It just occurred to me that while some Praetorian do have facial hair non of them seem to have the signature "Evil double from another universe goatee".
This was first seen in Star Trek with the episode "Mirror Mirror" as the Evil Spock has the signature goatee pictured here. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3286/...5c6b3876b5.jpg
This was later parody in South Park and WAY over done as every character had the Goatee. The episode was titled "Evil Cartman" however he was actually evil WITHOUT the Goatee and the one with was good. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BdLOVjNJru...an-149x150.jpg
Most recently we have the Shattered Glass Rodimus from Transformer with a painted on Goatee as of course robots can't grow facial hair. http://images-mediawiki-sites.theful...6086268588.jpg
Perhaps Anti-Matter has a Goatee under that helmet? We haven't seen what he looks like under there and Positron is completely bald so maybe Anti-Matter got all the hair. lol -
Quote:I've always heard the exact opposite of this because of slotting. There aren't enough enhancement slots to go around to be any good in all 3 forms. Staying to 1 or 2 forms makes it easier to distribute enhancement slots among your powers while if you have all 3 forms 1 or more of them is always going to suck.I can't speak to PBs, only WS (and only that up to the mid 30s, so feel free to take with a grain of salt) But from what I've seen myself, and in other 'shades has been that those who restrict themselves to a single form are always the worst performing. Always.
Khelds are not WoW Druids, where you pick one form and specialize, never to change again. To be at your best here you need buffs from all the forms combined.
My average pack goes something like this:
1) Stealth in while human-form (SS+shade stealth)
2) cast Mire
3) swap to Dwarf
4) cast Dwarf Mire
5) either to squid for small packs, or back to human for a Grav Well/Unchained combo for big
6) mop up whatever is left standing (wont be much)
7) Stygian circle to refill hp/end
Lather, rinse, and repeat. I don't even have Eclipse yet
There are very few cases were I will not make use of all three forms on a given pack of mobs.
EDIT: Read Dechs' MFing Warshade page... be enlightened, pwn some mobs, get cake
Back in the day when I still had them my PB was Human/Dwarf and I mainly only used Dwarf on the Voids and Quantums because that was the only form that could actually survive more than a single blast from them at the time. My WS on the other hand I went with Human/Nova mostly because I hate teliport self and I ended up using the Nova form primarily as a travel power but occasionally would attack in that form as well if I needed a little more DMG.
There's not allot you can do in terms of combining powers because of the fact that all the human form powers get locked out in the forms. Mainly the only thing I ever did was cast pets and heal myself while in human form then switch forms which I actually found rather annoying. I mean it takes longer to switch forms just to hit another heal than it does if you had already been in that form in the first place. I actually died quite a few times in Nova form or as I was turning off Nova even though I had a heal available on my human form where as when I actually fought in human form from the start I was able to hit the heal allot quicker plus Squids are squishy and you don't need to heal as often in human form. On the other side I found fighting in human form and using Dwarf as a last resort power helped me stay alive allot more than fighting as a Dwarf and having to switch to human to hit my other heal and back to dwarf again... well actually I never made it back to dwarf again but I attempted to.
Anyway, thanks for the info, I don't think I'll be getting into Kheldians again any time soon. Maybe after all my current 50's are all T4d in every slot, IDK we'll see. I just don't feel like putting in the time and effort for powers I can't even use in forms. It's already bad enough I can't use them while EX/MA I don't need more reasons to not be able to use incarnate abilities. :P -
Hello I haven't played any Khedians sense their initial launch. I had one of each up to about level 36 and deleted them.
I was thinking about maybe getting back into them again but I wanted to get some info on the changes that have been made sense then. Namely the Nova and Dwarf forms. Back in the day these came with their own powers so rather than just getting 1 power you were actually getting 6 new powers or something like that. This also meant that the forms would lock out every other power in the game except for the powers that came with that form.
This, at the time, also included Accolades and other powers that weren't actually associated with the archetype but for some reason would only work in human form. I always ended up playing human form all the time because of this, the Nova and Dwarf would never get any better than once you had them 6 slotted and they make you look exactly like everyone else with the same power. (I'm hopping Khedians will get custom colors at some point.)
This leads me to the question of incarnate abilities. I don't really want to spend allot of time and effort on unlocking the Alpha Slot abilities and all the other incarnate slots only to find out that Nova and Dwarf don't even benefit from the Incarnate system.
My goal for my new Kheldians if I even bother to make them is to tri-build them so I have one build which is all Human, one build which focuses on Nova Form, and one build which focuses on the Dwarf form. I just don't wanna do it if the Nova and Dwarf builds are going to consist of unlocking that power and slotting them and that's all I get to do with them.
I just see the human form as being the strongest of the 3 because you can actually customize your own build with it rather then just taking one set of powers that never change.
So is there any chance that Nova and Dwarf have been updated so they can earn new powers or are they still just stuck with the powers they came with and never get any better? -
Quote:The character has to be in the Hero Alignment and being that you haven't been online for a while it may require you to log on to that character in order to unlock it.I've never been able to get to level 50 and unlock the Kheldians, however I've recently reactivated my account and I noticed that the level req has dropped to 20. Now, I have a level 26 character, but for some reason I can't access these archetypes. Any help?

So I thought I would step in here again just to list all the different types of Doppelgangers there are currently in the game.
Players: Note the following can be mixed and matched to an extent and I'm not going into the possible mixes.
