While you're looking at Claws, maybe the Spines graphics can get a badly needed update into somethign more aesthetically pleasing? Ever since COH Beta, there have been on-again, off-again spurts of players bringing up how dissatisfied with the graphics for Spines they are. Let's face it, the set is hideous. The spines look like tree branches with the bark stripped off. They are so huge that they're actually bigger than the character in some cases, I mean they actually clip off of the hands of the character when they're extended. Additionally, the set is really bad for female characters; some of the spines on the upper torso are just... shall we say, uncomfortably situated.
Thorny Assault is similar but vastly improved. No clipping issues, slimmer and sharper spines, and no uncomfortably placed spines for females.
You have the graphical capability. At the very least, change them to something similar to the long shoulder spikes in the Shoulders costume creator menu.
I've got a character concept for a slim, trim young female Spines Stalker. I like the Spines powers, but I just can't stomach the graphics. After more than a year and a half, it's really high time they were fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
No word on any graphics updates, then? -
The 13% discount is not enough.
We lost Endurance recovery when Stamina was nerfed. Reducing Endurance usage does not help. Not enough to make a difference. You're still going to hit the bottom of your bar, and when you do, unless the power costs literally nothing to use, it doesn't matter how much less it costs now than it cost before. What matters is how fast you get that Endurance back.
Even in COV where the ATs were supposedly designed with this in mind, I still have Endurance issues.
Increase the base Endurance recovery rate. Now. It's the only acceptable solution. -

EDIT: _Castle_ you rock. Can we assume you're the Scrapper rep? If not, will you be? We need someone like you. We're an unruly lot.

I hardly ever do this, but... Quoted For Truth. -

You call mediocrity not being able to fight +5 purples anymore without any help AT ALL?....Throw a silly taunt and aggro 16 thugs like flies to garbage? HE-LLO!!!
What do you miss? The out-blown defenses we got from 32+?....Herding half the map set on invincible?.
[/ QUOTE ]Looks to me that aqshy was asking you to clairfy what you meant by "mediocre", not if you called (notice the lack of the past tense in the quote) it being able to fight +5 purples and herding half the map. Not only were you answering a question with a question, you answered a question that wasn't even asked!
Physician, heal thyself.
[/ QUOTE ]
And your reading comprehension is abysmal.
Aqshy was not asking for clarification. Go read his post again. No, on second thought, don't bother. I'd point out exactly what he was saying, but something tells me you would deny that he was in fact saying that.
Once again we see that subtlety is wasted on the simple-minded.
I will spend no more time on someone of your paltry intelligence quotient. -

You know, I always have found it funny that almost everyone on the dev team says "Claws is really a very good set," when players repeatedly bring it up as falling short.
There's one reason for this; the interminable animation times.
Let's take one of Spines' best attacks, Impale. This is a high damage, ranged Slowing Immobilize with DOT and -Fly. For all that, the long animation ("Here's the windup, and the pitch!") is entirely justified and even expected. It's still a great power.
Now, compare that to Claws' third attack, Slash. Same exact windup-and-pitch animation, but none of the benefits. It's just melee lethal damage. Oh, and a -Def, which is pretty minor and, let's face it, doesn't stack up to a ranged Slowing Immobilize. With DOT. And -Fly. Swipe is the same way; minor damage, but you're stuck with that horrid flailing animation for around two seconds. That's a long time for such a weak attack.
The Claws set is supposed to be a blender on legs. That's not really what it delivers, and that's why people pipe up with their dissatisfaciton when they don't get it (as I'm doing now).
On paper, the numbers for Claws may be great, but I have yet to see the animation times be taken into account by this, and in practice the set is SLOW. Worse, it even FEELS slow. I love the concept behind claws, I've got character ideas that should be claw users, but I cannot STAND the set. Relatively low damage, highly resisted (lethal being the second most resisted damage type in the game), and the ridiculously long animation times all add up to underperformance and a poor "feeling" to the set.
Could we get Claws looked at? I mean, looked at beyond the spreadsheets and numbers on paper and at the actual function of the set? I want a claws character, but the set needs work before I can stomach it. -
It's called a rhetorical question, because the answer is obvious.

So no, after investing that much time in a character I'm not happy with mediocrity, especially when it's enforced mediocrity.

