I currently have a FA/FM Tanker that I love, but I'm looking for something a little different. I can't bring myself to move back into the ranged/support type archetypes after feeling the power of standing in the middle of several groups at once without batting an eye. I like the speed at which my Tanker drops mobs currently and I understand that moving away from Fiery Aura that will drop some.
These are what I'm trying to compare:
Inv/FM Tanker
FM/Inv Brute
FM/Inv Scrapper
I also have a SS/WP Tanker in his mid-20's and like it so far, but I don't know how it compares to Inv on SO's only. This I suppose is important. I do not have, nor am I currently willing to purchase, an IO license. I'm looking for comments/advice on these selections.
Thanks in advance. -
Thanks for the tips. I will keep that in mind as I slot this guy out.

Thanks for your comments. This is exactly what I am looking for.
I have changed a few things after reading your post, but I am not looking for the best of the best and I want to keep a few things for character concept, specifically Cloaking Device. The other is Hover. I am planning on using it in battle, but not always incorporating it into my play. I mostly plan on using it as a travel power, but will use my temp powers when necessary.
I threw in the control powers, but am really unsure the best way to slot them.
I am not looking at IOs just yet, but I do plan on it eventually.

I do plan on using Hover in battle, but I also plan on using it as a travel power with the Safeguard temp powers in larger zones.
I understand your argument for not slotting defense, but I was able to get 13.1% to all and I figured with SG at 7.64% -to hit it was basically 20.74% def to all with only SOs. To supplement that I have 30% dmg res to smash/lethal. These are of course Mids numbers.
I am not looking for IOs yet as I have only just started.
I can see moving slots around and removing the +def but I run into the problem of not knowning what to slow in my attacks. For the cones I have 1 acc 3 dmg and 2 range but Burst and Slug are 1 acc 3 dmg and 1 recharge; what should I use in the suggested 6th slot?
I attached a new build with slightly altered slotting for review. 12.1% def SG 5.88% -to hit; 17.98% def to all in my eyes. 3% less def but much better acc.
Also added recharge and acc to SG and acc and range to Ignite. Modified the Caltrops and Web Grenade slotting as well. Web Grenade is tough for me to find decent slotting.

I am posting a build below for suggestions and tips. Some of this may seem a bit wacky but I am trying to get a nice level of defense as well as ranged damage.
Also, I am still trying to find a place for Weave. I told you this is a bit wacky...
I posted on the general forum that I was looking to make a tough ranged damage dealer and that is what I hope to accomplish with this. I am going for a special forces character concept hence the Body Armor, Tough and possibly Weave. I know they may not be the greatest for Blasters, but unless they will tank my build I want them; and it looks like I was able to get all of the major powers.
Also, I went with Fly but am toying with the idea of slotting out Hover and Swift and dropping Fly itself; opening up room for another power. I was thinking moving Swift to 14, SG to 16 and putting Weave in at 47.
This guy has special gloves and boots to be able to hover...that's what I'm going with.

Thanks for your replies. I have decided to go ahead and go with an AR/Dev blaster this time around. I will post in the Blaster section as to not clutter the general up with specifics.
Thanks again! -
I have a Fire/WP Scrapper already and enjoy him but it seems to be lacking something and I just can't put my finger on it. I am looking for a character concept that I can really get into.
I love Fire, but it seems a bit too much as far as graphics are concerned. Claws seem overdone and I have done BS already. Way back when I had a Spines/Dark and MA/Regen (during what some might call the glory days).
I was thinking something that could be more natural like Katana/SR, DB/SR or MA/SD. I can see DM being a nice match up for either of the secondaries. But I am not limiting myself to Scrappers in anyway.
I guess my biggest problem is I want to be tough, but I absolutely hate NOT having range. My first characters were a Fire/Fire Blaster and a Storm/Elec Defender. The survivability of my Defender was awesome but I always wanted more damage; like I got with my Blaster.
I am reaching out to the community for suggestions on which way to go this time around. How well do Archery/Devices or AR/Devices handle as far as survivability? I understand that there is a point in which you need to blame the player, but I am laying out the fairly open question anyway.
Any suggestions for a natural hero?
Thanks to all in advance for taking the time to respond. -
Thanks. I changed it and that dropped Shields +def. I am trying to decide which of these I want to use now. I want a def secondary and both are appealing. I guess I'll just need to make them both to figure it out at this point.
Thanks for all your help. -
I looked at all +def powers from each at the base level. As far as I understand, each exhancement grant percentages and you gain better return from larger base numbers.
Something doesn't seem right about this and I know it has to be me. -
I was looking at Mids trying to decide which scrapper to make. I currently have a Fire/WP, but was looking to try either SR or Shields next.
Is this correct? Mids shows SR having less base def than Shields and Shields has res on top of that. Am I missing something? -
I have been gone for a while, but have come back and playing my Thugs/Dark MM.
I don't remember this from before, but I have been having serious issues with runners. I don't mean they get near death and take off for survival; I mean minions and LTs alike running at the start of the fight and not coming back.
Anyone else having this issue? -
I've made my first RP char on Virtue. The problem is, I'm having trouble getting started on his bio. I know exactly what I want to happen to him and how certain events shape him into the hero he becomes. I have names, dates, places but I just can't get started. (That was always my problem with writing)
I was really hoping the more experienced writers here could help me out. Once I have the intro done, I can fill the rest in. If anyone here can help, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm trying to put that into an intro about how he was born (seemingly a normal boy) into a normal family. I'm just having trouble putting it into words. If you can help, but need more info, please let me know.
Please, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -
New to /binding. I'm using Sinabyss's binds (as I like the flight on demand idea). I'm using the default (QWES) keys for movement (AD for strafing), so I changed the original g in Sinabyss's bind to z for the toggle. Only prob with movement I'm having is moving forward/backward and strafing at the same time...not a prob, cuz I don't do both at the same time. I was reading about people having movement problems and wanted to know if that was it or if everyone has gone with the traditional WASD. I left the rest of the bind the same letting me fly in all directions to move out of danger while still being able to turn while I'm moving.
And forgive me if anything I just said didn't make any sense whatsoever. Usually ends up that way. )
And thanks again for posting all this guys.
