Ack! Highway robbery! Sorry to hear about that, and I'll look forward to the new site when it's up!
-
Sorry for bumping an old thread, but... the links in the OP aren't working any more (or at least not at the time of this writing). I'm a big fan of DJ's work... is there somewhere else where I can see this piece?
-
Now that is teh hawt sweetness right there. Rock on, Sorah!
-
That's a great picture. Only, why is it blocked by the "mature content filter"?
-
Those are great! I like the cat stuck in the tree. However did that happen?
-
Superb work, Sorah.
"Hawt" is way too tame a word for this piece. -
Oooh, sweet!
Both figures are very cute, and the way they are arranged in the drawing is very compelling. Well done!

Dear Mr. Sueanythingformoney,
It has come to our attention that you have issued a "cease and desist" request concerning an alleged trademark and copyright violation on behalf of Time Warner Communications regarding the phrase "Uncommon Valor". Please be advised that documents filed on behalf of Time Warner did in fact reference only the phrase "Uncommon Valer" (sic). Notwithstanding any proponderance of evidence suggesting that this was, ipso facto, a typographical error, you should be aware that this has been deemed an insufficient argument as determined by the majority ruling in 20th Century Fox vs. Mighty Moose. Therefore, in accordance with federal law and with all due respect, you are hereby advised to seek the acquisition of an adequate spellchecker, and in the meantime to put your "cease and desist" request where the sun don't shine.
Sincerely,
I. Dunno Howe,

Thank you all for the positive remarks! Plas, I'm glad you like it. I didn't do anything different with the hair besides just illuminate it better. I took some time to get the lights better this time; I finally realized that the way to light up the pony tail and the cape was to illuminate it from behind. Learn something new every day, I guess. Anyway... thanks again for the feedback, and for the help in getting it to where it needed to be.

Here is my revised version of this pic. I made several changes that Plas had requested, and I also tried to take the advice in this thread. I tried to make the pose more dynamic, and I think the overal result is much improved from the original.
There was some advice that I tried to take, but didn't have success with, namely trying to add a motion blur. The various things I attempted didn't come out right, so I left it off this one. I'll have to learn some better ways to do that kind of thing before attempting it on another pic.
By the way... I'm using Poser 6 to render the scene and Paint Shop Pro 9 for the textures and post work.
Anyway... pending final approval from Plas, I think this is the final version. Let me know what you think! And thanks again for the help and advice. -
Thank you all for the comments. They are all very much appreciated. I don't mind constructive criticism at all; it is very welcome, and it is the only way I'm going to improve. DJ, you know I value your opinion highly, and I eagerly receive any advice you throw my way!
One thing I have to clarify, though, is that I can't take credit for the city scene. I didn't render it myself; I simply used an existing image as a backdrop. I tried using several "city block" props I had acquired, but they didn't look good enough. So, while I'm gratified that I apparently chose the right backdrop image, I certainly cannot take credit for having created it.
All of the critiques offered here and in private are quite valid, and as I said, appreciated. I'll be revising this one with these comments in mind, and I hope to have an updated version posted here shortly.
Again, thank you all for the feedback! -
Here is my rendition of PlasmaStream.
I wasn't quite sure how to do the eyes; I don't know how to do "glowy" effects in PSP, and most of the things I tried didn't look at all like what I wanted. This simplified version is the one I liked the best from the various things I attempted.
Hope you like it, Plas! -

Are you hosting it on photobucket? I've noticed that if you host it on photobucket it will only let you change it if you put it on your first page. It won't work if you host it in a folder for some weird reason.

This is actually not true. My avatar is hosted on Photobucket, and it's in a subfolder. However, it seems to have trouble if there is a space anywhere in the subfolder or file name. This equates to a %20 in the URL, which should work, but for some reason doesn't. So make sure there are no spaces in the subfolder or file name.
Oh, and... yay for more chibis! -
Thanks for the info, Starchasm. I'm using PSP 9, and it doesn't seem to have a "lawn" or "grass" preset. I tried looking in the so-called "artistic brush" also, but... no such thing. Is there some way to import a brush type like that into PSP 9? I'd really like to learn how to do this.
[edit] here are the preset options I get with the default paintbrush in PSP9. -
Ooooh, DJ that looks awesome. I am envious of both the tools and knowledge it takes to do that kind of thing. I've looked for something similar in PSP, but either it doesn't exist or I'm overlooking it. If any PSP users out there know how to do the kind of thing DJ is talking about, please let me know! Meanwhile, I'll just have to save up my pennies for Photoshop.
-
Thanks, DJ. I wish I knew how to do that... and I wish I had Photoshop. Does anyone know if PSP has a similar kind of thing? I'd love to learn how to do that kind of thing.
Also... I have to confess, in my original vision for this pic, you wouldn't be able to see the ground at all. The forest prop set that I got includes a "mist" prop that is supposed to make it look like the ground is covered in mist. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work. It looks like this in the preview window, but it looks like this when it's rendered. The prop seems to be just a one-sided square with a texture map and transparency map, placed at a 45 degree angle just in front of the scene. So, I have no idea why it's rendering the way it is. I wrote to the email address in the readme file, but have gotten no response. Any Poser experts out there have any idea why it's not working right? -
Here is my interpretation of Pyrria's mysterious and mystical ShadowDruid.
I took some liberties with her costume, namely by putting her in a dress and adding a cloak. Not that there's anything wrong with her in-game costume, but when I first tried this image with pants and sans cloak, it didn't have the look I was going for. Thanks, Pyrria for granting me the creative license to do so. I hope you like it! -
Sorah asked me to try a version of this pic with longer hair. Here is my attempt at this. The hair helps with the shoulder that DJ mentioned, and I also tried to pay a little more attention to shadows and ambient occlusion. Hope you like it, Sorah.

Thanks! The textures are actually applied to the "ultra catsuit" for V3, so it's not really a second skin -- but not far from it. The boots and gloves are separate clothing items from the catsuit, with their own textures.

Thank you for the suggestions, DJ, you know I value your opinion greatly. I'll try to apply them, although my post-production skills are not very good. I don't have Photoshop, I could only afford PSP, but... if you have any pointers on how to rectify the things you mentioned, I'd be very grateful.
