Hide is iffy, since the original intent of the sheet was to show what would happen if you ported a powerset to a different archetype (its originally a proliferation analyzer, not just a comparison tool). I'll think about that one, although it is trivial for anyone to knock Hide out of the Kheldian and VEAT columns if they think that's invalid.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I figured as much. The only reason I point it out is I don't really think any of the EAT sets are proliferable (sp?). I mean, how would you proliferate a White Dwarf? Besides, if you really wanted to compare the sets for proliferation, wouldn't you set the other values (def/res/hp/etc) to scale with the selected AT as well? Right now those are completely static. The only thing that changes is Hide's defense bonus.
I always looked at them as a "special case" for the purposes of the spreadsheet. -
Two problems with Shield:
1) You updated True Grit's MaxHP buff (7.5% -> 10%) for base Shield, but you didn't also increase that to 10% for the OwtS category. Speaking of which...
2) You didn't include OwtS's enhanceable 20% +MaxHP.
Misc Problem:
*) You haven't updated Stalker's base hp. It is no longer ~1017, now it's 1204.8.
Inquiry:
*) Right now, when the scalars are set to Stalkers, it adds Hide to VEATs and Kheldians. Intended, or oversight? -
It may or may not be worth noting the new level factor pulldown breaks Open Office. (It changes D3, D4, and all the damage cells E193->AV243) to a red #N/A. I don't think OO likes the +X notation. If I change cells S269 to S276 from +X to just X, it works just fine.
Haven't got the time to fiddle with it too much, but it looks nice so far. -
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, what your four Dark Defenders did was floor her damage with four Darkest Nights (eight with fluffies) and many, many Twilight Grasps. Like, by 90%. She was only putting out 10% of her normal damage. She was neutered, pretty bad.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bingo. Don't forget Shadow Fall has NE res as well. A while back I was in an STF with 6 Dark Defenders and 2 Stormies. Ghost Widow's hold did 10 damage per tick - it was hysterical. -
[ QUOTE ]
then again, it's the same reason that 15 tsoo green ink men can make an /ela cry despite their incredible energy protection while an /ea sorta shrugs and keeps on killing. It's an inherent weakness of resistance-based sets to make up for their far more stable performance. Honestly I think that's one of the best reasons to choose a stone-out-of-granite brute... a damage shield plus an almost total lack of weakness to stacked mez from herds.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure if you know this or not, but Granite doesn't just give resistance, it also gives more defense (except to psi, which is none) than its regular toggles. -
I wonder... do you think the devs were/are hesitant to give EA capped energy defense because of how the defense intrinsically works? Think about it, unlike energy resistance (a la Electric Armor), capped energy defense would provide capped mitigation against all energy and dual typed attacks, not just part of it.
So, a Chief Soldier's melee attack deals (roughly) 2/3 lethal and 1/3 energy damage. An Electric Brute (w/o pools) would have 41% lethal res and 90% energy res, mitigating ~57.3% of the hit. EA would have 90% mitigation.
The specifics change depending on the balance of the attack, so something like Total Focus (28% smash, 72% energy) would be ~76% mitigated by Electric. (Still 90% by EA.)
That's just a guess, of course. -

Frankly, with the cost of fuel today having an unlimited supply of jetpack fuel for $5/mo is a steal.

