Quote:NOOOOOOOO!Pity... I had a list of approximately forty videos for COH I wanted to make, but I guess now they will never exist beyond my own imagination, since I'm obviously neither wanted nor needed here.
Oh, well.
Bye.

Quote:Eh, my more formative linguistic years were in the Northeastern US, mostly in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey (more the agrarian Western part rather than the Eastern "Joisey" regionYou explanation makes a great deal of sense, the idea that you would do so, however does not...
(I live near Boston, but first learned English in Detroit, so my own pronunciation and ear for things could be admittedly quite skewed...)) and Connecticut. My actual accent is mostly an amalgam of those regional variations on English. Mostly. Of course the accents change over time and i pick up some of the local accent depending on where i am.

Quote:Oddly enough i do not pronounce "calm" the same as "mom". Bizarre as it may seem i pronounce the "L" as a sort of transitional phoneme between the "a" and "m" sounds. (If that explanation makes any sense.)"Film Making Tip: The language filter doesn't do well with "Nom". You have to spell everything fenetikalee. "
I am unsure how else NOM could possibly be pronounced, even by a machine. I have always pronounced it to rhyme with "calm" as in a still ocean or lake. or Mom, your female parent. ( same sound) What did you hear?
Gnome?
viet (NAHM?)
Noom rhymes with womb? -

i have to admit i don't always understand why it's bad to have access to powers like Caltrops twice. i have some caltrop users who can already stack it through high levels of recharge, and if i recall correctly the -runspeed can be easily capped with a single application of slotted caltrops.
Also, most of my VEATs have taken Assault and Maneuvers twice. So they definitely get to take pool powers that duplicate powers in their secondary.
Beyond it being general design policy, is there a game-mechanical reason that taking Caltrops twice is more "broken" than taking Assault twice? -

Oh, redside. Yeah, redside seems to have a small fraction of the population of blueside on most servers. Add to that that i know many people who are more likely to use /hide when playing villains. Personally i never hide and welcome PuGs on either side, but i know quite a few who don't feel the way i do.

Quote:Force Bubble has a radius of 50 feet. Yes, 50 feet. With Force Bubble you don't have to be close to repel mobs from someone. But how close were you to him. He's bots, so if he's attacking, it's at range, so you shouldn't be close together.

Quote:Good point. My apologies.I thought a J_S moment had something to due with telling someone they're wrong in condescending manner and then being wrong yourself.
FWIW, i think j_s generally means well. It's just when you believe yourself to be an expert on a subject it leads to overconfidence and not checking your facts before delivering incorrect missives from on high. Gods can cheat when that happens by changing the facts afterward to match their edict. Mortal experts not so much.
...As for the main topic...
Well used Force Bubble can be an incredibly useful tool on a team. Badly or constantly used Force Bubble on a team tends to be annoying and counterproductive. -

Quote:A little more explanation of this point would be appreciated. What do you mean by "NOT use the market as intended"?The market, however, would not crash. It would simply become a "truer" representation of actual market forces uninfluenced by AE providing means and motivation to NOT use the market as intended.
The intended use of the market as best as i understand it is to provide players a convenient means of exchanging influence for other in game assets while destroying a small amount of the influence. Some PvP IOs tend to get sold outside the market because they go for prices that are over the market's cap, but that has less than nothing to do with AE. Do you mean that AE users don't use the market at all?
Inf tends to become less valuable over time in large part (IMO) due to the much higher rate of inf generation compared to everything else once a character hits 50, but that also has nothing to do with AE. How does AE enable unintended market use, whatever that may be? -
Ah. Right then. Does it have at least the readership of Rock Paper Shotgun?
Who, AFAIK did not get a Utopios package either.
i have noticed that other sites tend to have writers who play CoH as well, so i'm not sure playing CoH makes you uniquely qualified or particularly unusual among gaming sites. Hell, even Yahtzee over at The Escapist has tried CoH.
And he liked it more than he likes most MMOs.
Considering his jaundiced approach to games in general, and MMOs in particular, it was surprisingly positive. -
Quote:Wow. Uh, non sequitur much? i've reread this several times and while i almost think i know what it's intended to mean, i really don't understand how it relates to the discussion at all. When the goal of a discussion is innovation one must never let there own personal goal become victory because that proves that they them selves have failed.
Quote:I did some number crunching and it would appear that you are correct. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. -
Quote:i'm not really familiar with that site, even though i'm familiar with Kotaku, and Massively, and all the other gaming sites that have been linked by the Mods on the forums. Do you know offhand how that site's readership compares to sites like Kotaku?and yet the press that actually, you know, PLAY THE GAME, don't get anything.
i know that press packages like the Utopios one aren't generally produced in massive lots, so they're generally only sent to high readership outlets who have a significant presence in the gaming community or wider media. -

