I'm not getting any image in the updater at all. Black screen then it loads
I'd almost prefer something obscenely colourful! -
Quote:Where can I find your trio thread? I remember that I used to team with you quite often before my long hiatus a year ago.
Voila! PM me in game if you are interested: @Riff -
Quote:I think different approaches to the game are at odds here. Turning off exp is a no-no for me. I find it really demoralizing to beat up enemy after enemy without the knowledge that my sweet sweet ping is waiting for me. I have several dozen characters in my barracks; when I choose to spend time with one of them, it's because I want to see them gaining new powers and becoming stronger. It's also the reason why I'm looking forward to the Incarnate levels, finally something to do with level 50s that can't ping any more.
Still, I'm perfectly aware that it's my choice to gain exp, but without exp my fun is ruined.
This I would agree with. I actually hate that but it's an option that's open to you.
I would also suggest there's enough content in the game that we get to 50 much too quickly now - that's a general point not aimed at any zones - but it's a bugbear.
I got a toon from 1-50 in 4 weeks just playing the game normally, no stupidity in the AE, just a couple of hours most nights focussing on one character. That really limits the amount of content we can experience in a "normal levelling pattern" if such a thing exists. Sure we can do the rest of the content via flashback arcs, but it's not the same.
I also have a big problem with "Patrol XP" where we're given a bonus for doing nothing. That's farcical.
Thinking further about this, I've been doing a lot of this in trios - see my trio thread if interested - and playing regularly on that we do well without outlevelling things thus far. -
Quote:It was a long while back and I try to forget the 'Dark Times', but I remember having a bit of surplus inf in the mid to late 30's, and by the time I hit 50 there was enough on hand that I could afford to play 'sugar daddy' for some of my friends.
kinda like inverse proportion to hair then -

NCSoft websites and a positive user experience prove once again to be total strangers.

First After Red Name
Never posted this before
Great game however! -
yeah it's a pain but don't hold your breath

