  1. Awesome, thanks! Now I'm sitting here debating which pet to ditch... Thinking of my other toons with pets, I don't use them too heavily.
  2. Yeah, I mean I get the deficiencies in lacking Resistance, but I'm just talking about currently. As it is, I can't make Tough worth it. I'll definitely be re-evaluating once i24 hits and Mid's gets updated (I'm trying to stock up on vil merits for big ticket items and ae tickets for salvage).

Do you have your Crab build on Mid's? Can you post so I can see how you're using your slots?

I'm just trying to balance survivability and lethality. Since this is my first crab, I still haven't gotten a full grasp on my play style with her yet. =) So I'll figure it out as I go... but for now, I'm shooting for those def soft caps and my resistance is already (consistently) higher across the board than what I'm used to with all my other toons... with the exception of my SS/Fire brute fire farmer... soft def and hard res and a killing machine. =P
  3. Is there a new Mid's out or something? Where can I look at the new IO sets for i24? And the reason I'm hesitant to slot Tough more is because it's only Resistance for S/L. I know that's the most common, but currently, I can't slot for enough Res to make it worth it and though the def bonuses are nice (with some useless XP stuff), Def is pretty much covered as-is.

Hmmm... I'm thinking of going with Frag Grenades instead of Spring Attack (I didn't realize how much the recharge time on it SUCKS)... See how it pans out. Thankfully I've got plenty of respecs.
  4. Hmmm, I see your point. I've replaced the Scirocco's Dirvish on Frenzy with Obliteration... kept the other so I can keep AOE soft capped. That and I like the idea of a slightly cheaper build. I was thrilled to get rid of Kinetic Combats I had in Boxing. =P

Out of the 3 types you listed above, I think I'm going for a Brute-style God-mode. Damage I'm gonna buff up with Incarnate slotting, so survivability is more important. I do wanna keep Hasten tripple slotted because I like having the recharge, not for the pets, but for everything else. The pets are just a bonus to me, like a Brute with Mastermind abilities. My main mode of attack and survival I definitely want to be ME. Pets? Disposable.

Any thoughts about Spring Attack? I think my Mid's is bugged. Spring Attack is PBAOE with Superior damage... but Mid's is listing it as doing 14.35 Smashing damage, lol. =P
  5. Hmmm, yeah I was thinking of replacing Web Grenades with something else. To be honest, I was only trying to softcap S/L at first and then realized I was close to soft capping everything else, so I just went for it.

I wasn't trying to perma my Spiderlings, but I saw a lot of posts emphasizing it, playing their Crabs like Masterminds I suppose, so I was happy to see that I had done so when Hasten is active. =)

How did you slot Suppression? For damage or something else?

As for AOE damage, so far the only stuff I have is Suppression, Arm Lash (Cone), Venom Grenade, Frenzy, and Omega Maneuver... I do have both summons (Spiderlings and Call Reinforcements)... I like the idea of playing MM from time to time. Any suggestions on another AOE attack? I skipped Frag Grenade because of the knockback... but if Overwhelming Force is affordable, at least the one proc, that could change things and I'd swap out Web Grenades for it. I just used the Web Grenades because the mobs (on teams) would scatter once attacked. Some would stay back and pluck with ranged, others would run at me for melee... gluing them in place made them all susceptible to my AOE stuff.

Though I'm reluctant to give up Web Grenades because of the Enfeebled Operation set bonuses... Here's a slightly revised build. Soft capped positional, near soft capped positional still and 75% base recharge without Hasten... Since I'm lacking in AOE, I snagged Spring Attack to replace Web Grenades since I already have Super/Combat Jumping. Thoughts? I've never used Spring Attack before...

I'm making this toon an all-around... Looking for tanking, distance, and melee damage. I have Spiderlings as perma with Hasten, but Hasten has a 11.3 sec cool down between casting, but that shouldn't be a problem with Spiderlings being perma by 40.2 sec.

