Yeah I missed the 'in real time', I think ym briain is addled today.

Sorry the win goes on. Did you not get the memo that suckage is no longer part of CoX ?
(aside from MOG) *ducks and runs*

MoG continuing to suck is the only thing that grounds me in reality.

You might want to avoid the Training Room in the near future, then.

i guess this is just a personal peeve, but i wish youd stop calling game updates 'free expansions'.
[/ QUOTE ]
But they are.
Sure, every MMO puts some new things, and some tweaks and fixes, into their game for no more than "the cost of subscribing" ... but they also put the BIG stuff (like the level-cap increase from 40-50) into an expansion you need to pay for separately from the core game.
Everything in Co* is there for the price of one GVE box, and not one penny more. There's no zones that can only be entered if you have, say, "the Rekti War expansion", or "Arachnos Revealed: Grandville", or "Adventures on Monster Island", or whatnot.
[ QUOTE ]
i guess its just semantics, but calling them 'free expansions' makes me feel like you think you are talking to idiots who dont realize every single paid mmo has the exact same thing, but they just call them patches.
[/ QUOTE ]
Others games' free expansions have tended to be smaller and of less importance / impact than the ones Co* gives away for free. That's the difference. -

Valentines Day Event
Also coming in February, we have an expanded Valentines Day Event! Were adding a few new twists to the previous event and also have a very special surprise to go along with this romantic holiday. More details will be coming soon!
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmm ... I wonder ... might it be the option to split an account off from the main account? I.e., I could let my g/f take her one character off to a new account? Or might it be a subscription option to have the same account logged in more than once??
Doubtful, both of them ... but it's fun to think, and wonder ...

Smoothing the XP Curve
[/ QUOTE ]
EXCELLENT idea.
As a suggestion towards this: decide how many even-level Minions one is expected to defeat in order to level up, divide the XP needed for the change of level by this number, and make that the new XP value of each Minion. This can even be expressed as a function of level ("Level times two hundred", or "level squared, times one hundred" ... or whatever), so that levelling does slowly decrease in frequency as you go up, but does so in a predictable, regular, and even fashion.
Then, set Mission-Complete Awards, as well as the XP for even-level LTs and Bosses, as "X Minions". For example, maybe a mission complete is worth fifty Minions' worth of XP; a LT is worth 3, a Boss worth 5. This standardisation of basic awards will smooth out the number of missions needed to level accordingly.
Of course, especially-easy missions ("run over here and tell X about Y") could be scaled back to 5 or 10 Minions' worth of XP ... while especially-hard missions (the LRSF's finale; the end of any Respec Trial; very short-timer missions; missions where you must prevent someone from fleeing; etc) could be scaled up to 75, 100, or even 200 minions' worth of XP.

Real Numbers
As a general quality of life improvement we will be adding new functionality in a coming version of the game to display the real numbers behind your characters and their powers. This includes a user configurable display of important characteristics such as movement rate, regeneration rate, resistances and many more! Additionally, you will be able to see how those statistics are affected in real time by buffs and/or debuffs affecting your character.

And yet some folks want to compound one error by duplicating it villanside ?

Yes. It's called a level playing-field.
Make PPP's available to Heroes through some series of quests.
Make EPP's available to Villains.
Call it a day.
[/ QUOTE ]
More choices = more better.
At 40+, everyone should have a choice between
1) a Patron Pool (one of the Arachnos Elite or Freedom Phalanx, depending on your faction - basically a set of powers in the theme of your patron)
2) a Mastery Pool (elemental/weaponry/generic energy type pools like the current hero "epics" - for people who don't like the Patron Pools for flavor or suck reasons)
3) a 5th Generic Power Pool for people who think both the Patron and Mastery pools are a waste of their time, but would really like to fit in Recall Friend in a build that already had 4 Power Pool choices.
Then you could have your cake and eat it too. You could still have "pick one patron you're stuck with forever", but you could respec FROM that Patron Pool to one of the Mastery pools or the 5th generic.

