Again, no, that's not true. Until COH and COV merged, you either had one or paid to get both. Until Freedom hits, only people who bought GR have the new powersets, the Incarnate system and the Alignment system for A-merits.
Even then, the players with the most time or access to resources (influence, people to run activities with, etc) have an advantage over those who don't. I hate to say it, but there's no thing as a fair fight. All the powersets being available do not provide equal footing.
As one player to another, I thank you for providing your feedback, though, and I really do hope the devs do address your concerns. Certainly, there's a lot of ways for them to act on this issue, so our collective feedback is very important for not only current players but the future ones. With as big a change as we'reseeing coming down the pipe, we absolutely need as many different viewpoints as possible, especially ones that disagree! -
I was just thinking, between the normal account theft MMOs have and the recent lulzSec nonsense, what could be done to make MMOs a bit more secure? As such, what's out there from the game companies themselves? Not on their back end, but tools and options available to us players? What should be available to us players? Good ideas you've not seen anywhere yet?
NCSoft allows you to have a master account that has a different login/password than your individual games, which is good. My COH, Aion and Guild Wars accounts all have different logins and passwords.
Blizzard has their famous authenticators for WOW and now Battle.Net (I think).
There was one game that had a captcha in the game itself (Atlantica? Dynasty Warriors?).
I recall hearing another game having a virtual keypad where you had to click in a PIN (an attempt to thwart keyloggers, I suppose).
I think Nexon or one of the other game companies will evaluate your password (one of those strength-meter things).
Is there more out there? Reasonable stuff, mind you... a few Korean games install some stuff that tries to protect the game from hacking, keyloggers, etc, but I don't necessarily think that sort of thing really works.
I realize this is no substitute to being smart about things on your end; not constantly reusing logins/passwords, running scans for malware, etc., but I figure its worth asking and discussing. I expect Freedom to rather successful, and as such would like to see at least one more option come around simply because success attracts parasites from the RMT "industry." -
Quote:And a gecko-summoning powerset for Masterminds. Or neighborhood chickens like the ones that woke me up. And a surfing, paddleboard and boogieboard travel power. And a kanak-attack temp power that puts you to sleep.Only if I get cheap gaudy lei necklaces and Hawaiian greeting girl cosmetic pets. Like Arcanaville, I am not expressing a personal preference. It's objectively good for the game.

Quote:Not really, but I'm in advertising.... Am I the only one who giggles at seeing phrases like this?
For VIPs "free" means - "We'll give you something, but its basically there to sweeten the deal and hopefully retain you as a customer that much longer." VIPs will get Paragon Points, Transfers, Signature Stories, etc. - things Premium and Free players will have to pay for - for "free".
For Premium and Free players, "free" means - "We'll give you something, but its to try and get you to spend money with us." They'll get access to the game and such for "free," but more game options will be denied them until they spend money or, for select content, become VIPs.
Both are excellent ways to accomplish what they're trying to do.
But, yeah, again, I'm in advertising -
So far I'm on page 4 trying to catch up (lets see if my brain handles it!) - some interesting stuff, to be sure, although I can't really say I know where I personally stand on this. I have to admit I'm curious as to what plans, ideas, brainstorms and responses the devs might have but can't talk about.
-
I've always wondered how people come up with what they think a good price is. In this case I'd pay more simply because not all COH players have an iPhone, not all COH players with iPhones use character builders, etc. All in all its really a niche product.
Now, one for a much bigger game with, say, a few million players (and there are a few of those)? $10 is more than I'd go for. Free with ads to $3 sounds okay-ish to me. -
Quote:Correct me if I'm wrong, the Going Rogue powersets are not free at the moment. If you have CoX but not GR, you cannot use Demon Summoning, Dual Pistols, Kinetic Melee or Electrical Control. How is that better than what we have now? Now, ALL powersets are free to paying customers... how is it fair if some are restricted to those who can stump up the extra cash on top of their monthly fees? :-\
edit: And its better, in theory, because if you hate certain AT's then you can ignore that but buy what you like. So, if you only like Melee types, ignore the new buff/debuff, control and ranged types. Likewise, since VIPs get point allotments, waiting to use those points means you can get the new sets at a lower out of pocket price or nothing out of pocket at all. -