Anyways, I'm wondering how you guys think I can bump up the damage on this toon? Defense is covered, but damage looks a little light on my build. And how are you guys using Suppression? I feel kind of guilty slotting it for Def-Debuff instead of damage... My current attack chain is Web Grenade (locks everyone in place), Venom Grenade for the -20% Res, and then Suppression... after that, my chain kind of falters because it's all single-shot stuff. I try to go in for the melee and use Arm Lash for the small cone, but that rarely does anything. I find myself using Veteran powers a bit like black wand and sands of mu... which kind of bugs me. I'm certain when I hit 50 and get Hasten slotted, things will feel different, but right now, I find myself waiting for powers to recharge (just using standard IOs until appropriate levels-3 for IO sets).

    Incarnate plan:
Alpha: Cardiac Core Paragon because of all the toggles.
    Interface: Reactive for damage.
    Hybrid: Assault also for damage.

Just trying to make my crab spider into a GOD (considering her bio has her gunning for the throne of Arachnos, she resembles Lord Recluse). =)

I'm soft capped on everything (type/positional) except Psi (37.7%). I'm going for the 45% soft cap, not incarnate since teaming in incarnate trials gets you well beyond the 60% def cap, even if you have no defenses to start. =P

But I'm making this toon an all-around... Looking for tanking, distance, and melee damage. I have Spiderlings as perma with Hasten, but Hasten has a 11.3 sec cool down between casting, but that shouldn't be a problem with Spiderlings being perma by 40.2 sec.

  9. Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm a little confused... Do you calculate dps for individual powers and add then up to get an approximate overall dps? On my SA/fire brute, I'm getting a dps calc of 235.04... Seems about right, but if that's the case, my Fire/Earth dominator with Musculature Core is getting 299.47 dps (which doesn't include the two attack powers I don't use... Otherwise it's 372.09 dps). That's more dps than any of my brutes... =P

On the other hand, if I calculate dps with all attack/recharge+cast... Well, let's just say I'm sure my ss/fire does more than 35 dps. =P
  10. Yeah... 3% isn't much in the way of resistance... but it's something. And I'd only be sacrificing 1% for F/C resistance...
  11. Hmmm... well I dunno what you're talking about. Our build has better defenses, regeneration, endurance, recharge, etc. Your "Resist Energies" is slotted essentially identical... and I don't have any psychotically expensive PVP IOs...

Not to mention our build has me soft capped for S/L with only one enemy.

Unless you're looking at my first post? Yeah... I've learned a little since then, heh. Do take a look at the more recent builds? Any thoughts?
  12. Hmmm, I suppose I can throw in the Aegis +Psi Res IO in place of one of the existing Aegis IOs... that at least gives me 3% Psi res. Only lowers F/C res by 1%.

Think I'll give that a whirl and see how it goes. I do have Elusive Mind as a backup. =) It'd be nice to have a general all-around AT, though. Soft capping everything (minus Psi) helps, I'm sure.
  13. Hmmm yeah, I was considering the Spiritual path earlier. I guess it's a toss-up and I've got time to fully slot, unlock alpha and start running TFs to get shards and choose. I think by then I'll have a good idea of how these bonuses affect my choice/play style.

Definitely looking forward to this, though. =)
  14. Hmmm, actually I rather like this. With your modifications, I soft cap E/N with only 5 people around me and I soft cap F/C with 7. I do marginally less damage with the slotting, but only by 3 or 4 points. I'm sure the .5-1 sec faster recharge can quickly negate that problem. =)

I do feel a little uneasy about having ZERO psionic resistance. In your experience, does this really make a difference at all? I don't know what psi attacks come that don't fall under melee/ranged/aoe... but I know there are a few. I suppose 12% resistance isn't much to begin with, but just wondering what your experiences might be with this?

Also, with i20 just around the corner, I'm thinking of going Nerva for my second slot. With the defenses, I get completely soft capped at 5 enemies. =)

Anyhow, thanks for the input, Nihilii. I'd definitely like to hear of you're experience on the 0 psi res thing, though. Thanks again!
  15. 109 views and no replies? =(

Well, I've done some retooling based on some info I've found from other builds and spliced together what I feel will work. Currently, this toon is at lvl 45 and well on her way.

So in my retooling, I'm now softcapped with s/l def with 1 enemy in range. In order to compensate for the end-suck that Maneuvers is, I'm going Cardiac which will actually bring my recovery to par with my /WP brute, which can almost sustain a fight indefinitely without problems. =) The +Res with Cardiac is also quite helpful.

