It depends on how much you want the mouse to do, but I've heard the Razer Naga is cool with the full numpad under your thumb, if you like a wired mouse.

Thanks Gaia and steve, those helped a lot
. I was planning on a single vidcard system but was just wondering about the SLI/Crossfire stuff. Gaia what form of cache do you mean? If you mean the system or windows or whatever I didn't know that could be moved lol. And what is TRIM and how do I know which models/brands have it? Cyberpower's "configurator" doesn't have details on the Kingston ones so I'll have to look them up.
If a Phenom II x4 is around i5, what is i7? I see you selected the x6 1075T, is there anything particularly bad about the 1055T? I saw the GHz was less but im not sure what those mean.
Are the 5770 and gtx260 really able to max the ultramode settings (at 1280x1024)? I thought it would take more than that, I think I had been looking at a gtx470 last time I ran through the configuration tweaking things and watching the total price move.
Probably stupid question; I see most of these range cards have 2 DVI outputs and 1 HDMI, is there such thing as an HDMI splitter if I wanted to use 2 HDMI? I use my HDTV as 1 screen and if I get a new monitor for my desk it would be using HDMI too. -
Quote:If you read the milelong EULA they actually have a couple lines about "we can break/take the game offline whenever we want and you do not earn a refund" lolApparently people aren't making a big enough deal about this for there to have been a hotfix for it yet.
Recap:
1.) People who already have the power cannot use it.
2.) People who want to respec and take the power are locked out because you cannot take it.
This is day two of me being locked out of respeccing my dominator because you guys over at NCsoft broke the game. You've probably also made it unavailable for people who are trying to take it when they level up as well. -
I saw in a recent post about this Doom(TM) Patch that happened to someone, iirc they said closing the updater and running it again got them patched in.

