Quote:Freedom and Virtue are the most populated.I meant in general. Not what servers are currently the most populated. Meaning, if they were ranked by most members per server what would the top five be.
The rest have tended to swap places over time, so there is no definitive answer beyond those two. Infinity almost always ranks in the top five, and a couple others are usually never in the top five, but otherwise there really is no better answer to your question.
Edit: Stalemate makes a good point as well. Regardless of what server you're on joining that server's global channels makes teaming much easier. You could be playing on the lowest population server and usually find a team faster by asking that server's global teaming channel(s) than on the most populated server without joining the channels. -
Quote:This. When i picked up my Collectors Edition it took me a while to locate the code as well. Best hidden CoH code ever.Yea, it took me a sec to find the right code myself when I got my box. The code you're looking for (if you haven't found it by now) is on the inside cover of the 'quick reference card' that comes with the game.
It'll show up as 'retail' on your account by the way. Or it does for me at least. -
Quote:This.I remember when you took over responsibility for Mid's, and looking back, I'd have to say that you've done one heck of a job.
Thank you very much from all my friends and I, who, I can tell you spend nearly as many hours in Mid's as they do in the game--sometimes both are up simultaneously.
Best of luck to you, and we appreciate the hard work you've put into it so people like me can have their gaming experience enhanced.
"Alien"
Thank you Ston3y.
Mids' has been a huge help in designing builds over the years, and i really appreciate all the work put into it by you and everyone else involved. It really says something about that quality of the community that a free utility like Mids' exists at all. -
Quote:Ah, that explains why the box and Newegg specs emphasize the "Exclusive 5.8oz Copper Rod Glaciator+ 12°C Cooler than Generic HD 4870"...The HD 4870 is a bit faster than HD 5770. It's also hotter and uses more power.
The 4870 is inexpensive now because the HD 58xx series melts it's face off faster than a Nazi trying to call God so nobody makes it anymore and everyone is trying to sell off their remaining inventory, cheap. The downside as je_saist points out is it's only a Dx10.1/OGL 3 card and not the new hot and sexy Dx11/OGL 4.
So, for price and performance, the HD 4870 beats the HD 5770. Downside is lack of Dx11 support and vanishing inventory.
Also, i think i'll not be overclocking the card. -
Hey! i had to wait over 5 minutes to log into Virtue earlier!
i browsed forums, read messages and when i saw the character select pop up in the background i started playing.
That's not right!
What i really don't understand is why the age of a game is relevant to server capacity. It's not like the servers are some sort of plant that grows and increases capacity as time goes by. Yes, they've upgraded the servers several times, but all servers have limits on how many people can access at once... Hell, the Devs even added a queue system so that you don't end up refreshing server list over and over to see if it'll let you log onto your server of choice.
Maybe the OP thinks that the standard MMO budget has them buying more server racks every year that then go into storage until there's an increase in server demand. Then the Devs wander into the cavernous warehouse that holds row upon row of idle server racks and then they drag out as many as are needed and plug them in, whereupon the miraculous AIs that live in the servers instantly integrate the new racks into the server architecture. An infinitely scalable server architecture that can also generate new ports and net connections through the reality warping powers of the transcendent server AIs.
Or maybe the OP just has a deficit of patience and critical thinking skills, and a bit too much petulance and sense of entitlement.
Personally i prefer the godlike server AI scenario. -

Quote:Exactly. Empathy isn't as good as some sets for buffing large teams, but in a duo it makes your friend's character into a god.Who said anything about a Healbot? He said he like Empahty because of Fortitude and Adrenalin Boost which are great buffs. Fortitude gives you +defense, +Dam, and +tohit. Adrenalin boost gives you +100% recharge! If I'm playing a Regen I would like a Emp over a FF because of Adrenalin Boost and Fortitude. Fort doesn't give as much +defense as FF but I would like the +recharge and the +Recovery more for my Regen.
Personally i would suggest an Empathy/Sonic with Leadership in a duo. -