Quote:Questions i might add:Though it would surely be interesting for everyone to fill them out, that's not the point of this thread. Instead, I'm looking for more questions to add to it. So, what other details would be good to know?
What species is your character?
What is their general moral code?
i would also change "What do they think of the Police?" to "What do they think of the local authorities/government?" -
Quote:But i would advocate throwing them under this Tanker in particular. Especially since i have a hunch i know the Tanker's server and affiliation. Unless i miss my guess he's either a particular Tanker, or was tutored by a particular Tanker, who has a learning curve that resembles Kansas.Caltrops is useful but I very rarely use it while teamed for basically this reason. Caltrops is one way to get enemies into a certain position and Taunt is another, and they don't necessarily play well together. If someone's got the enemies positioned around themselves I rarely find the slow useful anyway (where are the enemies going?) Like others have said though, solo is a whole other story, and sometimes I use the trops to block an area where I'm standing some distance from the Tank.
All that said, this Tank sounds like someone I had the misfortune of running with once, binds and all. You were right to quit, although I also wouldn't personally continue throwing caltrops under Tankers in general. -
Quote:i think Warden's been having some j_s moments today. They also posted in another thread that patrol xp gives double xp.For kinetics, the person would have to be right next to him. The radius is extremely small.
And what do you mean, "Blasters have a repel power in their APPs which means stalkers do as well?" One means jack to the other. For APPs, Stalkers get Blaze, Body, Darkness and Weapon mastery - none of which have a repel in them. Nor do the PPPs.
Telekenesis can only push back about 5 mobs at most.
And Force Bubble has a noticable bubble *graphic* you'd see pushing the mobs back. So, given the OP was seeing a bubble, I doubt it's Repel or TK - and it CERTAINLY isn't Repel. -
It sort of sounds like the old aura for the Mayhem/Safeguard debt protection power, but i always delete that power as soon as i get it, so i haven't really seen it in a long time.
Silly Devs, creating a power that slows down getting certain badges at a point in a character's career where it's not likely to be useful for long at all even if it was desired. -
Quote:Every one of those repel powers has a radius of approximately 5' and primarily do knockback. Force Bubble is a repel power that has a radius about ten times that and has a very low chance of inflicting KB in addition to the repel effect. Unless the MM had the Brute set on follow and never got more than a couple feet away none of the powers you mentioned would do anything. Reread the OP.Blasters have a repel power in their APPs which means Stalkers do as well. Is repel for kins knockback or repel. Being pushed away sounds like a repel power. It could also be Telekinesis. Which along with being a Control power, fenders and corruptors can pick up in their APP.
Force Bubble can cause a "running backwards" effect, i've seen it many times on my Force Fielders. The other powers simply hurl the mobs away. (Inflict KB.) Telekinesis is another repel power, but its effect is very limited. Hurricane is a very obvious repel power. Only Force Bubble can consistently keep mobs pushed out of melee range for another player without the user staying directly on top of the melee player. None of the powers you've suggested would result in the scenario the OP described. -
He's at it again, whatever it is. No need to discuss-muss.
Just drop off the key, Lee... -
Force Bubble is the only power i know of that works the way the OP described. Although i'm not ruling out someone else having Force Bubble, unless everyone else on the team was staying right next to the MM it would be pretty obvious who was generating the effect.
