A new masochist in dUmb wanted to hear all about PvP history in the game (after seeing some in-game chatter a couple of times I had with a couple of recently-resub'd vets) and asked me to do a write-up. I'm way too lazy to even attempt that (and wouldn't do it justice, regardless), but then I remembered this thread anyway, so I'm necro'ing it.

I was told fifa was fates, but I misunderstood the situation and didn't realize he was in the 2nd draft. If I was a responsible captain and showed up for that draft, we could've got him, but I won't lose sleep over it. He couldn't take down Dueling Emp Psoma in a duel with his blaster, so he's overrated anyway. :P

I just copied that from your initial post, so I blame you fully.

I realize that the supplemental draft is likely necessary for some teams, but what bothers me most about it is that it's potentially going to hurt the playing time for a number of original, committed and reliable, D6 people on each team. We, for example, have a number of draftees that have been active on our GP site and in-game chats, and they have shown up to everything PvP-related (like practices, scrimmages, KBs, etc.). We also have a couple of people that have been active but are keeping themselves out of matches until they have readied their choice of PvP toon.
That's the way I was assuming we wanted this to work, but maybe I'm wrong. We are trying to teach people how to be semi-competitive in our D6 team. As things are now, the casual zoner just looking for PvP can say "The rules didn't say anything about me having to join dUmb chat, dUmb GP, or practicing. I'm here now, and I want to play my flying regin!!!" We haven't had this happen to us YET, but other teams have, and with the new draft, it could happen to us soon...or other teams could be getting more of the same.
I guess I'd just like to hear some thoughts as to what can be done to make things a bit better for the D6'rs that are trying to compete. -
Lib and I were not doing lines last night. We don't start that stuff until the weekend.
-
If they've been active and improving, it shouldn't hurt them. Yeah, if a lot of inexperienced, practice no-shows just show up at match time, it definitely hurts. D6 is just not very predictable in that aspect, and we all run the risk of having those people come out to play and hurting the team for that night...though, they hopefully learn and do something to benefit the team for the next time around. We had 7 D6 people show up last night, but all 7 of those had been to at least 1 practice and most had been to the majority of practices. We could've ran 8v8 and would not have been hurt by it, actually.

Someone said something on Vent during the 3rd round about farming someone, and I said that we didn't need to run the score up (hence me Brawling in fiteclub at the end of round 3), but that a certain level of being farmed is actually necessary so that the player understands that something needs to dramatically change if they want to improve. I'm glad that it sounds as if some of your players were excited enough to stick around and learn about what happened.
We have several D6 people that have really been pleasant surprises. Just off the top of my head, I know that Pixel started for us in our first D8 round. He was a higher unknown pick-just noted that he had emp'd in S1 of the TPvPL-all we had to go on. A few others are getting more comfortable as well, and I think have picked up on quite a bit. Anyway, it's fun getting more players to be knowledgeable and into PvP; that was the idea. -
Bitter, I hope you can work things out. I have no idea what's going on with your team, but it would be a big loss for them if you are really quitting. Not to take credit away from our D6 squad, but as I said to several people last night, 2 out of 3 rounds' results were more about line-up/player availability than skill. We played everyone that came out to play, but that didn't result in us having to field any players with "gimp" builds; I don't think your team could say the same. The 2nd round, I feel, was more indicative of skill level.
Anyway, I truly hope you reconsider. Let me know if there's something I (or dUmb) can do to help out. -
I guess we should've discussed all of this earlier, but I think most of us assumed D6 would be 8v8 after the draft because of the high number of draft picks.
This is how it's gone with dUmb's team:
We had 19 draft picks. 4 people have yet (to the best of my knowledge) to respond to tells/PM's, so that takes us down to 15, essentially. Out of those 15, we've had 9 that have shown up to at least 1 practice. We know that at least 2 out of the 9 that stay in touch (regularly) will not be present tonight, and there's always the possibility that more have something come up last-second, etc.
So, my best guess is that we have 7 show up tonight, but we may have less...or we may have 16 out of nowhere. It's just impossible to tell until tonight. I had thought about proposing the rule we had in IPvPL1 where teams had to field a minimum team size to avoid a forfeit, but that team sizes could be larger if both teams could manage it. In this case, 6v6 would be required, but up to 8v8 could happen if both teams have the numbers.
The problem with all of this, though, is that teams could potentially discourage the lesser-skilled players to not show up and drop matches to 6v6 size to favor their odds of winning. I suppose you could come up with some sort of points incentive to play D6 players as much as possible, but I can't think of a fair way to do so. From what I'm reading, we're going with 6v6 tonight, evaulating roster attendances, and then seeing where everyone wants to go from there. I'm fine with that. -
We ran a mix of 8v8s to 5v5s last night for a while after the matches were over, and I'm not aware of any drops whatsoever. That's, collectively, 0 drops out of (I'd guess) around 100 kills for dUmb for the night.

Thanks for the good fights and patience while we sorted through our available people. <3

I believe Slax meant that next practice is Tuesday. Yeah, Thursday is D6 night for matches...but also practice for either before, during, or after matches as long as we have enough.
Edit: And GGs and thanks for being patient, RAFTW! -
I'm guessing dUmb was the only team to not read the OP close enough to see that matches would start 1 week from the draft date. I apologize to our team for assuming that matches would start a week after the schedule posting occurred.

The 'darn' in all caps is pretty offensive.
-
-
Wait...you mean you guys are looking for other teams to practice against? Why didn't any of you ever say anything in arena chat, through tells, or on our GP site? I'm not a mind reader you know.
-
Since I guess GP has been down since last night, and in case anyone hasn't logged into the game to see the MotD, pass the word to remind everyone that we're practicing tonight. Try to be there no later than 9:00PM Eastern, and show up earlier if you can so that we can start sooner if possible. If they were able to get the word out, U2BG was going to try to be available around 10 or so to do some 8v8 practice with us as well.
-
I would like to add an adendum to that adendum so that posts can alternately include Rift, Lion's Den,...or Have A Nice Day as well. Oh, and ABH too.

I started recording the order number of picks, but gave up after like round 1 because going back and forth between our list and Peril's was getting old pretty fast. I should've put the assigned draft numbers from Peril's list on my spreadsheet-was thinking we were just picking according to global names. That's why Empire should've made that thing.
-
It wasn't a public thing, so not really. It was last night and like 3 hours long...picks should be posted in team threads.