Thanks for the info. CoH is not the only game i play, but it's the most graphically demanding, so for now i'll stay with the 5770. If i do find myself wanting the extra graphical goodness i'll drop the 5770 into the old box and get whatever is comparable to the 4870 at that point.
Mmmm, now to set it up for dual boot and see about getting CoH to run in Linux for comparison purposes. -
A question for the system builders out there.
i picked up an ASUS Radeon HD 4870 for $99.99 after rebate, but then i took a look at the XFX HD 5770 that Father Xmas suggests for his $750 rig that costs $144.99 after rebate.
Now the rest of the system is running Windows 7 64bit on an i5-750 with 4 gigs of DDR3-1600 RAM, so will the difference in visuals and framerate be significant between the two cards?
Debating whether i want to spend the additional $45 to get the 5770... -
Quote:Yup. Of course even before the base speed increase it only took one SO to get within a couple mph of the hard cap, so it's not (very/at all) noticeable at the higher levels if you have Fly slotted at all. It does make the temp powers and pre-22 Fly faster, which is pretty nice.As far as I know, yes. It only takes 1 Flight Speed SO to effectively cap it. (I believe there's some wiggle room, but it's not that big.)
Since Hover has the same hard cap as Fly it was impossible to reach the hard cap using Hover by slotting alone, so the increase in base speed makes even fully slotted Hover faster. Since i have a few alts that use Hover for mobility in combat this is a nice bonus. -
Quote:i was thinking this might work. i frequently summon the buff pet while resting by queuing it up while Rest activates, so i thought the same would work with SP. Now to pick up my Collector's Edition and head home to try it.I was able to activate Rest then Shadowy Presence, and they worked together.

Quote:Eh, it's not like you and O_I actually care if the game succeeds or fails, you just want attention and to piss people off. Of course if you stay around long enough the game will eventually be shut down, and then you can boast how you were right all along even if it happens six years from now.We ?
I was pointing out that some people have an incredible ability to ignore the elephant in the room. Whats more they think if they talk about how great the furniture is no one else will notice.
Other people who have long ranted on how population decline isn't happening and the people that complain about it aren't doing things right seem to be offended by reality.
Seriously, it's not like you do anything but try to antagonize others. Do you have any solutions or suggestions to offer that aren't really ploys aimed at antagonizing and insulting others? i'm somewhat puzzled by people who continue subscribing to a game while constantly whining about how much the game sucks, ******** that anyone who actually enjoys the game is a mindless fanboi, and crying that it's d00med.
Yeah, we get it by now. Some of you have been posting how the game is failing and the end is here for over four years now. It's doomed and eventually, someday, you'll get to stand over the ashes and cackle how you were right all along. In the meantime you'll do as much as possible to convince others that the game is about to die and irritate those who actually enjoy playing. After all, it might speed up the end so you can boast about how right you were. -
You do realize that many manufacturers do exactly this with many retailers, yes? To get recognition/signage/preferential treatment as an official retailer retail outlets frequently agree to carry specific products and accessories from a manufacturer. Manufacturers like Hewlett Packard will even mandate what the prices will be.

Quote:i've been playing several alts on Freedom lately. i'm occasionally tempted to use the Freedumb spelling after encountering a sufficiently excessive number of Empaths with the Medicine pool, people who won't start missions without a tank, healer and full team, and people who apparently can't type words with more than four letters. On the plus side they generally even spell the expected four letter words inconsistently and incorrectly. Most of the time they're spelled with three letters.Lol the term "freedumb" is typically only used by ignorant people that have no clue what they are talking about or people jealous and bitter because they think their server is "dead" when in reality it's not.
i've also found a bunch of good players as well, but there's more noise compared to the signal most times. -
Quote:Official retailer implies a greater level of involvement than some random company ordering a bunch of time cards from the NCsoft store. At least it does to me. It would be reasonable for an official retailer to be expected to promote the company's products, not offer less than shady third party sites. Not trying to sound like a jerk but how can NCSoft force a third party business to offer/carry their products?
Can people in South America use Paypal to purchase stuff from the NCsoft store, or are all transactions from that area blocked? -
Quote:Uhm... 0.oMartial Arts: Wouldn't mind a few punches or something in there with all the kicks. Ideally, you'd be able to pick some punches and some kicks.
Well if power customization ever gets added to the game i'm sure Martial Arts will get some punching style alternate animations. i wonder how long we'll have to wait for that to happen...