Doppelganger: This is a near exact replica of you except that Doppelgangers can't seem to mimic custom power colors and they some times seem be missing entire power sets likewise if you use "Traps" your Doppelganger will have "Devices" in it's place. Seen in both hero and villain Doppelganger story arcs as well as some Tip missions.
Reverse: The primary and secondary colors of your costume will trade places. This is still true even if one of the colors can't be seen on your original costume which some times results in some very odd coloring. Seen in the hero Doppelganger Story Arcs.
Inverse: This is basically what a negative image looks like. The pattern will always stay the same as your own costume but it's actually in the opposite color of what you're wearing so if you have a black costume your inverse self will be wearing white. This is rather unfortunate if you're wearing a black hood resulting in a racist doppelganger. Oddly enough your skin color will also be opposite but this isn't noticed if you have no skin showing. Not sure where this is used outside of AE.
BlackAndWhite: This is actually a really fun one if you have a pattern on your costume that can't be seen in it's original colors. The Black and White setting doesn't really pay attention to black and white points that already exists but rather makes your primary color white and your secondary color black. So if you should happen to be wearing a white shirt with a white magic pattern on it your doppelganger will actually have a visible magic pattern which is really cool. Seen in some tip missions.
RandomPower: These Doppelgangers randomly have other power sets, some times sets that wouldn't even normally go together. Seen in the villain Doppelganger story arc.
Angel: This doppelganger wears the "Nice" halo aura which will replace whatever aura you're wearing and a pair of White angel wings. Should your character already be wearing these items you might not notice a difference unless your wings are a different color because the angel setting will always make them white. If your character is wearing a cape the wings will replace the cape but for some odd reason it doesn't remove the mantle. Trench Coats are unaffected by the addition of the wings. Seen in some tip missions.
Demon: This doppelganger wears the "Naughty" halo aura which will replace whatever aura you're wearing and a pair of red and black demon wings. Should your character already be wearing these items you might not notice a difference unless your wings are a different color because the demon setting will always make them red and black. If your character is wearing a cape the wings will replace the cape but for some odd reason it doesn't remove the mantle. Trench Coats are unaffected by the addition of the wings. Seen in some tip missions.
Shadow: This will make your character entirely black with the exceptions of some costume pieces that don't accept color changes or only partially change color such as a Soldier's unchangeable red Arachnos logo. These are seen at the end of the Positron Task force (Part 1).

It's been questioned why these two are not the same gender as their counterparts and I think the reason is because they're not actually the same people. The time line for them altered with their parents reproducing at different times resulting in different children. In other words they would actually be brother and sister. Jim was never born on Praetorian Earth instead his sister Jane took his place and vice verse.
Dark Watcher has two different Wiki pages but both versions actually appear to be the Primal Earth version as he's still wearing a Vanguard uniform under his trench coat. -
You were saying about Freedom not being overpopulated??? It's completely full right now, as in no one else can get on Freedom. Not down, there's no maintenance right now, just full. Not the first time this has happened either but it is the first time without there being some sort of event going on like Double XP weekend and/or free account reactivation.

Quote:So basically you're saying it's circumstantial but not something you'd really want to use on a regular basis? But doesn't that still eliminate the need for a timer to be placed on one if no one is going to use it that often anyway? And the other one, trade 10 shards for 5 threads as much as you want, what's the use in that if it's really not that convenient to do it? It's more of an inconvenience really. Not really. I had 10 shards and was short by about 7 threads when I wanted to get my tier 3 interface slot. A conversion and 2.5 million inf later and I had everything I needed.
I wouldn't want to get all my incarnate powers this way because the conversion is still rather disadvantageous -- my guess is that threads drop at least 5 times more frequently than shards. But the conversion comes in handy in a pinch.
I also don't really see a use for turning threads into XP because the rate of XP isn't that bad. I mean it only took me about an hour to unlock Interface and most of that time was just waiting for the event to start rather than actually doing it. It just seems that the XP conversion is for people who don't want to do the Trials but I don't see that being a far alternative you can unlock a slot in about an hour doing the trial or who knows how many weeks by converting Shards into Threads and threads into XP. Has anyone even tested this to see how difficult unlocking a slot is if you choose not to run in a trial? Actually difficult isn't the right word, the trials are difficult, not running a trial is just time consuming. I prefer the challenge over the grinding though I have not yet been on a successful trial, it's still rewarding even if you fail it.
Anyway, the whole point of this topic is basically just that the "alternative methods" don't seem even to each other in terms of difficulty and time. In fact it seems that the drop rate for Shards and Threads if you do it the main way is about even to each other. But the alternative way Threads become allot more difficult to obtain than Shards which doesn't seem fair when Threads are allot more useful than Shards. It takes about 4 shards to make a single component and 10 Threads to make a single component so the exchange rate should actually be that 4 Shards can make 10 Threads whenever you want or 4 Shards can make 20 Threads every 24 hours. This would better balance out the time consumption vs difficultly of obtaining Threads without doing Trials or TFs. To balance it out more for TFs they would drop during a normal TF at the same rate as Shards, slower than they normally drop in a trial, and not at all during regular missions. There could be a potential problem with this though as it could actually cause Threads to be easier to obtain than Shards and helping to eliminate Shards entirely. Unfortunately that's the problem with having multiple different currencies. There's no way to really balance out everything properly, Threads are always going to be more valuable than Shards unless the conversion works in both directions.
