  1. Or just go to the comic download section. Cuppa's link won't work for me for some reason, but going to the appropriate section doesn.

Ah well. Stranger things happen in the world of IT.
  2. A player who wants to just cause problems for his side can take over the turrets of a friendly pillbox and dismiss them, destroy all of them and leaving the pillbox defenseless.

I recommend removing the dismiss command for turrets.

The question I asked Statesman via PM (sent January 13):

    [ QUOTE ]
Quick question about the status of skills, since it came up on the forums again...are they still under development or permanently shelved?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    His reply:

    [ QUOTE ]
    Shelved.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Problem here is he probably didn't notice "permanently." It would be folly to comment on anything absolute, States has learned this from incidents in the past. Shelved usually means "put aside until later."

Or he just didn't want to or didn't have time to elaborate and mention that it's now an "Invention System" and not "Skills" anymore.
  4. There might be some updates for Volume 2, but probably not. My initial attempts to open a line of communucation (through e-mails) for cameo information back when we switched to Top Cow were ignored. The artist recently posted on the forums a few times, but he's unable to give me much info than a couple of the names he can remember off the top of his head.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
I don't think the first one is in conflict, it's just much more vague than Arctic's story.
I'm not so sure where the conflict is with the dauntless quote, the story doesn't mention him at all, unless you're talking about something I don't know about.
The third one is a definite conflict. I think the only way to explain it is that she's legendary and that certain untrue myths are circulating about her, and one of them is so well known that it got onto an official city history plaque.

In a related topic, I now think that Galaxy Girl is kinetics/force field. Force fields are her offensive set just like the ones bizarro Numina uses. The story mentions that she was "blasting evil-doers with bolts of force". This could be interpreted as energy blasts since few would say that those AREN'T forceful, but I think that it suggest a raw force, which would tie in more easily with her kinetic powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
While my post's initial intent (when I wrote those sentences before the quote) was to offer corrections, it was ultimately just to display all the in-game text references I could find.

    Original post edited to clarify.

Edit: Nevermind, forgot about time limit on edits. Anyway, I'll agree. There's not too much conflict going on.
  6. There are a few things not consistent with plaques and badges quoted below. Simple enough to fix one way or another. I like the story we have NOW, as opposed to what a plaque describes.

    [ QUOTE ]
Kelly Graham never thought she was destined for greatness. That changed one night when she was walking home from her job in the Crey secretarial pool. She came upon an innocent woman being dragged into an alley by some masked men. Kelly called out for help, to no avail. As her fear and anger grew, she launched herself toward the alley. After a blur of flying, energy blasting, and healing light... Galaxy Girl was born.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Dauntless was Galaxy Girl's sidekick until he died in battle, defending his mentor with his last breath.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
This plaque commemorates the death of Galaxy Girl, who fell in battle with the Rikti. When it became obvious that the heroes would have to fall back, Galaxy Girl insisted that she be the last to retreat. Remaining on the front lines, she used her healing light to save the lives of many of her retreating comrades. Witnesses say that she used her last bit of strength to heal her friend Ms. Liberty, rather than to save herself.

    [/ QUOTE ]
  7. [ QUOTE ]
He types /chat beta 1 and get this response:
"chatbeta 1 args, you have 3. Allow your client to participate in the Chat Server Beta Testing. Specify '1' to allow, '0' to disable chatbeta <int>"

    [/ QUOTE ]

    It's /chatbeta 1, not /chat beta 1
  8. [ QUOTE ]
No feedback when I try to add a global friend. There is no indication of "username does not exist!" or "Friend request sent!" so I can't tell if I'm mis-typing or what.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to correct this statement after further testing. Feedback DOES occur when I remember to use "@" when inviting. However, if I simply attempt to add the character name and not the global name(referred to as player name in documentation... I'd recommend character instead of player.) and they aren't online or don't exist, I get no feedback. The only feedback character name adding seems to generate is if they aren't in the chat beta yet.
  9. I apologize beforehand is this has been mentioned, it's a big thread.

Problem/Issue: No feedback when I try to add a global friend. There is no indication of "username does not exist!" or "Friend request sent!" so I can't tell if I'm mis-typing or what.

The "invite" window, which lists the users on-channel, ought to be renamed to "Channel" or "Channel Options" or something. Also, it has no blue or red buttons to manipulate or close the window. You have to click tabs and uncheck the bubble to get it to close.
  10. The channel exists until everyone deliberately leaves it. logging off does not remove you from a channel.
  11. Keep getting "file damaged" as well. Why the PDF format, anyway? Or at least a listing of the slash commands available in a regular HTML doc? 300+K on a 33.6Kbps connection isn't fun, especially when I have already repeatedly tried to download the file.
  12. Full guide can now be found at GameFAQs.com !

