Ah, glad someone posted the perpendicular ice effects on Ice Sword, means I don't have to upload my screenshot. I can confirm that it's doing this for Dominators for both Ice Sword and Ice Sword Circle, but not the Ice Sword Slash.

Quote:That's true.. apologies I'm not seeing how that changes what I said. Someone asked why there's no option to receive email from global friends, and I said it's probably because email is handled locally. I didn't say it was a good thing, I was just explaining the reason behind the inability.Yes, but you can't /friend an enemy. There is no way for a hero to send a villain email and vice versa.
Quote:But, if I were to /friend someone, they don't get a confirmation to accept right? It's only adding someone to my list, not adding me to theirs. So a spammer can still add someone to their list and send spam, theoretically, even if you have your email settings set to friends only. Makes it a little harder to spam people, but I don't think it's an end to it. I still think a global system would be the best fix for this even if it means reworking the system. I mean we did just got power color options, this too was 'impossible' for a long time.
Quote:Because the farms fill up the listings.
Because getting insulted for being upset that you were invited to a farm team after specifically saying "Looking for Non-farm AE mission team" with "Stupid n00b, it's AE, of course it's a farm" is irritating.
And listening to people whine they got smacked for their farm mission when it's blatantly against the rules is irritating too. -
The feeds work fine for me too, syndicated to MyYahoo!. (No preview, alas, but them's small fry.)

Quote:If I had to guess I'd say it's because email is local. You can't send an email to someone on your global list, and you can't list someone's global name in the "to" field. With good reason - how would that work? If someone sent an email to your global handle, would you get that email on every toon? It'd be nice to say you just get it on the first toon you log in to, or it would be nice to say we have a global email inbox, but the game isn't set up that way. Email is server specific, ergo, email options are local/server specific.* There is now an in-game email setting to block all email except from those on your friends list or in your supergroup.
What is the reason for leaving out Global Friends? With everybody's zillion alts, the Friends list is impossible to maintain, while extended coalitions means the people you play with extend across multiple supergroups.
The Global Friends list, meanwhile, acts as the central repository of the people you know. That's the main list I'd like to whitelist, and really the only meaningful list of the three, but that's the only one that isn't used?
Colour me confused. -

I recorded footage during the Candy Monsters 2xXP Weekend Experiment and made an AMV. For those of you unfamiliar with this experiment, the thread can be found here.
The credits/text overlay feature is new to me, so I made a few mistakes with the credits (appearance only, there are no factual errors or anything)... but it's already WAY PAST my bedtime (again!!) and I have a mountain of work waiting for me when I go in tomorrow, so I was in a hurry. Still, I am overall very happy with the video, and of course I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST. Thanks to all the Candy Monsters, and to everyone who kept us company in Vent and who followed us on Twitter. And now without further ado:
Candy Monsters high-rez (30MB) and low rez (11MB)
Warning: end credits song is "Now You're a Man" which is mildly NSFW due to language. -
I am honored to be part of this experiment. :]
I've been recording bits and pieces of our adventure, I'll be making an AMV once we're done.

5 year badge is per character! OH the humanity!
I don't know if it worth the trouble of logging on all forty some characters, some of whom haven't respec'd since diversification, (well yet anyway). Or just live without. What is worse is IF I log them all on I will want to move them all to new Day Job positions and probably get sucked back into playing 1 or 2. Drat!
Plus all the new characters I make after this won't have the badge unless I start creating them now (which I've done before filling a server with characters to play later). I go get back and play them but inevitably I end up wishing I'd done something different with 1 or 2.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is exactly why I only allow myself to have ONE badger. Not even one hero and one villain, nope! Just BubbleYumm. Because I knew if I started trying to collect badges on other toons, I would drive myself even more crazy. (I mean, yanno, aside from getting badges for appropriate-title purposes on other toons.) -
Much amusement for all the DOOMsayers who don't know AM from PM and are throwing a fit because they think the Devs hate us so much they'd only put on a gig like this for an hour. During a workday. Also: much love for the community, because we have so few DOOMsayers as compared to some other games.
Though I will say I wish we'd had more heads-up. I don't know if this was a somewhat last minute decision, or if they wanted to wait until so close to the event for some other reason.. but very inconvenient to find out about this stuff so last minute. I have so little PTO saved up, and I already took last Friday off because of a car accident.. Sigh. I mean, of course I'm going to have to take the day off, it's inconceivable that I wouldn't... oh well. I'm sure there's a good reason we're only being told about it now.
Regardless of the real-world obstacles, I think it's totally awesome that a party has been arranged in any case. It has been a GREAT five years, and I'm looking forward to five (or ten, or a hundred) more! I'll be here until they physically shut off the servers, so of course I have to show up for the big anniversary shindig! (I just t'other day calculated how much money I've paid to PlayNC so far for City and in-game items. Total comes to over $800. Not bad for five whole years of loving entertainment!)
See you on Wednesday! -

