  1. I think I died 3 times on the final mission, all to the Thorn Tree itself, and I had a full Domination bar at that point too. Once we got to the point where we were all attacking it (Brute, MM, Dom, Corr), it went down pretty easy, and no one died... unlike the first Respec trial, where we had multiple TPKs in the final room.

I bet there's some UBER SECRET spot the devs use just to be cool... like you talk to a fire hidrent or type in a certian command or something... like go into a telephone booth and type /superman or something... and it gives you XP for lvl 50 I swear game developers do this all the time, I know I would if i was a game developer...

    [/ QUOTE ]

When we play on the development servers or Training Room, sure... but when we play on Live servers even we dont get any special commands or cheats. We level up just like the rest of you... I know I will be on with my Dominator a bunch this weekend.

Don't hit back. That might be seen as "tit for tat" which, in this context, would be taken quite wrongly.

Hospital shot of Cryptic or the NCSoft QA team or...well, it's gotta be somebody. I don't see Positron or States in there, though. I wish I could see the shirts better.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Someone told me once that that was the original Beta team, was Positron part of that?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That pic was taken 2 months before I started at Cryptic.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I think there's some confusion here. They are in a misison that you enter at portal corp, not spawned from a portal...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, well then in this case it was a new entity created to have Masks spawn outside their normal level range, or with powers they don't normally have.

In any case, a new entity was made, and not added to the badges. There very well may have been the arguments made that "they are not the same Masks, so they don't count", but the sheer amount of confusion and complaints this has caused has made us go back and add them in as Masks that count towards the badge.

THIS I thank you for Positron. Is there any way to award this to characters that would have MORE than qualified for the badge by now? It's been one of my pet peeves for the longest time. Either way, thanks for fixing this one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Sorry, no.

Basically the game only stores counts for what we tell it to count for. These Portal generated guys have never been counted for anything before, so everyone's count on these guys starts at 0.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It seems this part of the code, where enemies that should be part of the same group actually aren't, even though they are identified exactly the same, causes a lot of problems. Maybe it's due for a rewrite. Making it simpler, ie so a BP mask is always a real BP mask, sounds like it would help.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because they are spawned from a Portal they need to give 0XP to prevent exploiting. Because of this, the Masks need to have the attribute of "Reward Scale x 0.0" in them. Now if we applied this to ALL Masks, then no Mask in the game would give XP. So a new entity was created, that was a cut and paste of the old Mask (same powers, names, costumes, levels, everything) but in-game name becomes "Mask_Portal", and the reward scale is changed from 1.0 to 0.0. We now have a new entity that, for all intents and purposes, looks and acts exactly like the original one, just giving 0XP upon defeat.

The person making this change may not know that there is a badge for defeating Masks. The person in charge of badges may not know that there is a Mask_Portal entity that should probably be counted along with Masks. When this happens, you get a situation where a player feels that he is defeating the "right thing" but is not getting credit. This can even go unnoticed for a long time until someone who is specifically working on a badge notices that it is not happening. Best I can do is fix these when they come up. This particular one was never in a bug from NC Soft or Cryptic Internal, the only mention of it was on this forum. Since NC Soft and Cryptic bugs take priority, I had to make sure I cleared all of those before I could begin work on issues from the forums. Which I have been this week.

    Hope this helps.

Positron, can we please get a clarification on whether the plus hp from accolades is counted towards the damage badges?

yes, but did they type Bow Breaker on the Prima guide meaning to type something else (such as Villain)? or are there only 6 requirements for Force of Nature? The Guide is obviously in error, but we're not sure how.

well i cant see what else you would call "nerfing" burn

posi might not remember it but its one of those powers that we "use" to use

since hes not nerfing things..maybe he can tell us when he plans on fixing the power he messed up then?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would call Burn's change many things:

    Power alteration
    Reduced in effectiveness
    Strength modification
    Debuff to the power
    etc.

Just because I don't use the word "nerf" does not mean things will never be adjusted in a downward direction.
  15. I believe it stems from fantasy MMORPGs (or MUDs even) when a player's weapon would be reduced in effectiveness in an effort to balance the game.

It comes from the phrase "You turned my sword into a nerf bat".

Thus "nerfing" something became synonymous with making something weaker.

"Hit with the nerf bat" is a derivitive, but still sees its origin in the original 'sword' phrase, and can be applied to systems outside of the normal weapon and loot ones.

Personally, I hate the word, and try never to use it when talking about the game to players. It carries a very negative stigma that I like to avoid whenever possible.