Updates will be posted there, in individual posts in this thread, and eventually ParagonCity.com's revamped website.

Right now Xanatos and I, mostly Xanatos, are attempting to get in touch with the next comic book artist to get cameo info. Failing that, I'll hit up CuppaJo for some ideas and hope I don't get the same generic "Oh, they'll have to reveal themselves" bull I got on the last HoC.
  13. Ugh, I really regret not seeing this thread earlier. I am already a good 15 pages too late, and I apologize if I repeat anything said already.

The whole "leaders being able to go inactive and remain untouched" thing needs to be addressed. My SuperGroup started as a group of friends, so we just promoted eachother up to the top rank so everyone had an equal standing. That's bit me in the butt, though, because only 2 people of that original group of 10 people still play. We've got folks who haven't logged in since the first month of release stuck on the roster, with no way to remove them.

An auto-demote system is really what I would suggest. Just run something every week during a maintenance window that sorts through the SG DB and bumps people down from leadership positions if they meet certain requirements. My recommendation would be: Hasn't logged in for 30 days, and there is at least 1 other leader.

Maybe something more elegant and simple would be a "disband SG" option? If you're top-ranked/founded the group, you ought to be able totally wipe the group away and begin again if you wanted.

Hell, the SG creation process needs tweaking too. Right now you can't "check out" what a logo and colors would look like on your character; the moment you hit "next" (or accept, whatever) and get to pick how your toon will look in SG mode the SG is created and if you made a mistake in the logo or colors you have to completely disband and start from scratch.

The inclusion of a $SGMotto variable so we finally have a need for the motto would be great.

    Issue #9
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
The attempt to get answers about Horus' origins continues, while
Apex and War Witch do their own part in the hunt for the 5th Column
base. 2 more contest winners (or something) appear in this issue.

Enigma - The male in dark/black and green armor who joins Apex and
War Witch in Independence Port. Has what appears to be Super Speed,
but is given a green color for the f/x. Has a few lines, mostly
    one-liners like the comical, "BLARGH!"

Mentl Midget - Short male in shades, a fedora, a suit coat, and
tights... all very red-brown or maroon. Is a Force Field hero and
has plenty of lines, and has an important role in tracking down the
    5th Column base.

Jack Emmert - Not a spectacular likeness, but this developer of CoH
appears in the elevator with Horus.

    Changes to Rage

    [ QUOTE ]
Man I can't believe it. It's absolutely horrible. I hope its a mistake.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dude, do you not read the dev digest? It's clearly an error that the Rage change got moved to live.

That said, I've removed rage from my tray as well since I continue to accidentally use it. Just too much of a habit.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Contacts give out another series of missions – story arcs. These are linked missions that form a much larger tale. Players normally receive story arcs only after they’ve leveled their Contact up to the highest level.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure if you are stating that this is a goal for the Mid-Term, or how it should work already. Because, normally, I can get a story arc started with only a few pixels filled in my contact's reputation bar.
  17. Razoras

    Changes to Rage

I enjoy Rage the way it is. It has NEVER killed me. Not once. I simply don't use it in situations where I might die, like teaming with others. It's a soloing power, in my opinion, nothing more. And in a solo mission, the chances of me getting killed while I'm stunned (and playing my invuln tanker) is astronomical.
  18. Hmph! I can't edit the first post anymore, since there appears to be a time limit for editing. Ah well, updates will be replies I guess.

    Issue #8
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Contest winners begin to appear in the comic books! The first contest
winners won the Bumper Sticker Contest, earning themselves an Issue #8
appearance. An NPC, Kayla, also makes her 2nd appearance.

Payback - Referred to a "Captain Planet lookin' fella" by Kayla. Aside
from the black hair, pale skin, and white t-shirt it is a fairly
accurate description. Several lines and an interaction with primary
    characters.

Lady Flame - Scantily clad, "hot blonde" character. Literally, a hot
blonde... with the flames and all. Several lines and interaction with
    primary characters.

M'lojnir - The electric blaster in the first flashback of a conflict
between Crey Industries and a hero. No spoken lines.

Badmoon - An assault rife blaster wearing black and red armor. He is
in a flashback, only this is a different conflict with some Paragon
    Protectors. No spoken lines.