So now I've got my play style down... and these powers are pretty much set in stone now. Especially since I discovered you can negate the defense crash of Rage by stacking it... Which I can currently without using Haste... and I've not even added any recharge set bonuses yet. =)

So here's my current, relatively affordable plan:

So anyone? Please... anything you'd do to improve my build? This toon has basically become my favorite. One thing I would like to get would possibly be perma-Dull Pain... but I can't figure out how to work that in without sacrificing my defenses.

...and yes, I do use Unstoppable from time to time. It's helped me out in a few jams. I also already have Demonic Aura, so it's nice having a two-tiered God mode. =) I almost all but solo'd the Treespec AV with Fury + Rage + Dull Pain + Demonic Aura... and towards the end, popped Unstoppable.

But time will tell how much I need Unstoppable with soft capped defenses... But for NOW, the powers are set in stone.

    Anybody? Help?
  16. Hmmm, okay... so keeping that in mind, I've altered my SS/Inv build slightly. Can you give me your opinions on this?

Also, I've got about 2 bill saved up, so I'm willing to dip into that a little bit ('cause it'll be a good while before I have this toon to 50)... As is, it's an affordable build for me, just wondering what you might do to push it over the top? Good to have goals, after all... =)

And thanks for all your input, everyone. I'm getting pretty close to rolling this toon with confidence. =)

  17. Hmmm, so what kind of numbers have you seen that were possible on ss/in brutes? For me it's looking like low 20s on def and resist and 70+ on s/l. Seems good but also seems like it could be better... Any guide/build suggestions?
  18. Mainly because I already have a theme brute of dark/dark. =)
  19. Hmmm... Good to know. Then maybe I'll start working on an /inv build. Do you know what kind of numbers I should aim for in regards to def and resist when planning out IO sets? I know s/l will be well-covered, but for the rest? Should I even bother to try to compensate for the lacking psi protection?
  20. Ah, well actually I have two brutes at 50 with /willpower. I love that secondary. I just wanna try something new. I'm kind of torn between /Inv and /SR...

I just find myself with brute-envy from time to time when I see other toons that can stand in a mob of bosses and go afk without any problems, lol. SS looks fun and smashy, love the screen shake I get with my stone/stone brute... I think SS would be a blast too. I hear good things about Rage, so I wanna give it a shot (my previous SS/ didn't make it very far before I scrapped him and went with something else).

So I understand SS is one of the best primaries for brutes that just wanna hurt people... So I'm looking for the secondary that will best prevent me from getting hurt, heh.
  21. Hmmm, ok, so SR eventually gets the coverage from both res/def? Pretty cool... I'm looking to roll a SS/SR brute. Still looking for that one toon I can have that I can depend on. Good survivability and dishes out the pain. Any suggestions on builds? My build is based on some other SS/SR builds I've seen... got my three defenses up to 46/47% without Elude. =)
  22. So there're the 7 types of defense (smash/leth/fire/cold/energy/neg/psi)... and then there's the three other kinds of defense (melee/ranged/aoe). If you get the latter 3 up to soft cap (45% right?), do the others matter? Wouldn't they also be covered by the latter 3?

Thinking of rollin' a /Super Reflexes brute and I can easily softcap melee/ranged/aoe... but it would kind of require having mediocre numbers for the other 7.

It'd be pretty awesome to be perpetually softcapped with defense. Though for SR, it seems resistance is virtually nil. =P

    Any insight would be awesome...
  23. I've never worked with /Inv, but I did have a SS/ brute at one point, got deleted though. I've been feeling the need for a more "smashy" brute and I already have a Stone, so I figured I'd venture into the old school classic... SS/Inv.

    Here's my planned build:

I'm not exactly sure of what my play style would be with this guy, but from what I hear, SS/Inv are good at survivability (aside from Psi) and dishing out the damage. I like that idea. I'm still looking for that one ULTIMATE AT that I can use and eventually max out.

Any suggestions on improvement would be greatly appreciated.
  24. Work computer will be using putty or proxycap. Home desktop is running FreeSSHd as the SSH server. But in reading up, it sounds like I need to handle UDP packets... And it's REALLY tricky to transfer UDP packets through SSH TCP... Thoughts?