To put it simply lets say that Quarters represent Shards and Dollars represent Threads. Now you can actually exchange or convert 4 quarters into 1 dollar or 1 dollar into 4 quarters. But some people don't like to carrey small change on them so they prefer the dollar to the 4 quarters. Really unless you're getting change for laundry or you're 5 years old there isn't much use for quarters. So lets say that laundry mats start taking bills instead of quarters and thoughts quarter machines for kids no longer exist. That would create a one way conversion process where no one would ever trade 1 dollar for 4 quarters. Now we already have this kind of one way conversion which tells me that Shards are more useless than quarters are.
There's also the fact that, while not recommended, you can potentially take a roll of quarters worth $20 and use that in place of a $20 bill without converting it at all. You can't however, take shards and spend them as if they were Threads because the value simply isn't equal.
Of course the exchange rate is all off anyway but sense we're thinking of this as a form of currency I figured real currency would be a good comparison.
Long story short.
Threads > Shards
Fix it so they're equal. -
Quote:You make a good point but Shards can only be used to advance your Alpha Slot. The only use for them after you reach the Tier 4 in your Alpha Slot is to turn them into Threads. And the exchange rate is 10 Shards for 10 Threads every 18 hours (time might be wrong) or 10 Shards for 5 Threads any time. Sense you need more Threads than Shards this exchange is really rather useless. I guess it could work if it's meant to just be a harder way to collect Threads. Like you can collect Shards without doing TFs but it takes longer. But then what about if you're not doing TFs or Trials? It'd take like 3 months just to collect enough Shards to make into Threads and convert that into a single component. Plus you also have to use Threads to earn Incarnate XP if you choose not to do Trials.Surely that's the point of Shards, though? They let characters continue to advance in their Incarnate powers when playing all the content in the game, except AE. I don't think that could be done with only Threads, unless there's a way to give mobs different drops rates in different content for the same drops (offhand, I don't recall any instances of that in the game).
The alternatives to Trials shouldn't be THAT much more time consuming. I think the Drop rate for Shards outside of TFs is actually a fair alternative if you choose not to do TFs. It does take a little longer but it's the trade for an easier way to get shards. The only fair alternative for Trials is doing TFs which doesn't work if you don't like TFs.
For myself, I like doing the TFs and Trials but I just don't like that there are only 2 Trials to do for Threads. It just doesn't give that much of a choice in how I earn my Threads other than do the Trials repeatedly until I don't need Shards anymore then I can turn my left over Shards into Threads. -
Quote:Paragon Wiki really needs to fix this. There's also this from the patch notes:
Apex and Tin Mage
* Apex and Tin Mage TFs now reward 2 Incarnate Threads upon successful completion instead of Incarnate Shards.
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Issue_20
Quote:The Incarnate Task Forces (Apex and Tin Mage) both now have as a final reward: 40 Merits; 1 Shard; 2 Threads.
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Incarnate_Component
Of course you still get Shards anyway because they will randomly drop from enemies during the TFs and sense they changed it to even con instead of level 50 to drop Shards we can now get then while exemplar/Malefactor on the lower level TFs. -
This seems a little odd to me. I mean we just got the Alpha Slot and the Shards and stuff that comes with that and it seems like they're already trying to phase that out for a new system. Why give us the system in the first place if you're just going to replace it with something else a little while later?
The reasons I think it's being phased out is because rather than using the same system we already had for Shards to be used for the 4 new slots they gave us an entirely new system, the Incarnate Threads and all the new salvage that came with that.
Now that alone is not why I think Shards are being phased out. The real thing to consider is this. The Alpha Slot itself is now using the new Thread system as well. If you scroll down on any Alpha Slot enhancement you'll see that all of the existing Alpha Slot stuff can be created from the new Thread Salvage as well as the old Shard Salvage. This would be fine except that the reverse is not true. The old Shard Salvage can not be used to create Enhancements for the 4 new slots only for the Alpha Slot.
I've also noticed that you can use Shards and convert them into Threads but you can't use Threads and convert them into Shards.
Because of this Threads are becoming more useful than Shards which will eventually stop the use of Shards all together. I see this as being a HUGE problem because right now there are more ways to get Shards than there are to get Threads. I find it significantly more fun to be able to do more with my Incarnate in that I have the option to do different TFs or even run regular missions as a way to collect Shards. Threads on the other hand only seem to drop during the Lambda or BAF Trials which means I have allot less to do with my characters. I would rather have one system or two entirely interchangeable systems rather than one system replacing the other.
By interchangeable I mean if we're going to have both Threads and Shards then we should be able to convert them both ways. Right now we can only make Shards into Threads not the other way around. And Enhancements should be creatable using the old salvage for the new slots. Either that or remove the ability to create Alpha Slot Enhancements using the new system and remove the ability to turn Shards into Threads. It should be completely interchangeable or not at all. This one way street is making one system more valuable than the other and they should be equal to each other.
I don't mind having the new trials but I don't like the feeling that by issue 21 the only way I'll be able to do anything is by running the same two trials over and over again. I want to be able to choose trial or TF not be forced into one over the other and there are simply allot more TFs than there are trials so I don't feel the need to repeat the same TF 5 times a day like I do with the Trials.
To show the actual value of Shards vs Threads...
When it was just Shards the value of them is = to 100% This is because at the time there were no other options so Shards had nothing to compete with.
