Quote:Extraordinary claims? Really? Where?Whenever you agree with anything here, it's a sign of trouble...
Be that as it may, the other thread is clearly labelled as speculation and as such, presents no problem. This one, however, advertises a purely hypothetical sequel and does not back its extraordinary claims with anything approaching evidence.
Ordinarily, the only response for the honor of the forums would be pistols at dawn, but the OP is new and not a seasoned veteran of sometimes idiosyncratic customs of discussion here, such as yourself. -
I think you're exactly right. I think we'll see Cities of Heroes scattered around the world, and even off-world.

Interesting... coh2.com was registered by NC Soft on JUNE 16, 2004.

Quote:Re-read what I actually typed and stop filling in the gaps with your emotions. No one is touting amazing deduction, no one is saying I am an insider with loose-lipped connections, no one is saying that this isn't all speculation, and no one is asking you to take my conclusions as law, that's all you.Not necessarily. The domain acquisition could have simply been done to stop it from being used by someone else.
What you've provided is pure speculation touted as amazing deduction. Sensationalism at its greatestWhat's silly is that you've stated out right that you are quoting gossip and you expect us to believe it out of hand.
Speculate til your hearts content but don't make wild claims without proof and expect to be taken seriously and without question.
I'm simply stating my predictions on record here for the inevitable glory that being right brings (and to have a fun chat).
If you consider the idea of a sequel to CoH to be a "wild" idea, then we're probably too far apart to have any sort of meaningful conversation. -

Quote:You HAVE to get the Tron: Legacy Remix album! It's INSANELY good.I never typically have anything going, our house is noisy enough as it is, so I usually have the game turned down and play in luxuriating silence whenever possible.. barring that, if in fact I require background music, I have found that the Tron : Legacy soundtrack is an absolutely awesome addition to game play ! Then when that's done ( 22 songs later ) if I still need more, I just let the iPod take over..
When I'm not listening to The Cape, I'm listening to movie soundtracks... anything from Hanz Zimmer (Inception, Gladiator), comic book movie scores (epecially ones by Christopher Drake), and lots of dance music. -
Very true, and this games has a lot of creative people, more than most MMO communities... but from the perspective of a new player (who may or may not be very creative), battling 7 years of name grabs is a daunting task. I've seen more than a few new players get discouraged by finding every single name they think of being taken.

Quote:I honestly could not take your post at face value so I assumed you were trolling. Could the domain registration simply be good business sense? Sure, but that is only one piece of the puzzle. Apparently I'm the only one who sees a bigger picture here.Take care with the accusations of trolling, especially when you're stirring the forum pot with only self-generated rumors.
As for registering the domain cityofheroes2.com, it's standard practice for a company to register alternate domain names simply in order to protect trademarks. And registering it back in 2007 coincides with NCSoft's purchase of CoH, so that can be explained by basic due diligence.
Once again, this post is about the new job postings which I did not make up. And the only pot I'm stirring is a pot called "too emotionality invested in a video game to see that it will die (eventually) if it does not get and retain new subscribers" -
-
I can't tell if you're trolling me, but just in case you aren't... they bought the domain for cityofheroes2.com, they formed a studio dedicated to the CoH brand, they're hiring for an "exciting new project" that's a "next-gen" video game, and you still don't think anything indicates a sequel to their most successful game in the works? That's just silly.

Quote:What gave you the impression that I have reliable information? It's not like I have any inside information from loose-lipped, drunken insiders. Everything is gossip except for the official job listings looking for talent for an "exciting new project" for a "next gen game".So you're using gossip and no source what so ever for your information? That's..... reliable...
And GR2 has been discussed at length on these boards, and hinted at by the devs. -

Quote:As much as I like playing the name-real estate mini-game in City of Heroes, I hope it's open names tied to hidden global names. I never thought I'd say that but STO really changed my mind. I think the anxiety of finding a "cool name" really changes how invested new players get.I don't know about all the badges (it WOULD be nice tho) but I definitely would want to somehow be able to keep the names. That's my biggest fear that I couldn't be quick enough to catch Goblin Queen or any of my other "mains" in a sequel. I know it's almost not fair for others who may want the same name but.. I had it first? Kinda?
Either that or do something like a few other games do and have names not be unique. That's a whole different can of worms though so I'm not really sure how I feel about all that. -

Quote:Read the post again. And simmer down jeez.Where exactly - specifically - has it been stated that they are working on City of Heroes 2? Where exactly, in written words, in a press release, or announcement, have they stated they are working on, creating, City of Heroes2? Please post references and examples. Thank you.

