Quote:Part of me agrees with you. My Dual Pistols character was going to be a Paragon PD officer, but the really super flashy animations simply don't fit that concept at all. (Now he's going to be a member of the Resistance, not that the animations really fit a gritty freedom fighter either.)WHo DOES NOT want a fancy gun set? I have been looking forward to dual pistols forever, Thinking that they would be an expanded version of the mastermind pistols powers. Then I saw the video with the preview on it. It looks like the devs saw Equilibrium, and figured, "hey lets make that!" I mean, out of all the characters in literary history who use pistols, the devs had to go and choose the look the most specific and least adaptable?
Granted, "vanilla" animations arent as fancy, but they allow for a MUCH larger range of characters. THis is actually why i prefer alot of the older less fancy costume options as well. I dont want a Gun-fu pistol set. I want a set that I can use as a mercenary... or as a cowboy... or as a 19th century gentleman hero... or as a grimfaced antihero of the 80's.
The differnt ammo types are great. Have always loved the concept, and Im really glad they went with it. But the animations? No thanks. Why is this so hard to do in MMO's. Its not a terribly hard concept. If i have a gun set, i really only want one thing from it: to shoot. I realize that it might be a bit boring, but if i wanted something fancy, I would have picked a fancy set.
I also realize its a little early to make a rant thread... But those animations looked pretty finalized, and you dont just scrap months worth of work at the drop of a hat.
Honestly, there is very little reason left for me to even consider buying going rogue. I dont care about demon summoning. The rest is a graphics upgrade that I might not be even able to use, and some new storylines.
The other part of me realizes that this set was their answer to all the people clamoring about Gun-fu/Gun-kata/wtf ever. It's also specifically NOT generic and boring, because people would complain more about it being "another boring weapon set with stupidly resisted damage."
Honestly though, the animations aren't THAT BAD aside from the mini-nuke (the PBAoE super gun-fu move). -
Quote:Heh, Thanks. I don't own a Shiba myself (or any dog currently for that matterFirst off I love the avatar, I have a 9 month old Shiba myself.
Secondly, I think Electricity has the best animations and sound in game. It would be interesting to see how an Electric control set would play.
I have a Kin/Elec defender and found that I didn't like electricity as much as I thought. The damage was low and the endurance drain wasn't very useful. It seems that badguys don't need endurance to attack. I would roll a Electric Kintroller; I assume an electric controller would do much better damage than an electric defender.) I just think they're adorable.
***
The issue with Mobs and Endurance is that they break the rules. If they have -ANY- endurance at all they can still attack, apparently regardless of if they actually had enough to USE that attack.
The only way to shut them down is complete 100% endurance removal, and even then you need -recovery also, because if they regain even a single tick of end they can start attacking again. -
Indeed. I think that's what leads some people in the audience to shout out "Punch it!" at the very end (right before he finishes off the last clockwork).

YAY electric control!
Hopefully it'll focus suitably well on End Drain as a secondary form of control.
RAMPANT SPECULATION TIME!
Quote:(I make no claims that this is what the set will be, or even that it remotely resembles the set that we end up getting.)(quoted from Lady_Jade's Power Suggestion Box)(yes Oathbound is me)(innactive account)**************************************
Elecrical Control
1) Electric Fence -- Single ranged, Moderate DoT, Fast Recharge, Immobilize, -Endurance, Chance -Recovery
2) Tesla Cage -- Single ranged, Moderate Damage, Moderate Recharge, Hold, -Endurance, -Recovery
3) Electrifying Fences -- AoE, Minor DoT, Moderate Recharge, Immobilize, -Endurance, Chance -Recovery, -Knockback/Knockup
4) Short Circuit -- PBAoE, Moderate DoT, Slow Recharge, -Endurance, -Recovery
5) Static Field -- PBAoE Toggle, Minor Damage, Slow Recharge, -Endurance, -ToHit, -Speed, Chance Sleep
<Kind of a Hotfeet Variant. You energize the area immediately around you, constantly shocking any mobs neaby. the -tohit and -speed is from the shocks causing them to spasm wildly.>
6) Electrostatic Discharge -- Ground Target AoE, Very Long Recharge, Disorient, Knockdown, Self Teleport
<Uses Lightning Rod animation... cause I wants it.>
7) Tesla Field -- AOE, Very Long Recharge, Hold, -Endurance, -Recovery
8) Energy Cascade -- AoE, Damage Special, Long Recharge, -Endruance Special, Ally +Endurance Special
<Technical description; Spawns a pseudo-pet for each foe within the radius. Each pet fires off a pbaoe Damage/End drain/Ally +end power then despawns. Net result is that vs a single target you drain a little end and deal a little damage, but vs multiple targets you deal a fair share of damage and drain a significant amount of end.>
9) Voltaic Construct -- Summon, Very Long Recharge
<An actual targetable pet akin to other controller tier 9s, uses the Cap Gremlin model people love so much. Has Charged Brawl, Havoc Punch, Lightning Strike and summons Voltaic Sentinel. Alternately you could make it summon 2 gremlins, each with Charged Brawl and Havoc Punch, or 3 gremlins each with only Charged Brawl.>