Welcome to a more balanced game.
What do you miss? The out-blown defenses we got from 32+?....Herding half the map set on invincible?....You are just addicted to what became a broken AT in the late levels. If you really invested all those hours in your tank and erased it like he was level 5....read your Abraham Lincon's quote!!!
2 SG friends did the skyraiders AND freaks respec trial as a duo. Illusion/rad controller and Ice/Ice blaster. It wasn't a surprise they could do it, but.....A mission which should be based on teamwork is duo'ed and people say the game's balanced?!?!.......When I fancied it, I could solo invincible missions designed for 6/7 people (except AV and heavy Psi opponents). I fought +7 carnies when I got a "look for 45 carnies in the streets of PI" (without ring mistresses or master illusionists). I could herd half the friggin' Dreck mission map. I'm sure you could do that too. If that's what made you great in other people's eye, there were 100,000 others like you. Stroking your online ego is gratifying, but....get real....

You need to read that another hundred times boy because this:
[ QUOTE ]
With the direction the dev team is going, they ought to simply remove the tank archetype completely for as much use as they'll be.
[/ QUOTE ]
Proves nothing and makes Abraham Lincon right.
Anyway, it's been amusing. Keep up your lost crusade, I'll be playing and having fun with my tank and other assorted characters....ah, you won't be able to play your tank, you erased it.....
[/ QUOTE ]
Did I say mediocrity equaled the inability to fight +5s? Did I say anything at all about herding Dreck maps? I despise herding, it's incredibly boring. Did you not notice where I said I had not been powerleveled even one level?
Stroking my online ego has no place here. If you'll read what I said, I never claimed that I was a great tank. I would not make such a claim when I know there are a lot of other great tankers out there, some of whom I personally admired. It was something that other players, and not just a few, said to me. I'm not going to deny that it was true, because from their perspective, it probably was.
Once again you're ascribing motives and practices to me that you cannot support and attributing things to me that I did not say.
Besides all that, if someone cannot even spell, capitalize, or punctuate correctly, their intelligence is most likely not high enough to take their arguments seriously. There's another quote applicable to this situation: "Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."
But please, do continue, it's quite amusing to watch your mental and linguistic flailings. -

I already did. You might be happy with mediocrity, but I'm not.
Next?
[/ QUOTE ]
You erased your pvl'd tank because you couldn't adjust and you use the mediocrity card?.....The irony of this post is.....amazing! lol
[/ QUOTE ]
I erased by Tank because the changes that started back in I3 with Rage rendered her a chore to play rather than a joy. I never once powerleveled her. Every level was earned by playing. I'd tapped out every contact in the game, done every storyline, fought every AV multiple times, taken on multiple reactor trials above and beyond what I needed for respec purposes to help others out or just for fun. Multiple people told me I was the best tanker they'd ever teamed with. So no, after investing that much time in a character I'm not happy with mediocrity, especially when it's enforced mediocrity.
A wise man by the name of Abraham Lincoln once said:
"Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."
You ought take that to heart.
My original point still stands. With the direction the dev team is going, they ought to simply remove the tank archetype completely for as much use as they'll be. -
I already did. You might be happy with mediocrity, but I'm not.
Next? -
Good lord.
Just bite the bullet and remove the Tanker archetype from the game, already.
I love how this was put in with NO announcement whatsoever. -

Darnit all. If I can't defeat a mission single-handedly every time without having to ever worry about dying, what's the point of me being a hero?
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny, I didn't read any such sentiment in his post. Sounded to me like he was just saying that he'd rather the missions/mobs changed instead of the heroes. Next time you decide to wow us all with your witty sarcasm, you might want to reply to a post that's at least relevant to your comment.
Or just troll...that's always fun too.
[/ QUOTE ]I wasn't responding to any specific post in particular.