War Witch, the best thing to come out of those awful CoH promotional comics way back in the before time. I actually think I have them lying around still in a box...
Wonder how much they'd be worth now! D:

Wow, I totally disagree. I loved the original comics, they actually felt like part of the game. I hated the new comics featuring Freedom Phalanx from the very first issue - I disliked the art, the characters' attitudes, the storylines. I stopped reading them fairly quickly, but I still have every issue of the original series. -

I was planning on being there - until I realized just how little the Dev's care about the Meet and Greet. Last year Posi blew it off to speak on a panel. This year, they can't even make the effort to find a venue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Shut yer hole. Ex Libris has been busting her butt working with the community, those of us who live in Seattle, to find a suitable venue. Try reading the Community tracker to see all the posts about it. Not to mention the plenty of PM's that you're not privvy to.
Ignorant posting for the lose.

While it does seem that the person you replied to was uninformed, being rude wouldn't really help the situation. There are much more tactful ways to handle these kinds of situations, which are usually more likely to elicit the desired response. As opposed to just starting a name-calling flamewar, or something.
[ QUOTE ]
Posi's situation was that Jack was supposed to be there, but couldn't make it because his wife was having a baby, and Posi had to go do the panel instead.
Understandable circumstances methinks.

[/ QUOTE ]
I think that might be a little unfair. I don't know about Posi's situation, but having been on a constaff before, I know that your panel guests are selected ahead of time. If one of the panel guests doesn't show up, that really sucks for all the people who signed up to hear that person speak. If the M&G is scheduled at the same time that one of the devs is supposed to be at a panel, they can't do much about that. Also, one of the rednames did mention that they were having a hard time finding a venue, but that didn't mean they'd given up. You probably wouldn't have had much luck either. Another thing I've had the (mis)fortune to experience is trying to plan meetings/dinners and so on (for corporate board meetings in this case) and restaurants want a specific headcount before they'll reserve anything for you. -

Sorry Bug, I think the silly drama ignored you!I guess being able to turn into a PPD hardsuit permanently is enough to forget what this thread is really about; PAX and hanging out with fellow CoX'rs.

When a redname opens up an official "Talk about the PPD hardsuit issue here" thread, I will move the discussion there. Until then, you have no authority to dictate the direction of this thread, since the PPD hardsuit issue is obviously related to the event in question.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um no one is trying to dictate authority over you. Some of us who are going to PAX would just like to enjoy this convention, and find it unfortunate that the thread is full of controversy over in-game exclusives now.
I really think the mods should have made a separate thread, and I did actually PM Ex requesting that. But in the meantime, there is really no need to be hostile here. I'm sorry if folks are bent-out-of-shape over exclusives, but that's no reason to take it out on those of us who just want to enjoy a fun event, regardless of what digital trinket we may or may not get for attending.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ohh, so you're saying that they was no implication that we should stop talking about the PPD hardsuit issue? I misunderstood the intent of those replies, then. -