Quote:I'm a bit curious about the recharge on it myself. It seems unlikely that it has a 60second base recharge like RoA or FA, since the gap between it's first two uses was only ~24seconds (there was a gap of 27seconds between activations, with about 3seconds being the power's animation), and Hasten was not used by the character. There's no way to know what the power's slotting was though, or what, if any, set bonuses the character had, so it might still be.Oh, so that was the t9 power. I kind of assumed it'd be the equivalent of typhoon's edge for dual blades. All is well with me, then. I'm thinking pistols/kinetics corrupter would be pretty satisfying.
Edit: Also, totally going with a DP/Traps Corruptor fighting for the resistance (then going to hero side). -
Quote:Sorry for the threadjack, but...This thread is a very good read and is a though provoking discussion to say the least.
Yawgmoth was a very fearsome self created god indeed but there is only one I can think of could beat him and survive, unlike the ones who defeated him. Nicol_Bolas is the strongest planeswalker of all and possibly the most powerful being in the magic multiverse. The only thing that was able to tie him was a mirror image of himself(go figure). It's slightly different since he's a dragon but he gained his powers through his own means.
One of Magic's development team actually made a list of what are considered the most powerful characters within the game canon, and you might be surprised. Yawgmoth was ranked very highly, generally above all the planeswalkers (including Bolas), but the top spot actually went to Karona.
She was the embodyment of all magic. It's just that her life was relatively short, and the character never reached her full potential. (as such she got poorly pwnt)(not to mention her game card was TERRIBLE) -

Quote:The likelyhood is that since the secondary effects change, they will be unenhanceable (at least via enhancements, Power Boost type effects should still buff them).
Maybe I missed it but where or when was it said you could switch ammo on the fly? The only thing regarding the ammo I saw in the video said you choose your ammo type upon character creation. Did they say something about a "Switch ammo" button? If that is so, how would the secondary effects be handled? Would you be able to slot for the -def effect (if it exists for the lethal rounds)? And what about the defense debuff procs or any other procs/IOs for other secondary effects like the cryo round's slow.
Sure it sucks if you have an effect you'd like to bump up, but it also prevents people from wasting slots for enhancements they only get use from some of the time.
Quote:Interesting. I thought as much.
Judging also by how often it was used, it'll be the lowest damaging "mini-nuke" but also the fastest recharging. Seems like Dual Pistols might be exactly what I expected: "the Claws of ranged sets: Fast, cheap attacks that recharge quickly." -
Quote:I leveled my Dominator from 35-50 almost exclusively in the RWZ (Only missions I did outside of that was my patron arc, cause Grandville caused my computer to die a slow painful death everytime I zoned into the place) and I STILL don't own all the Vanguard constume pieces (And I've never wasted my merits on any of the temp powers).I have to totally agree. I despise the Rikti Raid (it really sucks on characters with no Mezz protection) and the pure amount of Vanguard Merits you have to get is (and I do not use the word lightly) obscene.
I can only imagine how much more annoying it would be if I had Weapons to unlock as well. -

Quote:Wasn't it also stated that it only converts 30% of the damage to the elemental type?I'll just be happy if the devs don't let the players use this as a new exploit the way they do so many other things.
They have to realize, one would hope, that many decisions are based purely on damage type, and regardless of the timer on a cycle power, players will look to optimize based on that. It takes the "I only farm Demons" mentality to a mobile level.
So even with Incendiary rounds, or Cryo rounds or whatever, it's a primarily Lethal damage set anyhow. It's only going to lead to a marginal increase in damage.
100lethal damage vs 50%resist = 50damage
70lethal damage vs 50%resist = 35damage +30elemental(assuming no resist) or 65damage total.
Is it better than before? yes.
Is it THAT MUCH better? Not really no. -

If I want to use a set of images for an avatar and have it do like a slideshow of them, how would I do that?