Good thread, meets with my approval!
There's a number of "unfinished plots" - I had a list once but I lost it but there's also been some other questions...
Frostfire, one of the signature lowbie encounters, is suddenly appearing in high level content and fighting along side you against Malta.
Who is Dr Kahn? Almost all other TFs and most trials are delivered by a signature character, a member of Freedom Phalanx. Even the opposite version is delivered by a signature character - Baracuda - and yet here we have an odd scenario where somebody we have no idea who they are, nor who they are connected to - gives you a mission to save the world. This may not be an unfinished plot but it's certainly incongruous.Quote:(Edit to add I've just gotten this from Paragon Wiki:
Information
Portal Corp. Historian
Dr. Scott Kahn is one of Portal Corporation's top researchers and historians. While his particular field of study is the strange world of parallel dimensions, he's also very interested in the history of heroes and villains in Paragon City.)
Why isn't Blue Steel featuring in the Clockwork King's Revenge? CK seems quite happy to totally ignore his effective creator. What? -
Quote:Can't agree. If you find yourself outlevelling a contact that you really want to do you can do a number of things, including turning off XP, or even doing the arc again on a different toon, or there's also the Flashback options. The main "problem" with Praetoria is that the content encourages soloing. There's a lot of contacts and missions with very restrictive level ranges and if you team, the increased exp rate means you can outlevel a contact easily and miss out on the very juicy storyline. On top of that, there are missions that explicitly require you to go solo in order to make a moral choice.
There are certainly quite a bunch of people in Praetoria, but the only times I've even desired to team were when I needed to bridge the gap between level 12 and 15 to activate the next bunch of contacts. And this coming from a very team-oriented player.
Most of the people I've seen wanting to team and not caring about contacts and stories were the usual PUG players that are either new to the game or only care about leveling fast.
I've found that the pace of teaming works very well in Praetoria and the Devs learned a lot about providing choices - gone are the days of having to visit Frostfire 27 times on every toon just to get the XP. The strength of Praetoria - as someone who's played in it a lot - I'm still learning the stories there - and I usually find myself discovering it in a small team. -
Sadly this thread is doomed to remain speculative at best.
There is no indication that there is any interest or impetus to enable different blocs of the community to play together from any official source. War Witch posted that she was looking at it many months ago but that has been the only official message and is well past its sell-by date.
Ironically there's a pretty healthy CoH community in other virtual environments where trans-atlantic players can chat and discuss the game together - and yet actually teaming together is not doable. -
Quote:As an Australian who plays on the US servers and who played quite happily from Europe while on holidays I can confirm that latency is not a real problem and varies more from day to day than continent to continent.
Would love a merged server list, ideally before I make the next trip to visit family in Europe
You say that now... but some English heroes have just arrived down under to do battle for the greatest prize of all.
Oh... and we didn't pack the urn cuz it's not going anywhere despite what Punter said ;-) -
Quote:And every time someone tries that argument another person posts proof that we've always paid for extra stuff in this game. We paid for the extra costumes all the way back to CoV's release. It was at least a year or so before they merged both games and gave everyone that hadn't bought both games access to all the goodies in one package. The same will eventually happen with the GR stuff if we don't switch over to an F2P model.
Like I said, some argue it but I don't subscribe to that claim.
Merging of GR into the mainstream game may happen in due course but not for a while I suspect. It would need the GR package to have been exhausted and some other new initiative to encourage people to buy a "complete" edition. -
Quote:My only real concern is that from seeing what has happened in other F2P models (Is that vague enough Mighty Ocho?
) we might be expected to pay for some features that we currently get for free. I gave a few examples previously.
Some might argue that's happening now: New costume options are included in booster packs and the GR expansion, as are the "fluff" powers, such as Ninja Run and Shadowy Presence.
I personally don't subscribe to that theory but I accept there's an element of validity to it, but it could be argued that an F2P model may well bring other benefits, or woes.
For now, unless we hear otherwise, this is purely speculative brought on by other games making recent changes to this model. Simply because they have doesn't mean CoH will -
I do have an agenda. Very much so and I militate as and when I feel it is a) necessary and b) when it has at least a minimal chance some good. But I have pretty well clearly stated what my objective is and I do my best to pro-actively support the game, although I have huge issues with how the community is managed and the game is marketed.

Of course it does. What is its source? How accurate is it? When was it last updated? How does it compare with known facts?
You have posted a graph from a link that gives no indication of it's connection with game.
If you have some misguided notion of providing "evidence" of a particular position you fail. -
What I took away from that interview was the complete absence of mention of the Lady Grey TF.
Does that TF not count any longer? Surely that's one of the signature TFs for high level toons as things stand.
Is that TF going to be affected by the upcoming I19 and Incarnate changes? -

Quote:I don't come here to "win" and when I'm wrong I admit it. However explaining to someone why things would or wouldn't work takes facts, and facts require examples and citation.
Effective debate is about a back and forth discussion and the exchange of accurate information, so the thoughts and ideas are improved or discarded. If you knock information and examples out of the tripod, it becomes feelings and opinions, which can't be gainsaid, or even discussed effectively because you've made them sacred. Under those rules pretty much any disagreement can be taken as a personal attack, which just means you'd have more threads devolving into chaos not less.
I come here to inform and be informed. Having to guess where someone is getting their information or idea or what event they're referring to hinders that. Under these rules, I can't even say "I've tried this idea before in another game, it doesn't work." There's no frame of reference and my objection inspires no one to think because it's just an open ended opinion that can be dismissed.
If this is the hardline interpretation you guys are going to stick to, you might as well just make everything a Forum Poll or allow people to use /jranger as a response again, because "Yes" and "No" are going to be the only meaningful response anyone can give.
A forum is a place of discussion, this kind of thing turns this from a forum into a Comment Thread.
This.
Whatever the executors of the policy feel, the policy itself is broken.
It makes me question just what Paragon Studios are afraid of. Do they lack faith in their offering to stand toe to toe in the marketplace against the competition?
This policy in itself doesn't engender confidence in the product nor does it assist the community spirit. -
They all know about me which is why I hide!
