I remember my tank being on a team of 8 (good friends) and watching them all get butchered by the 5th (remember them?) and being the last man standing...then taking down every one of those Column punks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I remember being one of two healers on a team of 8 friends getting butchered by 5th column while the Invul. Tanker was able to withstand everything thrown at him, but wasn't able to clear the room himself. I was the Recovery Healer, while the other healer was the front lines healer. I retrieved and rezzed, and he did the healing. We were finally able to overcome tohe group, and I remember thinking, "Now this is a challenge. Having to gradually overcome these guys!"

    * I remember having Smoke grenade and flying through enemies for hours on hours, and STILL not being able to level past level 32. *sigh*
  2. * I remember getting into the Beta a week after a friend who "May or May not have gotten a Beta invite"

    * I remember getting miffed when you went one stop too many on the Tram, and then had to go all the way back around.

    * I remember the first time I saw in-game footage of the game, and hearing the guy explaining how you could sit and watch the lady get her purse stolen.

    * I remember the first time we figured out that while the servers went down after the Beta hours ended, if you were in the costume creator when it ended, you could stay in there.

    * I remember thinking a couple of weeks after launch, "It's so hard to come up with a good name". Gives me a chuckle these days.

    * I remember my first day in Beta. I was stuck in Outcast, because there were no Spawns. Apparently the tutorial zone wasn't instancing like it was supposed to.

    * I remember believing that "before too much longer, we'll have Vehicles, and Water Zones, and Power customizations". Ahhh, the naive days.

    * I remember the days when you would be the only one in the group that knew how to do something. "Don't worry guys! I've done this respec mission 4 times. We've only got 3 more waves!"

    * I remember the day that the Cape mission went online. And trying to limp your way through the absolutely unbelievable lag and Zone crashes to try and get one.

    * I remember the first time I heard the Atlas Park music sound over my speakers.

    * I remember getting hover for the first time, and flying to the top of the Atlas statue.

    * I remember jumping off a skyscraper for the first time, and feeling my stomach in my throat.

    ....ahhh, the good old days.

Lets see who will get the closest to guessing when update 4 will go live.... I guess...March 25....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Man, I hope not. The PSP comes out the 24th, and barring the suprise inclusion of City of Heroes PSP as a launch title, I won't be able to touch CoH for a little bit. That being said...I would REALLY like to see I4 the week before March 24. So yeah, my money is on March 25th. I'm good friends with Murphy, so I know how it goes.

As a former programming track director for Dragon*Con, I can speak with at least some authority as to how the convention operates in terms of guest appearances.

They don't pay speaker fees. They rarely pay travel costs either. Unless you're a big star - lead role in a syndicated series, main cast member of a show like one of the Treks or Stargate, or a main character in a good-sized movie, you'll pay your own way to get there, though they'll pick you up at the airport. Hotel room is usually covered, and sometimes, a relatively small per-diem. Basically, if you can't fill a large room for a panel presentation, they're not going to pay your way to the con, nor pay for you to be there. This, I know for a fact, at least the way it worked when I was with the convention, from my efforts to secure the presence of several of the actors from the show my track was about.

Free dealer tables are almost exclusively out of the question. Autograph tables are provided, but they're not free, either. (This is to the best of my knowledge, as I wasn't very involved in this aspect).

Dragon*Con tries to not announce guests of any kind until they're sure they'll be there, but occasionally, they jump the gun. As you might imagine with a convention that entertains 20,000+ attendees, it requires a rather large volunteer staff, and sometimes, communications among them are not the best, so mistakes happen.

Choose to believe me, or not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sure, understandable. Though Dragoncon didn't jump the gun. It was Cryptic that announced they would be attending. DragonCon never announced they would be there. Which is another reason that led me to believe that Cryptic failed to register in time, and that was why they canceled. Statesman had said "Yeah we'll be there", and as the time we neared, we kept saying, "Umm...guys, you aren't showing up on their lists." Eventually, like a week before the con, they come and say, "Yeah, we won't be there"

So yeah, moot point. Obviously, they aren't changing their mind. But they had a whole year to work out whatever problems they had with the Con, and that's what they should've done after canceling last second last year.

Anyways, not paying guests unless they can fill a room doesn't so much matter in this case, because....they probably could. And not giving away free booths? If Cryptic can't pay for a table at a con, then the servers should be shutting down any day now.

Yeah. How's about you don't screw DragonCon over this year by saying. "Oh by the way...we're not coming to that con next week!" Honestly, after doing that, that should've been the first Con visit you announced.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They didn't screw DragonCon. It was more the other way around. There was a posting at the time that explained it in circular language to avoid stepping on people's toes. There are some players here on the boards who know the backstory better than me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I heard the story. Frankly I don't believe it. They had only announced DC like 3 weeks before it was scheduled to occur, if that. By that point, DC had already closed their vendor registrations and whatnot. I imagine they got caught outside. In anycase, it's not a matter of who screwed who, it's a matter of trying harder to make sure all of your fans have the chance to get some of the pie.

