Pure genius! Must have taken some real brainpower to come up with this one from the marketing team. Well done

There's a bit of a misconception that blasters are meant to be only about damage whereas there are degrees of damage, control, and even an element of melee involved. A blaster is arguably the closest thing you'll get to "jack of all trades" in this game - so it really depends on how you like /dev.
I've never worried about what other people think is "optimum." I often enjoy quirky builds so if it's good for you and it's fun to play then great. If you feel it's lacking, roll something else. I've only limited experience of Devices but it seemed to me it had a lot of value especially if you like soloing and can give you a big edge when taking down big groups and winnowing the wheat from the chaff so to speak. -
Very very cool! Inspirational in fact!

Ace! I shall do my damndest to toddle along and put names to faces and press flesh.

Meet sounds great. Brum suits me very well too.

Just wanna say thanks to you guys for the kind comments. I didn't want to go with a fanfare but... well I'm genuinely touched - and despite how effing angry I am... I love this game and the community that survives despite NC
Those of you who want to stay in touch should be able to by now -
No
I prepurchased GR in the end but I'm buggered if I'm gonna pay to sub when clearly that is all NC wants from me. I pay £8.99 to be tolerated - there's probably a bean counter in Korea who's calculated that I'm acutally a "cost" and so I'm gonna take my "devil dog" and walk him more and find a company that actually appreciates my £££
Lets face it, the EU community's been given short shrift from before Brighton got closed - there's a story there but I wouldn't want to strain the rules telling it. But despite Avatea's best intent or War Witches chocolate deflections it became increasingly obvious that the EU is insignificant to NCSoft.
Ironically it took much mithering from the EU to get Black Pebble to raise his ugly stony visage - and yet he's totally failed to address any of the very valid issues raised not just by me but by many of the European community.
The EU exists as a dwindling revenue stream to NC. Those who love the game will buy a new account on the NA servers and sacrifice their toons, vet rewards, SGs, community and booster packs for the promise of an exciting new expansion to their gaming experience. I'm not prepared to do that.
I have a perfectly good account - I have 48 months of vet reward, I have all the booster packs and the new expansion. I have some toons with great badges, and I have friends. I'm not going to restart from scratch. It's clear that we are unloved in the EU, and in fact I'd suggest there's a big section of NC that thinks we are positively unwelcome.
I'm a big believer that there's nothing to keep people involved as good customer service, and this is nothing like good customer service.
Back in February I posted the "The EU gets shafted again" - the best response we got was War Witch trying to deflect and talk about chocolate.
Not good enough. I'm spending my ££ elsewhere. -
-
Quote:That'd be my preferred option too, but it's a shedload of work. I'm not sure the NCSoft bean-counters would be impressed by such an expense.
See... that's where it fails. The only thing NC gives a monkeys about is about milking the existing revenue stream. There is no interest in long term customer gain or even customer retention. They are happy for us to fall by the wayside until they can make that press release saying that "The EU servers are no longer financially viable" -
Avatea:
In the words of Joe Wilson, "You lie!"
That is not personal, but it IS a fact. Paragon Studios have proven time and time again since the took over the IP of the franchise that if they want to do something they make it happen. To cite technical difficulties is piss poor, frankly and I'm sorry that you got fronted up to say that because nobody who read it believed you. People have even suggested alternatives that are perfectly feasible and if NC can't fathom that then boo to them. It's typical of how the company you work for treats it's paying customers.
Let's face it, Korea doesn't care about its own home market - it killed CoH there overnight - so doesn't understand that the EU even exists. The only thing Korea gets is $$, Kwon and rogue torpedoes.)
My twitter feed is @RiffGaffer if you'd like to keep in touch.
Take care and thanks for the fun to all my friends. I'm done with NC bull. We don't matter to NC and however good this game is I'm not gonna be sit here and get fed lies while corporate beancounters fill their pockets.
I actually bought GR but I won't be playing CoH until Beelzebub skates to work -
-