With the addition of Threads the value SHOULD be Shards = 50% Threads = 50% This would make them equally desirable by the player base as an alternative for getting all 5 slots.
But what the value is, just an estimate Shards = 16-20% Threads = 80-85%, this is because Threads can be used on all 5 slots while Shards remain restricted to the Alpha Slot and the reason the % isn't a solid number is because of the one way conversion. Some players like myself may still be using Shards for the Alpha Slot making it Shard 20% Thread 80% while others may now be ignoring Shards except to covert them into threads making it Shards 16% Threads 85%. And there may be people in between the two extremes who aren't completely ignoring Shards but aren't against using them to form Threads either. In any case there no where near to equal value.
Now I'd just like to point out that non of this has to do with Drop Rates which is fine. Threads do drop more often but it also takes allot more of them to make a component so it balances out. This is just about Shards being useful for 1/5 slots as apposed to Threads being useful for 5/5 slots. -
Quote:That was actually posted a while ago just before the sever load discussion started. You really think I'd let the topic be derailed so badly if someone hadn't already answered my question.Anyway, we started with discussion of how to find teams and wandered into an off-the-wall discussion of server load.
I'm curious if the OP was able to find one or more global channels that were helpful in finding teams. This is information that would be useful to many.
Quote:I unlocked my alpha slot, did the weekly strike target, did a Lady Grey TF (with your help of course, never would of found the team if I hadn't gotten such quick responses in here thank you.), and a Rikti Mothership raid. -
Quote:No the reference to the server load is how it effects the general lag on any given individual computer. Hence my whole explanation of people who are playing with the minimum system requirements having more lag on a more populated server.Right, but your comments about boomboxing seemed to be in reference to server lag and the load indicators. Boomboxing and other emotes are probably some of the things that contribute the least to server load.
And on that note it looks like you're arguing that boomboxing doesn't contribute to server lag at all while at the same time saying that it does very little to contribute. You'd be right in the first part it doesn't contribute to server lag because the music can be controlled locally on your own computer. But you said that it contributes the least to server load meaning that it is doing something but that should be general lag not server lag.
Quote:i would expect 100 people standing around Atlas Park boomboxing to add less to server load than 50 people fighting Rikti on the Mothership.
At the time I did this there were two people who did not crash at the same time everyone else in a group of about 16. The two people who didn't crash were playing on much better computers than everyone else in the group. One of them was actually running 3 separate accounts on his one computer. My computer at the time could barely handle two accounts.
Quote:To be fair, I think most of the people are 'attacking' the CONTENT of your posts.
Quote:If you can't grasp the BASIC ERROR in your argument, then this is all probably pointless Quote:Now I have to question your reading comprehension.
And BTW your comments could be seen as the equivalent to yelling at someone who bumped into you on the street saying "What are you blind!?" only to turn around and see the person is holding a white cane. Everyone has flaws and it's not really nice to point them out like that. I was actually in special ed classes for 9 years of my education so yes I'm going to it personally when someone sees fit to make fun of me for my poor education. -
Quote:Well that was the meaning I got from it. I did ask how it wasn't a contradiction giving him a chance to reword it but he just seemed to be talking about an entire different subject so I gave up on it. :PYou've changed what he said entirely. He was saying "red means server load" and "red does not mean the server is in danger of bad things happening". (e.g. monumental lag, etc.)
Quote:The boombox music is stored locally on your computer. How can this possibly contribute to your lag/latency, which is a measure of NETWORK activity (very "dumbed down" explanation), if the music isn't doing anything at all with the NETWORK?
This is a two way street. An easy way to explain it is by disconnection. Typically if only one person on a team of 8 gets disconnected from the map server or from the game that means it's a LOCAL issue. As in your computer sucks. If an entire team gets Disconnected at the same time that could be a Network issue, and if you're not use to being disconnected on a regular basis it's most defiantly a network issue.
It doesn't really make a difference if the issue is with the network or just locally, lag is lag either way you cut it. The only real difference is that a network problem is something the player base can't change, we can report the issue but only the staff can actually do anything about it. Local issues are purely a matter of upgrading your own computer, changing your graphics or sound settings in game, and even upgrading your internet connection.
Graphics setting are local too BTW and you mean to tell me you can't see a difference in your lag when you turn your graphics settings down?
Quote:I really, really think you should stop talking about pretty much everything in this thread, because it is painfully obvious that you don't understand it. And it seems like you're being deliberately obtuse and refusing to take explanations (btw, which are correct). Research a bit before coming back. And drop the attitude.
And that goes for everyone BTW, I'm trying to keep things civil in here because it's just not worth it to start mud slinging. Your the ones attacking me in my topic and if you don't like the conversation here I'm not forcing you to stay. Just walk away or stay and try to actually have a civil conversation. It's your choice.
BTW in case you missed this the first time...
There's allot of people posting that I seem to have an "attitude" in here. That may be true but that attitude isn't intentionally being directed at anyone here. I'm sorry if you feel that it is but there's nothing I can do to change that. If you really need to know what's wrong with me you can toss me a private message otherwise I don't really fell comfortable discussing my personal problems publicly. -
Quote:I don't think you knew this ahead of time but thanks for not using colors that I can't see. I'm color blind but you managed to use two colors that don't show as the same for me.Rial's text in yellow and mine in white, to avoid stacking lots of quote boxes.
