams available maybe those sitting around in the studios should merge their servers in to 1.
Yes, you may lose your toon name.. but teaming would be a LOT better.
Your thoughts...
"Is he going to ever get around to asking a question?"
"He is aware that we've been getting 6 free transfer tokens a week for the entire month, right?"
"i guess a low post count isn't the sign of someone who thinks long and deeply about a subject before posting, is it?"
"Where is he that he's been seeing such dwindling numbers, and how, exactly, has he been collecting his data? (There was the usual last quarter slowdown that seems to have been exacrbated somewhat by the economy, but recently i've seen more people on weekends.)"
"So, a thought-provoking post that requires serious consideration... i'm going to be kept Waiting for Godot this time, aren't i?"
Final thought: "How many ghosts would a Ghost Widow chuck if a Ghost Widow could chuck ghosts?" -
Quote:Hey, some of my ancestors were in the Americas for thousands of years, but the prevailing theory is that they all originally started somewhere on the African continent.Um...yeah... well, there are actually people that have come to the Americas (some of them becoming American citizens) from countries all over the planet and not just from Western and Southern-western Europe - including some of my ancestors.
Anyway, i sent Avatea a PM regarding the localisation issue and this thread, but if it is just a case of ongoing technical issues with the site then there may be nothing to do but wait for things to get fixed. -
Quote:Well, actually i hadn't, but i've since corrected that oversight. Amusingly i have no personal stake in this issue, i'm just acting on a random impulse to help.I'm guessing you have already PMed Avatea about this problem. I figure she's the one who can bring this up to the silly bunts who came up with the redirector with no means of overriding it.

Quote:True, but i think just seeing what i get at that level will be interesting. Some fun procs, and not a huge pool in that range. As far as powers go, well if it's available as an add-on or vet reward i have it.That won't take long - at level 10, you'll have 7 powers chosen. At 12, you have 8. Plus slots... at level 10, that's 8 extra slots. At 12, that's 10 slots. For a total of 15 slots at 10, or 18 slots at 12. Plus your inherent powers, which I don't know what game editions or add-ons you've purchased, or vet powers you've got, so I'm not guessing there. Minimum of 3 (sprint, brawl, rest). Still pitifully few slots, so you'll need relatively few merits/tickets overall.

Eh, i just made the Perez Park Predator, a rad/sonic, and i will be leveling him up to 10-12 and then staying there, but my intention is mostly hunt in PP and occasionally run a Posi or other missions when not hunting the critters of the park. However, my goal is to slot him up with lowbie IO sets using the merits from TF's and AE rolls until he's fully slotted.

Quote:That's a point. The sacrifice of "300 Spartans, 700 Thespians, 400 Thebans and perhaps a few hundred others, the vast majority of whom were killed" did delay the Persians for a while; buying the rest of the Greeks some time to withdraw. Even if all it did was delay the Persian invasion for a short time it is still used as an example of the advantages of training, equipment, and good use of terrain as force multipliers and has become a symbol of courage against overwhelming odds.I think Thermopylae vindicates my opinion that a smaller group of highly trained, specialized soldiers trumps a larger host of lesser-trained individuals.

Quote:Honestly i didn't notice any major difference between Dark/Ice and Dark/Dark or Dark/Rad. Dark Miasma can be fairly endurance heavy, but then it's also very powerful for what you get from using that endurance, so i tend not to spam every power in my arsenal unless they're all needed since using a few is usually enough. How was the end use on that combo? I alternate between looking at Dark/Ice in awe of the possibilities or in fear of the potential endurance use.
The fact that Ice Storm apparently does Blaster level damage does help with AoE end usage since you get more damage per endurance than with most other Defender AoE attacks. -
Quote:My guess is a corrupted texture, perhaps more than one, especially if you're only seeing it on a couple pieces and very recently.I took this picture, and its a new development. Only the last couple missions has this weird color pattern appeared, its also on Lost Television Hats. Any ideas?

i'd suggest clicking the "Verify All Files" button on the updater the next time you go to run it and seeing if it fixes anything.
Possibly related: did you update your display drivers recently? -
Quote:Granted i've only gotten two of my VEATs to 50 so far, but i would agree with you on the difficulty of the VEAT arcs. Even calling them arcs seems a bit of an overstatement. Mini-arcs?Uh... this isn't a VEAT arc, and I don't think many people would classify any of the VEAT arcs as hard.
Coincidentally, my Flying Crab 'O' Doom just got this mission from Mako last night, and i was considering running it later. -