I've been trying to get "the dream pc" designed for a couple months but haven't had much luck with picking a good graphicscard; I'd think I found one that was good and then see it complained about here as someone was looking to upgrade away from it.
The goals for the PC would be 1. maxing CoH with UltraMode settings (@ at least 1280x1024), with nothing turned down at all, I've been playing for years now, mostly on Performance/Minimum, I wanna jump to the opposite end of the spectrum with the new PC.
2. High processing speed, I've been looking at AMD processors over Intel, something like a Phenom X4(High end) or X6.
3. 8(or at least 6 if it's intel) gb Ram
4(?) I saw a demo of a side-by-side comparison of an SSD pc's boottime compared to a fast mechanical one, and am now looking for one of those too, the way I've been configuring pc's on sites lately has been 1 30gb SSD bootdrive and a 2TB sata III data drive.
with a highend processor and ram like that can someone just give me the name of the ATI/Nvidia cards required to push all settings to the max? I've read like 5 different detailed explanations of how to interpret GFX card benchmarks but it makes no sense to me, the names would be easier.
If anyone knows a good configuring site and is up for posting a configuration here that'd be incredible. As far as building goes, I have experience assembling a PC from a one-time thing at work so I could probably do it, but I'd be more comfortable receiving something assembled ready to go.
I was hoping to keep the price under $1500ish, but with the SSD and a gfx card that can play coh how I want it that probably isn't possible. Another thing I have been trying to understand lately is Crossfire/SLI; I know it involves using 2 identical cards and raises performance, but (stupid question) can the ports on the 2nd card be used? like a 2 HDMI output setup? And is it really true certain games/apps can choose to "not support" crossfire leaving you with 1 mediocre card to work with for that app? (without fiddling with drivers? I tried updating a gfx driver this summer and got nowhere, I'd like the new card in this new pc to just come working lmao)
Sorry if this post sounds ridiculously needy, but I've been trying by myself and haven't made much progress. -
Quote:Really? I didn't think it made a differenceSo far as I know, it just plain isn't possible to do anything about that right now.
The killer app for this, of course, is HeroStats, which can only be used in windowed mode under Windows 7 right now. Which is annoying to me, because on my machine, windowed mode gets about 1/4 the frame rate of full screen mode.. Maybe it's time I flip on Fullscreen Mode again, maybe I'll slide some UM bars and find out my computer isn't as sucky as I thought
-
hmm, do you play windowed or fullscreen mode? Fullscreen "fights" "always on top" applications usually, especially on ATI cards from what I've heard (like mine).
-
jp I've been playing with CyberPowerPC's custom configurator for weeks experimenting with things until I can actually afford a new PC (I bet I know the options better than their employees)
if you could scrounge up the $ by midnight tomorrow they have an awesome offer; an update from a Phenom II quadcore to the hex free. As well as a free upgrade to the GTX 460 from the nvidia model below that.
I built -This- that comes to $936 before shipping if you're interested
the quick specs of it are:
1 TB harddrive (Sata III instead of II so it's faster)
8gb RAM
Nvidia GTX 460 768mb
AMD Phenom II x6 1055T
700watt powersupply
NZXT Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan (also a "sale" but it's been free since august)
MemoryCard Reader
Windows 7
The motherboard also has a couple USB 3.0 ports on it and is Sata III, and I threw on a built-in Wifi adapter idk if you'd want it though.
I just selected the base case for it, not to be cheap but because you said you liked the portability of one you found, this one has fold out handles in the top. But cases seem to be more of a style thing than what's required by the system so pick one you like if you don't like that one
(With your system requirement preferences if you want to lower the total for this PC even further the HD can be dropped to the Sata II 1tb, as well as removing the wifi if you don't need it, and the 4 gb ram you're ok with is quite a bit less than the 8[and that drops it to $806 I just checked lol]) -
Quote:wow, I was looking for an UltraMode review/benchmark of the GTX 460 and here it isIm running a GTX 460 1gb on my desktop, I can run the game at max ultra mode, but its not exactly playable, I turn off ambiant occlusions and turn down reflectoins, and keep the rest maxed out, and very playable.
One thing i have to say that i love about the GTX 460, it runs cool. under load she hits about 140° F. it idles about 93°F. A lot better than my old 9800 gt.
i Have one question for ATi users, how does the 5750 run? I see that the 5770 will run COH very well for ultra mode, but, Im trying to look at a budget build and just wondering if anybody has used a 5750
-AG.
The one I was looking at was only a GTX 460 768mb though. I still don't understand what the size after the number represents, but under a gig doesn't sound too good. AG/Anyone; do you know that it's the card that makes it unplayable for you with occlusions etc or another part of the system?
And OP: if you're looking for the baseline UM requirements; when GR came out they re-did all the techspecs on the plaync store, this page has a section titled "recommended pc ultramode requirements" here -
Quote:For some PCs (Mostly with ATI cards like mine) minimizing or leaving CoH to view another open application in fullscreen will cause it to crash, thats why they mentioned windowed mode most likely.I've also been running in full-screen mode, and just using "alt+tab" to switch between the two accounts. Don't know what that's doing to my performance, but since I prefer full-screen and hate dragging my trays around when I stop dual-boxing, it's working for me so far.
I use windowed mode just playing 1 account at a time, with the trays lined up properly, but windowed mode maximized, not a sizable little box.

