What better way for Cryptic to switch us over to the unofficial CoH 2.0 of Champions Online than by breaking the first version?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Flawed logic, Cryptic have nothing to do with this game anymore, it's all NC Soft and Paragon Studios now.

Still, Issue 15 looks naff, I'm seriously depressed now

    [/ QUOTE ]

    You and me both buddy
  2. Happy Birthday to a truly wonderful game.

Poor headless Paragon. Running around squacking but with no real idea where it's supposed to be going.

    This

    I'm so sad today
  4. Let's face it, I14 hasn't lived up to it's promise and reduced the game to "City of Farmers"

(apparently you get extra tickets if you press the e i e i e i & then the o keys)

I15 Anniversary... a year in development according to some and it's very meh unless they're witholding something important.

So can we seriously hope they'll pull the fat from the fire in I16?

Do the powers that be actually not like their game any more? They've certainly lost their way.
  5. Scarlet Shocker

    Theyre back.....

So what's happening for the anniversary?

As it stands, that's a dogpile for such an occasion.

It's like getting a lump of coal for xmas.

    Edit to add:

Have faith in the Devs for a change guys.

I had faith once. The Devs rained on it.

They've been hanging around for 2 weeks without activity now. Isn't it time the i14 Open Beta Forums were decoupled from the boards and let drift into oblivion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why would people on the Oblivion forum want to read them?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Cause they have a better population than Defiant :P

If it makes you feel better I should have known better and GR will laugh at me now

    Spoke too soon huh?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did. I put my faith in those who let me down.

  9. Ok so to drag this back on topic slightly, I'm guessing the concensus so far is that GW is a great "fall back."

Once you've bought the box and various expansions you can dip in and out whenever you like.

(to the question was the 6 million all campaigns I'd guess yes) but I'm guessing that is the case but even so, that's significant $$$

    Imagine this model:

CoX free to play with 2 paid expansions a year. Would that really be so bad? Would it kill the game or would the game grow?

    You tell me

People already forgotten about last years Valentines Day Dev/Forum support team event on the test server ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Already?

That was well over a year ago and the only dev interaction we've had since has been War Witch's presence at the Omega Sektor mini-con and a couple of posts from BAB, long since forgotten.

Just because we're on a different continent in a globalised game such as CoH we deserve equal attention.

I'm not sure I do agree with Dr Toerag's point totally. We are paying customers and ultimately the people who pay the Devs wages, so if we feel we are being short changed, then we've every right to make those points. How we do that is entirely another matter and it should be done constructively without simply slagging them off with a "why do you hate us so?" attitude.

Edited to add that sadly I don't think we'll see GR in an official capacity.

Edited again to say apparently we will

  11. Scarlet Shocker

    Sorry Riff

It was a good effort and we did great right up to the end.

Let's see if we can't do it better next week

Let's face it, the MA has now created a game within a game - and when the MA is working it's impossible to tell who's in the real game and who's in the virtual, other than asking the world and its dog. But getting a team in the real world is much tougher now.

Once in the MA you don't need to move out of it except to level and/or sell and you can do that comfortably within Atlas.

So move the vendors within the MA building, have a levelling mentor handy, some stores to sell you stuff and robert is your father's brother.

Those who want to go the virtual route can, those who want the "real" game can also and never the two have to meet.

It solves a problem with the virtual world giving XP in the real too - an idea that's seems borked to me. That's the equivalent of learning to fly in a flight simulator and then being let loose on the front line combat zone with an F16.]

Give the MA a separate server (or more as required) and away you go. Problem solved

    [/ QUOTE ]

They couldnt manage a decent set of servers for the real EU game, i cant see them going for this sadly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Another advantage would be that they only need it to run one MA system so they could host the servers in the US

Except for those who want to dabble in it and normal content. Ying and Yang, instead of Black or White.

Then you play on the normal server

  16. Ok a few of you have mentioned the "No Sub" rule. But that doesn't ring true.

IF it was just that it's "no sub" then why isn't the world playing GW instead of WoW? Why aren't more publishers going the "no sub" route?

Why didn't Tabular Rasa realign itself into a "no sub" game and rely on box shifting instead of closing totally?

Those are just some questions in response to that particular argument.

    Basically? The market/target audience.

Superhero genre is never a huge seller when it comes to video games/mmo's, though as a kid i'ld happily say we all imagined about being a superhero of some sort that as you get older its get turned into more fantasy based land.

At its peak didnt COH has roughly 200k subs? I think that figure alone shows that the market for hero lovers isnt a very big one at that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I can't agree I'm afraid. I think you're argument's specious for a number of reasons:

Over the last decade some of the biggest films at the box office have been "superhero" movies. Marvel are raking it in hand over fist.

At the time of CoH's launch, Comics were resurgent in their volumetric sales going through the roof - it's one of the main things that saved Marvel (and sadly, Rob Liefield's career)

Of course it's difficult to correlate 6 million box sales vs contiguous subscriptions. The maths involved would be interesting to say the least and I won't even attempt it.

Superheroes ARE popular. If they weren't you can bet that Jack Schi... um Emmert wouldn't be trying to launch CO, or DCU bringing their universe to the MMO table. GW on the other hand is simply another fantasy MMO with a low level cap and an accent on PVP.
  18. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...-million-units

    There's the story.

So interesting: GW sells 6 million in 4 years.

What's preventing (prevented?) CoX from having done so well, given that CoX is way more unique than GW?

    It's an interesting parallel.

    Theorems anyone?

Oooh!!!!!! MEMEMEMEMEME. If I can get my SoA to 50 by then or if not I'll bring a plant/thorns dom
  20. Ok just in case you didn't get this or some bright spark decides to remove the title warning

    SPOILERS!!!!!!!!

    Got that? Good.
So I'm almost 50 on my Veat and M. Dessock tells me to go slap Statesman around a bit. Which I do - with more than a bit of glee.

We have to take a helicopter over to Atlas and there he is delivering a monologue to not quite all and sundry from teh steps of City Hall.

Then it occurs to me: Where the Auction House should be is a skyscraper. Where the AE building is there's another skyscraper.

Have I mysteriously crossed into a new dimension where there's no Inventions? Then why is Statesman ranting about the dangers of Proliferation? Because that's what he is doing. It doesn't make sense and strikes me as a continuity blooper of massive proportions.

Granted, I can't blame them for not having the AE building there but the AH has been in game long enough the mission maps should have been updated.

Or am I being too harsh.... have I missed a bit where I am transported to a different time line to defeat this particular statesman?

Well either way it left me (and a few of my team) confused.