Plus, I don't see how seeing the opposing faction run by and not being able to touch them is any different than both sides attending a party in Pocket D or teaming in a shared zone. Odd.
[/ QUOTE ][*] [u]Pocket D[u]
Pocket D exists because DJ Zero wills it to exist, and he might as well be a demigod - you can't fight, because he won't let you ... and yes, he is that bad-[censored], all by himself.
[*] [u]Rikti War Zone[u]
The RWZ is a war zone, and subject to military law under the jurisdiction of the Vanguard and thus, Lady Grey. She has personally declared all convictions and arrest warrants for super-Villains to be suspended, so long as they are cooperating with Vanguard in repulsing the Rikti threat to Earth.
...
There's why it's not immersion-breaking to happen there. OTOH, in the middle of Talos Island? My villains all have dozens of warrants out for their arrest!! Some of them have "shoot first, ask questions later" kill-on-sight orders, even! -

CoV isn't villainous enough, and attempts to make it so end up in ghastly unpleasant stories, such as Peter Thermai and Westin Phipps.

What on earth is wrong with Peter and Westin? I love those arcs.

Haven't done Westin's arc, but I love Thermari's

Westin Phipps (Grandville, 40-45) is the only contact I've run into yet that feels more villainous than Peter Themari (P.O. or CAD, I forget which, 10-15 IIRC).
And I love them both. -

Issue 9 The invention system and new Hami. Larger playerbase = more vibrant economy. Keeping Villains from accessing that rich market was a bad and shortsighted idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
Great idea if you want to see the villains screwed. Blue side had lots and lots and lots of people with billions of influence to burn. Villains would not have been able to compete with that.
[/ QUOTE ]
... until after the first round of selling off high-demand drops caused a significant portion of those billions to flow to the red side of the market.
Same as newcomers on Hero side. The same, frankly, as folks on (for example) Protector, trying to compete with the vast mob of people on (say) Freedom.
Or, those of us (like myself) who'd never had a 50, never had more than a million influence, but now have characters that (at level 30-something) have seen TENS of millions of influence pass through their hands.
At least on the market side of things, I agree with those saying it should have been "all one market" from the very first day. -

Actually, it wasn't. ^_^ Keep watching PAST the credits ... -
Here's a bright point, though: previously, the problem has largely been one of limited man power: they just didn't have the resources to do things they WANTED to do.
NC^2 is in the middle of a major hiring spree. IOW, the manpower resources available to "do things" is going to experience a dramatic upswing.
That says to me, starting in i13 and onward, we may see more parity of content in new issues ... maybe even a slight lean towards CoV (say, 55/45) for a while, so that both sides eventually come to a true 50/50 split between issues. -

How about: a Cape with the Child's Play logo on it ... and a matching chest emblem? I'm willing to bet, the charity would give permission to NCSoft to offer such things, as it'd be to raise funds for the charity itself.

You guys have crappy keyboards I see. You should upgrade.
Good luck with the move!
[/ QUOTE ]
While certainly not as nice as, say, a G15, those little Dell USB keyboards are actually pretty nice.
They're tiny since the bezel conforms to the shape of the keyboard, yet the keyboard itself is still full-sized. They're also very easy to clean. The keys have a nice range of movement and are nicely weighted so if you touch type, you almost never make accidental 'landing' strikes.
While they come standard with most 'business-class' Dell workstation PCs these days. I wouldn't mind buying one separate to use as a 'lug-around' keyboard for configuring headless machines.
Now the Dell machines themselves tend to have some crappy hardware. The on-board audio for the Optiplex line is notoriously flaky.

Dell on the other hand, [censored] them for taking over Alienware. Alienware used to rock.

Not to dwell too off-topic, but when I win the lotteryone of these keyboards will be mine.... right after I get the "new" laptop.