I also haven't been able to quit CoH without getting "CoH has encountered a problem and will now close" Error message from the game lately. But I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 not anything Nvidia. And my graphics manager CCC (as I said in my other thread), doesn't even launch now so it can't be that. At least in my case.
-
I don't know how to fix it, but if you want one thing i'd try is binding /unloadgfx to something and hit that when it's frozen and see what happens.
-
I tried opening my Catalyst Control Center this morning and realized...it won't open. I click any of the CCC shortcuts from the startmenu and watch the processes in the taskmanager, CCE.exe starts up and then disappears, and the program or taskbar icon never open. So I tried getting the new CCC from AMD.com, I downloaded the installer which said it installed it but nothing is different lol. They had a bunch of options, and I didn't think updating a "display driver" on a laptop was a good idea from AMD so I picked a different option, maybe I didn't update anything idk
.
I spent the morning on CyberPowerPC, this is what I'm up to now:
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/saved/1CLB54
I wasn't sure if the AMD Phenom II X2(the dual-core) was particularly worse, so I added the X4 to the one above. I also raised the powersupply from 700 to the 850 and upped windows 7 a step. The ATI RadeonHD 5830 should be great for maxing ultramode if 7770 is usually the bar for that right? The only thing that concerns me is CyberPower doesn't say which brand they're gonna give you.
If it's easy to gauge would the Phenom II X2 be like Intel i7 range or significantly lower since it's dualcore, I'm probably gonna keep the X4 but i'm kinda interested lol. -
Here is the GPU-Z for my current PC, im not sure how the software works, I had video streaming on my screen and the sensors tab sat at 0.
[/URL]
I tried finding the drivers for it, but couldn't on AMD.com or any of the sites you listed, you mention the Radeon HD 2xxx series, but only with vista, and the site only had the drivers for Vista, but my laptop shipped with that on XP. I looked at gateway too, but they want my serialnumber and I am too tired to get my laptop disconnected from everything to read the bottom lol. -
Quote:When you say minimum here do you mean minimum to turn ultramode on or to max it? If it only takes the 250 to max ultramode in 1440x990 then my PC I found upgraded to the GTS250 should do fine right?Maxing CoH in Ultra Mode @ 1440*900 doesn't take much.
Minimum Graphics card on the ATi side: RadeonHD 4850 for everything at once
Minimum Graphics card on the Nvidia side: Geforce GTS 250
Minimum Processor AMD side: Socket AM2 2.2ghz or higher
Minimum Processor Intel side: Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz or higher, Pentium 4's need not apply.
Maxing CoH in Ultra Mode @ 1920*1200 takes a considerable amount more
Minimum Graphics card on the ATi side: RadeonHD 4870 / 5770
Minimum Graphics card on the Nvidia side: Geforce GTX
And upgrading is just a matter of sliding out the old card and putting in the new one? I had to build a desktop at work years ago, but I've forgotten everything since I just did it the one time.
For the 1920x1200 for nvidia you didn't put a #, just GTX, do you mean any GTX model?
And I remember your guide to UltraMode now, that is an incredible guide. Since I couldn't turn any feature on last time I just skimmed the gist of it and looked at the different stages of pics and effects of each feature, now I was able to compare what the graphics #s mean.
Edit: Looking through retailers of graphicscards, Nvidia's for example, there are all these different "manufacturer" names, how am I supposed to know which to pick, just the cheapest? I thought they were all made by Nvidia if they were a Nvidia GTX xxx card??? lol -
It looks like you run your numbers by the superhigh resolutions. By personal preference I really don't go higher than 1280x800/1024, just because I don't like everything so fine on the 20" screen i'm on. Since you are aiming at 1440x990 does that mean it'd be substantially better on the res I use?
Does the PC I linked seem like it could max coh or get near it? I've never even taken a step with reflections and shadows turned on, I enable them and crash, so if I can't max them all the way but can get close I guess it's not really a loss.
Edit: Oh, and my current graphics card is ATI, not Nvidia or Intel, so I guess I don't get a quick driver fix :/ -
I saw a couple with Phenom but I didn't know how it ranked against the Intel line. So the i7 is slower than Phenom II?
-
After i17 hit, even with ultra-mode turned off, I've been forced down from recommended to minimum graphics settings (yes the devs said nothing would change if you didn't want it to with ultra-mode. They lied apparently
).
My laptop is 5 or so years old anyway, and it's screen died, so rather than upgrade it I figured I'd just get a new one finally. Since they are less expensive, and I don't really need a laptop I'm looking at desktops.
I want to be able to pretty much max coh's graphics with the new computer, so first of all I was thinking i7 processor would be a good start? I am on windows XP and 4gb of ram now and i'm not really satisfied with it's power, and I know the OS wastes a ton of ram now so I was hoping for 8gb of RAM, maybe 6 I guess.
Videocards are where I really am clueless. The computer I found I am starting to think is the one to get has a Nvidia GeForce GT 320, it says it has 1gig of it's own memory, that sounds pretty good but again, I have no idea lol.
My pricerange I was going to give was $1,000-$1,300(max), but i'm pretty interested in this one i found now, for $999.99 it looks like a great deal, but I'll let you guys point out what's wrong with it. I also really wanted Windows7 Premium, but this one is Home, however it has an upgrade thing that can be purchased with it for like $89, is that a good deal, and does upgrading require a harddrive wipe?