BTW, part of it, is that these are permanent. And will continue to be permanent for any characters they create in the future. If these were temp powers...even if these were somewhat better temp powers...it would still be annoying, but at least it would only be for a period, and at some time, things will be back as they were.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with this, whole heartedly. When I first found out that powers were going to be given out at cons, I was very upset. Then, I thought I heard they would only be temporary. (There may be a case where this is still true.) And I'm totally fine with that. Getting to play with some neat toy for a few months after a con is totally fine. But getting something permanent that I will never be able to have? That upsets me.
[ QUOTE ]
I'd pay 10 bucks a shot for that. Am I whining? No. I'm just suggesting a future course of action. Please stop ripping into people that have a different opinion than the "hardline" It's really rather rude, and degrades those of us who are voicing legitimate arguments.
[/ QUOTE ]
This. Let me repost something I used in an LJ discussion about the same topic:
[ QUOTE ]
It's like the difference between telling a depressed-person that they have no right to be depressed, versus telling them not to kill themselves. In the second instance you are tellin them to not take a certain action because you find that action (killing themselves) to be unreasonable. Telling them that they have no right to be depressed, or that they're depressed over something trivial, is completely invalidating that person's opinions and emotions. Does that make sense?
[/ QUOTE ]
The person then said that it wasn't a fair comparison because depression is caused by a chemical imbalance and can't be helped. To which I responded:
[ QUOTE ]
I wasn't making a comparison, I was trying to use an analogy to illustrate my point. People are entitled to their opinion whether or not you find them to be reasonable. I dislike PvP, that doesn't mean I think people who like PvP are unreasonable. I love curry, that doesn't mean I think people who don't like curry are unreasonable. People can feel about things however they want to feel about them. And to be fair, there is an enormous group of people who are upset that the PPD hardsuit is being given away to a small group of people. We are well within our right to say "I am disappointed with this decision. I would like to see this made available in some other way. Also, I would like the devs to show up to more conventions, including on the east coast, if they're going to continue to do things like this." Even if we were voicing concern over something absolutely retarded, like the "I want a green pixel instead of blue" I mentioned above - we're well within our right to voice our concern. That's why they're opinions. And your attitude still makes it seem like people are not entitled to an opinion that differs from yours.
[/ QUOTE ]
Back to my replies within this thread:
[ QUOTE ]
And for people, going on about fairness, on princable i see your point, i do, but, the truth is, LIFE isn't fair, on so many more GRAND levels then this... it just seems to trivial to fight over. It might not be fair, but it's a game where talking about, not some kid stricken with cancer or aids or something, which from the HATE and VENOM, and PASSION i read in some of these postes, you'd THINK was the case.
Prospictive people...
[/ QUOTE ]
First of all, I don't know what "Prospictive" is, but I have excellent perspective. If we took your stance we might not have many of the things in the game that we have now, which many people enjoy. Trench coats, Pocket D, wings ... who knows what would have made it into the game if we'd never asked for them? But there are many things that we've suggested that the Devs might never have thought of on their own. So are you suggesting that we should just go along with everything the Devs do and never voice our concerns? I think it's excellent that so many of us are so passionate about this product that we want to make it better. If we had no suggestions, wouldn't that mean we didn't care? I agree that the calls for crusades, the hate, the namecalling, all of it is ineffective and unwarranted. But we all have a right to express our opinions, even if it's in a passionate manner.
[ QUOTE ]
If they sell it, you will have people complaining that NCNC is greedy, grabbing for money, and that CoX is becoming "all about microtransactions". And no matter what the price is set at, it will be "too high" for many.
[/ QUOTE ]
So what you're saying is that the people who complain about NCNC offering things for money are "more valid" than the people who are upset that something is being given to a small group of people, and will be absolutely unavailable forever for most of the population. That the "nickle and dime" complainers are more important than the people who want to at least have the option to access all of the game's content.
[ QUOTE ]
I miss when the majority of the posts here were constructive. They seem so far between anymore.
[/ QUOTE ]
So it's more constructive to tell people that their opinion is invalid and that they have no right to get upset about something just because you're not upset about it? -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Oh for heavan's sake, it's a stupid costume. Does it make you character fly faster? Does it make a Blaster shoot farther? Does it make a Brutes muscles shinier? No, so quite %^&ching or stop playing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank god it doesn't. I don't like WoW.
[/ QUOTE ]
And now I have to quote YOU for truth.