Quote:Bull. Hire a good artist, writer, colorist, and letter. Get Image on bored. You got yourself a comic. The whole venture costs maybe 2.5 to 5 grand and as long as you sell more than 3000 copies, which is a definite with CoH (and not to mention customary that distributors buy 10k of the first issue), you make profit on every issue even if it sell bad and you break even after 2-4 issues if the entire thing is a flop.
Comics are only difficult to manage when you don't have money and/or a company to back you. You have both.
See this is why Black Pebble is incompetent. He can't even say David Nakayama
Black Pebble's initials are BP: Nuff said -
Quote:You know, I never bought the complaints with rep comments. Before when they actually showed up, you had to expressly go to your User CP and scroll down to read them, in essence specifically going to look what other people have to say about you. Now that that's gone, the only way to see rep comments left for you is to specifically check the rep for every post you have made, several days after you made it, by trying to rep your own posts. And that's if you even know that trying to rep yourself will actually show you your post's current reputation and comments.
Do you have any concept how much work and commitment that is? I don't remember half the posts I make in any given day, or the places I put them, and on the off chance I remember to check for rep, there usually just isn't any. And even then, I have multiple posts in a thread spread over multiple pages, so checking them all on the off chance that one has a message from someone saying I suck is so much work I am NOT willing to do it.
If you're systematically checking and rechecking all your several-days-old posts and looking for rep comments on them, then you have no ground to complain about the things you find. There is no excuse for why you couldn't avoid seeing them, when you have to go so far out of your way to see them you end up in another state altogether.
If rep comments bother you, then stop going back to your old posts and checking for them.
I'm not as verbose or prolific as you Sam
You might post a bucket load but I don't. My post rate is like 3 or 4 a day maybe; about 1000 per year. Yours seems to be a tad higher than that. It's easier for me to check.
Given the forum merge was what... a year ago (maybe?) I'm betting my rep fluctuates a lot more than yours, simply because your "mass" is greater. I'm also aware that I've made some controversial posts (some threads got totally deleted) and I got massive negs for them.
Yes I do check. Deal with it.
I check for several reasons. I am naturally curious, for one. I am genuinely interested in what people have to say when shielded by anonymity. It's human cruelty at it's finest, one removed.
I'm also a severe chronic depressive. Sometimes this game has been all I've had to hang on to... a place I can transfer the darkness I live in day to day into some semblance of sense. The black thoughts are my foes - and here in Paragon I can defeat them. But sometimes, just sometimes, when my green bar goes red, it's like being sniped from the tallest building in Atlas, simply for being there.
I'm also very much from the old school: Stand up and be counted - say what you want to say and hold to you words. I know you and I have disagreed, but I have always been at pains to tell you "to your face" how I feel - never to snipe from the shadows. I believe this is my strength and weakness.
My objection to rep (speficially negative) is simple: I am happy for you to disagree with me, and argue and fight with me on the boards. But I want to argue "face to face." If you disagree, that's fine. You know that because you and I have been there. But if you and I disagree, we can at least come to a point where we agree to disagree and then leave it alone. Snipers... well that's what a this forum's become.. there's no recourse.
Bet you one thing, if every neg rep comment was posted in the forum with the poster's name, the snipes would stop. -
Alright I'm out.
Sub expires tomorrow. Love the game, hate the management is how I'm feeling right now. Those of you who know me probably understand that to play, I have to make sacrifices. I'm no longer prepared to do that when our section of the community is continually forgotten.
So no cool fan fic or big flowery stuff, just thanks to all of you over the last four years who made it so much fun for me and really added to my life experience. Some of you guys seriously had a big part in... well, those that know, know, but I hope those of you who do realise how much of a positive impact you've had in my life, here, in game and generally.
See you if I decide to scrape the readies together. Some of you know how to reach me and those who do will be welcome in my in box.
TTFN as they say sometimes