Edit: I have 2 accounts I -used- to play at once I would like to again, does this setup look like it could handle 2 accounts on performance/performace, if not UM/performance or better yet (and sounding impossible) UM/UM? -
I have this issue too actually. It doesn't lag, but the 2d images will load gray, or halfloaded half gray, or pixelated out. It gets quite annoying loading an old toon and picking a costume, or picking a costume where 2 are close to identical except for the blurred part of the image.
My computer is pretty old, it's a gateway laptop with an ATI card and 4gigs of ram if I remember right. -
Quote:So THATs what the "Triangles" as I call them, of broken geometry are from LOLLooks like a driver issue. Also the problem you would be seeing with overheating would more likely be the infinite planes issue where certain pieces of geometry like sections of wall or sidewalk or even costumes extend all the way to the edge of the screen in an expanding or contracting plane.
Post the results of the CoHHelper program here and we'll be able to see what video card you have and what drivers.. I've only wondered for like a year

Ocho the players are too good
.
I wanna see a screenshot of the wall of a random building near the back of boomtown with 0% uncovered as the first pic so we can prove the crazy RL superheroes really are psychic or technopaths -
Wow, I just read this and went "I love this idea, i've thought about it once or twice myself and didn't post". lol it's by you Nezz
.
The problem with tailoring the statues would be getting the costume file uploaded to CoX or transferred to your pc by the other player, and if they left without warning you can't contact them 98% of the time. (Lightbulb: Maybe have a character creation screen for the statue, allowing for you to make a "rough sketch" of how you remember them looking if you must)
I usually vote yes/no on suggestions by how hard it would be for a dev to create the feature, if it's possible at all. I'm not sure how hard it'd be to make different texture overlays for the costumes should you get your hands on it to use, but if they could get presets to look decent on all shape/sizemodels of characters it'd be awesome.
This feature would be a great addition to the game, it'd also add great personalization/interactivity to base items, since as of now none available are customizable. -
Quote:On the contrary, I would appreciate this feature so I could stay off of Freedom/Virtue and on my home server when I run out of slotsWhich idea? This board is full of suggestion trolls, which is why sometimes I just don't even respond to particularly bad ideas rather than posting.
This idea would lead to even greater concentration of populations to Freedom and Virtue. -
I have thought about this several times and finally got here to post it:
Has transferring characterslots from one server to another ever been considered? Not the characters themselves, but the ability to transfer the empty slots?
There are various reasons some people dread the thought of "diversifying servers", so for many players they'll have one server with 2 full pages of heroes/villains, and all the other servers holding 12 blank slots. Every way I've thought of it moving them to another server wouldn't affect bandwidth-per-player which I know the devs DO care about.
Someone mentioned in-game while discussing this that it would defeat the purpose of buying slots; going past 36 per server would be a godsend for some players. "But it's -36- slots already", for players that have been around for several years, some for all 6, 36 is nothing, as a player pointed out, that's 12 per year for 3 years, not much for alt'ers. The point of this paragraph being in order to keep the need for purchasing slots around, only be able to transfer slots to a server of yours you've already purchased a certain amount of slots for. Maybe the full 36, but 2 pages or so would be cool.
Hopefully this idea will be taken well, but I saw one of my suggestions here added to the game with 90% negative responses once already

P.S. Devs I'd love a job at ParagonStudioslol

This is something i've thought of a few times but never got around to posting, it'd be a great feature IMO