Quote:It's exactly as I stated. There is no contradiction.
A contradiction is two opposing statements, one which states that something is true...
red means a certain "server load"
...while the other states that it isn't...
you can't assume that red means 'danger' or 'overloaded'.
Can you explain how this is not a contradiction?
It's a fact that Red means server load.
You can't assume that red means server load.
Quote:Frankly, I can't even figure out what you meant by this one. The nonsense is wall-to-wall in your post.
Quote:Since large numbers of people play on Freedom without mention of any problem
I'm going to assume that was an April Fools day joke. I mean you highlighted that a boombox plays music and responded that it doesn't and there's no way you can seriously be trying to make that argument. -
It's simple, there are several factors that cause lag with number of players being one of them. Another factor is the FX being generated by a zone which is why Grandville with all of the TVs around displaying different images, something not found in other zones, tends to generate allot of lag for players.
It would seem like a player is generating more lag while active but it's not actually the player it's their powers which generate the extra lag as well as the added enemys being animated around you. A player could actually generate more lag without doing anything than he normally would simply by turning a toggle on. My old computer actually had an issue where I would DC whenever I came into contact with a player using an electric shield toggle. I only contribute that one toggle to the issue because it happened multiple times and always with the same power being the last thing I saw before the DC took place. This was back where Electric Melee and Electric Shields were still new power sets too and it may of just been a bug related to the power set which I reported when the same thing kept happening over and over again.
Music FX can generate more lag as well. I've actually tested this. Emoting doesn't really cause any extra FXs with the exception of the Boombox because even when you're not doing anything your character is still cycling thew animations. So if you're saying that being active will automatically generate more lag than standing still this would have to mean that jumping up and down would generate more lag than not jumping up and down. The boombox creates more lag because it's "drawing" another object into the space and creating music that wasn't there before. To put it simply if you have 10 people standing in one place doing jumping jacks they wouldn't generate more lag than if they weren't emoting but 10 people standing in the same place with boomboxes out could potentially cause them and anyone near them to crash especially if they're all playing a different song as apposed to all playing the same song.
Quote:It's exactly as I stated. There is no contradiction.
Quote:red means a certain "server load"
Quote:you can't assume that red means 'danger' or 'overloaded'.
Quote:Now by your reasoning one extra person can not ever reach a max capacity no matter how many people log on but that would mean that our max capacity is infinite which would mean we wouldn't even have a need to show server load at all sense it would always be the same no matter how many people are playing. Quote:This is obviously complete nonsense and not at all what I said. We all know damn well that server capacity is not infinite and I never said anything of the sort.
Quote:Are you seriously going to claim that red automatically means "overpopulated" because one additional person logged in?
Quote:But considering the average player is not rich and can't afford top of the line computers. Keep in mind I gradually upgraded my computer over the last 7 years to be able to handle the game better I didn't get it right away like this. So to the average player, Freedom is in fact overpopulated as population, though not the only reason for lag, does play a major factor in how much lag the average player experiences.
Simply put if the average player is still the one complaining about lag all the time, the sever is overpopulated.Quote:No. Every server has location congestion at various times and places. If a particular player has lag issues, then they need to avoid crowds.
If the server has such high load that EVERYONE has lag, THEN it's overcrowded. Not before.
The problem is your suggestion to simply avoid crowds. You say that as if it were an easy thing to do which on a server with a good or undersized population would be easy. But on Freedom the only place you can go to avoid crowds is inside of missions. There are ALWAYS crowds no matter where you, mission maps are the only places where the population is limited only to you and whoever may be on your team. You can't just sit inside one mission your entire time playing, at some point you finish and have to travel and then how do you propose someone should avoid a crowd? -
Quote:The second sentence here is contradicting the first. Which is it?Wrong. The only 'fact' is that red means a certain "server load". Since they only have 3 levels to display, you can't assume that red means 'danger' or 'overloaded'.
Quote:For all we know, red simply means operating between 67% and 100% capacity.
To give you an example on a smaller scale, I don't remember what the actual capacity is but lets just say for the sake of example that a zone like RWZ can hold a maximum capacity of 100 people before RWZ2 spawns. Now zones don't really show a "sever load" but if they did we could assume that 10% capacity was 1, 40% was 2, 60% was 3, and 90% was red. (Again not accurate numbers but this is just for the sake of example) 100% we know for a fact is the same a full zone or a full server. But sense the scale is limited to 100 people that means the people is the same as the % if it were 200 people then it would be 2 people per % because 1% of 200 is 2. So if we're in the red zone then there could be anywhere between 90 to 99 people in the zone. We know it's not 100 because there's no RWZ2 yet. If there is a RWZ2 or the zone is full we know that RWZ has reached it's max capacity of 100 people. And just so we're clear the reason that other instances still exist even when the main zone is not full is because the instance zones don't disappear as long as they're still being used and a % of the population could of left the main zone causing it to free up space for more people to enter. Basically meaning, unless the population is 0 in RWZ2 it'll still be there after there is room in the main zone.
Now by your reasoning one extra person can not ever reach a max capacity no matter how many people log on but that would mean that our max capacity is infinite which would mean we wouldn't even have a need to show server load at all sense it would always be the same no matter how many people are playing.
Quote:1. Red does not mean overpopulated. It means server load. That doesn't translate to player population. To put it in extreme terms: A server with 1000 players standing around, doing nothing, generates less load then a server with 500 people in active PVP with each other. Make sense?