So where are the devs on this.

States in beta said he would be keeping a close eye on Dom's after all the Dom's are too weak calls.

Then they said in I7 they were still looking and here we are a month later and nothing said.

So where are the devs in all this, it seems like they really dont care much. Its like dom's dont have enough players to be worth spending time on.

    [/ QUOTE ]

States plays a plant/psi Dom (I think), I don't know what level he is yet. Around the end of April, I started a Fire/Energy Dominator on Justice. I'm level 37 now.

Fun? You bet, and I've played all the AT's in both games at pretty much every level. Dominators are definitely my cup of tea.

States and I -still- keep a close eye on Dominators. Datamining supports SOME of the claims made on these boards, but refutes others. Personal experience with the AT also lends credibility to some of the complaints, while showing others are simply blown out of porportion.

I read a bunch of the posts in this thread, not all of them though (yet). A lot of users hit the nail on the head when stating that you can't think of Dominator as "CoV's Controller". We went through a lot of effort to make sure that the ATs played and felt different between the two games. Dominators give up a bit of control for some good direct damage attacks that Controllers would give their left mouse button for.

Then of course there is the Domination ability, which is the real Jekyl and Hyde of the AT. A mild-manner Dominator with a full Domination bar can, at his or her discretion, become an unstoppable machine of destruction and control. While it never lasts "long enough" (even I am disappointed at hearing the sound effect of it wearing off), I've had missions where I have gotten Domination off four times from mission-entry to having Mission Complete appear on the screen. Good times indeed.

We've got a nice tweak to the Domination ability coming down the pipe (it will crank up your Mez resistance while it is active), and are currently data-mining PvP to see what effect our last set of tweaks to the AT have had.
  17. I've lowered the requirements for this from needing the "Nigh Indestructible" badge (100,000,000 damage taken) to "Unbreakable" (10,000,000 damage taken).

This is in a future patch (not on the Training Room yet). I don't know when it will be promoted to TR or to the live servers, but it is in the pipeline.

Howdy I’m Jay. I am one of the character artists here at Cryptic. The other artist that works on characters is Ian. We make will be making all of the new costume options and characters that you will see in up coming issues.

The purpose of this thread is for you to put in your request for costume pieces. So if you want see something on your character please post it here. If you want to point out a bug, there is a thread for that called Jay's Costume Bug Fix Thread.

Costume requests posted here will be addressed in future updates (time and scheduling pending).

Your happiness is our priority; that’s right you, the guy or girl reading this. You guys love to make super heroes and I love to make pieces for you. Its fun coming up with ideas for what you guys want. Here is your chance to influence the future of the costume creator.

I will be looking at this thread every chance I get. One of the first thing I will do everyday is hit “refresh” on my web browser to see all of the crazy things you guys come up with. There is no middle man here, everything you post will be read by the costume guys (Me and Ian). I want you to be happy with all of the characters you create. We may not respond but know that we are reading this thread. Please understand these are requests and many of these will not make it to the game, only the really cool ones will. And when you see something that you requested pop up in the costume creator you can take pride in knowing that it was all because of you. When you see someone running around the game that has a glowing metallic plunger on his head, you can tell him that it was your super awesome idea. When he tells you that you are a nut ball because only a super sassy concept artist can come up with great ideas like that, you can smile because you are not crazy, right?

When posting, please be polite and to the point. The shorter the post the better, plus there is a better chance of the request getting in. Screenshots, Screenshots, Screenshots, they are very helpful in illustrating your point.

Here is example 1: I would really love to have bat wings. Jay is sexy. (Screenshot of some guy with batwings)

Here is example 2: I gots to gets me some Trenchcoat. Jay is sexy. (Screenshot of Trenchcoats)

On Test, the buffs seemed underwhelming. I just had a chance to test them on Live in exactly the kind of circumstances for which they were meant.

Up against Nemesis, EB version. I brew up a couple of buffs: Knockback Protection (only a single tech material, good and cheap) and Disorient Protection (costly, but I don't want to be stunned).

KB protection seems to work, but halfway through the fight I'm suddenly reeling around, stunned. Couldn't pop the health insp that would have saved me. Hmm. Didn't I just invest some fairly rare salvage in some stun protection?

These stations have the potential to be really cool, but as it stands (whether by bug or by design) they just aren't worth the salvage it takes to make them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Multiple empowerment stations will stack the buffs that are offered (by design). If we made the buffs as good as players "expect" right out the gate, they'd be WAY too good when stacked.
