  4. Well... it's been a long, hard ride.

    Not that way you pervs.

Back in March of last year, I was nearly killed in a headon car wreck complicated by a spinal infection three weeks later. It took me four months to have the strength and capability to walk more than ten to fifteen minutes at a time. Nine months of physical therapy and the docs say that I will always have spinal issues with a side of nerve related problems. It's really frustrating and difficult to realize I'll be living with this kind of pain for the rest of my life. Frustration lead to depression, and I all but left the boards for the majority of last year, popping up here and there. There were other trials and tribulations, but the wreck was public, the other issues I'd like to keep behind that fourth wall.

As awful as the accident sounds, there were some great things that came from it. I fell in love with my best friend, and he and I are now living together. Life always has its ups and downs. I somehow managed to make it through my two last semesters at school despite my injuries, and this May I graduated with my Bachelor's.

Unfortunately, my lack of being here means people who commissioned me have been left waiting, despite the fact I've kept in communication with most of them, I still need to make good on these things. So I'm sorry to everyone who's been waiting. You're not forgotten in the least.... Your patience is a godsend and I'm thankful for all of you and the community.

So let's start this out with Plasmastream and White Peregrine...

I've got a sketch going for Fallen Skye, but their internet is sporadic. I let them know about the list here. In the meantime, also seconding a tally. I'll jump onboard another piece until I get confirmation from Skye (Which shouldn't take too long I hope D

Also, is anyone else having issues viewing Deviantart? I really wanted to see Juggy's piece

I'll officially volunteer once I get a couple pieces out the door. Why yes, I'm still injured from the car wreck from last year, even though the insurance company says I should be healed by now. No I'm not bitter :P

Anyways, I'm pretty slow at arting but let's see if I can clean up some commission stuff by the end of this week to help out with this predicament XD
  10. Sayterra

    MMO ART?

    Heh, Juggy yer awesome.

And I've been away from these boards too long. Juggling a lot of work and dealing with a plethora of health problems stops me from jumping on the bandwagon to help out folks who haven't gotten their pieces. Waking up to being unable to feel your fingers is ALWAYS fun and enjoyable...sigh.

TA, as I type, I'm getting confirmation from the printer on your piece printing, there will also be, as I said, extras in your loverly package. So problems with the print withstanding, you should have something by roughly early next week.

If Gill IS reading, and people HAVE NOT received their prints, I'd offer to take the files from him and print them out with my newfound printer. My printer (as in print store not my own personal printer) can do poster size work, and I while I'm currently unemployed (but employed, long story) I have some free time on my hands.
  11. Hey DJ...

Very nice looking piece. The color palette in this piece is especially nice. BaB looks great in my book, I really wouldn't change anything on him, maybe sweep his cape out a bit more for a better silhouette, but his attitude is spot on. Other than folks commenting on GW's age (she does look younger and not as evil) I think what gets me the most is her hands and pose. They lack the elegance that GW is known for. It seems silly I'm sure, but I feel like the hands would strengthen the overall pose. She seems a lil stiff there. You could definitely have gone for more contrapposto. I am however, glad to see her in that outfit. She showed up at a party a few weekends ago and I loved her in that outfit, so hats off to you there
  12. Wow I've been bustin my hump trying to get work done and completely missed this. Thank you guys! So very much :3
  13. Beautiful sketch there Succubeth. And very lovely stylization of one of my favorite villains. Are you going to ink it or keep it sketchy as you finish it up?
  14. Hey guys...

A few months back, when I was chosen to create 200 cards for Marvel Masterpieces 2008, I came to this community asking for help. Man oh man, being reminded of characters I'd long forgotten was a trip down memory lane.... So cheers to YOU GUYS for helping me bring these cards to life...

Unfortunately, because of my back injury, I was unable to complete all 200 cards, so my total count for this set is 150. They varied from sketches of characters like Black Cat and Aunt May to blazing full color on characters like Chamber and Deadpool.

    You guys rock. Thank you

You can view them here: http://www.icefox-studios.net/cards/marvel

  17. It's about time

    Good luck!
  18. I hate to say it, there is no "magic" pencil, pen, or marker that will make you a better artist. Tablets are the same way A tablet will only be as useful as the hand to eye coordination of the person using it.

    However...

I love me some Faber-Castell brushpens for doing work on sketchcards because they're cheap and hold a tip for a fairly good amount of time and don't smear under layers and layers of Copic Markers.

Generally speaking, if I can do it, I really love painting with watercolor and guoache. Sadly I don't have a lot of time.