Quote:True. If the hunt is area specific then only mobs in that area count.Unless it's "defeat [number] of [enemy] in [zone/area/district]" otherwise qualifying critters in the instanced maps would not count, as they are not in the correct location. (even if the mission door is within the specified area)
So, other than that... And at least every mob of the correct type in the correct area counts. No random roll to see if it was valid. -
Also, if a contact gives you a hunt mission (Defeat 10 X) enemies of that type defeated in regular missions count towards the hunt total.
Luckily we have no "Go defeat wild boars until you have 20 wild boar heads" missions requiring a specific item to drop from the defeated enemy. (And of course it usually seems that 70% of boars run around without heads.) The "Defeat [number] of [Enemy]" is as close as CoX gets to that, and they're usually avoidable. -
FYI most of Dark Armor's toggles already have a "No fade or pulse" option which basically suppresses all the toggles' visual effects.

Quote:*sigh*This is an official response from one of the representatives of LEVELUP Games, the official retailer of City of Heroes on the South America:
QUOTE:
We only commercialize the game-time cards.
FINISH QUOTE.
That means everyone here that wants to play GR must risk thenselves and use a proxy server to buy the expansion. Or pray for the IP-regional block to be disabled.
*palmface*
*headdesk*
It would be nice if NCsoft took notice of this and did something to correct it. -
Quote:i know what you mean. It's going along as a perfectly normal sentence and then suddenly it's all hey sailor, want some bouncy bouncy?Sorry, the whole "ending a sentence in a proposition" thing irritates my inner grammar Nazi
Alternate animations/effects requests:
Integration and Tough: Non Tarzan versions.
Rage: Tarzan or Roar version.
Hasten: Tintable at the least. My aquatic themed Cold/Thorny Dom will not use fiery hands power. Tinting it so that it can pass for roiling/boiling blue-green energy would be nice.
Fiery and Ice melee: Weaponless versions of the current weapon animations and beweaponed versions of the currently weaponless.
Medicine: Something not using a tricorder.
Eviscerate and Ripper: Non-flipping animations.
Jump Kick: Something that resembles the power's name. Failing that i'd take waggling my butt at the enemy i'm attacking as an equally appropriate and impressive alternate animation.
Impale: Something a bit less like a baseball pitch.
Kheldians: Tintable powers and forms even if they're limited to colors within the blue-white and purple-red portions of the spectrum.
Flight: Reworking the flight poses as alternate animations would be awesomesauce. Adding hover disk/rock slab/surf board and sky surfing alternate animations would be nice. (Back shortly before Prestige Power Slide was added to the game my flying Blaster used to use the Power Slide animation while flying for a few seconds after zoning. It looked pretty cool.)
i'm sure there's more if i think a bit, but these are what come to mind as what i want most. -
Quote:Well, anyone with the latter name could only benefit from not ducking.I'm going with the 8 syllable thing myself.
I tried to start a federally-based superhero game once, where I rationalized the naming convention as "callsigns". I told my players "Try to think of something that you could shout across a crowded barfight. " I then added the "$name, duck!" suggestion. For instance:
RIGHT: "Iceman, duck!"
ALSO RIGHT: "Boltcutter, duck!"
WRONG: "Apocalyptic Drooling Spawn of The Great Iguana, duck!" -