No one (that I have yet read) is saying this breaks the game. I'm not going to quit over this. But I am tired of being yelled at for expressing an opinion. Isn' that what forums are for, in part? Yes, to ask questions and share information, but also to voice opinions? As I mentioned to someone else, "What, I have to be vomiting rainbows or keep my mouth shut?" We are expressing displeasure in the hopes that circumstances will change. We're not making threats, we're not being trolls or starting flame wars. People are being civil and, once again, just expressing their disappointment. And while you have just as much right to tell us to shut up, at least *WE* are not being rude. -
[ QUOTE ]
Alright, then how about for $9.95 make it so we can get ALL the Halloween costumes as permanent temp powers? They're allready in the game.
I have never liked in-game items being given as rewards. Maybe it's because I live in the midwest and will NEVER have any of the stuff, so Im just bitter, but when World of Warcraft does it every year, it annoys me because I can't afford to go to Blizzcon, I will never have a murloc pet, a murloc costume, or I think their new thing this year is a Polar Bear Mount.
So, give it away for free to the convention goers, sure... but let those of us willing to purchase it do so.
[/ QUOTE ]
Vehemently seconded. I'd pay. I don't even have the $10 to spare, but I'd pay. I can go without eating for a day! -
I'm still disappointed that there's absolutely no way, at all, ever for me to have access to this power. I'm not arguing or complaining, just expressing disappointment.
(To be clear, I realize there are permanent things that are difficult to obtain, or cost money. I spent the $10 each on the GvE pack and the Wedding pack. Gold titles are rare and hard to get, but at least there are contests every once in a while that allow people to try to get them. Making something available only to people who already live out on the west coast, or have the money to fly out there for a convention, does seem a little unfair. Oh well.) -
I agree with those who are saying the Devs have to keep their mouths shut about new features. I'd rather they did. They announced The Vault back in January and we still haven't seen it. I want to see this feature. Let me rephrase: I VERY MUCH want to see this feature. I realize they've run into some snags and they're working on it. But it's frustrating having known about it all this time and still not getting my hands on it. I'm still kinda glad I know that this feature is coming eventually, because it's made me relax about keeping my CGT page up to date. I've created my own toon page which will hopefully be replaced by my Vault page later. But still, part of me wishes they hadn't announced it, because I'm just sitting here WANTING it and not GETTING it.
Regarding the features that the devs "could" be working on...
[ QUOTE ]
more options in customizing our characters... in other words... more base stuff, more enchancements, more accolades, more costume options, more powers, more power customization, more ATs, and most importantly more stuff that allows me to continue to play a character and continuously improve it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Power Customization: We've been told that they would have to revamp the entire game engine. I know it's been explained but I didn't catch it all. I know a lot of the colors are hard coded, and then it was said that even if they weren't hard coded to the powers, they're still additive. Well, that doesn't bother me much, since ... isn't that how the auras work anyway? We already have to deal with additive colors. Darker colors are very faint and almost don't show up at all, lighter colors can practically blind you. If we had to deal with that for power customization I'm sure we'd all be happy to do it. However, that would take an awful lot of time. Maybe they could come up with some extras-pack and sell it to us for $10 each and hire someone to JUST go through and make all those changes ... but if they're saying it just can't be done, it probably can't.
Re: More customizing - they are constantly adding more costume pieces. And the invention system does exactly what you're asking for - there are more enhancements and more things to work towards with your high level characters. My level 50 badge hunter is still working on her crafting badges. And they just added two more ATs (Villain Epics). And with power proliferation, there are a lot more combinations. And they're working on more powersets, they've added several since the game went live. (Archery, Trick Arrow, Sonic Resonance, Sonic Attack, Mental Manipulation, Willpower, Dual Blades, not to mention everything released with CoV, and anything else I missed..)
And to be honest, I am glad that there's an endgame. I am glad to have my level 50s, and I like playing them when I feel like it. Yes, I've rolled up new characters and I am enjoying other powerset combinations. I would love to reach a day where all of my characters are 50 and I just run around exemping with whomever wants to team. Not to mention that they *have* added new high end content - that's what Cimeroa is. More stuff for higher level characters to do. They don't have to increase the level cap for that.
I don't feel at all "cheated" when I get to 50. It allows me to be more relaxed with the character; I don't have to worry about getting debt anymore, and I can exemp down with my friends without "missing out" on XP. And I don't even start working on my IO sets until very high level, so that gives me an excellent reason to run through the high end content to earn recipes and salvage. So I guess all I can say is that I don't see it at all in the same light that you do, which is probably why I've stuck around for so long. -
[ QUOTE ]
Also, assuming there are 100,000 subscribers at $15 that's a 1.5mil income per month or 18mil income a year...
[/ QUOTE ]
Not that it makes a huge dent in your math, but there are a large number of us that pay yearly, and so pay less than $15 per month. It's more like $11.95 if I remember correctly. Still a lot of money per month, but like BaB already said: They have a lot to pay for. Businesses are expensive to run. I know this, I pay the bills for the company I work for.