Quote:2. You say the word "overpopulated". What do you think this means, exactly, in the context of an MMO?
To someone with a decent computer lag only tends to be an issue if you're doing raids. But for someone playing with the minimum possible requirements just to make the game run the lag can be so bad that you can log on but can't move anywhere with so much as 7 extra people standing anywhere within 10 feet of you. To me personally my current computer is the one that only lags during raids. But I also have a lap top which can log onto the game but can't do much else. I don't ever use it for gaming it was just already loaded on there because the person who had the lap top before me was using it to play CoH and I do not know how he did it.
But considering the average player is not rich and can't afford top of the line computers. Keep in mind I gradually upgraded my computer over the last 7 years to be able to handle the game better I didn't get it right away like this. So to the average player, Freedom is in fact overpopulated as population, though not the only reason for lag, does play a major factor in how much lag the average player experiences.
Simply put if the average player is still the one complaining about lag all the time, the sever is overpopulated. And the player base with computers that don't get lag with the exception of being in raids, they're not the average player, more like above average. Below average is that guy who doesn't check system requirements before he buys the game, gets home, finds out he can't log on, and then takes it back to the store. -
Quote:Most people don't play that often? If I can find an hour a day to play between sleeping and working 12 hours a day then yes people play every day.Great example of personal considerations vs considering an entire playerbase. No one that I have seen anywhere in this game wants a goal (making [extra] shards and merits) that has a target that changes each DAY. That's too much chaos - most people do not play that often.
Quote:On top of that, it would actually ACCELERATE accrual on each individual character of shards/merits/rewards/etc, which is NOT in the interest of the devs. 'Finishing' a character's Alpha slotting in 1/7 the time in takes now is not the goal. And since this is a game about alts, having more than one day to do this stuff is more than reasonable.
Quote:Everyone else has good ideas about how to solve your 'problem'. Suggesting Daily Strike Targets is hilariously not a solution to your 'problem'.
You know the little dots next to server selections that show 1, 2, 3, RED next to the server. Freedom is Red most of the time and never drops below 3 dots unless they just did server maintenance, it's overpopulated, that's a fact.
BTW If someone says "Add this person" why bother searching for them at all? You were just given the name. Just type /i <name> and that'll bypass the fact that the person is hidden. You don't need to be able to see them to invite them. Unless of course the problem is actually that you're on a co-op team which seems to be random now with Going Rogue. Some times you can't invite and enemy to team unless you're in the same zone, some times you can. Very rarely you can not even be in a co-op zone at all and still get the messages like you even though you're only trying to sent an invite from Sharkhead to Cap. But at least I haven't had the auto-boot for leaving the zone randomly. If you're already on team it doesn't seem to care where you go even if the rest of your team can't follow you there. -
Quote:I thought the auto kick feature was only added for inactive SG members giving the leader the ability to set what the limit actually is.Last I heard the auto-kick feature that was added still doesn't work
Anyway... I still feel that there should be a daily strike target just because running the same TF over and over again for a week is really only fun for a day and after that it's like work rather than a game and this is a game not a job. It kinda helps on Rouges and Vigilantes that they can actually do two different TFs unless it's a co-op week but it would help out allot more if we had dailys on top of our current weeklys so that it breaks up the repeating of the same TF all week.
In any case it's good to see there are some people out there who aren't just repeating the strike target over and over again until it isn't fun anymore. The first time I participated in the Weekly I did the strike target about 3 times all in one day and could of done more except I was already sick of it at that point. Sense then I've reduced it to only doing one TF a day and I like to spend the rest of my day doing other things rather than repeating the same TF I just did. Today for example, I unlocked my alpha slot, did the weekly strike target, did a Lady Grey TF (with your help of course, never would of found the team if I hadn't gotten such quick responses in here thank you.), and a Rikti Mothership raid. After that I switched characters and got my Corrupter to 48. Not the best day because I spent a good 3 hours standing around doing nothing but considering I didn't even think I'd get slotted when I posted this, it's actually been a really productive day.
Looking forward to unlocking my Alpha Slot for another character tomorrow, I've still got 4 other 50s who haven't done it yet and most of them I'm unlocking this week. Not sure which one I'm going for on this guy tomorrow, he's a soldier/Bubbler. I'm thinking Nerve because it has Defense and hold which looks like it would be the best thing for a bubbler. -
I'm frustrated with a little more than just the game but I'm not going to go into personal issues right now. Just forgive me if I seem a little on edge.
That aside someone in here mentioned Freedom TFs and Raids and it's not the first time I've heard that name but I thought it was just a copy of Freedom Badge so never bothered to check it out before. But after a couple recommendations I finally decided it was worth the time to look at and boy was I surprised. 5 sec. after joining the channel someone in it advertised a Lady Grey TF which I just finished before writing this post. And the channel has continued to remain active all during the TF rather than the several hours of silence I normally get from Freedom Badge. I think I'm just going to drop the badge channel now it was active when I first joined but I've been in there for at least 6 years. Time for something new. -
Quote:Already on Freedom Badge which seems to be quit 90% of the time. You need to join a server channel. Freedom has several. On those, you can find out about tfs and teams forming and it's far easier to join in on stuff, or to form them. Forming is far better that hoping one will form so you can join it.
I attempted to form a Lady Grey TF myself broadcasting in THREE different instances of RWZ and in Freedom badge only to get ONE reply.
