  1. I would suspect that if/when Individual Player apartments are added, they will be paid for by the individual player and probably have a system to reflect that.

Still. When it comes down between a base or no base, you'll all click the SG Mode button.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If Sanction decides we don't need a SG Base, we won't click the SG Mode Button.

Out of interest, does ANYONE think datamining this is a good idea?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would not object to data-mining if they gave us a date from which to start wearing our colors, and then data-mined back to that point.

Example: Let us know that when Bases are added, they will data-mine back to Septemeber 15th, 2005. So that when the 15th comes around, we can decide whether or not to start wearing our colors more often.
  4. One thing is for certain, there's going to have to be somekind of scaling involved. Whether it's Prestige increasing with Level, gained percentage based on membership size or an difference in price with size/scale of product. Otherwise small SGs will get the short end of the stick.

With influence, it scales with level, so even a small group can rack up a sizeable bank once a few characters start getting in to the high levels, thus allowing to at least get close to the profitability of a larger SG.

If Prestige is a flat rate (which I sincerely hope it won't be) then a SG of ten people, even if they're level 50s, will have to spend 2/3's more time in their SG colors than a SG of 30 to make the same.

So there really has to be some kind of scaling on either the side of earning potential or the product available.

If they can ensure that my sub-10 group of Higher Level friends don't have to spend 3 straight months in SG colors to pay the rent, while the 50+ FOTM group that started under Atlas last week only has to spend 3 days in SG colors, I will be a bit more accepting of the proposed system.
  5. True, but we don't know how much Prestige it will cost to replicate an Ornebega map. For all we know a level 15 SG could have to wear their SG colors for a month straight just to buy the basic map.

I still think it's silly not to use the already established influence system. Use influence to buy the basic map SGbase at a lower price, and THEN customize it with Prestige as you go or buy stuff straight out with more influence.

I also agree with Sadako that data-mining is a bad idea, people shouldn't be kicking themselves for not using SG colors if they had no idea is was going to mean something. I'd say when CoV comes out, give CoH SG's the option to start building up Prestige before they install Bases, that way everyone starts on equal footing and has time to build up the dough to buy a Crib.

It still seems silly to me.

Why introduce a whole new (complicated) system when there's a perfectly viable one in place already. And we NEED more things to spend influence on, one can only stand so many costume contests under Atlas.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It does seem silly, but why waste a perfectly good bit of code that his been there since the beginning. Anyone remember the old SG value of "Time" (i think), this was supposed to be time in SG Mode. Now it is being recycled into "Prestige".

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree that SOMETHING needs to be done with SG Mode, but I just think this is a silly thing to do with it.

Now if bases cost influence, but things you PUT in the bases cost prestige, that would make more sense to me.

Um no, those tags are covered by the NDA. Which you have both now broken. I have alerted the authorities.

  10. Frankly, I'd rather we spend influence on bases. Why you ask? Because I'm drowning in the stuff, and I don't even have a level 50 yet. I hit Icon twice a week, my enhancements are always slotted up. We need more things to spend influence on.

Unless "rent" runs in the 8+ digits, I'd say a handful of 50s could probably maintain a SG base by themselves.

And he has a wonderful sense of humor.
  13. I definitely want to see a WWII era story about the Sand Kings, but that's because I'm a big Rat Patrol fan and WWII history buff.

I agree that we need stories fleshing things out like Blue Steel, the fall of Astoria...etc.
  14. *tosses two pennies in the jar*

I think the reason I'm not really digging it so far is that it's just too much story for the first arc. It's hard to care about how the heroes are acting in this situation because I don't know how they act normally. I think if they had taken a few issues to show us the Freedom Phalanx during business as usual, who they are and how the react to each other, I'd get more invested in the story.

I don't know these characters well enough to care about their problems.

Oh yeah, I was there for his "Gemini Park BBQ" event. His characters name was Soil.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I was there for most of that too. I think it's funny that the next day, half of his new recruits had quit the SG and came back to the park to apologize to people.

It's no small wonder Weevil and Boscoe booted his [censored] out of the Liberty League.

Of course, then he made his own group The Hive. (note the period) and found out that there was another group called The Hive (no period, run by Bugbite I think) that was a respected RP group, so he started going out of his way to ruin their reputation.

That guy just elevated jackassery to a whole new plateau.
  19. Oh god, Puffy.....

He was a reknowned griefer on Virtue too. Used to pull jackass stunts and then come back on the boards blaming it on his girlfriend's little sister.

Or go out of his way to annoy RPers and then petition them for harassment when they got angry and yelled at him.

Yeah, that guy needed a swift kick in the yarbles.

On the topic of the thread. I haven't been posting on the Gen Boards long, but my favorite was the guy a few weeks ago who was going to quit the game because the forum pages loaded too slowly. Seriously..what the [censored] kind of lame [censored] troll attempt was that?

Hehe. Maybe the developers could put it on the official site as a piece of 'fan art.' I'm pretty sure they have a good size pipe for lots of peoples' downloading needs.

Sigh, I wish I could see it...

  24. (Epilogue)

    “There is no armor against fate;
Death lays his icy hand on Kings”
James Shirley, The Contention of Ajax and Ulysses

Marco Benetti sat shivering in a back corner of the warehouse floor, the sounds of conflict had given way to an eerie silence long ago. He had been placed there with orders to remain, he was not inclined to disobey initially, but it dawned on him that the Soldier was, eventually, going to come back for him. As the meager return of his courage reached its apex, he pulled himself to his feet and began cautiously weaving his way through the cargo containers and boxes. He rounded a stack of plywood and was brought to an abrupt halt by a pair of pale, glowing eyes.

“Marco Benetti,” The voice was cold and hollow, “you're a petty man. Your cruelty and avarice is out-paced only by your cowardice.”

Benetti stumbled backwards, pressing his body to a wall of boxes with some subconscious wish he could press hard enough to pass through them. The stern visage of the Soldier challenged Benetti's fear, while the macabre grin of the death's head on his uniform mocked it.

“Your end in this world has been decided.”

The words fell on Marco like a hammer. He slunk back, raising his hands out and whimpering.

    “Oh please..no..no.” he begged.

The Soldier extended a pale hand and placed something in Benetti's palm. Bewilderment momentarily overcame fear as he examined the object. A single bullet rested in his hand, the strangely pale metal left an icy chill that began to creep through his arm.

“This is your death, Marco Benetti. I am placing it in your care until the day it comes to pass.” the Soldier explained flatly.

    “Wh...why?” inquired Benetti.

“Your fate in this world is set in place, but I have given you the opportunity to affect your fate in the next world. I have done you a favor, Mr. Benetti, and you have seventy two days to repay it.”

The mobster's gaze shifted between the Soldier's cold eyes and the bullet in his hand. A lifetime of violence and sin replayed over and over in his mind. He looked up at the Soldier one last time. The ghostly figure returned the gaze before turning to leave.

“Seventy two days, Mr. Benetti.” he said “Seventy two days, then I return for my pound of flesh.”

The Soldier faded in to the dim warehouse as he turned away. The chill from the bullet subsided as Benetti stared at it, resting in his hands. He closed his fist and clutched it to his chest as a tear began to roll down his cheek.