EDIT: You can find a demo of how the keyboard works here. Click on the Half-Life or Photoshop links (just above the keyboard image) once the image loads, and you'll see why I want it. -

I'll second the motion to make friends lists non viewable by default, it's no one else's business who is friends with who unless said person offers that information.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again.
Friends list IS non viewable by default.
[/ QUOTE ]
You might want to actually look at it in-game, because yoru claim is not accurate. Maybe it's SUPPOSED to be "not shown" by default, but the settings currently are defaulting to "shown".
[/ QUOTE ]
In my options, "Hide Friends from web page" is indeed "Enabled," meaning the friends list would be hidden, just as Lighthouse and the poster you're replying to said it would be. Have you checked several of your characters to see if they're all showing the "Hide friends" line as disabled?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not uniform across all characters on my account, but I've a few who aren't "Hidden: Enabled". I took a screenshot a while ago, of one character I hadn't logged onto in ... well, since before Vet Rewards went live, so, quite a number of months!
And, indeed ... take a look.
So, having a web-based interface, with the options "set account default to THIS" and "restore all characters to account default" would be, IMO, a very very good idea. -

Hey, Creole, did you know osme people have dozens, or even SCORES, of characters ... and to opt out "completely", you have to log into each and every single one?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well no one made you create that many characters so if it's so inconvenient for you to opt them all out then perhaps you shouldn't bother.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, if someone plays one character to 50, they should turn their back on CoH forever, and stop paying? Come on - the game is purposefully designed to promote altoholism.
[ QUOTE ]
And perhaps you can explain to me what the fear is all about? What exactly are you afraid people are going to see? Are you afraid people will see your character? Seriously, is that the problem?
[/ QUOTE ]
Fear" There's no fear. Hey, most of my characters will be 100% visible (friends list aside). It simply sticks in my craw that, if I felt otherwise, I have to manually change each and every one of them. It strikes me as inexcusably bad planning, and a shocking lack of foresight (or consideration). -

Well like I said in my original post. Time you get from buying a retail box of the game doesn't count.
[/ QUOTE ]
YES.
IT.
DOES.
I am at 24 months of played time, as of October 4th. I got my 24 month badge on October 4th. And that's with three Retail Box purchases (COH, COV, and COV-DVD).
If those three free months from those three Retail Box purchases had not counted, then as of October 4th, I would only have had the 21-month Veteran Badge.
Here, look at this. Notice how my Veteran's Reward time is "2 years, 2 months" ... yet my Paid time is "1 year, 11 months" ...? Yep, that's right, my Vet time is 3 months longer than my Paid time.
Next badge comes, for me, on January 4th. It'll be my 27 month badge; at that point, "Total Paid Time" will say 2 years, and "Veteran Rewards Time" will say 2 years 3 months. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yay! Thank you Pax.
[/ QUOTE ]
Based on an idea from Neuronia in the other thread, here's a sudden inspiration I just had:
Replace all Unresistible Damage amounts with CHANCES for the same amount. A 50/50 chance that some portion of your attack is unresistible seems, to me, better than a flat, all-the-time proof against resistance.
And at the current time, I'd like to add:
[u]Hero-Villain Balance[u] ... especially the PPPs. Hell, even just in PvE, I am absolutely livid at how badly Villains got bait-and-switched with their Epics. It's all cut-and-paste jobs, the same friggin' powers regardless of Patron, just with different eye-candy. BAH.
[u]CoP and IoP[u] .... I don't expect to be in a raiding SG or VG any day soon, but the sooner there are regular raids happening in bases, the sooner more resources get allocated to IMPROVING bases. And that, to my mind, is of benefit not just to PvP, but also, PvE. ^_^ Enlightened self-interest, FTW!
[u]Cross-Server PvP[u] ... would probably solve any and all "population issues", right there. At least through the Arena kiosks, yeah?
And another idea of mine:
Masterminds and Pets ... I'd like to see a small chance that an attack directed at a mastermind has a small chance of, instead, hitting one of their PETS - including Auto-hit powers. Sure, sure, we have Bodyguard already ... but that doesn't help against holds, sleeps, and other "status effect only" powers. I'd even be happy to have Bodyguard halved against player attacks, if the same chances of shifting-to-another-pet were applied (IOW, with 6 pets, there'd be a 75% chance you hit one of the pets instead of the MM).
