dUmb is figuring out who all is signing up and available atm. There's like 17 people on the ladder roster; if everyone on that list enters the league, then there would need to be a break-up anyway.
-
If dUmb is actually fielding a team, I'd be with them...unless we're actively trying to spread out the pool of vets a bit or whatever. I posted on the dUmb GP to see if there was a plan. If there isn't one, then yeah, I'm free.

Infinity Forum PvP?! It's been a while.
-
Principles be damned, I'm just bored lately.
What are your in-game Globals?: @Psoma
What characters do you have on Freedom?: Mind/Emp/PF (just reactivated and transferred tonight)
Are you willing to respec into a PvP build?: I'll have a more current PvP build soon.
Are you willing to roll a new character if needed?: Doubtful. PvE is the devil.
Briefly describe your PvP experience: PvP'd since the arena was in beta. Test arena: ABH (pre-ladder days) and dUmb. Infinity PvP teams: ABH/dUmb/Sexy eThugs. Ran numerous arena tournaments on Infinity. Participated in each IPvPL season. Organized kickballs several nights a week on Infinity for what seemed like forever. Made Mind/Emp sexy. -
Hi UH! If we decide not to go out of town this weekend, I'll play some too.
-
Gratz to the winners-brings back memories. That reminds me: I was cleaning the other day and found a notebook page full of names that had me scratching my head for a sec until I realized it was from a CoH PvP tournament a couple of years ago. It was for a modified swiss-style team tourny, and I remembered that trying to keep track of everything for that one was particularly crazy (because I think we had around 100 people or so that night).
-
I see what you did there...and I got you back. It's good to see another familiar face, IB! <3
-
Me too! And I just gave you rep points. Now what?
-
It sure would ne nice to come back one activation weekend and be surprised by the PvP changes that should've been. I'd resub. Hi to everyone and a special thanks to mac (among others) for being a voice for those of us that finally gave up after fighting for so long. <3's!!!

My advice would be to voice your opinion with your dollar. It's the only thing that matters. Long as you are paying, you are approving of their decisions and direction.

Yeah. After trying everything else possible, I've felt like that's the only thing I could do to make any difference (however small some might say it is). The free week has provided an opportunity to come back, try things out again for myself, and then restate the obvious. Not that the devs care, but the window of opportunity is still there regarding their ability to roll back PvP to i12 and begin actually working with PvP'rs. You want back a good number of subscribers and add even more? Install a dev dedicated to PvP that will actually work directly with the PvP'rs-a dev that loves/has loved it because of what it was: a fast-paced, balanced-around-teamwork system that is best suited for those that build their toons and strategies around anticipating a fight against others doing that same thing. I know many have said that before, but it's worth saying again. I wouldn't bother posting if I didn't still love what this game once was and could be again. -
If everyone would've clearly said exactly what only about 2 or 3 of us did at the time-to not bother with any options unless we could have an i12 rules option to start with-then maybe everyone wouldn't be stuck with the half-[censored] choices they see now. Instead, for that split second after i13's release that the devs were willing to hear what we wanted (to see if they could throw us a bone), they just heard "DR and Travel Suppression are the worst changes!!!" from about 95% of us. So now they just point to that arena set-up screen and say "See! We listened and put those 2 options in just for you guys!!!"
nm I forgot we were talking about CoH devs. I'm certain we would've just gotten no options at all if everyone would've asked for what I did. Just forget I mentioned it.
Oh...I was told that Posi recently said that they were happy with PvP now. Great news! I just thought of an analogy here:
Imagine if a city park official went and reconfigured the baseball/softball field to remove 1st and 3rd base, cut the field down to 1/4 its size, and then posted rules that said everyone must bat with only one hand (the left one) with a 10-inch bat. Okay, obviously all but like 4, mentally challenged residents-you know, the guys that just hang around the official's office in hopes of doing favors for the guy to feel important-yeah, those are the only ones that don't stop playing ball. When the press asks what the park official thinks about the changes and if he's concerned about nearly everyone hating them and not wanting to play any more, he's all just like "Well, I and my office are extremely happy with the new field and rules!" Well, then a couple of months goes by and like 25 residents just get bored out of their minds and, wanting to play ball so bad that they just can't stand it, they decide that they'll just play ball anyway on the crappy field with the rediculous rules because there isn't another field nearby.
I'm just waiting for the park official to walk by and say "See! See! I told everyone this would be a huge success!!!"
Just to be clear, I'm not blaming the residents at all for anything. I just feel bad for them having to work around the clueless officials just to have an attempt at a little fun. It's just pitiful.