    Dragon Con - no.

What exactly do you have against the Southeastern U.S.? You skipped D*C last year after hitting practically every Con in America and now you're skipping it AGAIN?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I feel your pain man. They had already announced it, then went back on their announcement. Rubbish. Way to treat the Southeastern US. You got something against good College Basketball?

    Wizard Worlds - definitely.
    Gen Con - definitely.

Our great OCR team is going to post a convention calendar so that you can see when we'll be in your neck of the woods. Don't worry - I'll be going to cons in the Northeast, West, MidWest and Texas...

  9. Didn't they get "Pushed back to Issue 4" from Issue 3 already? Really, some of these things are getting pretty bothersome. Same thing has been happening with Global chat for the past 2 issues. There are some pretty amazing things that are going to revolutionize the game out there, but we keep getting them pushed back. Been here since beta, and I've always heard that "You can't compare the content in this game to other games, because we just came out. Wait a year, then you'll see that it's a completely different" game. Well guess what? We are coming upon our 1 year anniversary, and we still don't have our promised Gameplay additions. Arenas don't cut it. They are great, but they don't add alternatives to combat, they just vary the combat a little bit. I absolutely love this game, but it gets rather repetitive after a while. Mission changes, new zones, new trials, they are all great. I love them. But they don't add the variety to the game that is missing. Is there a chance that you guys can up the number of programmers working on Updates? These delays are losing you customers, and us potential teammates. Partially, this is thanks to all the new games. But the reality is that if delays and empty promises become the norm here, some of these people won't be returning. I love this game, but there is only so long that I can keep grinding. It's been nearly a year now, and I think we deserve something new by this point. This is a serious hit to my excitement if your telling us it's going to be 3 1/2 months before we get to start testing these skills. I'm saddened.
  10. Thanks for the update. Though it is funny that this has been the same answer given since it was first going to be released a week or so after Issue 2 ("Oh yeah, we are just waiting for it to run through QA!" QA: "Guys, please stop blaming everything on us!")

    What about the oh-so-vaunted #3?

    3) Playing with lower level friends.

It's the devs that decided what Exemplar-ing should be, not us. All we asked for is #3, but we assumed that there would be a similar benefit to Exemplaring as there is to Sidekicking.

    It just ain't so.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Does this LOOK like a Burger King to you? You don't get everything YOUR way.

You assumed you'd get everything handed to you on a silver platter. You assumed that if you whined about something enough, you'd get something that would be all benefit, with no downside.

It doesn't work that way. The devs never said it would. They never promised it. If you don't like it, don't use it. But for crying out loud you whiney maggots need to STHU about it.

    It's a dead parrot!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    *cough*Troll!*cough*

Right, so anyways, a bit of constructive complaining. Exemplaring seriously needs to be reevaluated. I don't think it's even working the way it's supposed to work, and that's pretty crappy as it is. The reason I say this is because:

1> You do not get 100% debt payback. It's more like 90%, and the other 10% is lost somewhere in subspace. In my experiences, Duoing as both SK and RSK, the totals on even level minions never come close. Generally, I'll get like 80xp split 40/40 without RSKing on my level 27 character. And when I RSK? 57 debt repay.

2> What about my Influence? Not only am I getting less total experience when I RSK, but What I would normally be earning in Influence also disappears. We should either be recieving The debt repayment PLUS the influence, or the influence should go TOWARD debt repayment. This isn't even to mention the so-called reward that you get after you get out of debt. 100% Influence? Well, basically the XP is converted to Influence. But the Influence you normally earn doesnt seem to be added to the total. So basically, you get your normal influence ammount.

3> 2 steps back, 2 steps forward. 2 steps back, 2 steps forward. For a group of developers that are always stressing Risk vs Reward, there sure is alot of Risk for absolutely no actual reward. It's odd that you can Repay debt, but not actually earn XP....and meanwhile....you can add to your debt as well. So Start at 5k debt, earn back 3k more, die, get 2k debt, and guess what? Your back at 4k debt. Never ending loop of uselessness. Wonder what Gaffer would say about this. He had mentioned his dislike of anything that discouraged you from doing something. This certainly discourages you from using the system.

4> Guys? Enhancements aren't slotted the same way at level 14 as they are at level 40. Targetting Drone, Hasten, and Stamina all dramatically effect the way you slot your powers. Therefor, the so called advantage that players get for having extra slots that they wouldn't normally have? That is nullified by the fact that you have the wrong enhancements slotted for the situation. 6 enhancements slotted as damage is all well and good. But if I lost stamina, then I am suddenly low on Endurance, because I can't replace those damage enhancements with endurance reductions.

Overall, I like the system. I can deal with the loss of powers and what not. But there are some serious logic flaws that need to be addresed before the system meets it's goals properly. The ONLY thing the system is good for is playing with low level friends. And soon to make up missed Missions and whatnot. But it could be a viable tool for getting out of debt and/or making influence, if it worked properly. As it is, it gimps any kind of progress you would've regularly made at your normal level.