Supergroup AKLM - Appear in the top panel of page 7. Left to right they
are: Victor Wells, Jennifer Render, Rayvenwolf, Lightning-Rod (alt of
artist), Jesse Sterling and Melaine (2nd appearance!). No spoken roles.

Jaded Angel - In the monitor on the first panel of page 10. Only "real"
hero out of all of the other heroes appearing on various screens
    throughout the issue.
  19. Let us not forget: PvP will most likely be seen prior to CoV in the form or arenas that allow heroes to duke it out.
  20. Yes, that was the promised gift for the winners of the contest.

We have 2 player cameos showing up in the next issue that I've been made aware of, but there's more than 2 bumpersticker contest winners. So... I'm not sure what's up with that.

    Player Cameo Guide

Since the artist's forum posts will always inevitably bite the dust due
to the weekly forum purge of old topics, I figured a Cameo guide that
is updated when a new Player Character appears in the CoH comic was
    in order!

As of this update I've also begun working towards a small series of
web pages that will keep track of PC cameos, too. They'll include
all the data I put here, will allow you to sort the list based on order
of appearance, alphabetically, speaking or non-speaking parts, and
other things I can think of. Perhaps number of unique appearances,
should some Player Characters ever return the pages on occasion (which
would be cool, but probably too unfair to everyone else). Scans of
the comics and headshots of the characters will also be included.

This guide will be sorted by comic book issue. Much thanks to Brandon,
the CoH artist, for this info.

    Issue #5
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
This issue is noteworthy because it is the first case of Player
Character cameos. With the exception of Apex and the telepath/mentalist
in red and purple, the jury consists of Beta Characters picked from a
    pool given to the artist.

Freija - The blonde female with the topknot wearing pink/orange (described as
pink by the artist, looks orange to me). Has a non-speaking role in this
    issue.

Janey Kindheart - The female foreperson. Introduces herself by name, and wears
purple tights and has purple hair.

Lady Elenya - Female with black hair and red skin, in a skimpy black outfit.
    No speaking part.

MoJo TeXaS - The rather outspoken male with brown dreadlocks and pimp suit.

Namaste - The mage in blue with an eye in the middle of his forehead, uses
a spell to gather info about the trial. Helps get everyone in trouble with
    the Bailiff.

Pawn of Fate - The lone dissenting Jury member. He has brown hair, eyes without
pupils, and is wearing a white "wifebeater" shirt. This character is known
to have re-created for retail by the player and you might even run into them
    someday.

The Last Ancient - Big male with skin colored black. Has big horns, and no
    spoken lines.

Soljourn - The male grey-skinned, ninja-type sitting next to Fate. Has
    no lines.

Stars'n'Stripes - The redheaded female wearing red, white, and blue. No
lines are spoken in this issue.

Wes The Mess - The big male with blue hair, wearing blue and yellow pants.
    No spoken lines.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    Issue #6
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

The Jury continues to appear in this issue, but go separate ways
eventually. Wes The Mess speaks up this issue, as does Freija with
a one-liner. Janey flirts it up with Apex a bit, too.

New cameos in this story arc are...

Eddie - One of Namaste's SG members*. Male that has black dreadlocks,
dark/tan skin, and teleportation powers. Has several lines.

Firehands - One of Namaste's SG members*. Female blond in
futuristic body armor and a short black skirt. Uses several fire powers and has several
    lines.

Sir Arctic - One of Namaste's SG members*. Large male tanker in medieval
Armor with a big axe. Speaks several lines with a "medieval" accent.

    * It isn't clear if these three were actual SG members, or just turned
into SG members for storytelling purposes.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    Issue #7
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Fate, Janey Kindheart, Lady Elenya, Namaste (with SG members Eddie,
Firehands, and Sir Arctic), Soljourn, Stars'n'Stripes, and Wes The
Mess stick around once more. Not a whole lot of talking goes on by
everyone as they get pounded on by the pair of Titans, except for the
three main characters and Eddie and Janey.

Our first cameos involving non-Beta characters begin in this issue!

Cyberlynx - In one of the tubes at the end. Is the artist's character!

KC Render - Another one from the tubes. Only spoken line: "URRMRR." Is
one of the first characters the artist met in-game.

Melanie - Another tube hero! Also is someone the artist met in-game.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's about it, so far! I'll update this again when I get issue #8!

They are providing a service that people pay for. It's the nature of the beast I am afraid.

[/ QUOTE ] As a former Moderator at a small game called Wulfram II, it's got nothing to do with being a paid for service.