I getcha. And sorry if I came across defensive or anything like that. While I'm not personally willing to pay to come back because of the devs' actions regarding PvP, my goal isn't to talk others out of doing something that they feel is fun and worth their time. xo

I'm not saying it was perfect-far from it. But I think they went backwards with i13. Did we not have a good list of changes that would've made a lot more builds viable? Instead, they take the route of changing the PvP mechanics completely, which, imo, just served to make the game less fun. If it were true that more builds/teams are viable, it's certainly doesn't appear to be by a landslide. I freely admit that I haven't been playing since I left a while after i13 came out (see sentence regarding fun), but from what I have been able to observe and see for myself, I'm still of the opinion that the changes have narrowed the viable builds/FotMs.
-
This isn't addressed to anyone in particular, but I'm pretty sure dUmb is not on the list of PvP groups that just copies others' line-ups. I'm not saying they were the first to come with a storm team or anything, but they sure came up with some good variations of it that I never saw from anyone else on the previous ladder. I know that when we were lucky enough to have everyone available to put forth our best line-up (which honestly wasn't very often at all, though we were never known to say so because we were also never known to make excuses), we were a tough challenge.
I think the point here is that the current system limits viable arena tactics more now than ever, which goes against the whole "more balanced and accessible PvP" dev mantra. PvP'rs are min-maxers and will always be the first to come up with the most viable team compositions, but I'm 100% convinced the variations aren't as numerous as they were pre-i13. -
I wish I could say welcome back and let's get back to PvP'n, but the glory days of the IPvPL, the Test ladder, and near nightly kickball are just good memories with pretty much no hope of being renewed thanks to the CoH dev overlords. You ever hear from Soilent Meathead since he left?
-
I would've played last night, but softball trumps CoH PvP. gratz to, um, whoever the other team was.
-
You seriously haven't heard of Dueling Emp Psoma? Dude. All I have to say is Jump Kick FTW.
-
Great news! So, could you kindly remove the craptastic PvP changes that started with i13 and then start implementing the suggestions the majority of us were pushing for-you know the ones thought up by people that actually PvP'd and knew what would make more builds viable (thereby making PvP more accessible) and improve QoL? Thank you kind sirs and gratz on the big win!
-
I think it's been that way for a while, Zet.
Strong, are you trying to install the whole game through the updater? I know Bug was having that problem (since he doesn't have any CDs/DVDs to work with), and the only thing I could think of was putting the game folder on our FTP server and having him download it...though looking at it now, that folder is like 2.78GB. Anyway, I was just curious. -
I'm on dUmb TS and in the game as I type this, btw. I was on messenger just a bit ago.

You're never on messenger when I am, loser. But I know that you're busy now being like the 3rd wife of some guy you met recently. gl with that btw. -
I think he reinstalled to hang out for the free week (like me). I haven't seen him post here yet though.

I don't know what your experience is, but mine is from PvPing since it was introduced into this game. I can tell you without any doubt or exaggeration that zone PvP, arena PvP, base raid PvP, and Test ladder PvP is nothing compared to what it was when I played regularly, regarding both population and fun. I stuck around for a long enough time in i13 to see what happened to zone PvP, btw.
As a matter of fact, I spent a great deal of my time in this game trying to increase PvP interest, partly because I loved organized PvP events and partly because those of us that PvP'd knew exactly what needed to be worked on in order to make PvP more accessible to those that didn't...and we believed that the devs would be more likely to make the necessary fixes and improvements if we could successfully increase the PvP population.
The changes that i13 brought did not achieve what the devs were claiming to set out to do. My point in the previous post is that those of us involved and interested in PvP from the beginning could see the coming problems, offered good suggestions, and were largely ignored.
If you think the zones are active now, you apparently were MIA when the zones actually were very active. I feel bad for you and those like you, because you apparently missed out on something that was a lot more enjoyable than what you see today.
