  1. 10:55 of the character creator? I wonder how long that might have been if you had messed with the color pallette .
  2. It really is a shame for Aral, the theme of the contest really was right up their alley. But I think the person who made the operatives video is still around, or around again, where were they eh? Maybe they live outside of the US too...
  3. It happens with brand new demos too, at least with me.
  4. We'll show those pvp'ers how a real video is made!

...some of the best footage can be had while you're taking a dirtnap, you know.
  5. As is mine, whee!

I'll take some time to watch/rate/comment on all of these videos eventually, but I'll have to do it in bits since I don't know how many more times I can watch that commercial.

alright, so two days later I'm still compressing... Damn I hope I don't get disqualified. Is it even worth it to e-mail David?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely. I've just gotten a second attempt uploaded to gametrailers as per his request and it looks like I'm going to be entered. I probably should have changed the text to be a little more readable in the meantime, but meh.
  7. I'd be up for that, if I can make it. I have a good range of characters to choose so pretty much anything is fair game for me.
  8. The timing bug is just something that happens from time to time. I'm not sure what causes it, but things just get saved in the wrong order and you end up with a messy demo. It would probably be easier just to try to record a new demo rather than try to fix the existing one.
  9. I got an email this morning from David asking me if it had uploaded yet (I sent the message sometime before the contest ended). We'll see what happens. I wonder if they're going to extend the voting period because of this, though.
  10. Nothing yet here either. Though there were plenty of people who submitted/emailed before I did, so I'm probably a bit lower on the list. I used to think a bit highly of gametrailers until this.
  11. Just finished watching the submissions, great work guys and gals!

No surprise that my entry is still compressing, hopefully everyone will be able to get their videos in.

I've also got my video up on wegame now for a better quality version.
  12. Well folks and folkettes, I finally got something finished enough to submit. I had a different concept entirely at first, but that just wasn't fleshing out and I think I was trying to do too much with it. Anyway, it really wasn't working at all so I scrapped it and went for something much simpler. I've been cramming over the past few days to get something in and ended up with something just over 2 minutes long. I probably would have gotten more done with it, but good ol' Murphy likes to stick his nose in my business at times like this. It may not even get uploaded in time, but meh.

But I digress. Here's my entry for the contest. Win or lose, I hope you all enjoy it . As usual, youtube kicked the vid quality in the junk (at least with respect to the text) so I'll have to get a copy up on a site that doesn't stomp on the quality so badly later, and possibly get it hosted somewheres too.

I'll have to look at all of the other entries later, because I'm well past tired.

    Walking police

Just ran a quickie test and walkcycle worked just fine for that model. Are you sure you're entering it correctly?
  14. No need for photoshop, you can place your characters in just like you would an NPC. The only real difference is that your character uses a lot more lines.
  15. I'm having issues as well. Partly because I don't have tons of time (and therefore energy) right now, but also because it all just seems, I dunno, forced.
  16. Ahh yes of course... unless you like editing shortcuts a lot .

Additional general questions as a first time FRAPS user:

How to (or can you) remove -
    - your toons name and title?
    - NPC and other's chat balloons?
    - the game tray (I know how to clear the nav and the chat)?
    - any 'conning' cursor (brackets)?

Thanks in advance for anyone who answers!

The best way to get rid of all of this would probably be to utilize the /demorecord function.

I think yours is certainly best amoung those....is there a place to vote, or are they handling the selecion in-house?

If it's a vote thing, we need to get the word out.

I don't think they're ranked at all. It's just a playlist so someone probably just did a search and added them in.

    Demo help please

It doesn't look like there's a way to do it right now, as far as I can tell. There's no way to put manticore's mask on a regular player either, I'm afraid.
  20. Not sure if you missed this, but it was in the info for the video:

This promo also uses the Pfeifer Broz. trailer music that many soundtrack and trailer fans have been trying to get in the clear for several years (as heard in trailers for "Phenomenon," "Tuck Everlasting," "The Rookie" and other films).

    Demo help please

Well this is a very interesting problem. I did a little messing about on my own and found that adding an NPC to a base makes most of it go invisible. The only things visible were Players, NPC's, and base objects that you can interact with (teleporters, vault etc.). It happened whether the NPC was replacing the player or just being stuck into the demo.

The really strange thing is that the base was still a big empty sky of floating objects even when I took the NPC back out, even though the original demo worked just fine.
  22. Well, the first thing I noticed is that you've got a lot of UI blocking the action in video #2. It really takes a lot away from the video imho. I much prefer the first video for this reason.

As for the picture quality, youtube loves to stomp on that. What resolution did you use in your video?

You can write your own demos, though I wouldn't suggest writing one from scratch. You can do just about anything in editing demos, whether it's changing camera angles or making NPC's do dance emotes. Just how you do all of that can be a bit of a long explanation though, so I suggest reading a few guides on demo editing.

What type of video should you make? Well, that's up to you. If you have a concept for a story video, then by all means go for it.

As for having to buy stuff? Well, you can go out and buy video software and whatnot but it's not something you have to do. You can still make great videos using what you have now.

The best advice I can give anyone on making better videos is simply to keep making more videos. As with anything else, you get better as you gain experience. Also, get inspired! Take a look at what other people have done, see what you like/don't like about different videos and think about if that's the sort of thing you'd want to make. The fan videos thread at the top of this forum is a great resource.

And one last thing- always feel free to ask questions. Even if you're stuck on something simple, there's probably at least one person that has had the problem before you.

I look forward to seeing your next work, good luck!
  23. Wow, your demos just keep getting better and better. I look forward to seeing your next work!
  24. Someone beat you to it in the fan videos thread. Still a great video though .