If and when I can get my hands on them, Tombo Pencils are awesome, as are Mars Lumograph. As far as paper goes, the kind of paper I use for commissions isn't something you can find in an artshop sadly. It's Chromacolour Prograde Plus 23lb 12Field and 16Field Animation paper from Chromacolour in Canada.

    Their website: http://www.chromacolour.com

Digitally I use a very old, very beat up Intuos 2 6x8 Wacom Tablet. While I'd like to get a new Intuos 3, that will have to wait until this one is utterly dead. If you'd like to know about how to choose a size for a tablet, it's fairly easy. What size paper do you normally draw on, and how big do your figures normally get? Then ask yourself, do I draw primarily, or paint? Some digital painters like having a larger "canvas" to work on, so 9x12 and up are good. Most folks in the industry, myself included, prefer 9x12 or 6x8 but nothing smaller than that.

    Hope that helps.

    Tell you what, Sayterra.

Find undeniable proof that her most recent work is copied from someone else.

Or her last few commission pieces, for that matter.

You can rant and rave all you want over what someone has done in the past, but find me examples that it's still happening, and I might be inclined to take your words with more weight then that of hot air.

    Savvy?

    You ask...I shall deliver:

The art in question is actually the background, the image was uploaded January 11, 2008: http://ladyentropy.deviantart.com/ar...kette-74369608

The original artist is Jen Delyth, who states very clearly on her website that her celtic tree of life IS NOT CLIPART: http://www.kelticdesigns.com/Pages/C...JenDelyth.html

    There you go.
  20. Well, the easiest way to deal with unauthorized distribution or infringement is to contact that person directly, apparently. Going through 5,000 images even with a search box is a little overwhelming. Your best bet is to actually contact the site itself, and then note your actual pieces that were distributed, and have them removed that directly.

    Just my two cents.

You know, for some odd reason, comic swiping is a lot more lax than other forms of swiping, however, David Mack got caught stealing photos from magazines, and now the comic is being delayed for a few weeks while he A. Redoes the cover and B. Redoes interior pages where he stole from Maleev and Adam Hughes.

Just because Lichenstein, Liefield, and Mack made their careers out of being theives doesn't make it alright.

    Onto Snow Globe...

    [ QUOTE ]
All artists are influenced by the world around them, and will copy. I have seen several variations on the dragon tatoo becoming live on a woman's back, for instance. Many with similar poses. I don't think that the picture you pointed out was the first.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Funny, when I sit down to draw, I may have photos in front of me (though usually it's a mirror or my beau), but I don't copy the photos. There is a HUGE difference between referencing and copying. Please do not paint everyone with the same brush, thanks. Yes, artists are definitely inspired by the world around them, however, copying isn't what most artists do.

I, too, have seen variations on the idea of the tattoo. However, if I were to make an overlay of Anyweth's piece and the older piece, the dragon itself is traced. Variations on a theme are fine. Look at the game, we have werewolves, robots, and superheroes. You cannot copyright a theme, an idea, or a style.

I am also very well aware of the Sonny Bono vs. Disney case. I do not think that works should be perpetually copyrighted. However, they should as the law states, exist until some time after the original artist has passed on. Do remember, however, that with Disney, they trademark their characters, which is vastly different than a copyright. Trademarks protect the likeness, copyrights protect singular pieces or works of pieces.

    [ QUOTE ]
As far as layouts are concerned, depending on the designer, I know some would argue about that. Also some would try to use patent law if the copyright attempt failed. I really hate lawyers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are grey areas. There always will be. However, the same Marvel "layouts" that Juggy has been using are used for Encyclopedias, Visual Dictionaries, etc. It's riffing on a theme. Two, three columns worth of text and an image cannot be copyrighted. Using a specific graphic background, with specific imagery however... could be questionable. But then, the artist could also call it homage/tribute, which is just another huge battleground.

    [ QUOTE ]
As far as the Scoop is concerned, I guess you have missed my recent posts regarding permission to submit images to the scoop.

In closing, you really didn't need to make yourself look like a jerk. You could have chosen to send a private message to Anyweth, but instead you posted this publically. For this reason alone you have lost any respect that I would have had for your opinions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Honestly, I don't pay attention to the Scoop, I just don't have that kind of time. I was flattered when my work was in it, and I always cheered on my friends if they were featured but that's about it. The only reason that I found Anyweth's art was by absolute accident. I was trying to read up on a few of the new art threads, and because she was new around here, I thought I'd check her out.

And if you think I'm a jerk for trying to protect artists I admire, then let it be so.