This was all covered in my first post BTW and I don't much like repeating myself. :P That being said here's something I didn't cover...
Quote:Okay, you're making up explanations here about how people are supposedly thinking. I play on Infinity and it's NON-STOP WST EVERY WEEK. If I wanted to do the WST 3 or 4 times per night, I could get on teams EASILY.
And you're not finding teams on a more populous server? You're on the wrong global channels. I'm on the 3 biggest badge/TF channels on my server and there are TF teams CONSTANTLY. Seriously. I did the Kahn TF TWENTY-FIVE times that week. (Because it can be run fast and I really like it.)
I know it sounds trite but, if you're having trouble getting teams on Freedom, "you're doing something wrong."
Maybe if it were something more reasonable like a DAILY strike target I'd be fine with it but I don't want to just repeat the same TF for a week straight. Some times I don't even want to do a TF at all but it's the only thing I can find to do. It's only fun for a day then it's just aggravating. -
I'm getting really aggravated with this game lately because it seems the higher my level the less likely I'll ever find a team.
Freedom is one of the two most populated servers followed by Virture and Freedom is the server I play on yet I'm far more likely to find a team on any server at level 1 and team with a bunch of people who most likely is their first time on the game than I am to find a veteran at level 50.
My lowest level character on Freedom right now is not even really that low, he's 47, and I can't ever find a team because everyone is either new to the game or on their 50's. The only way I've found around this is by joining 50's in the weekly strike target when possible.
But I've learned that specific TFs give specific components and non-50 TFs don't seem to really do anything. So like finding a Sister Psyche team during her Strike Week seemed impossible. 50's didn't want to do it because it doesn't drop shards and lower levels didn't want to do it because they thought it was just for the level 50's.
This week is Manticore which is not 50 so I figured no one would be interested in it again and today I was unlocking the Alpha Slot on one of my 50s and it took me a little over an hour to find anyone to help with Trapdoor and the following EB mission. This is the 4th time I've done it and the first 3 I was able to find people within 5 min. but not today.
Following that I'm currently trying to find Lord Recluse (Essence of the Incarnate), Barracuda (Dimensional Keystone), and/or Lady Grey (Hero 1 DNA Sample) SFs so I can build Musculature Boost to slot my Alpha with. Yesterday I had this same issue where I couldn't find any of these TFs and eventually just formed a team myself for Lady Grey. Today I attempted that again and can't even get a response to join a Lady Grey team.
I may be paranoid but I can't be the only one on a full server trying to get this stuff done. There were 3 RWZs today and you expect me to believe that out of 3 different instances of the RWZ there is not anyone forming or joining a Lady Grey TF?
This is ridicules. And they're trying to up team sizes to 48 for issue 20? How about we down grade instead and just make the entire game solo-able because no matter what I'm doing I always seem to be solo 90% of the time anyway and when I am on teams it's only because I have to be and takes me forever to find one. I like to be able to play this whenever I want to play not stand around for hours desperately trying to find someone to team with.
I've literally been standing in Grandville for over an hour before deciding to write this and have check back between paragraphs. I'm still on the game right now, still looking for a TF... and guess what... there has not been a single broadcast, not a single request, Freedom Badge is quiet, and not one tell. There are approximately 132 level 50's on right now and that's only on the villain side. How can it be this quiet?
The only response I ever seen to get is when I say "Hello" and then someone says "Hello back" and that's the end of it. I try to join teams or start teams but nothing. The only thing I seem to be able to do right now is use the game as an over-glorified chat room.
What does a guy have to do to get a freaking team around here? -
Quote:Perhaps you didn't understand something I said because you're response to it is a contradiction. "No, it's not lazy." followed immediately by "And you're right, no one really has to do the content if they don't want to." What I said was actually "It's lazy BECAUSE you don't have to do it."No, it's not lazy. And you're right, no one really has to do the content if they don't want to. Of course, that means once you've reached 50 and purpled out your character you can no longer progress. City of Heroes has been known as a very solo-friendly game for a long time. That's part of the appeal for some people. With the endgame content being added that's changing. Sure there is always the option to exemplar or roll a new toon, but how many times must we do the same content over and over again before before it becomes reasonable for us to want something more to do?
If you were being forced to participate in the content you didn't want to do then you'd have a legitimate reason to complain about it. Because it isn't forced on you and you're complaining about it anyway then you're simply being lazy.
Oh as for the game being "solo-friendly" you obviously haven't been here as long as I have because the dev have designed the game to be "team oriented" There are ways around this depending on your build but this game has a long history of nerfing anything that can easily solo. Oh course things have changed ALLOT sense Positron took over as the lead designer in place of Statesman who actually sold his share of the rights to this game before he went off to make Champions Online. Positron has taken some of Statesman's old ideas and totally reworked them. The Incarnate system for example was originally could to be an entire new Epic Archetype that Statesman mentioned shortly after Khedians were made.
Quote:What you're saying is that not wanting to take advantage of a QoL feature is the same as not wanting to grind unpleasant content to to develop a character past 50? For some reason I can't see how the two are similar.
I could use two other completely different examples with a similar mind set. When PvP came out, I was really excited about it at first because of the challenge of being able to fight another player... then I realized that PvP in this game meant that you got no freaking rewards and I was like "Why would I want to waist my time playing in PvP and get nothing for it when I could be doing PvE and actually advance in this game." After a while I finally stopped complaining about it and just ignored the content even existed.