So it's just random trolling instead. That's always fun. -
[ QUOTE ]
I5 has corrected a lot of "man that's just plain broken" that existed in CoH. While I disagree with the method of the corrections in some cases I cannot argue with the result.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you can call replacing old imbalances with new ones corrections, then sure, I agree with you. Unfortunately the new problems are just as bad as the old ones. Tanks are now superfluous, for example. Suppression makes travel powers just as imbalanced as they were before, just in different ways, and without fixing the alleged problems it was supposed to fix.
I'd rather have the old imbalances. At least you could feel like a superhero with them. -
[ QUOTE ]
My response to Issue 5 was initially extremely negative.
Now that I5 has gone live, my view is tempered somewhat...
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately I can't quote the post because it's incredibly long, but Jentia_Argool has posted one of the most brilliantly analytical summations of the problems behind I5 and its design philosophy that has ever been put up on these boards.
Excellent job Jentia, kudos to you.
It's unfortunate that the developers will take no notice of it. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't know why you or your friends' tankers are having so much trouble. The tankers I've teamed with have been certainly capable of handling their job on a team.
They just couldn't do it with us /em boombox at the door though.
This to me is a good thing, I'd like to have the feeling that me being on a team matters for more than padding the spawn sizes. I like thinking that the increase in mission difficult in response to my presence is mitigated by my contribution and that without my contribution things will be a lot harder for everyone.
[/ QUOTE ]
You are, of course, quite welcome to think that. The reality of the situation will not change, however. -
[ QUOTE ]
Its a game where tankers can do their job but can't do a team-level job without team-level support.
[/ QUOTE ]
And what's the name of this game? Because it certainly isn't City of Heroes.
I would love it if COH were this game.
[ QUOTE ]
Its a game where two or three tankers on a team isn't one or two too many.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh yes it is. But not for the reasons you would cite. A team with three tankers is going to be much less effective than a team that has something else in their place. -
Once you hit 50 with any character, Kheldians are unlocked permanently on your account. I know, I deleted my level 50 Invul tank. I can still make Kheldians. I don't want to, I dislike them greatly, but I can.
-
I just want to say that I've been with the game since Beta, second wave, and I've never seen such widespread discontent as I have with I5, or even more critical, the loss of faith in the dev team, which as far as I can recall NEVER happened (outside of a few malcontents) until the idea of Suppression came along. Yet now even longtime supporters and COH diehard fans (such as, arguably, myself) are expressing disappointment, frustration, even anger and disillusionment. That's not counting those who have actually left and been banned from expressing their voice because their accounts are now inactive.
I think you folks in the Dev team might want to sit up and take notice of what exactly is going on here. So far, it doesn't even look like it's fazed you. -
Very dissatisfied with I5.
Please re-evaluate what the purpose of the game is. Also please cease trying to tell us when we're having fun. I know myself well enough to know what I find fun. I found the game fun enough before I5. I5 only served to reduce my fun, contrary to the claims that it would, in fact, increase it.
Please re-evaluate the changes that Tankers suffered. They no longer fit that job description. Also please re-evaluate Controllers' role and whether or not they're supposed to be the current Defender/Blaster hybrid rather than someone who does what their job description says they do; namely, control.
And I know it's supposed to be a dead issue, but please re-evaluate (and remove) Suppression from the game. It still causes frustration and feels like a bug instead of a feature of the game.
The free Memorial Day week brought me back for a month, but it certainly won't keep me. The fun doesn't last any more. -
I was in Beta, and I have said this before. This game has a great dev team, one of the best I've seen. Thanks, Geko.
However, one thing stood out glaringly to me in your commandment list:
[ QUOTE ]
*I will do my best to continue to make this game fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
The recent changes do not follow this commandment. In fact ever since I3 it's been a downhill trend (Rage and it's ten second ADHD syndrome is a perfect example... no, it's still not fun, and nothing's been done about it). To be honest, as great as the dev team is, I'm convinced that there has been a fundamental disconnect between what the dev team thinks players consider fun and what the players actually consider fun. I don't know when this happened, but it's very noticeable; Issue 4 was the last straw and destroyed the fun of the game for me and many others. I think you need to re-evaluate how you're going about trying to achieve this commandment. -
[ QUOTE ]
However on a thematic note I do wish they would give Rage some Fear defense. In fact my idea for Rage would be this:
1) Damage & ACC boost as is.
2) Duration & recharge times as is.
3) While Active Rage halves magnitude of all status protection.
4) Provides very strong Fear protection.
So there is a disadvantage while the power is running, not for 10 seconds when it ends.
Alternatively if the Devs aren't looking at this thread (which is my guess) would they please lock it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, that's... brilliant. I could totally get behind that change (although almost anything would be better than what we have now). Unfortunately the tradeoff is engineered for PvP and is a little heavy for PvE, since almost nothing in PvE uses Fear powers. They'd have to add Fear-using perps to make that really attractive. Still, it'd be better than what we have now.
And I agree about Taunt, I despise it too. -
The subject faded away because it's been ignored by the red names, and eventually people will tire of ramming against brick walls. Most SS tankers have are living with Rage as it is and trying to make the best of it, not because they enjoy it, but because there is no alternative and no apparent hope of one.
My posts have been general posts directed to nobody but the dev team. I've not argued with anyone other than you (if you can even call it arguing), and that's only because of your insufferably superior attitude and your insinuations that my opinions somehow don't matter because you don't like them. I'm mad at you, and that happens rarely. Hence I'm ignoring you from now on. -
Well... Thank you. You're the first person to ever say that. I came up with it more than ten years ago and it's been my "coat of arms", so to speak, ever since.
We now return you to our regularly scheduled thread.