I already admitted that perhaps I was wrong in the way I handled the subject matter, however, the many years have taught me that contacting "artists" privately about infringement issues has often lead to silence, insults, or threats. So again, thank you Anyweth, for your timely, well-written responses and good luck in the future.
  22. FYI on Deviantart's Copyright Policy (which upholds US Copyright Law)

Copyright Infringement (aka "Art Theft" or "Ripping")
Current deviantART policy defines 'Art Theft' to be any situation where a user takes the original art, photography, or writing of another person (a 'third party') and then either misrepresents the original, unaltered work as one of their own creations or includes the work (either altered or unaltered) in a new image.

Citing sources actually would have saved Anyweth (or any artist for that matter) a lot of trouble on Deviantart when it comes to this sort of thing. Let's say for instance, on the Adam Hughes piece, that she had linked the original and called it a study of an Adam Hughes piece. That, would have been acceptable by DA's policies and by the art community at large.

    ------------------------
    Snow-Globe,

I know why you despise copyright law, just like all the other web and graphic designers out there I've met, it means you need to actually get permission/pay to use cool photos, fonts, and designs on your webpages. I encountered the same mentality with the entire web design/graphics department at the school I used to attend. However, let's say you make a rocking web design. Let's say that design makes you a good sum of money. Now let's say someone else takes that design, alters one or two things, and makes it to the web. No sign of saying "hey, this is actually Snow-Globe's page!" and then they get paid for it as well. Copyright law does have it flaws, that much I will admit, however, it is there to protect yourself as a designer just like its there to protect other artists.

On Juggy's links... I hate to tell you this Globe, but there's no theft there. You cannot copyright a page layout style. You as a web designer should know this, and if you don't, then now you do, and I'm going to link you and others up to a really good site about learning about this kind of thing so there isn't confusion in the future. The first was created by animation and comic professional and friend Aimee Major, the second I found on a lark and thought it well done. Especially if you're acting as an Editor for the Scoop:

The Copyright Files by Aimee Major

    Copyright 101: An online course

    -----------------------------

Anyweth has taken down the offending images and therefore I don't have a problem with her or her work. A lot of people do not understand copyright laws, nor do they think about them much when they are developing artists. So thanks for being, sadly, the first person to rationally respond to the complaints brought forward to you. Earlier this week I dealt with someone who was forging official Topps sketch cards that myself and my friends had worked on and his attitude stunk. So I apologize for the brusqueness, my bad.

    Onward with the art!
  23. I am not speaking about her recent work.

I am citing the works that I found, as I normally peruse galleries when I see new art, as I like finding new artists. While looking through her gallery, I saw that certain things weren't matching up.

Why were newer pieces lacking the anatomy she had in older pieces, I wondered. And that's when it hit me that I'd seen the work before.

If you missed it in the beginning, you can look back on the first page and see the two pieces I pointed out.

If Anyweth has "moved on" as a lot of artists DO, then she needs to take the offending pieces out of her gallery because they don't hold any baring to what she is offering as a commissioned artist.

So before you go off defending her, take a look at the original intentions of the post:

    1. Please stick to creating original artwork

    2. Remove the offending pieces.

While I'm sure I will come back to some other witty, snarky comment from you in the morning, this is all I'm posting on the matter. Deviantart will remove the pieces, and if they find that more of her gallery is stolen, they may suspend and/or ban her. I would rather that she actually take the pieces down and move on than the latter.

    Gnite.

    (insert witty quote here)
  24. Every young artist must learn from somewhere, that is correct.

    Yuri, I am an artist.

What how to books do, and what this artist did, are two separate worlds.

How to books are produced with the notion that people will and are going to use them to learn how to draw, and copy the artwork within. The rights managed for these books are different from original pieces of work.

Copying Adam Hughes isn't a how to book. It's stealing.

Copying the Den's art is also stealing. Neither of these artists posted their work so that someone else could copy it, and then post it in a gallery, while offering commissions to the public based off their "portfolio" which holds stolen work.

She is offering commissions. She is supposedly making profit off showing these pieces around. Therefore, she is directly infringing on the copyrights of the two original artists.

I have absolutely no problem with folks learning about how other artists draw by copying their work for their own reference. The difference is that Anwyeth is/was claiming it as her own.

I am not critiquing. I am not about to. I am simply citing theft where I see it, and have reported it as I would anyone.

As to Juggy's series, I have no idea A. why you're bringing it up and B. what the parallel is...

Anyweth needs to remove the older works that are in question (or Devianart will) and move on. That's all.

I have no witty parting thoughts or quotes, I don't find them necessary to bolster my post.
  25. The question is, why keep stolen work on your gallery if you've learned to be original? You're featuring stolen work on your front page.

As for Roy Lichenstein, thad made the rounds about swiping a year or so ago. I do not agree with Roy's work either.