As per this thread started by Samuel_Tow, the City of Heroes website is automatically redirecting people who go to it based on the location of their IP address. This is making it very hard for EU players who use the US servers to access the correct site, and i would imagine is also extremely inconvenient for anyone from the Americas playing CoX while in the EU. The newly implemented system apparently automatically redirects you to the EU site any time you try to access the US website.
As Sam puts it:Quote:OK, OK... I'll do my best to breathe deep and not use the kind of language that will get me banned off the forum for all times, and just restrict myself to exclaiming: This blows!
Let me explain. I live in Europe, but I've been a subscriber to City of Heroes since before there was an EU version, so I never switched over. As such, I still play the US version of the game, and would very much like to be routed to the US versions of sites pertaining to the game. Now, it's bad enough that the PlayNC store insists on routing me to the EU store every time, constantly trying to trick me into buying EU booster packs that won't work for my game. That I can deal with, since they're labelled as So and So (Europe) and a "US version also available) link in fine print still exists. It's annoying, it's insulting, but at least it's manageable.
But what the HELL happened to the main City of Heroes site? Why the FFF does it forcibly redirect me to the European version of the site? Yes, it has the little flags up top, but they DO NOTHING! I knew it there was something odd about it today, but I didn't think much of it. Well, today, I can't connect to City of Heroes (likely a connection problem) and I go to check server status. I go to News -> Server status and... What the hell?!? Defiant? Zukunft? Vigilance? What the... I don't care about these servers! I CAN'T PLAY on these servers, why the HELL would I care if they're up or down? I want to know whether Victory and Pinnacle are up or down, but I can't! Only then does it dawn on me what site I'm actually looking at: eu.cityofheroes.com. What? No! That's not what I want! So I do the obvious and go to www.cityofheroes.com, but in the back of my head, I know what's going to happen. And it does. As soon as I hit enter, the URL shifts to eu.cityofheroes.com and it loads the EU site again. Luckily, we only have one set of forms now, or it would have probably shunted me over the the EU boards to.
Well go to hell! I HATE HATE HATE localisation of sites! HATE it like you wouldn't believe! I don't CARE about local variants of the services I'm ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR! And I really, REALLY do not enjoy being locked away from sites just because a crappy localised version of it exists, especially when it GOD DAMN DOESN'T HAVE WHAT I WANT!
Argh!!!
Look, at this point, I'm willing to cheat. I'm about ready to flip PlayNC a birdie and just somehow cheat my way into the site for the game I FRIKKIN' OWN! Is there something I can change about my settings, like my location in Regional and Language settings or some such that would make me appear to be in the US? Is there some way I can make an exception for a particular site? I pay real money for this game each month, and I DO NOT APPRECIATE being routed to sites that ARE NOT FOR MY GAME! Is there anything, ANYTHING I can do to fix this? -
Quote:My Dark/Ice was effective and pretty hard-hitting all the way to 50. Blaster level rain damage and the least-resisted damage type in the game helped a bit.I don't know about anyone else, Harkness, but I stopped trying to understand you after you said .
There's only one power in the set i would consider unusually slow: Bitter Freeze Ray. It's also the one power i will never take again after having it for about 5 hours of play time before i respecced it out. -
Quote:Higher def for the individual bubbles? Not if they're 3-slotted with SO's at either level. More powers that give +Def are available, true.Sorry to be so rude but a lvl 8 FF'er, even with lvl 10 SOs, is not going to help a team nearly as well as a lvl 50 could.
Higher def % not to mention the opportunity to dip into the medicine pool.
Not that my FF Defender ever took the medicine pool anyway.
So, checking names now. Might amuse myself by making a resident of Perez Park as well if the name is open and i can find the slot. -
It sounds like you outleveled him, and once you do he won't give you any more missions unless they are part of an already started arc. It's possible that the mission is available through Ouroboros, but i'm not sure.

Well i've played four Dark Miasma Defenders to at least 40, and two of those to 50.
My first was my second character to hit 50: a D3+Psy. Fun on the way up, but largely retired.
Then a Dark/Rad and a Dark/Archery. Both are stalled around the early 40's, but i'll probably pick them up again another time.
My most recent was a Dark/Ice that i got to 50 and IO'ed out with everything except purples, though i may get one or two sets of those as well sometime. My Dark/Ice was my first alt to break 1.5 billion influence. Mostly by crafting and selling IO drops and rolls.
All the sets i've tried so far work well in one way or another with Dark Miasma, but then it's a very strong and flexible set.
My next Dark Miasma user will probably be a Sonic/Dark Corruptor, which will be a break from my habit of playing Dark Defenders. -
Quote:He did say juicy, not meaty, and the juice was in a handy eyedropper.Um...
Sure that's the right link? Other than naming some names, there's roughly as much juicy info there as water in the Gobi.
Hey, it would have to prettier than the image they supplied with the blurb. Wow, the faces of the two hovering figures are flat and ugly. Atlas' Death Star was almost more appealing. Maybe it was just something about how the image is slightly distorted. -
If it's a Carnie party nothing could go wrong, but things can go so terribly, terribly right. Now i just have to decide which one to show up at, the one in Cap or the one in Steel.
-
Interesting. So, perhaps, purple names are for in-game event coordinators/hosts?

I C wut U did there
Or citizens of Alaska. Thank goodness most Alaskan cities (towns*) have a low enough street crime rate that you don't have to worry too much about getting mugged on your way to the meth lab.
*When your entire state has a lower population than many major cities it's a little harder to justify calling any of your your population centers 'cities'. -
Quote:Ah, yeah i can see that. Well, FWIW i already stated that i generally limit my buffing to those that appear to have a need for it, and generally do it for much lower level characters. Even then it's more likely to be a fortune i toss on them since most of my support characters tend to be debuff or toggle buff based.I have a macro on all my characters that sends "please don't do that" to local. I use it whenever someone buffs me at random.
Sometimes i just drop useful seeming inspirations on a character as i go by. That way they can use them or delete them as they see fit.
When a level 3 Tanker looks like he's new to the game and close to being beat up by a bunch of Hellions or the like i am likely to toss Infrigidate on the toughest mob or hit them all with Shiver. So some times i'm also guilty of drive-by debuffing. Generally only debuffs that do no damage. -