This sent me down a different train of thought... why pay the current price of gas now when we can go back to the days it was cheap as dirt via Ouroboros? -
[ QUOTE ]
how many people that MIGHT have joined the game walked away while you were doing that?
[/ QUOTE ]
I was there, I did spend a lot of time talking to them, but I also saw them talk to other players and to new ones and potential players. I guess I didn't see the problems you cite. *shrug*
It was amusing, though. One person asked me questions because they thought I worked there. Hah! -
PS: Niviene made a new thread to discuss the issue.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, it's a permanent power that grants you a costume currently unavailable to all paying customers which allows you to play a character who wears the armor of the city's police department -- which is an excellent costume to have in a superhero roleplaying game set in a city. Plus, many think it's more attractive than other costume options currently available to paying customers.
[/ QUOTE ]
A very limited costume. It's male only, not huge or female. You can't have pale skin, or blue, or green. Your proportions (height, leg slider, shoulders) are set. You lose all the customization the character creator has to look like an NPC.
You can make a character to work with it, don't get me wrong. It's just very limiting in the same way Granite and Kheld forms are.
[ QUOTE ]
Those who don't care about this issue and/or who don't understand why others do care will not have their lives affected by this costume piece being for sale to those not able to attend the con.
[/ QUOTE ]
Certainly not, but the people who feel NC is nickel and diming them will care.
See, if someone were to post saying "I'm disappointed, this would be perfect for my character. Please consider alternate methods of making this available." I'd say nothing. All the doom, flaming, name calling, is just absurd.
[ QUOTE ]
No need to be bothered that it's an issue for others. That's what boggles my mind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Read the above. The majority of people here are being, how shall we say, less than constructive about this. I'm really getting annoyed that every single thing NCSoft brings out all the negative you see in this thread. It's very tiring and, honestly, reminding me a lot of posts on the WoW boards.
I miss when the majority of the posts here were constructive. They seem so far between anymore. -
[ QUOTE ]
Or ... some of us might have already created PPD characters - for example, I have "Detective Keyes", a Psi/Mental Blaster, on Virtue ... and I've had him since i12 went live; I'd be treating a PPD HArdshell "not-so-temporary" power as a sixth costume slot.
[/ QUOTE ]
If this perk was never offered, would that be more acceptable? It would be "fair," no?
What if your detective was female? (I'm assuming it's not.) Transforming into a male wouldn't be nearly as appealing, would it?
You what, if they had made the Rularuu Broadsword one of these perks and such that my BS/Regen couldn't attain it, I might be disappointed (since it fits her perfectly), but I would hardly be the things mentioned in this thread. (Along the lines of "your marketing people are idiots, fire them.") I put quite a bit of effort into the characters I create too, they're not just generic heoes because I wanted to play set X and Y.
As I said, I do not understand all the hatred shown here. It's just too minor of an issue.
[ QUOTE ]
Oh, as for your two solutions? You missed one: Send someone to a convention that is somewhere OTHER than the West Coast.
[/ QUOTE ]
Let's say they send someone to New York. Someone in Florida doesn't have the same access as someone in NY, so it's unfair, hold something closer to that. Then the Midwest would complain. Then states in the Midwest, etc. What about Canada? Australia? It's impossible for them to please / be "fair" to everyone. People will be excluded no matter what. Does that mean they should never go to cons at all?
[ QUOTE ]
I mean, come on ... webcomic artists (who survive on income from their webcomic alone) can afford to attend every convention under the sun all year long, but a global corporation can't afford to send a schlub or two cross-country once or twice a year ...?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not even going to pretend to know the costs or logistics of NCNC or a comic artist in an event like this. You can ask them. -
[ QUOTE ]
The replies here speak for themselves.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then I'll offer my view point that is counter to most of the ones in this thread. What they're giving out:
- is not a power that makes one player better than another. It won't effect your gameplay at all.
- is not a badge, because there is a portion of the population who are badge hunters, so an exclusive one is bad mojo. (Though, they do exist already.)
- is not a set of exclusive costume pieces you can mix and match.
We're talking about a temp power that transforms you into a clone of an NPC. I suppose you could create a character concept around it, but people who say the char creator is so great, this eliminates its power just like Cloak of Darkness, Granite, or Kheldian forms do. So why do people gawk over it, again?
Okay, so for sake of argument, why not figure out a way to give it to the masses?
- Let's make it a purchasable by everyone. Well, now you just alienated the people who think NCNC is out to nickel and dime everyone. (The whole "I pay my $15 and they want more?" thing.)
- Okay, just give it away then. Well, some people will be upset that their special power is given out. (Remember the venom from people who found out their prestige sprints were given out to everyone?)
No matter what they do, it's impossible for them to please everyone. I just don't see this perk being so overwhelming that it warrants the amount of vitriol shown in this thread. It's just... mind boggling to me.
(As for the complaint of some people getting more out of their $15 than you, it's already true for people who play more than those who don't have time to.) -

Also, I've never been to PAX and never felt the need to go, but since I live in the Seattle area and the hardsuit looks awesome, I'm suddenly wondering what would a 1-day pass would cost me? ^_^

Looks like $30. -

I may be heading up for this one, depending on the timing of some things going on right now.