Quote:If we go with the idea presented earlier that Rularuu was at some point just a man(mortal) with powers, than it's well within the real of possibility that the Dream Doctor, as an aspect of Rularuu, could make that statement and it be true.As Faatim rebelled and walled himself into the Chantry and as Lanaru rebelled and broke the world, so before them the Dream Doctor rebelled and trapped Rularuu within his own mind. Not bad. I can go with that. It has precedent, it makes sense and it's a good idea
I'm not sure how the Dream Doctor is written in fiction, though. He, like Darryn Wayde, seems to have been written as a man with powers first and foremost, rather than the manifestation of a godlike entity. He even says something to that effect in the quote someone provided - how he remembers back to when he was just a man.
I can't really say one way or the other, but I DO like the idea.
Fiction is full of instances of a man(mortal) transcending their small existance to become something far greater.
If anyone's a fan of Magic: The Gathering, probably it's most iconic antagonist, Yawgmoth, started out as a normal man. Yawgmoth gained power thought twisted experiments and black magics, to the point where he was all but a god, in fact he was worshiped as a god by many.
In the end he had grown so immesely powerful that even Planeswalkers (some of the most powerful beings in the multiverse) couldn't rival him. His mere presence slaughtered countless millions, only to reanimate them as his servants. -
Biggest hurdle I have to wonder about is How does this set handle Phase Supression?
Particularly Phantom Gate where it's possible to move in and out of the phased area.
Do powers from this set not trigger suppression?
How does this interact with the Pool Phase Shift powers?
What are the recharge/duration of the various Phasing powers?
If this powerset doesn't trigger phase suppression, would it be possible to be permanently phased via chaining Planar Shift and Phantom Gate?
How would you address the problem of wasting attacks on targets that are in the incorrect phase? -
Quote:Poppycock!Haha, thanks Eddy!
TA - Thanks so much! Although, I don't think I'll be entering the contest. I'm waaay too shy and my costume isn't interesting enough lol. If I had the ribs/spine and eye contacts, then I probably would be entering.
It's a fantastic costume, don't sell yourself short kiddo.
<<Is Oathbound in Disguise>>
<<Completely unrelated to anything, but I decided I missed my puppy, so I had to fetch him. Squeeee!>> -
So, so far we have:
1) Web Grenade
1) Cryo Freeze Ray
2) Smoke Grenade
6) Wide Area Web Grenade
8) Cloaking Generator
12) Stun Grenade
18) Sleep Grenade
26) Marker Drone
32) <Pet>
Now, here's a few problems with this set up...
A) Power order. Based on the layout of other sets this should more closerly resemble this order:
1) Web Grenade
1) Cryo Freeze Ray
2) Wide Area Web Grenade
6) Smoke Grenade
8) Cloaking Generator
12) Stun Grenade
18) Sleep Grenade
26) Marking Drone
32) <Pet>
B) Damage (or lack thereof). Yes control sets aren't exactly known for their damage, but they DO have (and need) some. As per current sets Web Grenade and Cryo Freeze Ray would need scale 1 damage, and WAWG would need scale 0.3 damage.
c) AoE Hold. There isn't one, but there needs to be (Tear Gas? from MM's merc Spec Ops pets). I would say replace Smoke Grenade and use the following Order:
1) Web Grenade
1) Cryo Freeze Ray
2) Wide Area Web Grenade
6) Sleep Grenade
8) Cloaking Generator
12) Stun Grenade
18) <Tear Gas> OR Marking Drone
26) Marking Drone OR <Tear Gas>
32) <Pet>
D) Redraw. Are all the grenades in this set launched from an assault rifle? If not what about the built in redraw issue with those powers that use the AR (Sleep grenade) and those that dont (Web Grenade)? If none of the Grenades use the AR, what gadget do you use for Cyro Freeze Ray and how is redraw handled?
E) Animations/Theme. I count 4 grenades, 5 using Tear Gas as the AoE Hold. With so many of the gadgets being Grenades, it's not very impressive for a Device Control set. Plus, how many different ways are there to animate grenades?
There's also the minor issue of conflict with Proliferating Traps to Controllers, but I suppose that can be cleared up by either 1) using something else in place of Web Grenade for the Control set or 2) replacing Controller->Traps->Web Grenade with another power (say Surveillance).
I'm not trying to poo on anyone's ideas or anything, but for a Device Control set to work it'll probably have to be largely Brand New powers, not cobbled together from existing ones. -
Quote:<<Is Oathbound, posting using a friend's account cause mine went inactive on the 15th. (While I can't verify that I am who I say I am, Pyro can give you my Email Address, or I can PM it to you and you can verify it with him. I have no idea when I'll be re-upping my account.)In CCC #3 I asked entrants to pair up one of their characters with one of mine and suggest a scene between the two. I then picked some finalists and had everyone who wished vote on the final winners...
At this point I would like to apologize to everyone involved for wasting your time.
I had the best of intentions of running the contest, and following through with it just as I detailed in the original CCC #3 thread but in the end I just couldn't do it.
All the entrants had such cool characters... All the suggested scenes became so vivid in my imagination... After the contest was completed I just wasn't satisfied with the two winners. Not that I wasn't totally eager to see the two pieces. Not that I didn't think they deserved to win. But rather I was disappointed in not seeing all the other ones...
Well, I could only think of one way to fix that... All entrants got one of their entries commissioned out.
Not everyone is getting a piece by The Foo which was the announced prize (though the two winners and a couple others are) but they will all be getting a piece done. Frankly I didn't want to overwhelm Foo nor wait forever to get them all done... I was going to wait to reveal the pieces from the non winners until their all done but with so many people watching various DA pages and such I realized that just couldn't realistically be kept a secret.
Anyway, the first piece is done. I would like to present you all with Fenian Girl and Oathbound by Juggertha:
Fenian Girl is my character, Oathbound belongs to... Oathbound. The rest of the pieces will be posted here as they become available... Larger version can be found on my DA page (click the face on the right in my sig bar) and Oathy, PM me your email address and I will email you the full file...
Thanks Caemgen, you're super awesome. This marks the first real piece I have of any of my characters, cause I'm a broke a** (as is evident from my account being closed currently) and always seem to miss the free artz lol.
It's very nice work there Juggy. (I'm really more appreciative than I think I sound.)