Another is IO's, something I think looks really great on paper but I don't like how it was actually implemented in the game. I've attempted to use IO's multiple times but every time I do I end up finding something else I don't like about the system. Eventually I just decided to ignore it entirely.
Things I like about IOs vs things I don't like
They never go red but they never get any better either.
The benefit of never going red was that you don't have to replace them because a red enhancement is like an empty slot. I don't see this as a real benefit though because if you load a level 30 enhancement that bonus will still be exactly the same at level 50 meaning you would of had to replace it anyway because higher level enhancements will have a higher bonus.
If you have X number of enhancements from the same set you get a set bonus. What it doesn't tell you is that the entire set has to be loaded into the same power and with some sets this causes the need to load enhancements you don't even need into a power just to get a set bonus when you could have an enhancement of a different type in that same power that would actually give a greater benefit to the power itself then the enhancement needed for the bonus. Example: Putting an Accuracy/Defense DeBuff into a power that doesn't even take Defense DeBuff. (You can slot it because it's takes accuracy but that's a waist because you're only getting half the benefit for the enhancement)
Some set bonuses are for specific powers that I don't even normally slot, like travel powers. If they could be slotted anywhere this would be fine but because I have to put multiple enhancements into the same power this requires wasting enhancement slots on a travel power to get a set bonus. I could be putting the slots into powers I actually use to fight instead of travels.
The basic idea of IO's is great but how they actually work is overly complicated. Apparently some people actually like them but I don't. Whenever I did try to use the damn things it basically just sucked all the fun out of the game for me because instead of playing I think I spent about a week just reading up on these things and how they work before I could even use them properly and after all that wasted time I still ended up going back to SO's because they're quick and easy to slot. Hell even HO's are easier to understand and they have the same basic concept just without all the confusing crap piled on top of them that makes them frustrating for me to use.
I'd much rather do a Hamidon raid to earn an HO than to create an IO and try to figure out how to slot it. Fighting Hamidon and slotting an HO takes less time that reading all the befits of any particular IO and is allot more fun.
Honestly what this all boils down to is, I'm lazy and don't want to deal with it. You know you're thinking it after reading all that. -
Quote:I don't think it's really a matter of "I don't like raids" as it is "My computer can't handle raids".The complaint really has very little to do with <50 content. The complaint has to do with the incarnate system requiring participation in raids to progress in any reasonable timeframe. If you solo or prefer smaller groups the options are A. to suck it up and play the raids you don't like; B. grind for an obscene amount of shards to convert into threads; or C. ignore the Incarnate system entirely.
Personally I can handle raids IF I turn my graphics down to the minimum settings however I can run Ultra Mode for anything else in the game. However I didn't always have such a great computer so I know what it's like to play the minimum graphics and still lag so bad that I can't move. This would leave allot of people out of the raids who can't afford to upgrade their computers to handle the lag. My current computer I only got last Christmas, the first 5-6 years of game play was painfully difficult to do raids with.
I was actually having an in game conversation about this with one of my global friends who doesn't like the idea of a 48 player raid team because her computer can't handle the lag that would cause.
That being said if you're still doing 8 player TFs which doesn't cause any more lag than just doing normal missions there shouldn't really be an issue. And the weekly strike targets seem to all be TFs not raids so you could just do that.
If lag is not the issue well then, people are just lazy and really shouldn't complain just because they don't like one aspect of the game that they really don't have to do.
I'm not complaining that I had to respec all my level 45-50 characters for Inherent Fitness, I'm just admittedly being lazy and not wanting to do it. :P I actually spent an entire day just doing respecs and still have more respecs to do. Two of my characters needed respecs anyway and I've just stopped playing them for a while till I feel like doing it and the other two are heroes I'm currently working on switching to Villains and unlocking Patrons before I use their respecs. -
I kinda just glanced threw the conversation here so correct me if I'm wrong but it kinda sounds there's two entirely different conversations going on as a single argument.
On one side of the conversation someone is saying "I don't want to do Incarnate related content because it's basically requiring me to do existing TFs and Raids not all of which even give me the Incarnate benefits."
On the other side of the conversation someone is saying "So you want the rewards but you don't want to do any of the work to get them."
To me it doesn't sound like the second half of that conversation is really the problem here and they're in a whole different subject. It sounds like the complaint is "How is being an incarnate going to matter if A. My incarnate abilities only work at 50 and B. Not everything I'm doing as an incarnate is level 50."
Now I would agree that if someone was merely complaining that they wanted rewards for doing nothing (Gives evil look to power levelers and leeches) then they really have no right to complain just because they're too lazy to actually do anything themselves.
But the complaint being "Why am I getting rewards I can't even use" is perfectly valid... in a way... If you've been around long enough you should be aware that Accolade powers use to be restricted to the level you earned the accolade in the first place. My first character wasn't even aware accolades existed until after he was already 50 so this resulted in me loosing my accolades every time I exemplared down. It was like, why did I spend all that time earning these things if I can't use them? It kinda makes the effort to get the rewards rather pointless if you can't use them.
That being said, no one is forcing anyone to participate in content that isn't level 50 so if this is the issue you could just limit yourself to level 50 content and if non is available use that time to work on your alts. Don't wanna do Strike Targets unless they're level 50, fine don't, but don't complain about new content being added that IS level 50.