You should definitely come to PAX. We're gracious and nice in person, I swear. And if anyone tries to harass you about "nerfs" I'll hit them with my stick!

It's a trap!

Neato! I hope everything works out for ya. Any idea who else is heading up, or is that a surprise/up in the air?
PS: Get some sleep.
PPS: Yeah I know. Pot, kettle, etc. :P -
Huh, I didn't realize you wrote an MM guide, Strato. (A good one at that, I might mention.)
You have some interesting Drain Psyche slotting options, but I figure I'll throw mine out there:
2 Numinas (Heal/End/Rech, Heal/Rech)
1 Misc Heal (Heal/Rech)
2 Efficacy Adaptors (EndMod/Acc, EndMod/Acc/Rech)
1 Perfomance Shifter (EndMod/Acc/Rech)
Using lvl39s, that yields ~62% Acc/EndMod/Heal, 95% rech, and 19% end reduc. -
I met Posi & Lighthouse last year at the NCSoft booth, but I wasn't feeling up to the meeting and skipped it. (I regret it, too.) I plan on attending this year.

I think it's safe to assume that all tankers will have a secondary.
[/ QUOTE ]
But not exactly representing FACT when you decide to compare primaries on their own merits.
[/ QUOTE ]
You have to weigh the facts with logic. Aggro management isn't just what Tanker Primary powers are for. The taunt aura is but one small tool. So while that aura may be 90% "worse," it may only negatively impact your aggro handling abilities 5%.
.
[/ QUOTE ]
From my experience, taunt auras play a much, much bigger role than just "5%." -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
So what does it have an effect on then?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you can find this answer, let me know. Nothing as far as the knowledge we have tells us.
[/ QUOTE ]
MAG determines whether a mob is effected by the taunt. If a mob has taunt protection (like BP masks) then the MAG would come into play. For the most part, mobs don't have taunt protection, so it doesn't make a difference.
---
edit: Source!
[ QUOTE ]
All magnitude does for taunt is determine if the Taunt is strong enough to affect the target. It's generally not a factor (unless you are fighting +5's and relying only on gauntlet effects or Pool Powers.)
[/ QUOTE ]
---
Also, after playing my WP/Fire again tonight, let me state my frustration with RttC's taunt; it's horrible. I doubt I'd make a WP Tank again because of it. -
Holy... I knew the CoH team was small, but 15 people?! I never imagined it'd be that tiny. Good lord.
Hats off to you guys, you had me fooled. You guys have been packing so much into recent issues I thought there were more of you behind the scenes than that. -
Alright, if you want errors...
Something else that's been around for a while (even the previous incarnation of CoD), Unyielding states it has a 4% defense debuff when in game it is a 3.75% defense debuff. Is that a rounding error? -

Sliick! I didn't realize you had this thread stashed away in the guide forum. Lots of great new features in this version (allowing you to see raw scalars, defiance, pet links, wow).
I have noticed one bug: I can't find Lightning Rod's pet anymore (manually or by clicking the link).

Lightning Rod. Took a little bit of digging to find.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahh, nice catch! I wonder why it doesn't have any static damage listing for it. No place in the power table for an NPC's damage mods, perhaps?

Yay, gratz, Red. =^_^=b
Now update your site with Willpower and Dual Blades.
*sigh* Would be nice to get really detailed information about the powers again, what with two new sets, and a lot of alterations to how powers work (change to root times for clicks and toggles, new Defiance, different times on Trick Arrow, etc.). Oh wells, still use the site for both making new characters, as well as checking out storyarc info (for making informed decisions on how gimpy I can make my Flashback arcs for badges).