Quote:The same thing is true for PMs. For that matter, the same thing is mostly true for public threads as well. The odds of a mod stumbling across a forum violation without it being reported are not high.
Whether you think the rep system is a good idea or not, its a bit over the top to try to claim that the system literally violates the forum rules. Nowhere in the forum rules does it say you can't send anonymous messages to other posters, and they are only anonymous to you, not to the forum mods if you report them. They are just as accountable for what they say in reputation flags as they are in PMs or public posts.
There is no actual double standard. And exaggerations are only interesting for humorous ends, they never really help a situation even in terms of getting attention to them, because it tends to be the wrong attention.
Ok well the general useage tends to violate - because it engenders unmoderated behaviour, in my experience at least. How's that? Neg rep requires a comment, where as posi-rep doesn't - and because the system is largely anonymous, comments tend to be highly spiteful. I'd be quite surprised if the mods even know (or care) who posted the comment saying "you're a complete ****!" given the the forum software. Thus there is no form of censure.
With a PM you know who sent the message and in a public forum it's obvious. -
Many congrats. Here's to another 5 for you

Rep is one of the worst features of these boards.
It is a charter for scum and cowards.
It contravenes the forum rules themselves because it enables people to make comments that are against the forum rules a) anonymously, and b) unmoderated (unless reported to board Moderators. Specifically:
Quote:Thus unless you notify a moderator directly the poster gets away with it.2. Abuse and disrespectful behavior are not tolerated.
The purpose of the forum is to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas. Occasionally, conflicts may arise when people voice opinions. Be courteous when disagreeing with others. Debating the opinion is appropriate, however criticism against the originator of the opinion is not allowed. Disrespect can be construed as flaming, trolling, harassing, profanity, abusive language or abbreviations, personal attacks, racial, religious, ethnic, sexual slurs, or similar behavior/language.
This applies to public threads, private messages, visitor messages on user profiles, reputation comments and calendar notes.- Flaming is defined as posts which are designed to personally berate or insult another.
- Trolling is defined as deliberately posting derogatory, inflammatory comments/threads in order to bait other users into responding. Trolling or accusing someone of being a troll is also a form of trolling and is not permitted.
- Posts similar to Moderator Notified or Needs thread lock are discouraged, as these types of posts are a form of trolling. If a thread is in violation of the forum rules, use the notify moderator button or PM a moderator directly.
- Personal attacks include, but are not limited to insulting a poster directly:
Example: You are stupid, you suck, and you should [censored].
It cannot be turned off - only the display can be turned off - thus is is non-consensual: If you want to post on the boards, you have to have it. (I checked but I couldn't see anywhere in the FAQ or Forum Rules that it is made clear that you can be neg repped without realising it.)
The argument that "it allows me to comment on the thread without detracting from the conversation" is specious because invariably those who do rep, positive or negative contribute to the thread anyhow, and it is not a comment on the thread itself - it comments the poster of the thread, board wide.
With older "Star" systems, the thread itself could be graded - but this system permits (undoubtedly a very small number of) sad individuals to form what is effectively a vendetta against people who post simply because they are "not one of us" or many other reasons.
Sure, forum wars happen all the time but it's curious that this topic is frequent, yet there is no official word from Paragon Studios on their double standards of operation. -
didn't check that I admit - '79 sounds more plausible and ties in with his war on drugs in the early 80s too.
Thanks for info
What's really scary is I was born around the same time as most of the signature heroes... and I'm still waiting for my superpowers! -
So I was checking something in Paragon Wiki and I happened to see that BABs was born on May 8th, 1960.
He goes on to found the Regulators in 1972, at the ripe old age of 12.
Now, I know pre-teens can be smart and societally aware, but surely - even allowing for vagaries of comicbook time and other anomalies created by fiction, that's a tad young?
Is this actually correct or is there something missing?

I have a 9800GT that serves most of my purposes. I don't particularly want to chuck it out and some of the higher spec gfx cards are pretty pricey. I'm thinking I could pick another 9800GT up reasonably cheap and SLi it but I have it in my mind that pre-Ultra Mode, SLi wasn't supported by the game.
Anyone have any updated info on this?
TIA