Quote:Agreed; some players have time, some don't. Work, school, family responsibilities, etc, can all get in the way of having time to play normally, nevermind getting high-grind items and such. Some of us only have time for a half -hour to an hour every few days to play! Are we lazy? No, quite the opposite!Regardless of the arguments that can be made against the rest of the post, I would like to at least point out: Not everyone who is willing to pay money for stuff is lazy. There are some people, myself included, who do not get to spend NEARLY as much time in-game as they would like to. And I'm still opposed to selling purples in the Paragon Store. Though if the Devs go that route.. well it's their decision.
-
Quote:But then they lose a considerable time sink with nothing to replace it with; spend time and effort or $10 per purple or almost purple? No contest. I'd just as soon see Purples only be available for Premium and VIP players. Purples are a reason to do content for extended periods of time - like it or not grind = time vs reward (as opposed to risk vs reward) which has a needed function in MMOs.I'll be shocked if they don't have almost exact copies of purple sets in the store. It's a total cash cow. People WILL pay for things with real money because they are lazy. You can buy +1 stuff in some F2P games stores. YOU START with +1 gear and people buy them, with points.
And, as mentioned upthread, I'm afraid of the possible social consequences. -
I could see that, Skystreak. Be nice!
And, just to say? Travel powers at level 6 should not be made available in the store. I firmly believe that needs to be a QOL change for the game come i21. Its been a big improvement in my characters since I got that VR, but like Fitness I think it needs to be revisited for the player as a whole. -
Quote:1. Other f2p games sell stuff that gets consumed and/or is limited use, so there's precedence.I don't see anything wrong with that, specifically, but the post I was referring to (and the one it was linked to, ad infinitum) were discussing the possibility of selling Purple and PVP IOs via Paragon Points.
But really, what would be the point of paying real money for an enhancement that's going to die in a few levels when you can pick up max-level SOs for just a few grand in the auction house?
2. Convenience. Got a few pp? Use those and save your influence. No waiting for the appropriate xO to be available on the market.
3. Accessibility. Free and Premium players will have restricted access to the market, right?
And I apologize; I read one thing and my mind jumped to this tangent. -
Chad, if they can make normal level enhancements that vendor for 0 or 1inf, age like normal enhancements (TO, DO, SO), but could be used by any origin? That would work for me. Doesn't really undermine the game systems or economy (I think, could be wrong), useful, not buy to win, etc, making it a decent consumable item for players and the devs.

Content might be better formatted for the phone, and if you save pages/content it'll be faster. Plus, no need to redownload, in case you're near your data cap, no coverage, etc.
-
It circumvents a time-sink put in by the developers (time vs reward as Positron put it on his blog). This would be counter to the purpose of their scarcity which is to keep you playing for extended periods of time.
It also offers a significant, buyable, advantage and could really trivialize gameplay that much faster, resulting in a player being "finished" with the game that much faster.
Finally, if bought, then it could be sold on the market, basically resulting in a round about way to buy influence.
Just my theories, mind you. -
PC? No. But I think it was appropriate given the history Paragon had with the Rikti at that point. War brings out many things in people, and leaders will use those things for better and worse.
-
I wonder what would happen if the Devouring Earth (Primal or Praetorian) tried absorbing a Shivan. Or vise-versa. Hmmm...
Thanks for posting this! -
Sweet! Got a WP7 phone so I can't make use of it, but the more there is to benefit COH, the better!
Quote:I'll be honest - what would be cool is a Kickstart (is that it?) for something like this on all the major smartphone platforms and/or making a definitive mobile website version of the Mids supported by all modern mobile browsers (ie, platform agnostic) so anyone using anything ranging from iOS to Blackberry to WebOS and more could use itNow, if we could just get a worthwhile Mids equivalent for iPhone or Android.
The one currently on the iPhone app store doesn't even have IO support.
Might be dreaming since I have no idea how much work that would be -
Quote:How do I email you a Zip Pac or some Napples? Would saimin be easier? Darn email... Thanks for the awesome work and openness in this project!Yup. Players submitted a ton of great, well-drawn billboard ideas, and the environment team turned quite a few of them into actual game assets. Looks like you guys've found 3 so far--can you find the rest? There are quite a few other ones out there.

The game is from Capcom, specifically.

Hmmm... If I keep going annual, and buy 3 boosters worth of points? It'll be like I'm paying $14.45/month, and I'll get 7,200 points minimum. Hmmm...

I thought DX10/11 required Vista or Windows 7. Seems no different than my experiences with OSX, honestly. "Sorry, we're moving up the OSX requirements for everything, including iTunes, so you have to upgrade your OS and/or hardware."
Hell, they're dropping Rosetta in Lion, so no Lion unless you're running all Universal Binaries or x86 native applications. Home owners might not care, but that sucks for several businesses I deal with. Of course, this is normal for software companies, period, so.... -
Quote:We don't know that... it's unclear from the wording so far. I read it as a one-time expense, personally.Quote:To further illustrate - VIP get's 400 pts, 1 Character Transfer per month and sig story arcs included in their sub.
400 pts = $5.00
Transfer = $10.00
Sig Story Arcs = $5.00
$20.00 per month included as part of your monthly VIP sub.
We definitely feel there's plenty of value there, and there's plenty more benefits to talk about for VIP's.
As such, I think its a one time buy per arc/arcs for Premium and Free players. Makes the most sense to me.