So Paragon Studios want to make a sequel to the highly successful City of Heroes, but it doesn't simply want to make a sequel, it wants to raise the bar by creating a whole new game that eclipses and improves on everything that they have done before. So they have decided to come up with an entirely new name for the project and drop "City of Heroes 2".
I think it will simply be called "Paragon". (You heard it here first!)
If you had to choose a new name for this (hypothetical, of course) revolutionary new comic book themed game, what would you name it?
(Edited to bold "hypothetical")
Mod Edit: Edited title to be appropriate as "speculative". -

Quote:I have no idea why you are characterizing a very exciting and hopeful post about Paragon Studios hiring for a "Next Gen Game" as a "Doom post". Official job postings from the official Paragon Studios website seems like pretty solid backup to me, or at the very least it's not "baseless" speculation now.Oh Cool! It has been a while since we had a Doom post without any solid backup for info pulled out of a hat.!
I know change can be scary for some people, and apparently even talk of change is scary to some, but to me these are exciting, forward-thinking announcements. "Next Gen" implies a new engine. "Exciting new project" implies just that, something new. -
Quote:I apologize for being vague and sensational. I say that CoH2 NEEDS to launch next year from a market and financial context. As you mentioned, the sudden glut of under-whelming and under-performing comic book themed MMOs, coupled with the cyclical economic popularity of the genre, AND the cold hard CoH financial numbers from NCSoft, put CoH in the perfect position to learn from everyone else's mistake and create a juggernaut that can hold it's own against the next generation MMO's, if not rule them. You're definitely allowed your opinion. Mine is that this game can certainly last several years longer especially when you hold it up against the other hero games. I'm not impressed with what's out (I've tried them both) and what's planned to come out (it's a glorified console game).
Speaking as someone in the industry for almost a decade now, I don't think CoH2 HAS to come out next year and in fact I doubt it would even if they WERE working on it. I can't recall any major game that has announced and launched within 2 years of being announced. I could be mistaken, there's a ton out there, but I honestly can't think of one.
Don't get me wrong, I think a CoH2 would rock, since clearly I think the first one does, and I'd play the heck out of it but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about how it would affect the original. EQ and EQ II are an exception with GW and GW2 possibly being the next.
As far as pushing the limits of this particular game, we've seen some nice things recently with Ultra Mode and storytelling mechanics and systems. I'd not be surprised if we see more down the road. I certainly hope so!
Pointless speculating is pointless though. They're already working on something, that we know, and we'll find out eventually if it's CoH2 or another game. Either way I'm sure it'll be awesome and I'm sure CoH will remain viable for some time. I know I'll be playing. :)
Edit - and I'm with Arcanaville, I'd totally buy a lifetime even now. I swear that would have saved me some major cash over the last 7 years. :P
Eventually there WILL be a new game that captures your heart, and I would just rather that game be CoH2. I think they've probably been working on it since the creation of Paragon Studios.
And I don't think CoH will go away, I think it'll go with a cash shop model. -
Honestly, I think it's a tad naive of you guys to think that CoH can survive much longer in the current video game climate... and I'm saying that as a loyal fan who wishes that corporations could magically cater to my niche game forever (like EQ1).
I guess I'm the odd man out in that I'm thrilled at the prospect of this current team building a new CoH from the ground up, especially in regards to the design and art team we now have. I think we've reached the limit of what this engine can do, and at this point it's just holding the design team back.
Speaking as someone in the industry, I feel like City of Heroes 2 HAS to come out next year (Christmas 2012?) from a market standpoint--before the inevitable Superhero backlash comes. -

Quote:The jobs are definitely for a CoH related game. The potential project(s) behind NC Soft's job listings is, of course, purely speculative. And since Lineage just closed in North America, one could just as easily say that the next MMO will be Lineage 3.
